View Full Version : Gay Days: What should we expect?

After completing out itinerary, we remembered that the first week of June sees the main parks holding various 'Gay Days'. I read somewhere that thousands of people flock to these events, so my question is:
has anyone here experienced what it's like to be in the parks during these times?
Personally, I couldn't care less about people's sexuality (although I think ANY type of overt sexuality should be kept away from Disney parks).
We're actually more concerned about whether or not the parks tend to be uncomfortably full on these days. :)

Totally agree with above :), we've never encountered any problems either and we've been at this time on 3 occasions :thumbsup2

As long as you avoid the designated parks, I don't think you'll find it too busy. Here's (http://www.gaydays.com/calendar/) the full schedule.

We've been there at that time of year before don't worry, it's not a problem it's just a little busier. Everyone was very friendly and well mannered and you'll still see family groups and children there too. Use the link UKDEB posted to find out what the plans are and work around them if you want to.

It does sound as if it won't really affect us.
Our only visit that coincides with a Gay Day, appears to be Epcot on the 8th of June. We won't therefore change dates because we've already booked a PS at the San Angel Inn. (For 11:30am, so that we can sit in our favourite lunch place by the riverside). :)
Thanks for the advice.

We only encountered this once, in '96. MK was very busy and hot, with some rides clocking up 2.5 - 3 hour waits.
The guests seemed to be very friendly and everyone seemed to be OK about them. The guy in the villa next us turned up in a Man. Utd. shirt and went back to change it almost immediately:rotfl:
The park filled up quite early and there was no way that we would get back in if we went back for a rest in the afternoon, which was disappointing as we'd saved our last day on the ticket for the last full day of our trip.
Disney did not advertise the fact that the park would be geared up for a day like this and we were quite surprised at the amount people there.
One thing we did notice though, a lot of lightbulbs were being changed in the restrooms that day, in fact I think they must all have been changed about 5 or 6 times each.

I understand that, it's just that if we'd known that MK would be rammed on the Saturday, we could have altered our plans accordingly.
Life is sooooooo much easier now that the www is here to help.

i was there last year at same time did not find park much busier if any. Im not against these days, but i had red shirt on and felt uncomfortable :scared1: (mainly due to DW saying "look he's smiling at you", which she found highly ammusing :rotfl2: ) as luck would have it i had other coloured top in car. But is fine for families as we had DS with us.

I get the impression that some people think that if you are gay then you must be some sort of predator, i have been there on these days and enjoyed them very much.

I saw a news item on thiese days on the O'Reilly Factor about 3 years ago, which contained quite distusbing footage of lewd and sexualy explicit behaviour. It didnt look very pleasant, certainly not family friendly thats for sure. That said, the footage that was shown, from what I remember, was shot at night time, and was I think mostly from the clubs area at Pleasure Island.
Ive seen discussions on these days since then over the last couple of years, and people have said its been no problem atall. Maybe the bad publicity encouraged a bit of toning down.

Gay Days aren't official events.
reason why there not offical is it would be classed as discriminatory ,disney dont offer white ,black , male ,fat people or female days
You will find a high persentage of disney CM`s are gay
They rent the waterparks out for some evenings and a park for an evening,so it might afect you by an early closing on that day
