Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are driving down to Disney from the Washington, DC area and want to stay overnight at a nice town/tourist area on the way.

Where should we stay? We'd like a place close to I-95 (less than an hour out of our way). We thought of possibly the Disney Hilton Head resort but we may prefer to stay oceanfront if we go to a beach area. We'd like to be at least 8 hours from DC so we won't be more than 5 hours from Disney the next day. We would like to relax a bit but not spend too much time there. We definitely don't want to stay at just any hotel, we'd like a nice resort town.

Any suggestions?? Where do you stay overnight on your way to Disney?

I'd appreciate any input you have.
Thanks!

Welcome to the DIS. :)

DW and I live in Richmond and have driven down the last few times we've gone. Driving about 8 hours puts us around Savannah. I'm not sure how far the ocean is from I-95 at any given point, but looking at the map of the Carolinas it's not close until you get toward the southern tip of South Carolina. I'm sure people more familiar with that area can help you there.

If you want to be within 5 hours of WDW the next day, I would at least get as far as Savannah. From there it's approx. 2-2.5 hours to Jacksonville and then another 2-2.5 hours to Orlando.

Here is a thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=179828) where others shared their experiences, both recommendations and cautions.

Hope you have a fun and safe trip! :)

Obi-wan Pinobi.

Thanks for the reply! You give good advice. I checked out that thread, but no one seemed to stay in a resort town, but rather hotels right on 95. I think your Savannah idea is one I will check out.
Thanks for your help!
