I hope so too. I love Chicago and it's only about a 4.5 hour drive from home. I'd love to go see some of the events.
I was sad to hear that they are thinking about getting rid of softball. We are a baseball/softball family and we love watching the women kick butt !! popcorn::

The Hotel took up so much room there was no room to expand the park, which became boring. So they tore it down to build the Oprymills Outlet Mall. That sent alot of business to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, they doubled their attendance.

I have a wonderful friend that lives in Mount Juliet that I taught with down here. We both grew up here in and went to the rival HS's. She is just shy of 30 and just had #4 in July. What a brave soul. My kid goes up there and fits right in. He is 6 days older than her second kid. It is like watching a bunch of little indians. We were thinking of going back up there this coming summer, but something just came up that might post pone that a year.

They wouldn't add to, up date, refurb, or maintain the theme park. So some one said, "Hey, a 20.00 theme park tic or stick it to'em at 200.00 a pop!"
No contest. No more theme park.
But I will say, it is one beautiful hotel ,,that I'll never stay at.

At what age did you get your kids cell phones. I swore my kids would have to wait until they were older but, my DD12 is playing on the volleyball team this year and has lots of away games that there's no way with work schedules and the other kids that we can make it to the games. So i'm thinking I would feel more comfortable if she has a way to contact me if she needs to. So whats your opinions! Should they have them or not?

I'm not a parent....
I am 22 so I am sort of at the beginning of the cell phone generation and my parents rule was that I had to wait until I had my drivers license (which I got at 16) so I got my phone at 16 and this was also when all my friends got their phones. Now my brother who is 17 now, he got his phone in 7th or 8th grade. I guess my parents broke their rule.... the youngest always gets rules broken for them :rotfl:
But, when I was in high school before I turned 16, my mom gave me her phone when I was going with friends. So I still had a phone, just not mine. I got my own at 16 once I received my license.

I would think safety first- not to mention for your peace of mind. Get her a phone and set some rules.

I think 12 is ok with rules, like mentioned before. There are actually programmable phones which only let the kids dial specified #'s.
Amanda, we just gave dd9 a phone. The reason we did is because she is on the go so much with sports, friends etc. I felt better knowing she had a way to always get in contact with us. She knows her limits with the phone. She mostly only allowed to use it on the weekends to call friends. Also, it's a GREAT motivator...."if you don't keep your room clean, then you'll loose your phone for a week!" :rotfl:

Our dd's (12 and 14) have each had one for a year now. We have strict rules though....they are only allowed to call US !! We tell them if they want to talk to their friends...they can call them at home. The phones are strictly for situations where they need to get in touch with us while they are at after school activities, softball practices, etc. They also come in handy while camping...the kids can go off on their own and we can still keep in touch if we need to.

Am I the only one who misses the "Chit Chat" thread ?? :confused3
We are camping right now at our membership campground one town over. The girls usually have friends over while we are here since we are pretty close to home. My son (who is 7.5) is always whining "there is nothing to do- no one to play with" despite the fact that we do family things with him all the time. The girls are allowed to go to the pool or rent kayaks/paddleboats on their own. He obviously can't go without us. He doesn't seem to be able to find anything on his own to do. Once in awhile he will go up to the playground or family center...but mostly he hangs out here waiting for the next thing we are going to do with him.
Sometimes, I just want to chill with a book, you know ??
So I thought maybe he is old enough this year to have a friend come hang out for the day. I explained to my DS that they could go to the playground, go for a bike ride, play in the family center, or play with all of the lawn games we have on the field right behind our site. I told him I'd take them to the pool for awhile this afternoon....but the rest of the time they are on their own.
I got some good books from the library and was all set to enjoy my quiet afternoon. :thumbsup2
So his friend gets here about 11:00 and as soon as his mom pulls away he starts bouncing around like he is on some sugar high. He can't seem to be CALM at all. The first thing he wants to do is go fishing....which wasn't something we had even planned on doing. My DH is at work and I am not into fishing. I'm not sending a couple of 7 yr olds out there to fish off the shore on their own !! My 14 yr old DD came to the rescue and offered to take them for awhile after lunch.
They came back after 20 minutes because it was too hard for her to help both boys at the same time and they were getting antsy. So now they want me to take them to the pool, and then they want me to take them to the frog pond, then for ice cream.
This was NOT how this day was supposed to go !! :rolleyes1

How is (I think this is it) Lake Lanier doing?
TheFlame
08-26-2008, 11:07 PM
When we left Ga for Fl, Lake Lanier was it's usual dry self, but since Fay has come through my sister said that it has been a monsoon! The area has had anywhere from 3-10in. or more in 2 days and it has and is raining non-stop! The lake should see a rise of a couple of feet from the watershed and it is SOOOOOO needed! It will take years for a recovery but I don't think it ever will. They release and have released so much water and with the drought it will likely stay 10 feet or more below the old norm from now on.:confused3
Glad you are okay Jen!:thumbsup2 Today's the first day we could really enjoy the beach!:)

How is (I think this is it) Lake Lanier doing?
Lake Lanier is east of us, so it's not my 'normal' lake. According to the lake level website, the rain didn't do a whole lot for the lake.
Normal pool is at 1071 feet and the level on the reading for the 26th showed 1053 feet with no rain. The watershed for Lanier is actually the mountains of northeast Georgia.
Anyway, here's the lake level website. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ffc/html/rrm.php?date=2008-08-26+13%3A20%3A11 It's updated about 9:30 AM every morning.
Lake Allatoona, the lake a few miles from me, showed 2 inches of rain and a level of 4.5 feet below full pool.

Yes, we are here until Monday. And I survived 3 days with two 7 year old boys !! :woohoo: I spent afternoons with them at the pool and beach. Okay... it's 10:15, motor home loaded, Gem Car and trailer hooked up to the explorer, laundry done... I'm ready to go!! However - we don't dare get to FtW before 1PM and it only takes 35 minutes to get there. I hate when you arrive b-4 check-in, they don't have a site ready & you get to sit in the parking lot. I'll save diesel (not run generator) and just patiently wait out the time at home.
I had to stuff Wynottah in a closet. She kept jumping up and down hollering "Is it time to go yet? Is it time to go yet?" She drove me crazy - damn otter!!!
On another note...♪ Tuesday one of our young mom's at church stopped by the office & brought her 3 year old daughter with her. This little girl is (1) Precious & Adorable (2) Very inquisitive (3) has an imaginary friend.
The imaginary friend's name is "Otta", and is of all things...an Otter!!! How do these kids think up these things? When I told Kirsten that I have a friend named "Wynottah", and she was an otter too, her eyes got as round as saucers and her voice dropped to a whisper and she asked me if she could see Wynottah sometime. I told her that if she was really good, I'd bring Wynottah to church with me. She's gonna go crazy when I walk into church with my stuffed otter!!

I'd love to see her face when she meets Wynottah.

Hey, Flame!!! Happy to see you back! We received all total 11.5 inches of rain from Fay. It rained non-stop all week. We have a small lake in our development that has been bone dry since the end of 2006. It's back to being 3/4 full now. YIPPEE! We'll have alligators in our back yard again. I'm just sooooo excited about that!
Hey Deb, thanks!:) My son would LOVE the alligators!:thumbsup2 He really wants to have one for a pet and can't understand why that's not possible... well actually it is! Some people that have chicken farms have alligator pits and that is where they dispose of their dead chickens!:scared1: If he knew that he would freak out and insist on getting some! I think I'll just stick to the old fashioned way!
We have to drive an hour out of our way on the way home from the beach Sat. just so he can see the alligators at this place in PC Beach.:confused3
Glad y'all got some much needed rain. I know we got alot at home and I am looking forward to maybe seeing some green grass...been a LONG time! The lake only rose about 3 feet and that is sooooo not very helpful but I am thankful for every little drop!:)

When we 1st arrived it was sorta busy, but as the day went on it was emptying out. We did Everest once and then went to the Nemo Musical. Did Kali RR and as usual I got the worst of the soaking. Did tough to be a bug before going home and rode Everest back to back since there was no wait.
I usually go home much sooner but we were having fun and didn't get home til 9.

Ok...those of you who have been through the hurricane evacuation routine know that usually when you return home...there's a "boil your tap water" warning, right? Dont drink the water announcements on the news or radio every hour at least because it may be contaminated or something...I dont know why this warning is put into effect, dont know how the water gets contaminated...but if they tell me not to drink the water...I dont drink the water.
Last night after we got home...I took a big, manly chug of milk from the fridge....forgetting that the electricity had been of for at least a day...probably longer...needless to say I covered the kitchen floor with curdled milk. Man, sour milk is GROSS!!!! Im pretty sure i didnt swallow any though....ok, it hits me...the milks bad....most likely everything in the fridge is spoiled....lets find someplace to eat thats open around here.
We had a good 6 or 7 choices..there was an open Burger King with a 3 to4 block line of cars extending down the right lane of a main hiway. CHilis only had meatless salads and deserts left to sell. Applebees JUST closed down because they ran out of food, Outback apparently had some food because the wait line in front would lead you to believe they were giving away free lobster....so we settle for a local mexican joint.....been here before..food and service is acceptable. Like a moron...I order water with my meal!!!! As usual, food was very decent...service was authentically Mexican and friendly...and the water was cold and delicious.
Now..I know better than to order water when in the country of Mexico...but Im only 5 miles from my house...sitting with the family....and having completely forgotten about the water ban from the hurricane. This is a mistake I will never again make in my life....Im not real sure how much longer my life will last with the way feel right now...but if this doesnt kill me...I may never order water thata isnt bottled again. In the last 6 hours Ive gone through enough bathroom tissue to completely remodel Donnies trailer and still have enough left over to wrap his new cart in. Lord help me!!!! Please!!!! It burns!!!!I cant do it anymore!!!

Chris (my DH, not Pete's DW) came running up to me yesterday demanding my camera. My first thought was, "What were the neighbors up to now that we have to document!" Here is what he saw...there were two Sandhill Cranes in the front yard trying to eat my black racer that eats the mice from the lot in back of us. The mice like my garage, probably because it is full of junk! The cranes lost the battle and the snake got to get back in his hole.

We have sandhill cranes here too - I love to see them, because they're endangered!
But, my favorite are the wood storks! They nest behind our house every year. They fly all the way from S. Africa!

WOW!!! I didn't know that about the wood storks! We get them here, too.
For some reason, I never saw sandhill cranes until around 1999-2000. They are beautiful - but can be destructive to homes. They fight with their own reflections in windows and can chip the windows and ruin the screens. That's a minor issue in my book due to the fact they are so lovely.

A south Alabama farmer dies and, being a heathen, goes to Hell. When he gets there it's 95* with 90% humidity, but Satan notices he's kicked back on the brimstone relaxing comfortably.
He asks, 'Why aren't you miserable like everyone else here?' The farmer replies, 'Oh, this is like a warm Spring day in south 'Bama. I like it.'
Angry, Satan turns up the thermostat until it's 100* and 95% humidity. Still, the farmer's happy. 'This is like a good June day on the farm. Not bad at all.'
Furious, Satan turns it up to 105* and 99% humidity. Everyone is even more miserable, except the south Alabama farmer still laying there resting. 'Hey, this is like a good August day on the farm bailing hay. Feels good. The hotter the better.'
In a total rage, Satan turns the thermostat down to minus 25*F. Within seconds, the air becomes chilly and frost appears, soon
followed by solid ice everywhere.
Satan smirks, watching the farmer.
The confused farmer looks down at the frozen ground for a moment, suddenly jumps up, looks around everywhere and begins to laugh...
'AUBURN MUST HAVE WON A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP'!!!

You see Auburn fans can also appreciate this because even when we've had undefeated seasons, we don't get a shot at the Championship.
Also before they had the championship game, the year we were ranked 3rd, we won our bowl game and #1 and #2 lost their bowl game, we were still ranked 3rd, Grrrrrrrrrrrr

That's what the peacocks used to do to the Motorhome wheels at the Fort!! We spent many hours watching and laughing at them!

Disney Vacation 'Know-It-Alls' Can Apply for 2009 Moms Panel Sept. 8-19
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Disney Parks undertakes its search in September for a group of park-savvy parents to be named the 2009 Walt Disney World Moms Panel, following in the footsteps of the first-ever online Walt Disney World Moms Panel which has been fielding and answering thousands of vacation questions in 2008.
The quest is for 16 parents who pride themselves on being Walt Disney World "know-it-alls" and have an undying passion to share their Disney knowledge with others at www.disneyworldmoms.com. From Sept. 8 through Sept. 19, interested applicants can visit www.disneyworldmoms.com/2009 to apply for the panel. The application process begins with a series of questions and three brief essays -- about their family, why they are a great Walt Disney World vacation planner and their favorite Disney vacationing tip.
"The first-ever Disney Moms Panel has responded to more than 9,000 questions from vacation planners this year. They have offered our guests countless tips to plan a magical vacation at our resort," said Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World Resort. "We thank the 2008 panel for their contributions and look forward to working with a new group of parents."
Since the launch of www.disneyworldmoms.com in January 2008, the current 12-person panel has responded to questions covering just about anything from how to sign up for a character dining experience to what items are allowed in the parks.

YES! Papa's got a brand new bag, or rather box. The offer is in on the TT and accepted, now I just got to get the brake controller installed on the truck and get the thing up here. Then decide if it is worth de-winterizing it just to do a weekend, then winterize it again for the season. The folks we bought it from never made it out this summer so they never took the antifreeze out of it.
Now I get to camp in comfort, if I can afford to go anywhere! :3dglasses
