View Full Version : Request for postcards - April 2002

TnRobin
04-02-2002, 01:34 PM
or those of you wanting to know what the deal is, here is a brief description.

In a recent issue of Disney Insider distributed to Castaway Club Members (past DCL cruisers), the readers were given postcards to give to potential first-time cruisers. When the first time cruisers mailed in these cards, they would receive a video and a $50 shipboard credit on thier first cruise. This thread is a place for 1st time cruisers to let Castaway Club members know they would like to receive a post card. There are no guarentees and no rules on first come first served. This is just a place for you to post your request.

Good Luck to all.

Just wanted to post to tell everyone that I called DVC to ask about the $50.00 on board credit to first time cruisers. The man on the phone was not aware of this but after checking and came back he told me that because this was my first time on the cruise, and because I was in a catagory 11 stateroom, I would receive it. It is nice cause I booked to staterooms so he said that the coupon would be in both staterooms when we arrived.

Thank you so much for making me aware of this credit. I would have never known about it.

To Kupiecb - What is the $50 on board credit from DVC that you received? IS this the same thing as a postcard? I'm travelling on 4/21 on a 4 day Wonder booked on DVC points. Could this als apply to me? Thanks.

I didnt know anything about the 50.00 on board credit until I read it on this board. I called DVC and inquired about it. The only thing I know is that I will be getting it cause it is the first cruise and because I am staying in an 11 stateroom. I am not sure what catagory staterooms this applies to but it would hurt calling and finding out about it. Keep in mind that the man the I spoke with at DVC didnt know anything about it, he checked with someone else there, and they applied it to my reservation. He said that the 50.00 credit would be in my room when I arrive, so we will see.

I have 4 post cards available for you guys. I will respond to the 1st 4 people that e-mail me. I can be reached at erick.miller@us.nestle.com

There is one sentence on the post card that you should know about. It states: "Must be applied at time of booking".

I am assuming that if you already have your cruise booked, you can't use this card, so please, only e-mail me if you have not booked your cruise yet. Good luck. Eric

I have been reading all of these new posts to this thread and I have yet to see anyone offer any postcards. My questions are ....

Are these postcards real or are they a gimic? If they are real then how do they work? Hopefully someone out there can answer my questions. Thanks again for the reply.

I spoke with Tammy at DreamsUnlimited who said that the post cards can be used, but not in addition to your club card onboard credit. One or the other. So they must be real! A nice person from this board emailed me and offered me a post card and it is on it's way. I have since learned about not being able to use both, so I used my club card. When the post card arrives, I'll be happy to send it to someone else.

I didn't have a postcard. I just said I'd heard about the onboard discount. The DCL rep. did keep me on hold for a while, so maybe she was checking with a supervisor.

I don't know if this makes a diff., but we paid the DCL published rate for our cruise, so we didn't have any other discount.

Maybe this has already been answered in an earlier post, but I didn't scroll thru all 3 pages....I am making sure- this is an on board credit- right?? So we can buy things on the ship with it- does the Disney Club card give you the same discount too??? Or does it actually take MONEY off the cost of the cruise?? Thanks

I just got the postcard in the mail today (from Vicki...thanks!!!) I called Disney Cruise Lines immediately and had no problem having the credit applied for my 3/23/2003 Disney Wonder cruise. Actually, now that I reflect, they never even asked me about the card or the code. I am going to keep the postcard with my cruise documents though just in case I need to show it onboard (if they forget to give me the credit as I have heard happen). Anyone else out there who is interested in the "first-time Disney Cruise" onboard credit should just call and ask for it!!!! You may be pleasantly surprised! If it doesn't work the first time, call again. It seems to be up to the discretion of whoever answers the phone ;)

I read, on another thread, that if you are a first time cruiser all you need to do is call Disney and request it. Many of the replies indicated that they had to speak with a couple of different people before they were able to talk with someone that knew about the $50.00 credit. I call my travel agent and had her make the call.
she called me back, a few days later, and told me she was able to get me the credit. You might try this also. Good luck!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :earsboy: :earsgirl:

Thanks to the person who sent me a postcard - I'm sorry but I forgot your name! :o

I was able to successfully add the $50 shipboard credit to my 2/22/03 Magic booking, but it took a few calls. A bit of advice to other people trying to add this credit, especially with a TA other than Disney: Don't give up! When I first called my TA (Costco), they finally concluded that the code REF was not applicable to 2003 cruises.

But when I called Disney, the phone rep confirmed that the code is definitely good through the end of 2003 - but he would not be able to change my booking, as I had used a different TA! Argh! Finally, when I called Costco again and reached a different agent, having the knowledge that the code was good for my cruise, he was able to call Disney and add the credit! :D

Another note - I didn't receive any guidance from my TA about what to do with the postcard. The rep from Disney told me that my TA or I should send it in, but wouldn't Disney have told that to the TA as well? I guess at this point, I'm planning to hold onto the postcard, and see what happens. Did anyone else actually have to send in the card, or present it in any way - or did the REF code alone take care of it?

Thanks again for the great advice about the cards - I wouldn't have known about it without the DIS boards!

April

Bonnie Voyager
05-17-2002, 03:50 AM
...they didn't even ask me for the code. I just told the Disney Rep that I wanted the "first time cruiser discount" and they said....."okay". I am taking my postcard on the cruise with me just to be sure I have it if I need it, but I sure don't think I will mail it in....then I will have nothing to confirm that I had the card to begin with! I too had to talk to several reps before I found one who had a clue about the discount. The first time I called, the rep said it was not good for cruises in 2003, so I just called again a couple of days later and voila! I think I've got the discount....they said I do anyway ;-)

Donald1
05-17-2002, 06:38 AM
Ok, here is the scoop:

I was interested in a postcard off of these discussion boards recieved one. I had my fiance call in and the card was left at home at the time the call was made. This was directly thru the cruise lines. No number is needed, and the original card is not needed, just make sure that they know about the 1st time cruise discount. We have our $50 for the June 23rd to the 27th Wonder.

It does say that it is only valid thru December of 2002.
Hope this answers any questions.

05-17-2002, 06:15 PM
Well, as I posted on this thread. Before I left on my cruise I read that a 50.00 credit would be issued to first time cruisers. So I called DVC, cause that is where I booked my cruise and inquired about it. The man on the phone did check with someone and came back and said that he would issue the 50.00 credit. Because I booked two rooms, there would be a 50.00 credit to book rooms, I said great.
However, when I was on the cruise, we only received $25.00 credit to each room. I was a little upset, but did not want to go through a big production at guest services. The cruise was wonderful and we had a great time, and if I had not read about the credit on this board, I would have received nothing so I looked at it as I was lucky to get the $25.00. If anyone is booking 2 rooms, just clarify if each room would recieve the $50.00, or will it be split between both rooms. My father was staying in the other room and the credit was issued on his card, and my credit on mine.

AprilN
05-17-2002, 06:32 PM
Some people have reported, both earlier in this thread and on another thread, that they only received $25 credit on a 3 or 4-day cruise, or $50 for the 7-day cruise. Of course, neither the postcard nor Disney is explicit about this (definitely misleading at best), but it sounds like $25 is probably all anyone should expect on the Wonder cruises.

If you took the 7-day cruise, however, maybe you were shortchanged. :(

April

05-17-2002, 06:51 PM
AprilN,
You are could be right. We only did take the 3 day. Maybe that is why we only received $25.00. But when I called he did not tell me that. I asked about the $50.00 and that is what he said would be waiting for us in the room when we checked in.
But once again, I am happy that I received the $25.00.

After 3 phones calls to DCL the 3rd woman gave me the 1st timer credit without an issue.

The first call the woman said that I need the postcard no exceptions. Then the second person transferred me to the Castaway Club line which was completely incorrect and then the 3rd woman simply yes there is a Castaway Club referal promotion and added it to my reservation without asking any further questions.

I guess for peace of mind I'd still like to get my hands on a postcard if anyone has one to spare but it seems like I'm ok.

I received a postcard from Monique in Canada. (Thanks, Monique!) The card says it must be applied at the time of booking; however, I had already paid the deposit. I took the card to my TA and she called Disney. They applied the credit with no problem the same day I paid for the remainder of our cruise. Hi,
We have nine cabins for March of 2003. One or more would be a great help. We have one family with six kids going...so just one credit for them would really help. This is a one time only cruise for them. Well at least with all the little ones.

Okay everyone, here is the story.

You do not NEED the postcard to get the shipboard credit.

IF you are eligible and IF you have no other credit attached to your reservation you can ask your TA or DCL to add CODE REF to your reservation.

That's it.

Since it's that simple, I'm closing this thread and we no longer need to worry about sending postcards to others.

Happy cruising everyone! :D
