We will be staying in POFQ in October. My husband who is disabled, will be unable to do whole days in the parks, so will probably stay in the room during the mornings. My question is are there 'do not disturb signs' and can we request housekeeping later in the day?

Yes, there are "do not disturb" signs

Yes, you can get housekeeping later in the day

We often do this if we're working in the room and have only RARELY had a problem with NOT getting housekeeping service. However, a few times, if we've been in the room nearly all day --housekeeping has been kind enough to leave fresh towels, hand towels, wash cloths, soap, shampoo, and tissues in a "linen bag" for us so that they didn't disturb us :)

I haven't stayed in POFQ. We usually stay at the All-Star resorts. We are late risers and typically don't leave the room and remove the do not disturb sign until around noon. We've never had any problem getting housekeeping after we leave.

There are "Do not Disturb" signs in all rooms.
On your room phone, there is a button labeled "Housekeeping". You can use that to request things (like more tissues), but you can also use it to request Housekeeping schedule cleaning for a certain range of time.

I agree with Sue that I would call housekeeping when he is ready to leave and let them know to clean your room. I seem to attract bad housekeeping and once I figured this out it has worked like a charm.

I personally did not like it that sometimes if the cleaner went by the room while we were in it that they would just come back with that big back of "do it yourself" stuff and I had to make the beds, etc.! That happened to us every day our first time at POFQ - my son napped in the afternoon (like 1-3pm). We were out of the room from 9am to 1pm and would get back - the room had not been cleaned. He had to nap and then when he got up we had already gotten the bag.

Yeah they're usually pretty good with following the do not disturb signs.

You should REQUEST this in advance to make sure, also when you arrive see if they can place you in a corner or a wing where there may not be so many guests so you are further NOT disturbed.

we always request the top floor, that if there are people running back to the room or away, at least its below you.

We've had problems sometimes when the room wasn't serviced in the morning and come back to nap, and get the knock on the door, its irritating when you just fell asleep.

I'll have to remember to request service in the morning those days.
