I'm the type to clean before the cleaning person would come.
My wife straightens up hotel rooms before housekeeping shows up!!! She cleans up so someone can come in and clean up!!!! Wimenz iz crazy!!!
I do the same thing! Jim just shakes his head and makes fun of me.:confused3
Can't have someone come in the room with the bed unmade.
OMG, I thought I was the only one like that!!! My dh tells me to have someone come in once a week...but it would be too much work for me to have it all picked up and neat before they got here! :rotfl: j/k
You have all just described me to a "t"! Having a cleaning person just seems like too much work (for me)!

Wine is ok, it's not a beer tho...
In another life, I was in hotel rooms A LOT, and I pity the poor maids that came in our rooms LOL. I even have a few bills to prove their point. :0
One of the worst was in Gainsville, we were there for a car show, and it rained all weekend, and we unpacked and packed in about 2 feet of water, well lets just say that we decided that we could turn the heater on, put our wet shoes on them, go our for a while, and come back to miraculously dry shoes....
So let me recap, old sweaty nasty sneakers, a fan blowing hot air, and a tiny little hotel room in the middle of a fl summer.... Lets put it this way, we moved to a different hotel that night and checked out of them both the next day, and we flipped for who had to go in and get the stuff out of it.....:lmao:

I've had cleaning people here and there over the years, and a good friend of mine has her own cleaning business.
Typically they will dust all surface areas. They should move things around and dust under them too. They'll vacuum/sweep/mop the floors moving light things around (baskets, ottomans, things like that). They clean the outside the appliances, inside the microwave. Sweep cobwebs from ceiling corners.
More thorough ones will also dust ceiling fans, top of kitchen cabinets, top of doorways and windowsills.
Our lady did NOT make beds, clean up kids toys or do laundry. I always had the kids make sure their rooms were picked up that morning.
Other than making sure the kids rooms were picked up...the only other thing I precleaned was the toilets just to make sure they were presentable.
My friend's biggest pet peeves are:
1-people who leave a sink full of dirty dishes. Hard to clean the sink when it's full and she doesn't wash dishes.
2-Nasty toilets
3-people who follow them around and watch them work

I can top ya'll's cleaning up for the housekeeper & making beds in hotel rooms stories.
If my DH ever knew I was sharing this, he'd be mortified....
On our wedding night, DH was constantly getting drinks shoved in his hand at the reception & by the end of the night, well....he was pretty well blotto!! So much so, that he hugged the porcelain throne the entire night. When he did come to bed any movement I made sent him into another puking torrent! Due to his "tummy problem", I finally gave up and went to sleep in one of the other beds.
The resort we had our reception at gave us a 3 room suite for our wedding night, complete with 2 king beds, 2 double beds & 2 murphy beds.
In the morning, DH wanted me to make the bed I slept in so the maid didn't think we had a fight or something equally stupid. Did I make the bed? Oh heck no!! I went thru the suite and messed up ALL the beds!!! I wanted to make my new husband look like a raging stud!!!
The really funny part was (well, it wasn't funny then)...my DBro (whom all of you know as NTSammy5) CALLED us at 7:00am to see if we consummated our wedding!
I lied!:3dglasses

Some folks got together, and got somebody to clean my house for me on Friday. I've NEVER had anybody clean my house for me. While my house is not really dirty, I'm a bit embarrased. There are some corners that have been neglected for awhile. I usually get on a tear every couple of months are really scrub everything, but didn't do it before my surgery. What should I expect?? They said something about the bathrooms, floors, dust, vacuum, and walls?? What are they going to do to the walls?? Are they going to move furniture and stuff??
Do any of you have a house cleaner come in?? Do I need to provide some lunch??
This is all so new to me.
I know this sounds corny, but that to me is one of the most thoughtful gifts anyone can give someone that has been sick. It just really means so much to the person.

That is how it started for me. I was a SAHM with three little kids and a broken ankle. I was in a cast for 6 weeks during the hottest part of the summer. My dh sprung for a once a week cleaning and I was hooked ;)

Around here they used to wait for your return home for your "seranadin" the bride had to ride in a wah tub and the groom on a fence post. They used sirens, pots and pans, chainsaws whatever they could to make some noise. It was best just to come out of your house and take it.

The ballons were actually for the funerals...yeah sounds bizzarre, I know. Really it was nice. My sis in-law and I planned the "celebration of life" party for last night after a long day of funerals. We had two slide shows going, lots of food, and then towards the end of the party we gathered up the kids who carried balloon bouquets to the front yard and had all the guests go out on the front porch. We read "Where do Ballons Go?", wrote messages on white balloons and on the count of 3, let them all go. It was really lovely, poignant and an uplifting end to a very difficult day.

Thank you. You know what the most beautiful thing was though?
Grant, my husbands' Grandfather, had his funeral at 2 pm, yesterday....and it was like something out of a storybook....
I stood right behind the last row of chairs under that tent in the cemetary, watching...observing the service. It was a hot day in that North Carolina July, but just at that moment clouds strolled in and brought with them a gentle breeze, offering us some relief and softening the light. Grant was a veteran, who earned two bronze stars in WW II. The Honor Guard respectfully arrived to send him off with a 21 gun salute. As the guns sounded, the sky thundered back and the wind picked up. The bugle resonated out and clouds grew increasingly, shadowing the sillouheted soldier who stood at the end of the casket and causing the red, white and blue flowers just beyond to appear even brighter as they blew in the wind. Two men methodically folded the flag that once covered the casket until it was a crisp triangle. One kneeled down, presented it to Grants' wife and as she covered her face with one hand and accepted it with the other, the rain poured down.
I can not recall in recent memory ever feeling quite so much emotion as I did in that moment. I also can not begin to express just how wonderful this man was and how much love he had to give. This was a perfect send off, if ever there was one.

Ami-
I'm glad to see you back with us. What an enduring week you and your family had, but it's over now.
All our church funerals are called "A Celebration of the life of .....". Our pastor has this wonderful gift of "positive preaching", giving hope, comfort, etc.
Although I wasn't a member of our church at the time, stories are still told about one particular man's funeral who, when it was time to roll the casket out of the door... the organist started playing "When the Saints Go Marching In". I wish I could have seen that!
Us Lutheran's tend to stand a little too much on tradition and can be rather "stuffy" when it comes to church etiquette <sp>. However....when I go... I want all upbeat music, laughter & a party so everyone can be happy for me, not sad!
If I may recommend a book to you & to share with your MIL & others....

I've been to way too many funerals like that. It's hard not to be moved when the bugle blows. There aren't too many WWII vets left around anymore.

Anyone watching what's been going on with the missing little girl:confused3 ...Caylee, I think her name is. I saw the grandmother on Larry King last night. Is this a wierd situation or what. The mother is in jail..but they haven't actually charged her. The grandmother says that she thinks the child was in the care of a baby sitter..but they won't release any information as to who or what this baby sitter looks like. It's wierd. I gotta tell ya ..I don't think Grandma has all her marbles either. STRANGE family. I hope the little one is okay..but it sure seems there is ALOT more to this story..that we aren't privy to yet.

Our Gov't at work! Yesterday in the House of Representatives...just a few of the bills introduced. Talk about wasted money!!
Two bills passed approving names for two different Post Offices. (Hasn't the USPS been privatized?)
Sen. Richard Durbin [D-IL] introduced S. 3434: A bill to combat organized crime involving the illegal acquisition of retail goods for the purpose of selling those illegally obtained goods through physical and online retail marketplaces. (Do we need a bill to re-inforce that illegal actions are...um...ILLEGAL?)
Sen. Hillary Clinton [D-NY] introduced S. 3444: A bill to provide for upgrading security at civilian nuclear facilities and of nuclear materials that could be used to construct a dirty bomb. (Why not ban all fertilizers that could be used in making bombs and dirtying our water supplies?)
Sen. Gordon Smith [R-OR] introduced S.Res. 643: A resolution calling for greater dialogue between the Dalai Lama and the Government of China regarding rights for the people of Tibet, and for other purposes. (Who the heck cares what the Dalai Lama & China talk about - and what business is it of ours?)
Sen. Maria Cantwell [D-WA] introduced S.Res. 649: A resolution designating September 18, 2008, as "National Attention Deficit Disorder Awareness Day". (Nuff said)
I like this one... but wonder what subversive "pork barrel" legislation is attached to it...
Sen. Hillary Clinton [D-NY] introduced S. 3419: A bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to modernize the disability benefits claims processing system of the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of compensation to veterans and their families and survivors, and for other purposes.
The rich will get richer...
Sen. Robert Menéndez [D-NJ] introduced S. 3446: A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to defer the tax on the gain on the sale of certain telecommunications and media businesses, and for other purposes.
For more of your tax $$$$'s being wasted, go to:

Then we wouldn't eat.
Nitrogen fertilizers are easily converted into bombs. A lot of nitrogen fertilizer is required to grow corn and a lot of our food. It's also used to grow the feed corn to 'finish' the cows before they are turned into the hamburgers we all love.
AND a lot of fertilizers are made from hydrocarbons, the same as the fuel we burn in cars.
Thus endeth the completely, totally and throughly useless fact for today.

I have a friend with a son. They're Jewish, but were not exactly practicing. Well, my friend got married and her new husband adopted her son, but wanted all customs in place. That poor boy was 5 years old! Oh my goodness! His cries about his wee-wee were just so sad! I think he messed with it some because it took such a long time to heal! That is certainly one good thing about having the procedure done at 1 or younger......they leave it alone!

Ive always found it amazing the way certain personalities assume that they are the subject of others conversations. Why would someone assume that the world has nothing better to talk about than them? Is it paranoia? Is it pride? Is it self-grandeurism(my made up word)?
Im a paranoid person by nature...and often feel that people are only nice to me when Im present, but when Im not around...I certainly dont feel that Im the main topic of their conversation. Im pretty sure I'm not important enough for people to babble on and on about when Im not around...Im simply not that interesting or threatening. But, Ive noticed that some people on this planet actually think everything that anyone says is in some twisted way connected to them. Like everyone is speaking in code. I may say "The weathers nice today.", and certain people would think that in some derranged way...that was some sort of an inside joke about them!!!! It would never cross their mind that I only ment that the weathers actually nice!!

I'm away a few days and there are pages to catch up on..and I don't understand half of what you guys are talking about.
That's what I get for going on vacation. We are having a GREAT time. The weather is just so nice. We love the beach(we're in Fl. Anna Maria Island..recommended by Deb..of course!:thumbsup2 )
The gulf is like a bath tub. Water is beautiful and blue. It is very relaxing and the resort is perfect. I do miss the hubby though. ..My kids made fun of me today because every thing we do, the first thing I say is how much "dad" would love this or that. He's holding down the fort back in NY...dealing with work (which isn't worth the aggravation anymore..but another post all together) Just remember..DON"T WORK WITH FAMILY...EVER!:sad2:
Other than that I'm glad I came. It's nice to see my kids getting along so well, and having fun together. Not a lot of moms can say that. Given they are 17,21, and 27! I look at them and can't believe they are these young adults..where are my "little ones"..LOL! They still enjoy one another's company, and they are away from boyfriends, and girlfriends..just the three of them. It's good to see they still enjoy one another's company. My boys are going jet skining tomorrow. I think we all needed this. It's hard not to relax and take things down a notch in a place like this.
Oh well, just checking in and seeing how all my disboards pals are doing. Hope you are all well.
Glad to see your feeling better Carol. Glad you're back Ami...sorry to hear about your father-inlaw.

Phyllis- I'm so glad you enjoy Anna Maria!! I'm am by no means a beach person, but there is something about that place that is hypnotic!! Have you baked yourself into a good tan yet? Or burn - like I do? Have you experienced the Cafe on the Beach or Rotten Ralphs?
I have to admit when I saw T.S. Edourd forming, I hoped it wouldn't have any effect on your trip. (Sorry Texan's) Although it is very cool to see a storm hit the beach. I understand you've had quite a bit of afternoon rains this week - but that can be fun to watch with a nice glass of chardonnay or kungaloosh!:thumbsup2
There were quite a few "heated" discussions this past week - which most of us participated in and you would have enjoyed. One person got offended by the banter and said he was leaving the board. IMHO - we're all like a bunch of bratty brothers and sisters and don't take each other too seriously. One did take offense and left - too bad.
I'm anxiously awaiting September when we can finally share some Kungaloosh or other such adult beverage!!

I LOVE otters!! I hope the otter habitat at the zoo is adequate for them, and the habitats for the other critters as well. That's what I love about A.K. - they try to make the habitats as natural as possible.
IIRC - the Toronto Zoo was the first in North America to do that. When I was a kid I loved the Buffalo Zoo. Then when I went back there in about 1979 as an adult, I was horrified to see the little pens the animals were cooped up in. Al tells me all that has changed now - thank goodness.
I hope your family had a great day at the zoo!! Post some pictures, please!

Hey Carol, how are you doing? I haven't been around much to check on the walking wounded! :lmao:
Doing pretty well. The doc gave me the OK to start walking, so I've been hitting the walking trail for approximately a mile to mile & 1/2 a day. Hopefully I'll get up to the full walking trail (8 miles RT) by the time I go back to work.
I'm needing to nap less and less, but I'm really trying to do "exactly" what the doc says. Don't want to wear myself out too soon, but don't want to have no stamina when I start back to work either.

You are one amazing woman, Carol! I'm so glad to hear you're recovering nicely. WAY TO GO!! <pumping fist in air>! Too bad about having to go back to work, though! It's a shame that we were born smart & beautiful instead of rich! Keep up the good work, girl!

I just got off the phone with Al. He's still in NC with the grandsons & enjoying every minute of it! His DD, Allison, is doing very well. Al said she was all dressed and ready to go when her husband got home from work. She announced to her DH when he walked in the door, "Let's go!" Jeremy asked, "Where?" Allison said, "Anywhere! I'm ready!" So...Al & his DW are babysitting (like they mind that!)!!
I spoke with the two older boys & when I asked them "what's new" - neither one said anything about their new brother - but I heard all about their new playstation game! How typical! I love kids!
If I could be anywhere I wanted to be right now, it would be in NC with the new baby & the rest of the family.

We think that he was trying to steal our beer cooler.
I'm surprised he didn't try and lure you away from the cooler so the other otter could rush in and steal it! :lmao:

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Rhonda and/or Scott.
Carol, I am glad you are getting around now! I have to go back to work on Wednesday, can't pick up a thing, but have to go back to work!:headache: I made the BIG mistake of sleeping in the normal bed last night...2 percosets later I was numb enough to get out of bed and get through the day today. Needless to say, back on the couch I go...ARGH!
I hope you are getting your legs in shape for DL and DW!:thumbsup2

Jen- I must have missed another "questionable" thread! DARN!!!
I take it that your surgery must not have been done with a laperoscope (or however you spell it). I'm sorry to hear that you're not fully back to your feisty self. Take it easy on yourself and let your body heal! Only rest will accomplish that! Is school back in session for you next week or are you preparing for opening day? Polk County kids start on 8/18. I'm sure there will be a ton of happy parents that day!!:rotfl:
On another note - my DH had his pain management procedure done Wednesday. Rather than surgically removing the adhesions in his back, they are trying to dissolve them chemically. Don't ask me what the drug or chemical is that does that. They knocked him out, inserted a tiny tube into the adhesion & emptied an IV bag full of drugs into him. The whole procedure took about 20 minutes including being knocked out & coming to.
Anyhow - we tramped all over the MK today, and he did not have any problems whatsoever, and no numbness in his leg. He has one more treatment on 8/20 & then he should be done.
He also went for a job interview on Thursday to work as a salesman for a local Funeral Home!! They seemed to be very interested and impressed with him. One thing for certain, the funeral business is one that the economy can't impact too much. If he accepts the job and if they truly want him, it would be a Monday - Friday basically 8-5 job. That means we can start going back to FtW once a month like we used to do. Lordy, I miss my monthly stays at The Fort! We haven't camped there since January. Ugh!!!

OH, you missed it alright. However, that is something I know you would have wanted to miss. Yuk! I am ok, except when I go to sleep or bend all the way down, that is the worst part. Back to the couch I go!:thumbsup2
I hope DH gets the job! He has to have better luck than here lately!;) You need more Fort time anyway! We have three prep days (CJ starts PreK regular the same day as I go prep day) and start the same as your kiddies up there.

I didn't realize it either!! Ouch!!! I only had three tiny incisions in my belly, only 1 of them you can barely still see. That's probably why I'm doing so well.
We happen to own our own personal ECV, (it was my grandmother's and my parents gave it to us for Rick's bad knees providing we give it back if either of them need it), so I'll be taking it to DL to use as needed and we'll be sharing it at WDW.

Back from the lake, the highlight of our trip was seeing an otter running along the edge. We figure he was distracting us from the beer stash. :rotfl:
