This is such a pretty resort! I love the look of the buildings and the river that is next to it. I would probably pick this resort over any other moderate resort. I am really confused, though- who are those alligators and the mardi gras clown supposed to be? Are they from a Disney movie or story? :confused:

I think they are just meant to be fun, colorful things to tie into the theme of the resort. We last stayed here a llllooonnnggg time ago though, so maybe another DIS-er can answer better...:)

I believe that's all just meant to be New Orleans/Louisiana theming - Mardi Gras parades and floats have those large heads and adornments like in the food court, the gators are something very common to the Louisiana swamps, and they are done up in mardi-gras-like colors and caracatures, and they are playing musical instruments as a take on the 'jazz' theme, which New Orleans is famous for.

Ah, I see! I just really love it when Disney goes that extra mile and they add their famous characters to the resorts! I think it makes the resort more special to have official Disney themes than generic characters that any resort could have. (Plus I think we could pay a lot less money to stay somewhere else if Disney themes aren't a necessity) I think the alligators are really cute... I thought I saw them in a Disney movie... But I think that Mardi Gras clown/jester guy is really creepy. (Just like the clown slide at Boardwalk Inn).
Speaking of themes and other resorts, it looks like Disney is removing a lot of the Disney! I remember seeing pictures of the rooms at Grand Floridian and they had themed Disney Rooms with the fairys and Alice - what ever happened to that? I've never been to Disney World before, but I've been researching for a while now and a lot of their resorts to me are losing the magic and just becoming kind of generic.
If anyone is really familiar with the resorts and could give me some of the best choices for generous Disney themes. That'd be great!:thumbsup2

Leaving in 20 days!

I have my cameras ready! Video, DSLR, and an Olympus Tough...which I will most likely use the most. I am looking forward to some "wet" shots...pool and water rides.

Any requests? Get them in now....we are there for 11 days. So, I will have time for some wandering pics.

Pretty much teh same here. Leaving in 23 days for 05/04-05/14. Not bringing as many cameras as above, but we are planning on taking lots of pics especially since it's our 1st stay at POFQ!!

Any Port Orleans pics are always great to see! There's a similar thread for Riverside too, if you happen to take a stroll over there on one of your wandering days.

On a more specific note, so probably of less general interest here, if you (or anyone else) get a chance to take some snaps of any of the price boards and/or information signage (such as menus in the restaurants or bars, facility operating hours, etc) that helps me to keep the Port Orleans unofficial website up to date with any changes at the resort.

We are here now...and it is just as great as I remembered it being from when we last stayed here in 1995. Just arrived yesterday and got the room requests we had hoped for (1st floor, corner room) in building 6. I'll be sure to snag lots of pics and post them when we return. We didn't bring the laptop and I'm not sure how to post them from my iPhone!

Thanks! We got home last night. It was a quick but delightful 4 days. It was, however, very hot. 3 of the 4 days we were there were record high temps for Orlando (and the other day tied the record high!). At least we didn't have the July/August humidity, so it was bearable.

Well, we just got back yesterday (05/14) and we LOVED POFQ!! It was such a great resort that we would definitely stay at again. The boat to DTD was one of our favorite perks. :cloud9:

If there isn't a bounceback in your room and you're hearing that they might be offering them.. check with the front desk or housekeeping. We did this last September even though we didn't get an offer in our room, we had been hearing that some DISers were getting them. So we checked around and sure enough we found it and booked it!

I don't have a picture, but there are no seats. You stand in a roped of line to the resort that you are going to. When the bus for FQ comes they drop the rope and you go to your bus. I have never waited more than 10 min, usually less.

I've been on ME, and know the process at the airport... but I'm curious about whether or not there are benches at FQ's ME stop. You are correct. They are 3 benches at FQ. I just came back last week.

yes, there are benches as shown in pic posted. i'm sure if someone in your party has a problem standing the m.e. folks will take care of them.

I thought you had taken 306 pictures of Port Orleans French Quarter. I figured that was some sort of record even for us Disney obsessed folks!

I am up there. We took 2,000+ pics this trip. All of which came out great. I probably took 200-300 of POFQ. I wouldn't doubt it.:rolleyes1

Yeah, I would use multiple cards too. That's why I moved up to larger 4GB and 8GB cards. Life is easier when you can take a 1,000+ pics on 1 card. :rolleyes1

I'm so excited. We had booked Pop for a short 2 day trip in July, but then we changed to 3 days at POFQ! Can't wait to take a ton of pictures. I had booked 2 nights in Dec 08, but had to cancel the trip, so I'm ready for POFQ!

The imagineers definitely did a terrific job creating the French Quarter resort! I love the buildings and how intricate and colorful they are. I still haven't figured out where I've seen those gators on the sidewalks... are they in a Disney movie?

Thanks for sharing all these photos! I'm 75% sure we're staying here in June 2010...I'm just not sure if I should bother paying extra for the waterview (I'm 20, as is the friend who's coming with me, so we'll be in the parks A LOT).

I'd be totally fine with a great courtyard view, I just don't want to be looking out at the parking lot!

Looking at the satellite view (Google "Port Orleans" and choose "Maps" then "Satellite"... ignore the fact that it says "Riverside Port Orleans" right in the middle of POFQ, it's obviously POFQ, you can see the dragon slide), it looks like there are almost no buildings that look straight onto the parking lot ... maybe the very very corner of building 1, but that's about it. All the rest look out onto gardens/trees, on the other side of the trees is the parking lot (if you have a parking lot view, that is ... looks like most of the rooms don't even have that).

I'm glad that I found this thread. At the end of June I had foot surgery and have been hanging around the house for most of my summer vacation. Two weeks ago dh said to me how about going to DW at the end of AUg. I was on the computer within 2 minutes and found a great fare for the airlines and a code for rooms. I couldn't get my first choice but we got POFQ. We have stayed here before and love it. It will be a great way to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary.

The best resort for the money at WDW. We have stayed there once and at POR 3xs. Only downfall is the Food Court is small and gets packed for breakfast unless you are like us and open parks every morning. We are basically waiting for them to open it in the mornings to get our 6 beignets, coffee and milk. Great Place:thumbsup2

My husband and I stayed at POFQ for our honeymoon August 8-16. We had reserved a king bedroom and got a fabulous room on the river. The photos of the room were taken a day or two after we arrived so the room is lived in. More photos to come tomorrow from around the resort.

I think that's all I took. I loved the resort and I want to go back! Of course I also want to go back to Pop, and to All Star Music and stay at all of the other resorts too. I would stay anywhere to be at Disney! :rotfl:

Coins and necklaces are often handed out free at the main entrance or lobby, but the shop usually has some too. Say hi to Chris the greeter if you see him.

We were given TONS of beads! At the food court, at the gift shop...plus, some of the people who drive the little motorized vehicles around the resort stopped us while we were walking, said "good morning, princess" to my granddaughter and handed her beads. Each morning as we walked through the lobby to go to the buses, the person at the door gave us lucky coins. :)

mom2serena, if you look at the above picture, just to the left of the TV is where the fridge is. It doesn't really look like a fridge, but that's where it is. The fridge is inside the cabinet. And it's in all the rooms.

In looking at all the beautiful pictures of FQ. I do not see people. When we stayed at the Pop in 2007 there was always lots of people everywhere, and in these pictures there are none. I was just curious as to where the people are?:confused:

For me, the best time to take pictures of the resort was in the early morning. I'm an early riser anyway, so was up and out to go get beneits to bring back to the room, and took pictures on the way there and back.

I don't really see a lot of people wandering around POFQ, mostly at the main building, pool and food court areas, and even then it's not jammed with people. Our last trip, which was for five days, I only saw people walk past our door three or four times. That's another reason why I love it...it's quiet! :)

Love hearing all the positive comments about POFQ. We are staying there next June after 6 or 7 stays at POR. I love POR and am a little worried about straying but it is our honeymoon and I wanted someplace new.

Well, if you get too lonely for it, you can always walk over to POR (or jump on the boat) and pay it a visit!

We just got back from Disney on 12/10 and during our stay, we wondered over to POFQ to do some shopping and dining. While we were looking around, we fell in love with the resort, so much that when we got home we immediately booked a 4 night stay for October. I can't wait....I am loving all of the pictures, can't wait to show my family tonight :goodvibes

I know how you feel. We just returned from trip during Thanksgiving and have almost definitely decided to stay at POFQ for our next trip. Our daughter loves the sea serpent slide. I love the beautiful grounds and the river setting.

This is a GREAT thread....:thumbsup2 Question, we have a child with a special needs stroller ( kinda on the big side) and I was wondering if there is elevator service to the second and third floors, and if not, can you request a room on the lower level?

We do not need a handicap room, just an easy way to get up and down the stairs with the stroller.

It is secluded. We almost didn't notice it at all. We were there on a very short shopping trip, no parks, just DTD, hotels and outlets. We noticed it while walking to the boat. It's a lovely resort and I hope you enjoy it all. I'm sure the hot tub will be relaxing!

Your welcome! I think I will stay at POFQ in October.

We have spent 4 Christmases there. It is our favorite moderate resort. We used to also stay at POR but since we cannot be guaranteed Alligator Bayou (no complaints... just saying!... we have stopped staying there. The decor and architecture in the Mansions area is too much like colonial Virginia where we live.)

Anna... I see your trip in October includes the inaugural F&W Festival Marathon/Half-Marathon. I will be there at the same time, but I am not the one who will be running. A very good friend is entered in the 1/2 marathon and a bunch of us are going to be at the finish line cheering her on. I will have to look for you too!

Hi Elin, I will be doing the relay with a friend. We will have to try and meet up sometime. I think we have a group from the DIS Podcast boards going. Maybe we could have a DIS group meet the night before the race. I think a lot of runners like to Carbo Load the night before. Maybe we could meet at Wolfgang Puck Express? I will be at WDW from September 30th till October 11th. I plan on staying in the Epcot are the first 3 days. The after party goes till 3am so I wanted to be close to Epcot, then my plan is to stay at POFQ. I also like the AB area of POR. I have not stayed in the Mansion area, I just really like the AB area.

These pictures are great! I just booked a room here for September and can't wait! A quick question though...for those who have stayed at other WDW resorts, how did you find the bus service here? Do you share a bus with POR? I just returned from CBR, and was somewhat disappointed in the bus service in comparison to my last trip at POP. TIA!!

You do share a bus with POR, except during the busiest of times. It can be a trial, I will admit. But the service is still very quick since you are relatively close to all the parks when you are staying at POFQ. It would not stop us from staying there again. and again. and again. ;)

Yes they are, there are ramps at all the docks and the boats have spaces for wheelchairs (or even ECVs).

For those of you who have been at POFQ at Christmas time - does it feel less "crazy" than at other resorts? In all of the photos, I don't see any super-crowded, busy situations.

We have stayed at POFQ 5 Christmases now. We never find it to be crazy like other resorts (this past year was our 13th Christmas at WDW). There are certain times in the morning that the food court is full, but even then it is a short walk to another area where you can find a seat and eat, even if it is by the pool. We love it at Christmastime!

Thankyou sooo much for posting all your comments and pictures.

We (or rather I ) have just booked POFQ for our trip in July. I cancelled our cheap hotel offsite due to a really bad review i read on the orlando forum. But to be honest i had bad feelings about it the minute i booked it. I hope my DH enjoys my new choice as it was him who wanted to stay off site. Keep your fingers crossed for me he doesn't find the new credit card bill before i get a chance to pay it.
I may have slightly under estimated the price difference that i told him oops!

4 weeks and 5 days to go xxx

We stayed at POFQ for the 1st time in May 09 and that was all it took. We are now hooked. It was small, quiet, and beautiful. Pool was fun, loved the boats to DTD, and we enjoyed the nightly entertainment.

That's why we are staying there again in Sept and we can't wait!! :goodvibes
