When my oldest daughter started bringing boy friends around, if I didn't like them, I'd sit on the back step sharpening my kbar. It worked pretty well. They never knew what to expect from me partly because of my military background. Hell, sometime I wore my BDUs and camouflage face paint Most of them were downright scared of me. Fear can be a good thing at times.

Oooh, my daughter's 12. I'm going to remember that!

I had two older brothers that kept guys away. I always knew my dad didn't like someone I brought home when he would consistently forget his name from then on. When he remembered a guy's name, I knew I had a keeper - but that didn't happen until I was 30 years old!

My DS had a girlfriend who drove us crazy. I tried I really did, I found over time I just had to ignore it or go nuts. Thank goodness he came to his senses. It took time, but it happened. Unfortunately, it was just a month after we took everyone to WDW. Boy, just think of the money I could have saved it she hadn't been along!

He practiced on ME!!! Whenever someone Al didn't approve of came to pick me up for a date... he'd scare the hell outta them (this was just after he mustarded out of the regular Army). Then I'd get all kinds of bit%y... and he'd "pretty" himself up and take me someplace. I loved the time he took me for dinner & a movie & he (at that time was 25 yrs old) got carded for a drink, and me (at 18 yrs old) didn't!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Our dad would just sit back in his recliner (beer in hand, of course) and laugh his azz off!:lmao:

I'm trying not to over react. It isn't a fortune..but more the fact that she didn't tell me about it. It's just not like her. Which is what probably bothers me more than the money. It was mostly for gas. Oh..this is rich. "Mom do you KNOW how much gas is"...NO....at the rock we live under..we don't use gas:rolleyes1 yes, ::yes:: daughter of mine...THAT'S why I gave you extra money for it. Not much to say about that. She's paying me back. I can honestly say, until she started dating "Mr. I'm in a band" :faint: (yeah..just what every parent wants to hear) we haven't had one bit of trouble.

Only now..I would like to send her to a convent in Italy...yes,::yes:: I think that would be very educational and she's always wanted to travel. There ya go...sounds perfect..don't ya think? Anyway, thanks for letting me vent..appreciate it.

I've got one living on his own, but only working at a crappy job and I just hope he's not starving and is making his car payment so he doesn't ruin his credit. I just wish he could get back in school or join the Coast Guard or something. I also worry every day that he doesn't do something stupid like get married.

The other is still in school and making the grades, but is living at home and just a generally lazy 20yo guy.

I'm ready for them to grow UP!!!!

OK, All I can say is, I'm glad I have boys!! Although I have told my oldest that he is only allowed to join the coast guard. He said he wanted to be a pirate at disney, then a fighter jet pilot & then a space shuttle astronaut. I told him he could fly helicopters in the Coast Guard.

Oh, he graduated from Pre-K last Thursday night. He got 100% on all 4 areas that they test them on. Yeah!!:cloud9:

Then I come down w/ strep throat last Friday & spent ALL w/e in bed. Ben had it too, but wasn't as bad.

Ok, have to go home now. I've been super busy at work lately, so hopefully things will start to calm down now & I can be on more.

I need some prayers tonight. I have a 9:30am interview with the former county I worked in. I dropped off a resume today and 4 hours later she leaves a message on my machine to come in tomorrow morning.

After hearing from my mechanic today that my jeep might have been wrecked and not reported to CARFAX and that might be the cause of all my vibrations at 50mph, I sure needed this....

I would imagine he's probably in ICU for at least 24 hours after surgery. No phones, no puters anywhere nearby. You are practically a prisoner in their little waiting room to be summoned by the Dr's, etc.

My DH is in a similar situation. He now works for a car repair shop in a less affluent part of town, and for example today this lady brought in a POS car to see what was wrong with it. His technician looked it over and couldn't tell anything without doing a diagnostic which is $35.00. The lady OK'd the diagnostic and then it turns out the problem is a $600 job. DH knew from the get go that she wouldn't be able to pay for the repairs, but what bites is her debit card doesn't authorize the $35 for the diagnostic, so now he has to fight with and tell her he can't release the car till she pays that.

Since I got my first beer I am already in a better mood. Here is a joke.

An Amish father and son go to the mall. This is the first time they have ever been away from their compound. They were just so amazed of all the fancy stuff. The thing that amazed them the most was these two shiny metal doors that would open up to a small room. They sat and watched for awhile, then this rather unattractive, quite obese lady with bad hygiene walked up and pushed the button. The doors open and the lady walks into the room and the doors close and the numbered lights above the doors starts counting up 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10, then starts counting down 10.9.8.7.6.5.4.3.2.1. The doors open up and this beautifully built, gorgeous blond lady is standing in the room. The father looks at the son and says "Go get your mother."

I just found out when I came back to the computer. Very sad, I did enjoy watching him on Sundays. He seemed like a heck of a nice guy. I admire his love of family and how he never seemed to forget his working class roots. He will be missed.

Wow... just got home & read about Tim Russert on iGoogle. He died from a heart attack at 58... not much older than me! I read his books: "Wisdom of our Fathers" and "Big Russ and Me". They depict a very tender and thoughtful side of Tim. Both books are well worth reading.

Well... I raise a Smithwick (actually my second) in honor of Tim Russert:drinking1 . I enjoyed his commentary and style - even though I didn't always agree with him.


BTW Al, after the MGDD - I am now a tried & true Smithwick drinker. Ireland's oldest ale (or so it says on the bottle).

Tim was a huge sports fan -- was a big booster of all Buffalo sports. Too bad. That's all that's on the news here. Tom Brokaw was one of his best fiends.

White Castle Sliders
Get a pound of 85% lean ground beef, and divide into 16 equal sized pieces.
Form each into a 2−1/2 inch square patties. Do this on waxed paper. Make
the patties very thin. Then "cookie−cut" five holes in each pattie.
(the pattern should resemble 5 on a dice) A CLEAN pen cap works nicely.
Freeze these 16 patties. (It'll make it easier later)
BUNS: the buns are also small. My grocer has dinner rolls the exact size
I need, but you might have to create your own using hot dog buns. One
hot−dog bun makes two White Castle buns. Simply cut in half (through top
and bottom) and then cut off the rounded sides to make them square.
COOKING: This is key. You need to finely chop a medium white onion.
On a pre−heated 375 degree electric griddle, lay about 1−1/2 Tablespoons
of onion for each patty you want to cook (generously spray with non−stick
spray like Pam first) The onions should only be "one deep" if you will.
Immediately place frozen patty directly on top of onions and press down.
Cook for about 4 minutes right on top of the onions. The holes in the beef
will allow the steam to cook the top side. (You don't flip)
Add a dash of salt and a pinch of pepper to each patty while they cook.
Remove and place on UNTOASTED buns.

Deb- Can I pretty please have a recap of the last 20 freaking pages ?!?! :) I am back from D.C with a sinus infection and a broken laptop. I am soooo behind on my boards. I have over 400 e-mails to sort through and yet here I am trying to catch up on THIS board ;) And I see you all went and divided it up on me while I was gone. Geez, leave you alone for a few days....

Washington was GREAT. But it was sweltering !! Over 100 each day with the heat index. HIGH humidity and not much breeze. We were all exhausted after a whole day of touring memorials and monuments. We had two kids pass out at Arlington because of the heat :( They were ok, but we ended up driving by a couple of other memorials after that and just staying in the bus with the a/c on. It was awful. We did get a special VIP tour of the Capitol building with Senator Kennedy's aides thanks to a mom in our group. We got to sit in on a senate session and get an underground tour and see some *secret* places the public doesn't usually get to go....very cool :thumbsup2 We also did all of the usual places along with the Flight 93 memorial and Gettysburg (which was very cool even for someone who isn't a war buff).

The Geek Squad has my laptop and we just got our internet hooked up to our main computers tonight so it feels REALLY good to finally be back online.

We haven't had anymore bat activity while I was away. Maybe the sonar things are working. Or maybe just the increased activity level in that part of the house is driving them away. My kids are totally capable of that :rotfl2:

I am going to mark this whole forum as read and PLEASE tell me if I missed anything good this week. I hate feeling out of the loop !! :confused:

Al, the interview went well. It helps that I already knew the principal, I worked for her when she was an AP about 9 years ago. The AP was confused to why I wanted to go back to elementary school because of the type of technology I deal with in HS, but I hope I satisfied his curiosity. I won't know anything until the middle of next week. Teaching jobs in that county are really scarce this year, so I will keep my fingers crossed. There is nothing on the coaching front, however, I haven't really gone there yet. My softball girls are still texting me, telling me that the admins will not let the parents or players talk to them in a meeting. I feel so sorry for them.

Hey all,

I'm with Shannone, way too much to catch up on, I'm not even going to try. I'll just wait for the rerun.:lmao: I just wanted to let you all know that Jim had his surgery yesterday and is doing well. It was a very LOOOOONNNNGGG day. He went into the OR at 11:30am and we got word that he was in the recovery room around 6:15pm. Aleise my 9 year old was getting very worried because it was taking so much longer than they had said. I didn't want to show her, but I was too. The doctor said it was a really hard case, and they had to go really slow. He didn't get into the ICU until almost 8. What a long day. So far so good, we just need to watch for wound infection, and sepsis(sp?) because that kidney was just a big pouch of infected puss(lovely image isn't it?).They are keeping an eye out for pnemonia too. His blood pressure is looking great though, and he isn't showing any signs of disreflexia which is awesome. He does have a slight fever and his white blood cells are elevated, but they think that is due to everything that has happened in the last 24 hours. He is out of ICU now, so now we just wait and hope he heals quickly. He still has one more surgery, on his right kidney, that they hope to be able to do in 2 weeks. That one isn't as serious though, so healing time should be less. We hope. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and well wishes. I truley believe that it helps. I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Pete finally got his wish for a community board.

He almosted banished a few people from this board right off the bat (myself included).

Wildfan1473's 6 year old knows the song- "In Heaven There is No Beer"! Which impresses me and Al very much.

Jen had an interview for a job in a neighboring school system.

There were a lot of bad storms in Pa & Wi that affected some of our Dis-er's - but they are okay.

RVUsa John took a trip and was away from the boards for awhile & also wanted a re-cap.

Ami's DD sliced her foot open & needed stitches & is looking for a rubber sock same DD can wear so she can go swimming.

Someone won 1 million dollars on the Price is Right. (It wasn't any of us, so that is truly useless information)

There was a discussion about going fishing.

Pete publicly stated he wanted an Ultimate Wife to do his beck and call.

Mrs. Gatordad quickly reprimanded him stating she was HIS ultimate wife.

Pete apologized and said his wife was the dearest.

Phyllis' daughter almost died at the hands of her mother.

We all calmed Phyllis down.

Ynottony99 got married on Thursday and just kinda snuck that announcement in on the regular board, but we all caught it!!

A rabid otter went on a biting rampage.

John's PO'd over something about his website. My guess is his little Indian guy messed up again.

Rog gave John the following pep talk: WTH???? Ya cant just QUIT!!!!!Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... the tough get goin'!

have any of you been to a toddler's party where there is FREE alcohol for the adults? they had all the beer you could drink and romanian red wine! DH was in heaven and guess who got to drive!

we stayed from 4 to 7:30...and never saw but 1/3 of the house...what did i do wrong in life???:confused3

It was a good weekend for us. After a long week of work, dh and I stayed up way to late on Friday having way too many beers. Saturday morning was recovery time and then we went "window shopping" for grills all Saturday afternoon (for dh's Father's Day present). We did some research on the grills that we liked Saturday evening. I'm really glad that we did that...one of our favorites had tons of bad reveiws! This morning the girls and I made breakfast for dh. Then we went to purchase the Fathers Day present. Dh spent the afternoon putting it together. Then tonight, he cooked *us* dinner on it, ha.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Happy Father's Day to all of the Dad's out there!!

Enjoying nice summer weather?? This is the time of year Floridians stay INSIDE their homes. It's just too danged hot outside. When northerner's say they could never live in Florida in the summer because it's too hot, I give them the deer in the headlights look. Hot? Oh, it's not hot. We actually have air conditioned homes, cars, stores, everything! And guess what??? I don't need to wear some big bulky coat to get from one to the other... or boots, gloves, scarves, hats, snow tires, storm windows, etc....When you live in Florida, you just reverse your thinking. Inside in the summer, outside in the winter.... instead of vice versa.

We had an interesting weekend. The first swim meet of the summer was Saturday. My son decided competing was the "coolest thing" he's ever done. Great, now he's got the bug. My daughter, who isn't much of a competitor just needs to shave 3 seconds off her time in one event and she'll qualify for the State meet. If she does that, it's off to San Antonio for us! I think the winning bug may be nibbling a little slower on her, I caught her practicing in the lap pool at the rec center today instead of playing on the slides.

Father's Day was good, DH got a new super duper camp chair complete with side table.

We popped up the camper to test the AC (it got up to 100 degrees today). We're a little worried it won't hold up under Florida's August heat for two weeks. We could only get it down to 85 degrees inside the camper today. Gotta do better than that!

That's funny! In the winter when the southern states get a couple of inches of snow and close everything down we giggle...then last week here in upstate NY we hit 97 degrees with high humidity and schools and events were closed because of heat! Alot of schools don't have air conditioning here and we don't know how to deal in the heat!

It went fine, almost like I expected it to. The asst. principal could not figure out why I wanted to go back to elementary school considering the amount of tech knowledge I have, but hopefully I got the point clear to him in a polite way. I have taught under the principal when she was an AP years ago, so we will see how it pans out in the next couple of days. Thanks for asking!

After my dad has his triple bypass, he was proud of his "zipper". Looks like we got an industrial-size zipper there.

Holy cow. Just got back from our rained-out Cub Scout Day Camp. We did activities for a couple of hours and then the weather hit. I had six 2nd and 3rd grade boys, 60mph winds, monsoon rain (literally). I was laying across the backs of these boys just trying to keep debris off of them. My phone totally fried. We finally got to the storm shelter after a bunch of hefty workmen literally picked up my boys and our wagon and carried them there. We had crying scouts everywhere. All our stuff is blown to smithereens. We were supposed to have 3 more days of camp - but there may be nothing left. $85 bucks per kid, gone with the wind.

At least they are all safe and home now. And of course, it's quite nice outside in the aftermath.

Why did I want to kill some campers? I realize that this statement sounds very un-camper-like. Very un-Ami-like, too for that matter. I am usually very quiet...peace loving, you know? But I have my reasons. I could go on for hours and divulge years of pent up frustrations. But I won't....

What it boils down to is the inconsiderate nature of one particular ....guy. As a family they are a force....a force of what I'm not really sure. He is rude to me and I guess thinks I'm a fat fiesty slob who should feel honored to do his bidding; He is also an a$$ to his wife who is clearly deserving of sainthood for putting up with him;
but
the way he treats my children is just more than any mother can handle! He always drops comments that are meant to be demeaning...and he always chooses one of my daughters per trip to bare the brunt of his foul mood. Last year it was Meija, who pretty much keeps to herself and is very mature and repectful. This time it was Annalise, who is a firecracker...but..... It started the first night when my 7 year old was playing Kung Fu (thanks to Kung Fu panda) with his 6 year old son. It was going fine until the son fell down (yeah, she pushed him....all in good fun). Well this guy comes barreling over, yelling at my DD saying "what the he** are you thinking pushing down a poor kid who's sleepy? You should have more sense than that! Come on, why are you so mean?" blah blah blah and he gets this tone...condescending...the kind that makes you want to knock him upside the head.

I finally got him to shut his trap and hopefully embarrassed him when he realized that it was a game and my DD is just much stonger than his son. This lead to comments the rest of the trip about Annalise being mean and his son doesn't want to be with her.."I can't imagine why!" When clearly, his son thinks the sun rises and sets in Annalise and the one with the issue is dear old dad.

There are a million other things...but I would fill up the entire chit chat thread so I'll stop there.

I'm with Rog on that one. I HATE a bully. But especially, a man who obviously suffers from short man syndrome. I'll lay odds this guy is 5ft nothing but wants the world to view him as a big "he man". Or...maybe he suffers from another kind of short man syndrome.... if ya know what I mean!! :lmao: But to pick on kids, animals & the elderly or people with any kind of disability, and for me to see it, well... that's a challenge I can't refuse!! It is a great sport for me to go into battle with people like that. Kinda like a hobby or something!!! You should see me in action at a theme park sometimes with the way some parents treat their overtired, sunburnt kids. Lemme at 'em!!! My DH just walks away hanging his head - thinking "there she goes again". :eek:

My DD was at Hawaiian Falls in Garland when the first wave of that storm blew through. I got rather soaked going to my car at lunch, then later again in the second wave when I left to pick DD from the church after Hawaiian Falls. We also have about 30 feet of fence flat on the ground now at home.

Back when this hardware was installed there was a 6 inch incision on the outside of my right ankle and a 3 inch incision on the inside. The surgeon didn't use a single stitch or staple. He held it together with surgical superglue and tape. Still have some impressive scars.

Ready to strangle my kid!!!!!!

My youngest has been out of school since early May and has worked 1 day all summer. One of my DHs customers works for the staffing agency that hires the folks that set up for concerts and events at our Civic Center. (Meaning free admission to some potentially really cool concerts, sporting events, and fights).

My son talks to her a couple of weeks ago, but she didn't have any openings then.

She calls yesterday, and son is sleeping all day with his phone off. She calls my DH at work to let us know she has an opening. I'm home for lunch and tell my son, and he is really blase about calling her back, but I guess he finally does and has an appointment this morning at 8am.

Goes to the appointment, gets hired, but tells the lady he can't start till next week!!! :faint:

Believe me, this kid has NOTHING to do, he just doesn't want to work :furious:

The staffing lady calls DH and tells him this, and DH informs her my son can start tomorrow.

So at least he now has a job, but only because we stepped on his head and made him. :confused3

That glue is pretty incredible, I think. I had weight loss surgery almost a year ago...they made 6 incisions and removed my my stomach through one of them. Not a single stitch, all glue. one of the incisions seperated but it healed darn near flawlessly. the "scars" are nothing more than minor skin discolorations now.

I was really surprised when I discovered that there wasn't a single stitch. I think the swelling in my ankle probably had some affect on the degree of scarring and is probably part of the reason they are as visible as they are.

It was a real trip when the doc removed the hardware. He just made a tiny incision above each screw head and backed the screws out, another incision at the top and bottom of the plate and pushed it out. I could even feel the screws as they backed out of the bone. He only had me on a local and mild sedative during the removal so I was pretty aware of everything that went on.

I don't have any hardware in my ankle YET. But it is coming, it will be the 3rd operation on it. The first left me with a scar that goes from about 1 inch behind my little toe, back my foot, around the bump of my ankle bone thingy, and up my calf about 10". and then there is one right in the front about 5" long. The doctor was a QUACK!!! He used staples, about 70 of them, left them in my cast for 8 WEEKS, and then had a tech try to remove them, they were all covered with skin and etc. I was SCREAMING, the poor tech was shaking thinking I was going to kill him LOL.

Well second op was to fix the first ones mistakes, (he lost his license about 4 months after my surgery, but not because of me :( ) That is a second scar on the front same length, about 1/4 inch over, and one on the back of my calf, to transplant my nerve that the first quack cut, now if you touch the back of my leg, I "feel" it in my foot. LOL

Well next surgery will be a slice in the sole of my foot to insert a 16" rod up through everything, and then a slice on both sides in the front (for a total of 4 scars) to put all kinds of plates and screws.... :woohoo: NOT!

My son and wife already call me Frankenfoot!

They just got out of school and we DID keep them pretty busy helping us move and all of that. BUT this is the last week she is getting away with it. I have been in the OR during a couple of knee surgeries, I am not surprised that they hurt so bad.

My 15 y/o works 8 hrs on Saturdays and 6 hrs on Sunday (he only works Sundays when school is out) He is actually trying to get more hours. Our 17 y/o works a couple evenings a week and half a day Saturday during school and a couple extra short shifts during the summer. They both enjoy their jobs and I like that they have to make their own budgets and handle their won money.

the way he treats my children is just more than any mother can handle! He always drops comments that are meant to be demeaning...and he always chooses one of my daughters per trip to bare the brunt of his foul mood. Last year it was Meija, who pretty much keeps to herself and is very mature and repectful. This time it was Annalise, who is a firecracker...but..... It started the first night when my 7 year old was playing Kung Fu (thanks to Kung Fu panda) with his 6 year old son. It was going fine until the son fell down (yeah, she pushed him....all in good fun). Well this guy comes barreling over, yelling at my DD saying "what the he** are you thinking pushing down a poor kid who's sleepy? You should have more sense than that! Come on, why are you so mean?" blah blah blah and he gets this tone...condescending...the kind that makes you want to knock him upside the head.

I finally got him to shut his trap and hopefully embarrassed him when he realized that it was a game and my DD is just much stonger than his son. This lead to comments the rest of the trip about Annalise being mean and his son doesn't want to be with her.."I can't imagine why!" When clearly, his son thinks the sun rises and sets in Annalise and the one with the issue is dear old dad.


Must be in the name, well similar name. My Aleise dropped one of our friend's son on the ground. He was teasing her and being a real jerk. He bent over to pick something up and she plowed him. Then they wrestled for a bit. My DH never stopped her. He said, I wasn't going to stop her he deserved it and she was kicking his %$@. They haven't really talked to us in a year. Oh well.

Ready to strangle my kid!!!!!!

My youngest has been out of school since early May and has worked 1 day all summer. One of my DHs customers works for the staffing agency that hires the folks that set up for concerts and events at our Civic Center. (Meaning free admission to some potentially really cool concerts, sporting events, and fights).

My son talks to her a couple of weeks ago, but she didn't have any openings then.

She calls yesterday, and son is sleeping all day with his phone off. She calls my DH at work to let us know she has an opening. I'm home for lunch and tell my son, and he is really blase about calling her back, but I guess he finally does and has an appointment this morning at 8am.

Goes to the appointment, gets hired, but tells the lady he can't start till next week!!! :faint:

Believe me, this kid has NOTHING to do, he just doesn't want to work :furious:

The staffing lady calls DH and tells him this, and DH informs her my son can start tomorrow.

So at least he now has a job, but only because we stepped on his head and made him. :confused3

Oh...I've got a girl for him!
Remember me with the daughter I wanted to strangle last week. This week she has an appt. for a lifeguarding job. She is certified in CPR..adult and children. She swims like a fish. LOVES it. Took all this lifeguarding course as part of her gym requirement for college. She was determined (or so we thought) to lifeguard this summer. The pay is actually pretty good. She works part time in my brothers law office, but figured this would be a nice change of pace for her, and she seemed so enthused about it. Why not? She had an interview on Mon. at 12...wasn't feeling well, changed it to today at 4 pm. Okay. No problem you say. Only she has never been to this particular park before. I ask her at 3:15..if she was leaving, and she says.."not yet..it's only 10 minutes away. Well, yeah..but if you've never been there before..maybe there's traffic or something. Or how about just getting there early and making a good impression?. Nahh..."don't worry about it ma". Okay...at 4:30 I get a call that she first went to the park..but the front gate told her she was at the wrong park(there are two parks with the same name within a few miles of each other..go figure..but it's true). She winds up at he second park, where they apologize for the error, and send her back to the first(following this so far:rolleyes1 ...yeah..me neither). Anyway, back to the first park..where the person who was supposed to time her and interview her LEFT for the day. So now, she is re-scheduled for Saturday. :scared: Of course she blames the receptionist who sent her to the wrong park..and should have know she was in the right place..since the second park doesn't even have a pool. You know..if she would have left earlier..even if this still all happened, and she wants to blame someone else...she STILL would have wound up where she needed to be and been on time for the interview. THAT would mean ..oh I don't know.. LISTENING TO YOUR MOTHER!:furious:

Mind you..it's her idea to lifeguard. Only I'm pretty sure you have to get off your a** to do that. Oh..and she only knew about the openings because I asked at one of the joint district pools I dropped my son and some friends off at last Sunday. She makes calls..and waits for them to be returned. Which of course they're not. I think Mr. POS boyfriend is behind her sudden the lack of motivation. He likes meeting her for lunch when she works at the office, because he lives near by. Hold..on..gotta :crazy2:
I swear, I keep praying..but nothing. God..ya gotta help me out here.:worried:

I think its great she stood up to him....hopefully if he learns an early lesson that women won't accept being bullied maybe he will grow up to respect them!!! That is my hope anyway!!!

You people had some nasty surgeries. I guess i'm not at that age yet!:lmao: I will not whine about the stitches i had anymore. I feel guilty now.

theimage is on t shirts and on a canvas but is not much clearer thatn what you have there...dark and murky for trying to play with...sorry
