Found these guys a couple of days ago and noticed that their mom had disappeared. They were running after us desperate for attention and food. Thought I would share some pictures.

As soon as they start to eat seeds we are going to take them further into the woods.

Glad that you helped these little guys out! Just one warning- we rescued a baby squirrel last month and it had fleas :( :faint: I was so upset! My daughter and I both got flea bites ALL over! And I had soooo much cleaning to do!!! I hope that you guys don't have this problem, I think you should be fine, it looks like they are outside. I think it was just my bad luck!

MomtoEmIs&Ow Thanks for the flea:scared1: warning. That would be awful. They are outside. We have a box with a blanket in it and I just go to them to give them milk. I did take them on a field trip last night to my DD brownie meeting. It was by far the best show and tell of the year.

Oh they're so cute! My mom has adopted the squirrel family that has a nest in her back yard. They come up on the deck and get treats from her! It's a momma squirrel and several babies. Good luck with your new little family!

:sad1: Well we have lost two of our babies overnight:sad1: and 1 is not looking so good. I did read on line that this is what usually happens with baby squirrels. On the positive side.... One is eating very well and looks to be in very good shape. I'll keep everyone posted.:sad1:

When we started the whole thing I made sure to tell them that the chances where slim that they would make it. I guess I did a good job preparing them because they took it better than I though.

I'd be a wreck. I commend you for your efforts and at least they little ones knew somebody cared for them.

I showed this thread to my DD9 the other day and she was of course bowled over by their cuteness, and by your generosity in caring for them. I told her yesterday that they didn't make it, and this time it was my turn to be bowled over. She said, "I wish we would have found them. Even knowing that they would have died, I would have wanted to take care of them and make them happier for a few days."
Kids are resilient, and understand and accept things sometimes easier than we can. Glad your kids took it well.

I'm sorry to hear that they passed away. Last year we had a sweety of a baby but we put a bed that was ment for small animals in his cage and he chewed a hole in it and suffercated. It was so sad because he was almost ready to go live outside:( We made our own milk and these odd protine balls they worked like a charm. The thing with them being babies is that if you feed a dehydrated one(even milk) they will die:(

I had no idea of that when we started. I found out from another web site but it was already too late. If I ever have the opportunity to help baby animals again I will start with a trip to the local vets office first.:goodvibes
