View Full Version : The Fort is Empty

I can't believe how empty the Fort is this week. There's loops that only have maybe 20-30 sites full.
How empty is it?
Glad you asked!
It's so empty, Dick Van **** and Julie Andrews personally introduced the Mary Poppins movie last night.
MMBYBBQ was held at site 1414.
They used the Boston Whalers for ferries to the MK.
People were pool hopping TO the FW's pools.
They used Shetland ponies for the Hay Ride.
The Electrical Parade was two CM's with flash lights.
The HDDR was held in the cabin where the Wishes sound system is.
Feel free to add your own " How empty was the Fort "

They announced that hotel tax stays were down .5% last month, and that overall last month Orlando had less rooms booked than previous months and last year.
So it looks like the "hurt" has finally arrived, don't worry, it won't be dead for long, but overall, it probably won't be a packed summer.

AAaaaaggghhhh!!!!!! These are GRE-E-E-A-A-AT!! SCGal...you're a keeper!!!
On a serious note, the 2000 loop had 5 filled sites the Monday morning that we were there...it was so, so quiet I LOVED it!! Of coarse, by Thursday evening it was filled back up, but the empty days were really nice.

The campfire program was held at the grill on site 919 and they found a pair of cooperative squirrels to play the parts of Chip and Dale.
The nightly movie was projected on a sheet hanging on the side of the 5'er on site 919.
The mini-van's that replaced the busses have been replaced by golf carts.
They've closed all the comfort stations except the one on the 1200 loop to conserve energy. You must sign up for a time to use the shower and are limited to use a toilet only two times per day and bring your own T.P.
Wi-Fi has been limited to T.E., MTP, and the Front Desk. (Oh... that's where it's normally limited to - forget that one!)

The otters & peacocks have joined forces and stepped up to the plate. They have built toll gates on the path leading to WL and are charging $5/person to use it. If you're carrying a towel and have the suspicious look of a pool-hopper, the charge is $10/person.
Golf Cart rentals have been changed to Mo-ped rentals:moped: .

It must be really bad if the otters and peacocks are taking our beer money at a golf cart path check point.

I bet I could get through for one bottle of beer if Breckenridge the Otter is there! he's a notorious drunk!

It is fun to watch the ebb and flow of the sites when you are there for awhile. I was there for 2 weeks in October, and had approximately 4 sets of neighbors on either side. When I arrived on a Saturday, the place was full, almost a party atmosphere, Monday was a holiday, so by Monday afternoon, it was empty!!, then as the week went on, it slowly filled up, then by Sunday afternoon, it was VERY empty, then by the time I left the following Saturday, it was full again!!

I looked at some pictures on the photo board not to long ago of the parks on an empty day and they almost seemed spooky, it wouldn't seem like disney world to me if I wasn't bumping into people to get to a ride or having to wait for a table. :scared1:

Mardi Gras where? In New Orleans or at WDW? Could be either. So many of us New Orleanians go to WDW for Mardi Gras. :goodvibes

They throw bead at just about every parade now - well - except ones in Plant City, Fl (just outside of Tampa). Some 8 or 9 year old kid actually dove underneath a float to retrieve some beads, and was run over by the float & killed. The city gov't immediately banned beads from any future parades.

We just got from the Fort last Saturday. I agree the fort had less people then we expected. Even the parks wern't that bad until the last few days we were there. We were in Hollywood Studios on Friday the 6th and it was so packed we left after a few hours. The lines were over an hour long for everything. It was horrible.
