We are looking at buying DVC...YEAH!! and hoping to use it for our Dec trip....but now all I see are waitlists for our time in Dec...
Any chance Disney has a few spots set aside for new contracts? Dont really care where we buy or where we stay. :confused3

Not likely. Your statement about not caring where you buy is the same as saying that you will never care where you stay.

When I say that, I am saying we LOVE Disney. We love all the resorts and would be happy to call any of them home and would love to visit others! We just love being there and are excited to be a part. I dont think there is anything wrong with us not having strong feelings about which resort is our favorite! We really appreciate them all and are just happy to become a part of DVC

maybe - BIG maybe - depends upon when they start to open Kidani at AKV.
if in 2009 when there plan says forget it.
but they are really going to town building this thing. won't be surprised if part of it opened this year.
that say MS won't make a reservation until the building is open.

December was booked solid months ago. Your chances of getting anything are very slim. Disney doesn't hold back any inventory for new owners.

When you folks talk about Dec availability issues, are you talking about the first two weeks and from Christmas until New Years, or does the 15th-23rd get full as well?

This is not an attack, this is a piece of advice from someone who has learned the hard way. Each resort has it's pluses and minuses. At first we didn't care where we stayed other than a deluxe or a villa. We bought BCV and love the resort. It has a lot of pluses but soon the DW says, I wish BCV had a better water view, why is the building stuck in the back with no lake view? OK we buy BWV, great board walk water view. Next was VWL, we had stayed at WL several times over the years and love the feel of the resort, MK is just a boat ride away. See the pattern here?
If we are hanging out at EPCOT or DHS we stay at BCV or BWV. MK we stay at VWL and AK, AKL. That covers all of the parks and it give us the 11 month booking advantage at our favorite resorts. At 7 months it's really a crap shoot on availability.

If you are buying direct from DVC, tell your guide you want to buy but only if you can use your points for a stay this December. If it is possible, the guide will make it work to get the sale. We did this when we bought at BWV in 2005 and wanted to stay 6 months later at our home resort during F&W. -- Suzanne

Last January the best rooms were taken. Last month, the rest were picked over. There may be cancellations, but you have to be lucky.

From Food & Wine Festival to after the marathon in January, it can be tough to find something available at any of the resorts the further you get past 7 months out.
Make sure you are buying where you won't mind staying if you can't get anything else. Make that reservation at 11 months and then see if you can change at 7 months. And if you can't change, you'll still have your favorite resort.

Looks like we can maybe get SSR for the second half of our trip...Thinking about buying SSR and then the contemporary when it becomes available later...whenever that is.
Do DVC members get first dibs on the new resorts??

We did for AKV. Later they offered everyone else a better deal. It's OK though because we got our name on the Founders Tapestry. :thumbsup2

I don't remember the details but I think it was additional developer points.

Bummer; I missed out on that ... If I had to do it again, I think I'd still opt for the Tapestry though. ;)
