Grand Gatherings and DVC

Does anyone know if you can do a Grand Gathering when staying at DVC on points? Or do you have to stay at a regular Disney Resort?

You can do it if you're staying on points, we did it last Thanksgiving!

Call member services and tell them you want to do a GG. They will email you a GG number. Then you can book what you want.

thats the link for the special products only grand gatherings can book, 8 or more people have to reserve.

We got a grand gathering number for our december trip, But have decided not to book any of the "special products"

I heard it helps when you have multiple rooms at a resort - that you might be closer together, also I think you book the dinner through the group dining number so they are used to booking larger groups, Someone please correct me if I am wrong about this?:confused3
