I lost my (49 yr.old)brother to Melanoma just 40 days ago. When I read Laurie's thread about her 34 yr old step-daughter,I knew from her description of her symptoms that the end was near for her. I'm so,so sorry for her family's loss.
Malignant Melanoma is different than all over cancers. It is extremely aggressive. My brother had a very small mole on his back diagnosed in September of 2006. I immediately went online and researched. What I found was not encouraging. The stats were that he may live for 2 years with treatment, which he did.
On March 30th,his doctor told him to go home and enjoy his family. There was nothing left to do. He died 5 weeks later,on May 6th.My family is devastated. we will never be the same. We are all learning to live a new "normal" without him.Steven was a guy devoted to living the healthy life, always exercising, eating the right foods taking the right vitimins. What he didn't do is stay out of the sun.
After he died I went online and read dozens of blogs written by people with Melanoma. Almost all of them were young people. Quite a few were children. All because of exposure to the sun.
My mission is to warn and educate people about staying safe in the sun and avoiding tanning beds. The sun is much stronger now than it was 30 years ago. Please, protect you skin!

sincerely,

Hugs to you and your family. Walking the path of life after a loved one dies isn't easy. It does get easier but you never forget.

Hugs to you, I am so sorry to read about your brother, 49 years old, horrifying... Melanoma is another bad one to have and so aggressive. People just do not get how strong the sun is and how dangerous it can be... You do what you can from your end and I am right behind you educating in my neck of the woods. I just do not understand why people do not get it.

Hey,I'm from MA too. I wish Melanoma had the same focus on it as Breast cancer. It is incredibly alarming how many young people die from this cancer.
