SHhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Friend works at DVC in sales and she said that the Contemp models are built and look awesome! They are at SSR and are ready to show whenever the go ahead is given. She has seen them herself and says they top any DVC rooms yet!

The only reason I do not believe this , is the statement of topping any DVC room to date . DVC will never build another resort with rooms the size of OKW hence no DVC will ever have rooms better than ever. DVC realizes they can get more bang for the buck with smaller rooms.
No room can ever top an OKW 1BR or 2BR.

I think he may mean decor wise they top anything DVC has built. I looked at the AKV models and they are definately a "cut above" BCV/VWL/SSR etc.

No room can ever top an OKW 1BR or 2BR.We walked through the Grand Californian models on Monday. DH and I both thought the GC's 1BR unit was far superior to those we've stayed in at BWV and AKV Jambo house: larger, open kitchen w/ free-standing workstatation, 6-seat kitchen table, twin-bed murphy built into the entertainment hutch, 2nd bathroom w/ shower, etc. Overall, it felt much larger ... but perhaps it was based on a "better use of space."
The studio layout follows that of BWV (hotel-like) -- which we prefer over OKW's and VB's triangular layout. Better flow, less cramped.

Right. The decor and quality of the inside is what I was referring to. A step up from AKL, which I woul consider the "nicest" of DVC rooms.

We've stayed at the Dolphin/Swan, and the one thing that they have above DVC is the "Heavenly Bed". Any chance improved bed/bedding was part of the upgrade?

We prefer the triangular feel of the OKW/VB studios----feels much more spacious to us. But we will see if we can check out the model this Aug. Are they open to the public to tour ? Oh....does anyone know if the 1 bedrooms will sleep 5 like AKV ?

Unless they lease more space there is no room there for them to have two sets of models.

When we took the VGC model tour on Sunday, the CM said that the rooms would have the "high and comfy" beds like the hotel side. And I'm not a fan of any hotel bed be it deluxe or not, but those beds were wonderful.
I would guess that any Contemp DVC rooms would have similar adjustments made like the VGC rooms, like sleeping 5/9 people and the kitchen setup.
It will interesting to see whether the murphy bed will be the extra bed or if the chair bed will remain.

FYI: If it is open to me I will do all that I possibly can to get over there, take a million pictures, rush back to my 1 bedroom at BWV and post them for all of you!!!

We will be there in July. If we here that those models are open, we will definitely check them out.
Oh and we think that the AKV decor is tremendous. One of the many great things about DVC is that as each resort is added, it is different from the rest. That gives us tons of choice as to where we buy and stay.

Please educate the rest of us to what merits the deluxe standard for bedding.

If the BLT model is nicer, and the best of all previous DVC units, I am betting that DVC is upping the quality, and design of the new units. I saw the VGC model last weekend, and saw for myself how much better the unit looks. I think the BLT, and VGC are the new standard for DVC.

I stayed at the Hyatt Metro Center in Washington DC, which had the best bed I've ever slept on in any hotel or DVC. Darn thing was better than mine at home.
Personally I think the DVC beds are a cut above most, the bed linens could be improved(Marriot timeshares are better).

remember back when AKV model first opened - some Disers got in the other area and found other models that looked like the CR.
now I would think that DVC has changed these models somewhat - make them newer and better.
but they are probably in the same place.

I have personally seen the Models at the Grand Californian. They are superior in setup and decor over other DVC properties (IMO) They are bigger than SSR and a little smaller than OKW. However the amenities are superior. I have also seen the floorplans for the Contemporary Villas, and the floor plan is very similar the what will be at the Grand. It looks like this new floor plan may be it for the next few properties. (I would say they are almost identical)
Years ago it was rumored that they dvc was opening at the floridian and very selective property with conceirge service throughout my guess is the contemporay is this project. Why are people so exicited about this. Doesn;t it just drive the cost up?
spiceycat
05-29-2008, 05:05 PM
so far the only dvc resort to offer conceirge is the AKV. and that is because the dvc units are in the concierge section.
why excited about a dvc resort near the CR - will there is thing call the monrail..... love it!!!
you can walk from the CR to the MK (you can't from the GF).
those are 2 of the top things. (my opinion)
yes it will drive the price up - but every year the DVC price has increases - not matter what.
that say not expecting CR to be alot more than AKV and SSR. when it first opens for sales expecting the same price. It is only after the two months when they allow ONLY members to buy - that there is a price increase.
or that is how it was done.
with CR (BLT) DVC members can walk to Epcot, Studios and MK!!!!
since the MK is a favorite park of millions - well it will sell out fast.
besides it was the first WDW resort.

I believe the murphy bed in the VGC replaces the "pullout chair" as the bedding for 5th-person in a 1BR. Their will still be pullout sofas.

Slightly off topic question. I'm new to DVC - when a new property becomes available for sale to current owners what type of minimum points purchase do they require?
I'm thinking of adding on for BLT but I'm a single and don't need a ton of points.

I don't have a kid, but I have a DH who is REALLY good at asking for forgiveness LATER, did try to go through that mystery door last summer and he does know how to use a digital camera. However, he's an engineer, so you might get a lot of pics of the lights, the flat screen TV and if we're lucky, the kitchen. But we won't be in WDW until August.

Well, I can't comment on the amount of noise the monorail makes inside the Contemporay rooms ... only stayed there when I was about 12 and didn't pay much attention to things like that :) !
However, as to possible dates for BLT ... I was speaking with my guide yesterday about adding on some points. We currently live in Nebraska and that is one of two states that they are not registered in so it might take a bit of hoop-jumping to make it happen through the mail. We were talking about some possible options, since we are military and have residency in another state but it will probably be easier to just wait until we visit WDW this year, even though I don't want to take up valuable vacation time conducting business! :rotfl2:
He then mentioned that they were "days away from selling out SSR so don't count on having any of those if we wait" but had plenty of AKV points. I told him that we didn't really care which resort we bought since we were only talking 50 or 100 points, all I really cared about was getting our same use year. He then paused and said, "Well, when it gets a little bit hotter I might have something else to offer you ... when are you thinking of heading to WDW?" I told him end of June and he just paused and then said, "Watch your mail and call me in a week or so ..."
So, nothing "official" , but I did want to add my belief that the Contemporary DVC is right aroud the corner! :cool1:

The only reason I do not believe this , is the statement of topping any DVC room to date . DVC will never build another resort with rooms the size of OKW hence no DVC will ever have rooms better than ever. DVC realizes they can get more bang for the buck with smaller rooms.
No room can ever top an OKW 1BR or 2BR.

yea the original plans had 2 pools one include the C - shaped like Mickey mouse head - the other outside the C - in the area between it and the south wing.
this is not a little pool - or it wasn't then.
all DVC resorts have their own pools - VWL and BWV do too, OKW and SSR have several pools.

who say anything about need.
it is definitely WANT IT!:rotfl:
a dvc resort on the monrail.
the monrail use to make noise - but they now have white noise. You don't really heard it unless you go someplace immediately.
in the wing, okay BLT, it is far enough away not to be bothered. at least I don't think so - it wasn't a problem in the south wing. but they are connecting BLT to CR - so some noise may come with that - but not enough to get that far.
believe me after walking thru CR - we will be very, very happy to go to BLT.

i am a very light sleeper, we had a MK tower room on 7th floor (as i recall); it's more of a vibration than a noise. A wonderful way to wake up in the am, followed by Chef Ms coming to life:goodvibes
i predict sales will commence anytime during the span of our vacation 6/24-7/3; and be sold out prior to our return:rolleyes1 it would never happen that fast...would it:eek:

Just wanted to add that DH talked to our guide a few hours ago and she mentioned that the guides have all been told to put in their vacation time for the summer now, because it's going to be VERY busy there this summer, so she thinks it's because they're releasing BLT. WOO HOO!

I am wondering when the rumors get real heavy how many people will look to sell current contracts in order to buy in:scratchin
I am not interested in buying into BLT but wouldnt mind scooping up some smaller point BCV contracts that come available.

can't see selling BCV for BLT. love them both. but BCV is really popular.
considering you will be paying more for BLT - would have to really hate BCV to sell it for this.

Since I am single and go in mostly in value season, I'd probably sell off some of my current points if I decided to buy into BLT. I'd like to have the 11 month option there.

This is OUR dilemma. While we think Kidani will be awesome and love AKV, we DO want to sell our pts. there if BLT is announced. That said, we're not sure if it would be best to sell it now or wait until a BLT announcement. The question is, when would we get a better price for it. Just don't know what to do............

Bay Lake Towers is the Name de jour of the big building next to CR under construction. You may know it as the rumored CRV or that "place that must not be named";)

Why not buy more? ;) We had been going back and forth on how many points to buy at AKV (we just bought in) and we decided to buy the minimum, even though we're looking at having 300+ points, eventually. The theory is that we get 160 at AKV, buy 160 when BLT opens. If BLT never comes, we can always add-on to AKV.
I would assume that isn't an option for some (or most), but if it's possible, then you'd have more vacation points, and multiple homes!

a dvc resort on the monrail.

We heard rumors that a second DVC resort at DLR would also be the second monorail DVC resort. I think that rumor supports the BLT as a DVC resort.

BLT became the new rumored name last week sometime.
I think the Orlando Sentinel, (but could have been a DISSER) found some paperwork that specifically mentioned a timeshare resort next to the Contemporary Resort that would be named Bay Lake Tower.
Hopefully somebody will give us some more precise info here. That was straight from memory of what I read here on the DIS.

This is the same thing I'm worried about! We are at WDW right now and went to a DVC presentation on Sunday. There are lots of incentives to buy into SSR & several times I heard that it's suppose to sell out this month. I think - though no one ever actually said it, of course - that they are waiting for SSR to sell out to release BLT. DH and I didn't buy in because we're taking our chances on getting in at BLT. We decided that the first day it's available, we're calling to get a contract on it. I just hope it's not a mistake to wait since I guess it's possible it could sell out to members only. We even tossed around the idea of buying at SSR and adding on at BLT, but there's no way we can do that right now. I guess we'll just hope for the best!

I really doubt it will sell out to existing members. It is a medium sized resort, and there will be a LOT of points.

Totally agree. Even if the only release 200 units to DVC it will be hard to sell out in a month with the state of the economy. Most of the Tax Relief checks have come and gone.

I visited the kiosk at Adventurland in mid April. The two guides there became heated when I said I was waiting for the DVC Contemporary before buying. One of them became a little argumentative and hostile. They were trying to deny it was happening, which was hard to do considering the building was more than half framed. Then the older guide tried to scare me with future price increases. I countered with how important I think the 11 month window will be at the Contemporary.
The older guide never gave up trying to sell me SSR points. he really seemed desperate. I was embarrassed for him and politely said good bye.

To sell out the average current member would have to buy about 25 points or 20% would have to buy 125 points. I do not really think that is likely.

I hear alot of DVC owners getting pumped up about BLT and saying they want to buy a "small contract" into it. My question--how many points are you buying? Adding on 100 points to your existing contracts seems reasonable, but what will 100 points (or any smaller amount) really get you at BLT? A studio midweek, assuming you are buying into the resort for the 11 month booking window? If you do not have enough points to book a vacation at the 11 month window what is the point is buying into a new resort unless you are staying for a short time. Just curious, as I own ALL my 650 points in OKW and book at the 7 month window if staying elsewhere.

Really want to do an add on when BLT comes available (hold the T for me) but how does that work if you have two different home resorts? New DVC owner anyway, and I never really thought I would ever have two contracts to worry about. But if I want to book at BLT at the 11 month window and need 75 points when I only have 50 can't they just pull that other 25 points from my SSR contract? Or would I have to book what I can with my 50 points and then wait for the 7 month window to book the rest with my SSR points? How does that work?:worried:

BLT sales to start July 1st, 2008
Exisiting DVC Owners to get mailed notice of sales 1 week earlier.
SSR has Waiting Lists for all UYs except December.
AKV Phase I almost completely sold out.
AKV Phase II June UY sold out.
Treehouse villas are currently part of SSR's holdings.
Big Secrets what's happening with THVs. Maybe stop-gap sales until BLT sales (thus BLT after July 1, or more likely, after BLT sells out in expected 6-9 months!!!
California already considering expansion options. -Studios only at Paradise Pier???
CM DVC Discount will be disappearing entirely within the next 12 months.
Training has not yet begun to sell BLT, and they HATE the name too.
DC expects BLT to be 100% DVC (Unlike gblast123 & my mixed use beliefs)
Do not expect major incentives, certainly no developer points as we current know(and hate) them!
No price-per-point or points-per-night chart available yet!

From what the leaked Maximum Allocation chart for KTV (now BLT) shows 100 points may get you just as much as you will get with SSR!
I know it seems far fetched, but DVC has to file this Maximum Allocation thing to give an average of what they suspect a single night will cost if every night was the same price. Heres the chart:http://dvcnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=352&Itemid=96 What it shows is that studios have a 16 point average which puts it below VWL, BCV AND BWV and above OKW and AKV. So this may mean that there will be "value" rooms facing the CR not MK. I could so deal with an 11 point Value room that looks at a wall.
All of the other categories are more than any other resort.

Which name, Kindom Towers or Bay Lake Towers? BLT to me is a sandwich. Naming them after electronic equipment or cars isn't much better, but here are the obvious names to me:
Contemporary Resort Towers (CRT)
Contemporary Resort Villas (CRV)
Villas at the Contemporary Resort (VCR)
and one more:
Towers at the Contemporary Resort (TCR)

There is speculation that disney may demolish the other end of the CR so CRV would only cover one building. BLT will allow you to name the other building some thing else besides CRV2.

enough for a studio sun-thurs (leaving on fri) during Oct-Dec - so MVMCP and MNSSHP...
that is all I want.
hopefully less than 100 - more like 60 (VWL, BCV, BWV) to 70 points - hoping!

With banking and/or borrowing, a small contract (100 points) can be used as
