We have a last minute resort change and now will be staying on-site for part of our stay so we are considering adding on the Dining Plan. I know it is not too late to add it on but is it too late to get the priority seatings of our choice? We want a few character meals (but not the really hard to get ones) and don't mind eating later lunches/dinners but would hate to add on the dining plan and then not be able to eat where we wanted. Is it better to add the priority seatings of choice to make sure we can get them, then add on the dining plan or should we add the dining plan and then cancel it (if it is cancellable) if we are unable to get what we want?

Just go ahead and book your reservations and THEN add DDP. That's exactly what I did. (Going 7/27-8/2).
As long as you are flexible with times and locations, I am sure you can get some top choices. As long as you don't have a party of, say, 15!! And some people will cancel ressies when they're final payments are due 45 days before their trip, so keep checking back if you have your heart set on a particular restaurant.
And of course lunch ADR's are always easier to get than dinner.

I have just been able to add 1900 Park Faire (breakfast) without trouble for 5 in early August. I had my choice of times. I've also added Kona (breakfast), the Wave (breakfast), and Chefs de France (lunch) without trouble, and we have 5, so that's often more challenging than smaller groups. This is all within the last week. I expect dinner will be harder for you, but my point is there are times for TS out there.

I say, "Do it!!" We are going at the beginning of July and I just changed some of my ADR's (Princess Breakfast in Akershus and Playhouse Disney Meal) a few days ago with absolutely no problems! And they weren't weird times either. I've been amazed at how easy it's been to attain and change ADR's this year! I know better than to be hopeful that it won't be as crowded, but a girl can dream, can't she?? :cloud9:

I had no idea how important it was to make reservs at Disney. I booked my trip only a month in advance and didn't even try to do my reservs for another week after that! I still managed to get:
Spirit of Aloha
Crystal Palace bkft w/ Pooh
Libery Tree
Tony's Town Square
Ohana Bkft w/ Lilo and Stitch
Coral Reef
San Angel Inn
Pricess Storybook Bkfst at Akershus
Brown Derby
Play and Dine at Hollywood and Vine Bkfst
Wave
I couldn't get 1900 Park or Chef Mickey.

We are going mid July and for several reasons have had to change some of our dining ressies several times. I have been really surprised to have no problems getting exactly what we wanted every time. Even today, I had no trouble getting Chef Mickeys, 1900 Park Fare, and WCC (all for dinner) and Ohanas for breakfast. I got exactly the times we wanted too.:cool1: I say make the call, you might be surprised too.

I just reserved for late July two days ago. I was able to get the Princess Storybook Breakfast, Coral Reef dinner, Boma dinner, and Grand Floridian Cafe dinner. Coral Reef is at 4:30 which is pretty early but we don't mind. I was really worried I wouldn't get anything, but these were all my first choices on my first choice days. Just try it. Good luck!

I do recommend getting ressies as soon as possible, just so you have peace of mind. However, we just got back from WDW on Memorial Day. The whole week 5/19-5/25 we had dinner ressies, at some of the popular places...they were all taking walk-ins, and had empty tables while we were there (even Le Cellier, Royal Table & Cali Grille.) So either people are cancelling or just not showing up for ressies 'cause these were supposedly all fully booked for the nights we were there. We thought park attendance was down, also and there appeared to be a lot of empty rooms at resorts too, judging from the huge number of empty parking places at hotels.

Just went through the same thing and changed around our whole trip for our dining. We are going July 26-Aug 2 and just Friday I redid alot of our TS and added some on and got exactly what we wanted within 15 minutes and we did some sig and character meals. So go for it. Most of the end of July is fixing to hit the 45 day mark as we are so if cancellations are gonna happen it will happen soon too

I have been having a really hard time for the last week of Aug - of course this is the first week of free dining so I guess that should be expected! I think as long as you are flexible on your days and times (I really haven't been) then you should be just fine.
Have fun!!
