Okay I'm getting really excited now!

You can assign calanniebu and I to bring whatever as far as food goes - we'll be driving down Friday and can stop along the way to get anything. Connecticut is chock full of Stop and Shops.

Since Linda is getting there a day early, maybe she could call one of us (or will you have internet access?) after she sees the room and let us know what would be easy/helpful to bring for extra chairs/tables, etc. I have a few little TV tray type tables if needed.

I would love to look at other people's albums! That would definitely be a fun thing.

Brilliant - someone pm me your phone number! (I duno if I want to pay 10$ a day for internet access - this place sounds like Disney - charge for this - charge for that!)

What do you want for Albums? Disney, CJ's, or our recent 6 week tour of the east coast?

If everyone wants to exchange phone numbers, you can PM me and I'll compile a master list and send it back to everyone if you want to save with the back and forth.

Personally, I'd love to see your book for the driving tour of the East, because that kind of road trip is a "someday" goal of mine. But anything is good!

My albums tend to require fork lifts to lift. I'll have to figure out what is easily transportable. ;)

you have my cell number right? PMing you anyway.

We have the list for who is eating with us, we can add what you want to bring to that. so tell me what you want for food.

I do have your #, but thanks for sending it. It'll be easier to have them all in my PM box.

Yes, we need to decide on what to eat. I suggested grinders, LTM suggested getting wings delivered. Both work for me, don't mind. If we order the wings they will be brought to us. That is appealing.

I'll go with the majority.

LindaBabe, I work in the next town over from Hartford, should you want a visitor when you first arrive. I could come over for lunch or something.

Actually, this got me thinking, maybe next to our names of who is attending, we put when we are arriving to try to hook up with one another. I will be there Thursday night, still not sure about when arriving Friday. Most likely noonish, and staying the night.

LindaBabe

Arriving Wednesday night, before dark, to keep from having to get up at
0'dark:30 to make the 9 am start of the album class. Staying at Marriott through Sunday morning.

I don't know if we get a lunch break, Thursday, but love to have you come over any time you're ready to brave the traffic.

My preference of the two is Grinders first and wings 2nd, just because the latter are messy, but I too, will go with the group. I"m bringing a cooler, paper goods and snacks. Can't WAIT to meet y'all!

I think I've read all the planning msgs now. I think I'm the only one who doesn't know any other Disers, but I'm am looking forward to changing that!

I've pm both NEE and Lisa with my cell #.

I will be arriving on Friday around 10am. I will leave sometime on Friday night. No rush on that.

Grinders sounds good to me. Can I bring something that doesn't need to be kept cold? Maybe chips or paper products?

Are we going to bring scrapbooks to look at during dinner? I saw that mentioned but wasn't sure if that was a go.

Only a couple of weeks now!

I'd go but my class gets out later than yours and I would think you'd want to leave right after class to avoid as much traffic as you can.

Okay, I am getting the sign ups for food going:

Lisa - jumbo grinder to feed the group, makings for Konk Koolers
Ryan - dessert
Jennifer: wings
Linda Babe - paper products, paper plates, plastic ware, cups, napkins, snacks.
VacationKicks - chips
BAMB - water and eclairs
NEE - wet wipes, cups and soda/iced tea, Italian cookies

We still need:

dessert
libations of choice
Potato, pasta, or green salad
perhaps cheese and crackers

VacationKicks - chips and plastic ware (do you mind?)

We still need:

wet wipes for wings

I already got the plastic ware in hand too, as well as a table cloth, plates, cups and napkins, roll of paper towels. - does that throw your plan totally off?

As for going with you to collect the grinders - I'd love to but I have a class from 6-7:30. Maybe I'd better hand off my contributions to whatever room is hosting - y'all aren't going to want to wait til 7:30 to eat . . . unless the supper is in my room, in which case you won't have any choice, will you?;)

VKicks, I don't actually *know* any other DISers either - I just go along as if I do, because I'll know 'em eventually, KWIM?

calanniebu
09-21-2008, 12:59 AM
I can also bring some veggies (carrots/celery) and dip. Might be good to have with the wings!

LindaBabe
09-21-2008, 02:14 AM
LOVE Veggies and dip! (Goes right along with the eclairs, don't you think?:rotfl2: ) You've got me thinking more about food and less about scrapping!

Now, I need to start thinking about doing the homework for that all day class. There's a lot of it - the list calls for about twenty photos, all different sizes. But what do the pages look like? Someone suggested to cut paper to the sizes and do the photos later - made sense to me.

OK, so I'll bring a couple bags of chips since Lindababe has got the plastic ware already. Is there anything else I can bring?

Also, Lisa if you are still looking for someone to take the drive to get the grinder with you, I am available after scheming around ends at 4:10.

I would do the paper. How do you know what pics would look best? I'm forever changing my mind on that one.

Lisa, DH will be in NYC on Thursday so I have to wait for mom to come home before I can leave for the class. I hope we don't cut it too close from the Park and ride, what do you think? She gets home around 6:15.

Lisa
09-22-2008, 05:12 AM
It might be cutting it close, but we should be okay. If you left your house at 6:15 pm, you should be at the park and ride by 6:30 pm, getting us to Htfd by 6:50. We can do the HOV lane.

 Do you want to drop the kids off to my house, then DH can bring them back to Mom? That could be arranged too. Let me know.

Will update the food listing later.

It's NEXT WEEK! I'm SO excited!

It took me the better part of two hours to measure out and cut paper to use as place holders for the Thursday Album class. Not a single standard print among them! I foresee a large number of photoshop hours, after this is all over.:scared:

Is anyone staying for the Saturday night crop? If not, I might cancel my last night's reservation and drive on home after my last class on Saturday. What d'ya think?

BernardandMissBianca

pm in your box! LESS than a week now! I'm SO excited

Yesterday, I printed labels and labeled all my tools (even the ones I'm *not* bringing), printed more labels for use filling out drawing forms, packed my tool bag and then had to unpack it again to make 8 cards from a kit.:dance3:

Lisa
09-25-2008, 10:28 AM
Linda Babe, that is an excellent idea, printing out labels for drawing forms. Did you do your address and phone number?

I am going to get my tools kit together Saturday at BAMBs crop. I am only bringing exactly what they list for general supplies and my individual class.

I noticed you are attending the teacher's gift class. If they by chance have an extra kit, could you grab it for me. That looked interesting to me when I looked at the class list yesterday.

I will be arriving about 12:30 Friday afternoon, to check this out and find my class. VacationKicks, thanks for the offer to go with me to get the grinder but I tasked it over to BAMB on her way into HTFD later in the afternoon. She will be going right by the place, she is going to be a doll and pick it up. I just need to remember to give her money for it.:rotfl2:

Thanks for the reminder on the labels! Every year I kick myself that I didn't remember to do that. Adding that to my to-do list.

LindaBabe
09-25-2008, 02:25 PM
Thank you for fronting the money for the food, Lisa!

Sure if there's an extra kit, I'll get it for you. You can probably have mine, too, if you have more than one kid - mine are WAY past the age for teacher gifts.

Name, address and cell phone number on the ones for the drawings. Name and cell # on the tools.

Looked at my schedule again, so I guess I AM going to the Saturday night crop. I will NOT want to drive home at 4 pm. Planning to work on my Christmas cookbook pages, and fortunately I had gathered all the stuff into a box before we went on our trip - just to clear the decks, so to speak. And, the tools and stuff I'll use will be the same ones as for classes, so covered there. Today I had some more photos printed for it.

We talked about bringing a couple albums to show off - are we going with that?

BernardandMissBianca
09-25-2008, 03:57 PM
I'm bringing a few of my books.

Feeling more composed tonight - had a major meltdown last evening - now i am ready to ask - what are you bringing for tools - what's with your name tags LindaBabe? ...and the paper cut-outs? Sorry- i have been out of this preparation loop, but thinking positively, I want to be prepared, and meet all of you wonderful, supportive ladies. Night. Caroline

Lisa
09-25-2008, 07:22 PM
Caroline, there is a list of basic supplies that is recommended to bring, let me post it for you.

Bring basic supplies to class
Come to class prepared with your essential, basic supplies to help you complete in-class projects:

· Favorite pair of straight-edge, micro-tip scissors
· Personal 12" x 12" paper trimmer
· Favorite adhesives, both wet and dry
· Black archival journaling pen
· Paper piercer and mat
· Stapler
· Regular hole punch
· Black and brown distressing ink
· Corner rounder
· Rub-on tool

Each class has suggestions for additional tools if required beyond the basics. You and I are in the first class together, you can use anything I have. If anyone forgets anything, I am sure a 411 can be issued and answered.

For one of the classes, several (more than 15) pictures cute to specific sizes are requested. I decided to cut white paper in the sizes given rather than decide what pictures to use, order or print the photos, then crop them.

LindaBabe came up with the great idea of making labels to put on any drawings cards rather than fill each one out by hand. Just slap a label on each card and move along.

Sorry you had a meltdown. You've been through a lot this past week

LindaBabe
09-25-2008, 07:46 PM
Not my idea - I forget where it came from i - we've been using the address labels for years at home shows, etc. Of course THEN you get an avalanche of junk mail for decades after. And the labeling of the tools came from the email I got from CK with suggestions. Did y'all get another one of those today, along with the coupons?

You can have all the meltdowns you need, . Any classes we share, you can use my stuff, too.

Speaking of stuff. I sure hope they have bell services at this hotel! Did you know they make oreos candy? The snackage aisle is right next to the photo place in my local Walgreens.:rolleyes1

So this morning, as I sit surrounded by tools, supplies, lists, piles of clothes and open suitcases. my husband says to me "are you excited about going to your scrapbook thing?" Ya THINK?

Packed my drybox this morning - I don't plan on being dependent on hotel food or convention snack stands. Coffee maker, filters, remember coffee, plates, cups, napkins, tablecloth, forks and knives, peanut butter, bridge mix, nuts, tuna packets, s & p, remember sharp knife and bagels . Must freeze my milk bottles for ice in the cooler. Wish we drank more milk around here, I could use the empty half gallons. Can't pack the cooler until Wednesday just before leaving. Must make a list . . . Am I rambling?

Lisa
09-26-2008, 11:49 AM
Linda, if I could leave for it now, I would. :thumbsup2

I have gone thru all the classes to see if there are any more I wish to do. I have gotten some of my supplies together. Waiting until after tomorrow's crop to get the rest together. Thinking about what to pack.

Worried that I will forget something, but at least I know the area, or I can run home should I need to.

Off to see the schedule another time to see who is taking what class. :woohoo:

Lisa

Caroline and Linda, you are taking the Disney Board class Friday? Hmmm, when you get there, can you see if there is space available and call me Friday am? I can zip over.

The Disney Board book class *was* listed as full, but I'll check the bulletin board for cancellations, too.

 Lovingtm, we'll be with you in spirit. Hang tough, girl.

Buffy & Lisa, what are you doing for supper on Thursday? Going home or you wanna meet in the coffee shop? I have a 2.5 hour break -

Wish I had a crop to go to this weekend. DH is making me crazy! He doesn't have any current projects and it's grey and raining out so he can't go out in the yard. I told him if he kept it up he was GETTING A JOB!

If your microwave starts making a LOUD buzzing sound, don't bother to call the repairman. It's fried and you need a new one. That was today's crisis.:headache:

It's also the weekend of my workshop. :( I'll be able to do evening classes on Thursday or even day or evening classes on Friday, but won't be able to do any Saturday events.

LindaBabe
09-27-2008, 02:00 PM
What's your workshop, Lisa?

I think I will choose this one over SDV because it's closer, therefore driveable and less expensive, easier to take tools, etc. And in Hartford, I'll have to concentrate on scrapping and not be tempted by the nearness of the "magic".

It appears that on Saturday, CK'll be collecting cards with blank insides to send to the troops for them to send. This morning, I made 8 new cards from a kit, and then went through my stash and picked out all the ones I'll never use, matched them with envelopes and packed 'em up to travel. I SO need an all day card class.

Lisa

I hold a scrapbook workshop the second Saturday of every month. :)

I hold a scrapbook workshop the second Saturday of every month. :)

So, I could do CK on Friday, your workshop on Saturday? That sounds about right! I didn't know you were a pro!

There's actually a class on Wednesday night at a place called inspiration station that sounds like fun - but it's half hour from Hartford, and I mistrust my ability to find my way back in the dark.

Figured out how the people staying at the 'official' hotel will get to the conference center - there's a shuttle that does a circle route of downtown, every 20 minutes. The Marriott will be way more convenient though.

Did you Saturday night croppers get anything accomplished?

So, I could do CK on Friday, your workshop on Saturday? That sounds about right!

Now there is an idea!!!

Inspiration Station is out in the boonies. Pretty far off the highway. What time is your last class Saturday? I am wondering if I could show you how to get there.

LindaBabe
09-28-2008, 07:45 AM
Yeah, that's what I figured from the google map, lol.

Thanks for the offer, Lisa! Unfortunately, I get out at 3:50 on Saturday, but I have a supper date with a non-scrapping friend from another Disney board.

Linda- Inspiration Station is awesome!!! It is located in a town I taught in 30 yrs ago. I would love to guide you there, but will be staying with my mom right after my Sat class so my 2 sisters and their DHs can go to their class reunion.
Gee, I even got to scrap last night- my grandson has a book report due tomorrow, his teacher offered about 25options, and one was a scrapbook. Ok, who could pass that one up? He is 10 and knows how to use my Cricut, so he got it all done.
I am looking forward to seeing you all this weekend - thanks for all your continuing support - it is much appreciated and NEEDED. Caroline

Well, scratch the supper date - we decided to do breakfast instead. But I have this crazy idea that we may be sick of scrap talk by Saturday evening! lol

Glad you had someone to 'scrap' with - it gave you something fun to think about :goodvibes

Now you all have me really looking forward to this weekend! I have been trying to locate the list of bring-along tools - can't find it quickly enough - can someone please direct me once again?
Any other supplies you'd like me to bring along - foods etc????

Lisa

Lovingthemouse,

The basics you need to bring are:

Bring basic supplies to class
Come to class prepared with your essential, basic supplies to help you complete in-class projects:

· Favorite pair of straight-edge, micro-tip scissors
· Personal 12" x 12" paper trimmer
· Favorite adhesives, both wet and dry
· Black archival journaling pen
· Paper piercer and mat
· Stapler
· Regular hole punch
· Black and brown distressing ink
· Corner rounder
· Rub-on tool

If you are up to bringing cider, that's fine. Otherwise, just bring yourself. :goodvibes

Melissa, we are getting together in our rooms for a pot luck dinner of sorts. I am getting a giant grinder, others are bringing desserts, chips and dips, etc. PM me your cell phone number, I can call you Friday with the location.

I wouldn't be surprised you are shorter. It's those Kinicki genes. ;)

Donuts, apple fritters, apple pie, apples and cheese, whatevah! Seriously, don't knock yourself out. We are going to have plenty of food. Probably enough leftovers for breakfast too!

All packed but the cooler, and luggage staged in the diningroom. Now, i'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to be time to go.

Where did I get so much luggage for a 4 day trip? :scared1:

action packer (dry snacks and table supplies, coffee pot),
Large suitcase (crop project, tool tote, shopping tote, papertakers, teddy bear clothes),
Small suitcase (clothes),
Roll-on dufflebag (computer, camera gear, teddy bear),
Scrapbook tote (scrapbooks to share) and
Cooler (food and water).

Can you Imagine how much luggage I'll need for a month in Florida?

ARGH!!! I just went online to print my classes and supply list and discovered that they have the wrong first name attached to my profile! Obviously I registered under my correct name, and all my initial emails from them came with my correct name, but sometime in the past month or so they've decided that I should not be Suzanne, but instead be DEBI. In all capital letters just like that. How ridiculous is this? I've emailed them but I don't expect a response - they're very lousy with that - but I just hope I don't have a problem getting my ticket packet - I know they check ID. I'll print out all my initial emails with the correct name and the correct confirmation number, etc, but what a headache! And that means all my tickets will have the wrong name on them. If I win a prize, I'll just have to remember to answer to DEBI!

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad to hear it wasnt just me! I did get a reply to my email - I was surprised! They said they were trying to figure out what happened with the first names, but in lieu of a name, we would be asked to verify our email address when we picked up our packet.

You know, there are a lot of things I love about these conventions but this is the 3rd year I've been going and I have seen so many disasters about registration, computer issues, etc. over those years. How hard is it to just hire a decent IT person? For such a huge company, they make so many lousy mistakes when it comes to computers.

My families Friday has gone berzerk, both girls have soccer practice, one then has a 5-6th grade social. My son is marching in the band during half time at the HS football game. His first half time since last week was rained out.
And my parents decided to drive up on Friday instead of Sat., as we had previously planned. Although that means tomorrow I need to clean and get ready for the convention, at least they can help my DH shuttle the 3 kids where they need to be! I'm glad I signed up for the convention in the summer, if I saw our schedules now I never would have. But, I'm really looking forward to it.

I started gathering my stuff today but I do have some questions for everyone. One thing I don't own is a paper piercer and mat? Is that something to make small holes like for brads? (I've never used brads in my scrapbooks.) Also, what do we need the stapler for, do you think I can leave that home. I could borrow my daughter's mini stapler. Would that work?

I bought my chips today! So I'm ready for dinner at least. Is the plan that we are going to call each other? If so, what time are we thinking?

I'll be driving up Fri. 10am, only one more day!

If you have any push pins or thumb tacks at home, you can use that as a paper piercer and save yourself a few bucks.

Hi, VK. I will be leaving work around 11:00 am. You'll be going right by my exit on Route 2 (8). We have the same class around in the afternoon. I'll call you when I get there.

Buffy will be picking up the grinder on her way in so we don't need to worry about going back out Friday afternoon. But thanks for offering to ride shotgun.

I echo the others on using a pushpin for a paper piercer and bringing the mini stapler although you may not use it. Also, if there are tools you don't have you can usually borrow one from a tablemate.

OMG yesterday was SO much fun. I took the all day album class and had an absolute BLAST. The teacher was Mikaela and so funny. (New grandma but still has an eye for a hottie, lol) We got TONS of product, as we should have, for that price. Album, full pack of Basic Grey, 20 sheets of Bazzil for backgrounds, about 20 more to cut up. 4-5 packs of buttons, bag of ribbons and brads, even a needle for sewing. glue pen, dot runner, two tim holtz ink thingys.

Meeting the Lisa and Buffy was so fun - it was good thing that vacation class was simple because we spent more time chatting and laughing than paying attention. I am NOT an agile stapler - finally managed to staple sucessfully and then discoverd I had stapled pages together:confused3

BRING water and snacks! Can't say it enough. you can laugh all you want - you'll be glad you did!

I AM officially dead! Echoing Lisa, if a CKC comes near you - GO! and take money. LOTs of money, especially if you don't have an LSS.

ALL the DIS girls are just so much fun - it was hard to tear myself away from the room party. My experience was definitely enhanced by their presence!!! THank you, Ladies, for your many kindnesses!!! (Jennifer, you were missed and you missed a GREAT time.)

That being said, I would go alone again in a heartbeat if I couldn't find anyone else willing to go. Who knew having fun was so exhausting. There's a crop tonight, but I don't know if I can drag myself and my bag over to the convention center again.

Making the decision to go was such a positive one. I truly had a wonderful time!!:flower3:
From the moment we checked in, Laurie and I found so much to do, and we could not have had better company. My Mickey book will get completed, in my time frame! The instructor was wonderful but way more fast paced than my hand and eye coordination could fathom. BTW, who were those giggling ladies in the front row?? LindaBabe, it was a good thing that Lisa had some water as you entered that class.
Just wanted to send along special thanks to NEE, CalannieBU, VacationKicks, LindaBabe, Buffy, Lisa, Eileen and my BFFLaurie for creating such a great atmosphere, extending their friendships and laughter to me, and making me feel so wonderful to be there. My DH would have been proud to see me having such a fun experience through all my sadness!! You all are the best!!! Promise to get that picture posted this evening!
Now, what story weren't we supposed to share?? Guess it stayed in Hartford! :rotfl2:
