Sloppy Joe's on Duval - this is where Ernest Hemingway hung out. Also, i get a kick out of going there as my Mom worked there for five years before she had me.

Hog's Breath is right of Duval.

There is also a Maragitaville to check out too.

Hope that helps.

Hello prymus,
How long ago did your mom work at Sloppy Joe's? there is a cam available for SJ's but I do not know the link but it can be found by search the web-- it is interesting to watch - Hog's breath also is interesting - Margaritaville is very very expensive to eat at, but they do have everything that has to do with Jimmy Buffett.
Everyone needs to try "the top" which is located as the last floor of the Hotel LaConcha which is now a Holiday Inn. From the top of the Laconcha you can see 360 degrees around Key west - it is awesome to take pictures from and you also see the cruise ships at Mallory Square - I do not know if the restaurant has opened up there again, but you can sit or walk around the top and yes there is a high wall so that noone can fall - the LaConcha is located on Duval Street and Flemming Street ---At the sunset - you will find different types of entertainment - the cutest one is with the preforming cats - there is so much to see and so much to do that a few hours doesn't seem to cover it ----there are scooters to rent and there are other types of rentals to get around the 2 X 4 Island ------just be careful of some of the tee shirt shops ---some have been cited for overcharging customers - the tee shirts are a good bargain --its the imprint where the charge is out of sight ---you can bargain with them tho ---
anymore questions ---I would be glad to help.
Stay Safe and stay happy.
Have a great cruise
Always
Shirley

My Mom worked at Sloppy Joe's from 1954 to 1959. She was pretty thrilled when i brought her back some goodies from there when stopped there.

That bar has a lot of history. I was telling the ladies in the gift shop that my Mom had worked there, and they also asked when. I told them, and they said they bet she sure had some stories to tell...

Anyway it is a neat place to stop. They also have a reasonable priced gift shop too.

Hello prymsu,
My dad use to hang with Ernest hemingway during the 30's at sloppy Joe's --being a cab driver he would give Mr. hemingway a ride home sometimes - the girls in Key West were never allowed to go beyond Eaton Street and the first time I walked into Sloppy Joe's 12 years ago, I felt like the ghost from my past were going to put a whipping on me for going past Eaton Street much less going into sloppy Joe's --my grandfather was the first latin professor in Key west and taught Pauline Hemingway how to speak spanish for 25 cents a lesson --anyhow I really know you are going to enjoy your trip back into history and memories.
Good luck and take care
Always
Shirley
