View Full Version : DDP and Annual Pass?

This is from mousesavers website:
Discounted Annual Passholder Packages with Dining are now being offered for stays 5/26/08-8/2/08. There is a room discount, but the Dining Plans are priced at the regular rate. These bookings are subject to regular Walt Disney Travel Company package rules.
So has anyone confirmed that you can actually still get the dining plan if you have an AP? How much is the discount on the room?

WDTC sells ticketless packages for AP-ers. And that includes options for DDP, DxDDP, Dine with Wine, etc, just as with other packages.
AP-ers can even book these packages through AAA.

They started allowing APs to do the plan without paying for tickets around the beginning of 2008. Great ai'nt it!

I won't get the plan even without tickets, or with my DVC reservations - I'm much happier without it.
Yes, you can book a room/dining package if you are an AP holder. The packages, full price or discounted, are subject to availability. Payment and cancellation rules for packages apply.

Wow, I must have been under a rock!! I didn't hear about this. It will work for me this August as I am staying 6 nights at DVC resort on dining and would like to have the additional 3 nights at Pop on the DP as well.

Up until this year to qualify for the dining plan you had to purchase a "package"....that is a hotel room and at least a one day MYW ticket for each person. And that was even if you already had an AP. Meaning that if you had an AP you were now stuck with a 1 day ticket that you didn't really need, but paid quite a sum for....and all so that you could have their dining plan.
Starting this year, AP holders do NOT have to purchase the package to get dining....so now you can just get the hotel room and dining. Saves quite a pretty penny, but I don't think everyone knows about it yet.
EDITED: TDC NALA is correct, the AP hotel/dining is a "package" and therefore subject to the rules about packages. I guess I should have worded things better, thanks TDC Nala! I'd hate for someone to book this package and not realize those rules applied, so I'm putting this note here with my original post in case they miss the TDC Nala's post.

Technically, AP holders do have to purchase a package. The difference is that WDW has now made available a room/dining package for AP holders. Before this year, DDP was available only with a room/tickets package.
The AP package is still a package, and is subject to the same time limits and deposit and cancellation policies as other packages.

Correct, the dining plans are part of a WDTC package. So even if it is an AP package that does not include park passes, it is still a WDTC package. (Excluding DVC members buying DDP sans package.)

I know that, I was wondering what the op's actual question was?

Well...OP wrote this question: So has anyone confirmed that you can actually still get the dining plan if you have an AP? How much is the discount on the room?
I guess many of us took it that OP didn't realize that this was available and was asking for confirmation that mousesavers information was correct. Hopefully we've assured OP that it is correct.
No one has answered the "how much is the discount" part yet, and of course that varies so much it would be hard to answer. But, it's pretty much the same room discounts that APers have gotten in past, just now you can add on the dining without having to pay for tickets. Since a single day ticket for an adult is $71, not having to buy one of these for everyone in your room is a big money saver.

Thanks Aribelle for clarifying that to mbanks21. If he or she would have actually read OP, then they would have seen my question.
Anyway, that is exactly the reason I posted this topic. I had NO idea at all prior to reading this on Mousesavers that this was possible to do. I cannot believe I didn't hear about this before as I am on the boards every day LOL. I am happy because I bought an AP this year for first time and have split stay at DVC/Pop and thought I could only get DDP during my DVC stay. I am very pleased to hear I will be able to have it during my stay at non- DVC resort.

What about the "free" dining? Can AP holders get that deal?

Like everyone else. But not with a ticketless package.

In other words, the free dining promotion is available only with room/tickets packages. Even AP holders must buy tickets to get it.

OK, my question is "I already have my room booked, I havent ordered my AP's yet, still saving $$$. When I get my AP's can I call Disney and ask them to add the DDP to my AP's and get a AP room discount?" This is our first time getting AP's    and maybe using DDP... So confused...:confused3
Any help would be greatly appreciated....

You don't need the AP to get the dining plan. You have to stay at a Disney resort, but you don't have to have the AP. So....you can add the DDP now if you want.
If you meant the DDE (Disney Dining Experience) which gives you 20% off at select restaurants, then that you need an AP (or to be a Florida resident). That doesn't get added to your reservation however. To purchase the DDE just take your AP and $60 to any guest services location.
As for AP discounts.....it's not like AAA where if you have the membership you get an automatic discount on nearly any room (some exceptions always, but you know what I mean). AP discounts are out right now for rooms through sometime in August I think. If you're going before then, call and ask if there are AP discount rooms available....not all rooms will be available.....it's like a pool, they have 500 AP rooms (example only, we'll never know the real number avaiable). If they have any of those 500 at the hotel you want, for the dates you want, and the room you want, then they'll apply the AP discount.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE AP before you book an AP rate. You DO have to have the AP (or voucher) upon check in. So if you know you're going to buy the AP when you arrive, then go ahead and book an AP rate now if it's avaialble. Since they have limited number of rooms for AP rates you want to get it applied to your reservations as soon as it's available. Then buy your AP before you check in and you're fine. If you don't have your AP at check in (or your AAA card if that was your discount), then they'll change your rate to "rack rate". If you have a voucher (i.e. you bought it from Disney Store or online) some people have said that the hotel requires you to come back and show them your activated AP and they'll put the rate back down....some let it go on the voucher.

PP is correct. You can call Disney now and as long as they have AP rooms available for the time youre coming you can add the dining plan. Just be sure that when you check in you have your AP in hand.

You can just not the free dining. In the past you had to purchase some type of tickets to the park with AP

You can book the room without the AP. If you get a CM that says you cannot, like I did the first time around, just call back. We went to get our APs prior to check in and weren't even asked to see them. The only reason I can think of is like most everything Disney they're tied into your home phone number and the front desk knew we had the APs.

Thank you everyone for your help. I think I am understanding. How much does it cost for the DDP per person/per day? I will need it for one adult and two children...
Thanks again,

The basic dining plan costs $37.99 per night of your stay for guests age 10 and over and $9.99 per night for guests age 3-9.

OK, one last question on this....I read this on this website under AP perks:
Availability of the Disney Dining Plan add-on is limited and cannot be combined with any other discounts (AAA, Bounceback, etc.) It can be applied to a AP discounted room as well as one that's rack rate.
Does this mean that I MUST get an AP room? I currently have 4 nights added to a DVC stay with a AAA discount rate. What is no more AP rate rooms are available?

Um yeah to get an AP discount you have to have an AP room. You cant apply an AP discount to an already discounted DVC room.

That was not my question. I am not trying to get a discount on DVC room. I am staying 6 nights on my DVC points and then 4 nights cash at Pop. I would like to add DDP to my Pop stay. I have an AP. Currently Pop room is booked through Disney with AAA discount. My question is if there are no AP discounted rooms available for my dates, then am I unable to do the DDP?

Then that is correct. YOu can still get the DDP with the AP just not with the discounted rate. Make sure you ask for code CSS- thats the discounted AP rate plus dining

Related to all these AP and DDP questions, I cannot find anyone that can answer the following. If I buy one Annual Pass, used in order to get an AP discount on a room reservation, I know I can add the DDP to that. But, what if I have three other people going, that will need tickets, but not Annual Passes and I need them on the DDP as well. Basically, I need one AP and then 3 multi-day park hoppers, all on the DDP. Possible with only one room reservation (the AP discounted one)?
Thanks in advance...everyone in my party doesn't need an AP, I'm just getting one to take advantage of the room discount. Or would I be better off doing the DDE card, which I question the value of after the changes earlier this year.

You need only one adult AP at check-in to book the AP/dining package. You would need to purchase tickets for the other party members separately. You can't buy tickets as part of the AP/dining package.

So, do I understand that to mean that I would be able to have four people on the Dining Plan with just the one AP and 3 multi-day park hoppers?

Yes. Use the AP to purchase a room/dining package. (You don't need to have the AP in hand when you book the package, but you do need it when you check in). Then purchase three multi-day park hoppers separately for the rest of the party (you just won't be able to include the hoppers on your AP package).
