Doesnt that just suck. My mom bought the dog for me and DH for our first anniversary. He is 15 now and to old to really treat. He has a tumor in his mouth. I know this isnt the place for this post but I had to tell someone. He is kind of my last link to my mom she passed away 10 years ago. It has me sorta sad today knowing he will probably not make it very much longer. I need a hug. LOL.

 Of course you need a hug! Our doggies are part of our families and knowing that this one helps you feel closer to your mother makes it even harder!
I'm so sorry! Thankfully, you have had 15 great years. I'm sure that he knows that you love him ... but just in case he doesn't, give him a nice big hug back :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog... they are like family. If anything happened to my dog, I would be absolutely distraught...
Give your dog a hug from me... :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. It is terrible to see a beloved dog get sick especially because all they can do is look at you with sad eyes. I lost my Quincy last year and it is very difficult. But I also have 17 years of fond memories which makes it a little easier when I am sad.

A big hug for you and him.
My childhood dog died of cancer and I know there is nothing that can be said to help ease the pain. I was in high school and made myself sick enough to stay home and take care of him because he was my protector I needed to take care of him. Many years and several pets later he has that spot in my heart.

I got my dog, Sandy, when I was 11. She was a collie mix. She was dying of heart failure when I was 25. I had to put her down. And outside the vet, I couldnt even drive the car away. I remember telling her over and over again that she had been a good friend. Man, I loved my dog. Im sorry it hurts for you now..

sorry to hear about your dog, what is the breed? I had an adopted Greyhound who ended up with intestinal cancer when she was 7. My mom paid a lot for surgery and things didn't look good at first but she managed to live another 5 years.

My little doggie is a long haired chihuahua that is black and white with blue eyes. He is such a little peanut (6 pounds). I love him dearly. He has a tumor in his mouth and the vet said it is most likely in his lymph nodes and will spread. If he stops eating I have to put him down. It is breaking my heart. Thanks guys this is making me feel a bit better. I will miss him so much when he goes.:(

Gosh, I am so sorry. I do not know what we will do when we have to face this (our dog is 13 and was our 'first child'). As I have heard from many people on a Beagle list I am part of, he will let you know when he has had enough.
In the mean time, cherish the time you have together.

I currently have a 5yo short haired chi...She is such a little sh*t, I always had 2 dogs growing up so I have had many family dogs with different personalities and she is by far the most possessive, protective, nippy and yet somehow loving dog I have had. She is also black and white but she has brown eyes.
I hope you enjoy whatever time you have left with him and if he's anything like mine he is probably sleeping on your lap right now so give him a hug.

All my love and prayers for you - and a great big HUG.
My little baby, Pepita, is going to be 17 this July. She is the light of my life and truly my daughter, soul mate and best friend. She is a chihuahua-terrier mix. I have had her for 7 years, rescued her from the pound. In reality, she rescued me.
I don't know what to say. Enjoy the times you have left. You will always be together in your heart. He knows that you love him. Give him a nice scratch, belly rug and kiss from all of us.

I know how you feel Feb 2005 My Cassie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the Dr. said she had days to live, and that we should put her to sleep well I could not do that. Brought her home and started praying for her and feeding her just Green beans..Well it's 2008 she has had a long last few days she is still going strong. The Dr. does not understand why she is still here he will jsy shake his head when she goes in for checkup he really does not understand he along with three Dr. were in the room when he found the Mass the size of and orange and still to this day says she is a miracle. Don't give up give him as much TLC that you can, I will pray you guys.

Sooo sorry to hear about your dog's diagnosis. Our pets are very much a part of us too. Four years ago we rescued an English Bull Dog and for the last 2 years he has been through some rough times and we almost lost him. Lots of      for you and your dog.

 So sorry to hear. I lost several dogs in my life and it really like losing a member of the family.
The dog I lost after my father died sounds like the same situation you are in. He was my dad's dog and a big part of my dad, so it was kind of like losing my dad over again.
I now have a family of my own and my little dog is with us for 5 and half years and when I lose him, I know it will be very hard for me. He truly is a big part of my life.
Take one day at a time and take time to breath and go through the grieving process.
They give us so much love and ask for little in return. One day hopefully, we will meet them at the Rainbow Bridge.

So sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to you.
I lost my last dog within two weeks of diagnosis for bladder cancer. She showed no symptoms previously. She was 7 years old. She was my Rock, my "healthy dog" .....being that my other dog (who died 7 months before her) had liver disease and lived for 4 years (under strict treatment).
I thought that she would have been with me forever (healthy as she seemed):sad1:

How sad, I know just how you feel its horrible like someone tore your heart out. I was in disney last Nov when I found out my Ginger who I had for 15years was doing very poorly at home I instructed my girls try to hold on to her till I got home which they did sadly the next day I had to put her down. This was truly the worst thing I have ever had to do I think of her all the time. So whatever memories and pictures you have will hold dear to your heart. I also had her cremated so she could still be with us. Lucky my daughter bought a little maltese about two years before this so now I have her to love

Thanks Jen that is so nice of you. I go to Dr Beste in Middletown. He has been wonderful. He gave me his cell number in case I have major problems. I know this might sound crazy but he put Emmitt on antibiotics and the tumor is like 1/4 of the size it was on Monday. I just dont want the dog choking on it that would be awlful. Now he seems to be getting back to himself. I am just so nervous to have to explain to Ethan that the dog died. He just lost his grandmom on Friday now his dog. It has not been a good couple of weeks around here.

You and Emmitt are in good hands with Dr Beste.
Luckily your occupation allows you to have more insight on what to say to Ethan when the time comes. You might want to start talking to Ethan now about what is happening to prepare him. It will make it easier for him and you.
Keep in touch!

So sorry! My cat had cancer too. Just want to also say that when the time comes, you can euthanize at home. Most people don't know this. If your vet doesn't make house calls, call around. I had both my dog, who was in heart failure, and my cat euthanized at home. (About 5 years apart.) I think it makes a huge difference to them. We did it in our livingroom on their beds. They couldn't have been more comfortable. It'll also be much better for you as well. I know it's hard to think about right now.
