Thought I'd better here this answer from British people like me - i.e. not really used to any heat at all! Has somebody told our weather it is now June - it looks like mid February outside!!!

Anyway - we plan to go the last week of August, first week of September and just wanted to hear what the weather is likely to be like.

It's our tenth trip to Orlando (always go either November or April/May) so we don't need to spend all day in the parks. We thought we would probably get in early, staying at GF so can make use of EMH, then we could come out and swim, rest around the resort and go back in the parks late afternoon/early evening.

Is this doable or is the heat/humidity going to be unbearable - also what is the rain like? Does it usually come and go pretty quickly or does it stop you doing stuff??

Its very hot and humid.. not as busy though. we have been a couple of times at that time last week aug first week sept, and although you have showers in the afternoon which dont last long, you are back to hot hot hot weather!
Drink plenty and slap on the suncream!

Its very, very hot, we were there last year and the avg temp was 110 plus, but it is doable. Its best to get there early and then leave at lunch. :goodvibes

Perfectly "do-able" we've done it 3 times and are planning our 4th August trip. The heat is energy sapping, but if you drink plenty of water, take advantage of air conditioning and pace yourself it will be fine.

For us-never again would we go in August. We love, adore the sun(although it does'nt like me i am fair skinned+have moles).Dh put up with it+managed it-he did'nt let it bother him.But me,well i could'nt handle it-the heat is intense-seriously.The humidity made it worse.I felt very uncomfortable sometimes to the point of breathing being a very mild problem(i have mild asthma),very sweaty to the point of being slightly embarrassed from the sweat running down my face.We actually left the parks much earlier than we were expecting to,(we stay off site,so difficult for us to have a break, swim+go back).Next year we had 2 choices 3 weeks in Aug/Sep or 16nights April-we chose April.
As for the rain+storms,it's mainly a huge downpour in the afternoon, very heavy+very warm rain.
As for being busy-i did'nt think it was anywhere near as busy as April. But you now have the free disnet dining and people have said that this has started to make the parks more crowded now.

Hey,everones different+can handle the heat+humidity in different ways-i am sure you will still have a great time whenever you go.But i do recommend plenty of water(not sodas)hat's-especially for children+rest, loads of sunscreen-even if you don't think you need it or you don't use it at home, if you do decide to go Aug/Sep.x.

We always go in August and manage fine, we always get to the parks at opening and go back to the hotel for an afternoon swim. Also it's good to alternate (if possible) outdoor rides and A/C indoor rides.

As others have said drink loads, lots of suncream, wear a hat and I bought some misty mate fans which spray a very fine mist on you and they helped.

Also don't try to do too much as the heat really does tire you out!

Have fun and make time for a waterpark or 2 :goodvibes

We went last August and it was hot but I was fine - staying on property at Disney helps with this time of year as you can take advantage of the EMH and then get out of the sun during the hottest part of the day - like I did with shopping:rotfl2:

We are looking to go again next August:cool1:

We went in August and stayed at the WL. Like you we went in the morning & normally returned for a swim for a few hours, before going out again.

Just don't expect your hair to look anything like:scared1:

Heh, cold blooded northerner here.

We do last two weeks of August and have done so 5 times. Heat is fine, humidity is a bit high but nothing like the tropics.

When it rains, generally it last 20 min to 30 min and then all over and back to heat. The only time rain can stop play is if it is an electrical storm, which they mostly are, they will close the pools and water parks. Get a lightweight rain poncho.

Late 40s and two teenage sons, we can do full days in the parks with no problems. It is nowhere near as hot as Las Vegas is it this time of year, and in Vegas it is dry heat.......it nearly killed us when we did Vegas.

If I could have my choice, I would enjoy easter the best.

Thanks - I feel reassured now. We did Vegas in September and June and yes it was a very dry heat but we planned our days so that we weren't wandering around during the midday heat.

We are going to book to go for 16 nights so that we get a couple extra days so that we aren't doing something everyday and get more rest days.

Thanks for the tip about the mist sprays. I am going to get a gift basket for my daughter in the room and I think I will get them to include one of those.

Thanks everyone.

We were at GF last August and I dont do humidity too well but it was perfectly fine. Like I said earlier, if you do the early EMH it really helps as we went back to the hotel for a swim or sit in the foyer of GF listening to Christian playing the piano. It is really relaxing staying on site, especially if the weather is too sticky. You will have a lovely time.

The last time we went in August I was 10 and I vividly remember the sweat literally running down my back! It was ok as long as you were in the shade - drinking a lot of water was a must though!
I would go in August again if it was the only choice I had - better to have hot Disney than no Disney at all! :)

Unfortunatley you won't see us there in August  we're not going back until 2010!!! DLRP this year!

Be great to hear from you when you get back though and any reports you have on the weather.

We went to Lowestoft for half term (that's where I'm originally from and family still live in Carlton Colville and Worlingham) and as we drove from Kent we saw the temperature in the car drop by 10 degrees :rotfl2:

Last August I was at WDW for 10 days and I believe there was only 2 showers. One was a major downpour lasted all afternoon (really annoying!) and the other was short and over pretty quickly. Apparently it was unusual for there to be that few showers though.

I'm not put off at all to be honest, end of August/start of September is a great time to go, the crowds are highly diminished I don't think we queued for anything the whole trip! Flying out again 22nd August.

we just got back and the heat and humidity were already way too much for us to bear, even early in the morning. No way I'd go in August

I love going late August/early September, parks are less crowded and I love the weather, very hot with the afternoon thunderstorms to cool things down! Have never found it to be too hot, drink plenty of water, get to the parks early, and take your time! No rush, you're on holiday! :thumbsup2

I love going in August/September time. We've been in July, and I think that was worse than late August/early September time. Last year the temperatures were between 90 and 100 the entire time we were there. There are always showers somewhere around 2pm or 3pm, and while they can be fierce (hammering rain, thunder, lightning) they don't last too long and the air is always quite cool afterwards. Admittedly it gets hot again pretty soon, but you do get a while in the afternoon without the intense humidity.

We found the best thing to do is drink plenty of water, walk in the shade - sounds really stupid but it is actually considerably cooler in the shade and you'd be surprised how many people don't walk in it!, put loads of suncream on, stop regularly in the air-conditioned buildings, wear a hat, and avoid Animal Kingdom after about 11am!!! :lmao:

We're not a very "go back to the hotel and rest for the afternoon" kind of family, we like to keep going from dawn to dusk. I think we only went back to the hotel during the day a couple of times. We just kept mixing up the day with outside rides, inside rides, drinks, meals, sit downs - the advantage of having been several times I suppose, you're not rushing to cram everything in.

We've only visited once before in August and it was a bit of a shock compared to May/October when we normally go.

However, we managed very well - just make use of anything air conditioned (one of the main reasons why we never have a convertible - done that, got the burns and the dust to prove it;) ), drink plenty of water and pace yourself.

Interestingly, we're back again this August (work in a school so only time we can go for three weeks) and am really looking forward to it - mainly because we visited last October for 8 days and it was cold, grey and thick cloud for most of it - the coolest we've ever known Florida, so that was a real shock.

Roll on August:moped: :moped: :hyper:

Yes I am flying from Manchester, I don't actually know what time my flight is. But it's a non-stop Virgin Flight to MCO. Might be the same one!

I bet it is the same one. There is one flight in the morning and the other one goes in the afternoon.

I did check and I think the time said 10.25am, so it's definitely the morning one! I'll probably go to the airport hotel the night before in that case.

Don't know what thermometer you were using but it was never that hot last August!
We were there for the whole month and the temperature was between 88 and 100 all month. The previous year was the same.
Going again this August. The weather is very hot but we don't mind it.
In the past 2 years we've probably been caught in 5 rain storms in total.
Sometimes it depends where you are in Orlando. You can be in disney and avoid the storms that are over universal.

Been early August and it was scorching. Every time we looked at the park maps we could not stand still for more than 30 secs with out running for shade. It was too hot to sun bathe in the direct sunshine and the water in the pool at pop was like getting in to a hot bath.
It is do able if you take you time and make use of the air conditioning every where and drink plenty.
