We brought home our 2003 Kodiak 215 HTT tonight and I am in love. When we signed the paperwork they offered us an after market warranty. It would cover almost everything except the bunk ends and the roof. It was @$1,700 for 4 years. My main question is how long does the average fridge,A/C, oven last? My first thought was no way but now I am not sure.

we have a friend who bought a 1973 MH with all original working appliances, and then again someone mentioned on the board their frig quit after a few years. This advice may be worth what you paid for it, but you could put $1700.00 in a savings account for repairs.

My dad has a 81 TT and the only thing that we have replaced is the heater. I just got rid of my 95 5er. I bought the warranty with it and used it to replace the elec. jack legs and the A/C. So I say its a gamble. With our new TT I skipped the ext. warranty.

I would think you probably wouldn't need it. The appliances are going to last over 4 years I am sure.

We had to make a repair to our fridge...and it wasn't $1700.00. Was about $275.00. That included the labor and the parts..and having someone travel to the campground we're seasonal in to do the repair. It wasn't cheap, but sure was cheaper than buying a new one. Of course it was just out of warranty. Even at that..it was no $1700.00. I think that is ALOT. I'd just assume pay for a repair. Just my two cents...and you know what that's worth!

the frig on our 2001 kicked the bucket after only a couple years,
I say as mentioned put the 1700.00 in savings and use that for any incidental repairs, most extended warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on.

I agree, save your money. Our 1981 trailer still had the original A/C and heater when we got rid of it last year. I replaced the water heater after about 15 years just because and we did have to have the refer replaced when it was just over 15 years old.

IMHO...
Too expensive to consider it a warranty. More like a "pre-payment" plan to replace your appliances as you could almost replace every one in your trailer for $1700. I wouldn't bother.
As far as trailer appliances, they are reasonably reliable but ultimately it depends on how they were cared for.
Your 3-way dometic fridge will last a very long time if it was primarily run on propane. Sometimes the electric heating elements fail, but its not uncommon to see units >15 years old working flawlessly.
Propane range/oven and propane furnace...will probably outlast the canvas.
Propane W/H last a good long time if cared for but as with anything in the water system, corrosion is your enemy.
A/C really depends on how much its been used and how HARD its been used.
In short - "it depends" but if everything works now on your 2003, you are probably in good shape for a number of years.
Enjoy!

Our first Class A MH was a 1978 Southwind which we bought in 1991. The fridge was still in A-1 condition - and was the original. Nah....save your money. Warranties are what salespeople call "the cheese"!! They make nice commissions off of them.
That being said, my DH is now a salesman for H.H. Gregg. If any of you go and buy an appliance, TV, or sound system from him... the extended warranties are absolutely necessary!!!:thumbsup2 (Ka-ching!!)
