I'm looking for a better discount rate than Amtrak promotion code "H208". With this code, I was quoted two tickets from NY Penn Station to Orlando for $385.00. Last year, I paid $325 for the week of Memorial Day weekend. I'm thinking since everyone is hesitant to fly, the train rates must have just increased.

Does anyone have a good deal to share?

My dates are 6/5-6/15.

Thanks for you help!

Essentially, the lowest Amtrak fares are sold to those who make the reservations first, with fares rising as the train begins to fill up. Hence, the highest fares are paid by those who make last-minute reservations (you are always quoted the lowest fare available at the time you make the inquiry). Basically you guessed correctly, since more people are taking the train the lower priced seats have probably already been sold, producing the higher fare levels you found.

It's going to be really hard to beat the Many Happy Returns (H208) promotion. Amtrak has many discounts available, but they cannot be offered unless you know to ask for them. Unlike WDW discount codes, there is no listing of Amtrak discounts for you to check. You might try Northeast-area newspapers, and the Amtrak website does have a search function for some specials, but there is little there to benefit you right now except H208.

Incidentally, this morning Amtrak showed a fare of about $536 for your travel dates, so snag the $385 if possible. The 15-day East Rail Pass goes for $260 per person during this time, which just beats this mornings quoted fare.

The 15 day East Rail Pass is for international passengers only. It is not valid for residents of the US or Canada.

That's correct, the East Rail Pass is for international travelers. Gee, what was I thinking?

I suppose I was looking for fares comparable to $536...

IM SO UPSET!!! Why didn't I just book it when it was $385???? I really don't want to pay $536!!! I remember last year at the begining of the summer they offered the buy one get one free discount. I have a feeling they might not offer it this year - they don't need to encourage people to use the train, people are chosing it over the plane already without the discounts!

If you have an Entertainment Book, there is a 10% off coupon in the book for Amtrack. But it does have alot of rules and restrictions in the small print.
