A Bittersweet Return... Winkler's TR ~ Many Pics! Our time is over!

Hi everyone. I've just started getting back on the boards. For those of you who know my background, Levi's birthday was Mother's Day, so May has been a rough month. Those of you who don't know what i am talking about, read on, all will be revealed in short.

So, we are about 3 months out from our next trip to Disney and I decided to start our PTR. Warning: This may be a bumpy ride!

Who is going? Here is our cast!

Me- Alicia- I love Disney, and have succeeded in hooking my family. This will be our third family trip in as many years. Although, I have been 2 other times as a child. Originally, Disney was supposed to be an every 4 year adventure, but we just love it too much. Our last trip was Sept.- Oct. 2007. We had an amazing time and gained memories that we will cherish always. It was our son, Levi's first trip, he was 17 mo. old. Six days after our return, a 19 yo ran a red light and t-boned our car, sending me and my DH to the hospital for 2 weeks. Our daughter was fine, however, we lost our Levi. Levi sustained serious head injury and could not be revived. Our life has been turned upside down since then. We need some happiness, so off to Disney we go!

There are no words to express how I am feeling, reading about your loss. Just wanted to give some encouragement to write on...

I will be waiting to hear how Disney might help heal a broken heart.

Dh- Matt- Matt is lovin Disney! Like me, he is worried about going back, but at the same time looking forward to it. Two days ago he got an iphone. He got on Disboards with it! He cracks me up! He is not an amusement park lover, but he knows that Disney is so much more.

DD- Isabelle- Isabelle just turned 6! This will be her thirde trip! She is very excited! She is supposed to be taking a friend, in fact the whole family is going, more on that soon! So she is super excited to show someone else Disney!

DS- Levi- Levi will be with us in Spirit. Sadly, I won't get to see the look on his face when the teacups spin, or his excitment over actually seeing Mickey, his favorite. Things like this make it really hard to think about going back. Levi loved Disney and I am going to be a crying mess while we are there, because of that. I miss him greatly.

I am single and do not have any children so I cannot possible understand the magnitude of your loss. When I read your post about your upcoming trip the first thing that came to mind was what an amazing, strong woman you must be. While as you say, your trip will be a bittersweet one, I hope the planning and the trip itself can bring some happiness to you and your family. You have encouraged me to do a pre-trip report. If you can do one for such an emotionally charged trip then I can do one too.

It breaks my heart to hear of your loss. My daughter lost her 12-year-old son 6 years ago, and I felt that I lost both a grandson and a daughter, just watching how she lost her zest for life. For the first time last year, she is finally moving on.

Although it will be very difficult returning to WDW without your son, for your daughter's sake, you are performing a selfless act returning to WDW. She doesn't need to feel guilty about enjoying life. So, your going to WDW is wonderful for all you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers that you will have a wonderful time.

Wow. I can't even imagine being in your shoes.:worship: I have two boys myself-one 18 months and 1 3 yrs. DH is a fireifghter (inspector now) and I work for the district. I cannot explain to anyone how those people could even begin to do what they do for families in such a terrible time. I never want to even imagine what you're going through but if it helps a bit, those who were at the accident are grieving with you as well I'm sure. I wish you all the pixie dust in the world on your trip. I know what a mess I am when I'm there and can't imagine being there after such a loss. I'm sure there are lots of ways you can remember your son and share this trip with him. Can't wait to see how the rest of the planning goes along.

So as Sarah pointed out, you haven't been told any details! Silly me! LOL!

We will be checking into Pop Century on Aug. 30 and out on Sept. 6.
We plan to drive down, as we will be traveling with another family! There should be 6 of us, total.

OK, so I have so much information to share, I hardly know where to start! So how about some more pictures?

As I metioned in my first post, Levi's birthday was on Mother's Day, he would have been 2. Knowing that this was going to be a hard time for my family, and since Isabelle had a 3 day weekend, we drove over to St. Louis. We stayed at the hotel directly across from the arch, it was pretty cool, although the hotel is in need of repair here and there. We spent Saturday at the zoo and Mo. Botanical Gardens (I love this place!), Sunday we drove back and took a balloon bouquet to Levi, featuring Mickey, his favorite. We also found some super cute Mickey Birthday ribbons, he still has those out there. It was extremely windy and rainy on the 11th, so the balloons had to be taken down the next day, but it was so worth it! I didn't get to read him his birthday story, so I wanted to go back Monday to do that.

We plan to arrive in WDW on Aug. 30.

10AM- Check-in and explore Pop (We are bringing newbies!)
11AM- Lunch- Pizza at Pop FC
12PM- Swim
1:30- Unpack, Shower, change, etc...(Crosses fingers that rooms are ready!)
3PM- Bus to DTD
5:45- Dinner- Raglan Road
8:30- Bus to Poly to watch Wishes from beach with Slightly Goofy and some other Dis Members
10:30- Monorail to Mk/ Bus to Pop and Bedtime!


So, you are wondering, I'm sure, who are these 3 other mysterious guests tagging along? Well they are a Dear Friend and her 2 children who are 6 and 2. They have never been on a family vacation, so this is BIG! Isabelle and the 6 yo were in the same class and the 2 yo is a mere five days older than Levi (which in some ways will be very hard). Once I talk to this friend, I will try to post more details!

I SO know, I should be in bed right now, but I'm not...

I REALLY want to share this, then maybe I'll go to bed! LOL!

A little over a week ago, something amazing happened to me, here on the DIS! I have made so many friends on here, and a couple really stand out. One of those is Mouse Triper.

This woman found me on my last TR and kindly volunteered to make collage of my TR photos. She endeed up sending me more than that, however, I also got a keychain with all of my TR photos on it and some slideshows for my DVD player! To add to that, her lovely daughter sent Isabelle a great art set! Well, isn't that just the sweetest! This is one amazing woman! She emails me from time to time, just to check on me! I just love her to pieces! I can't wait until someday, when we can meet IRL!

So, as I was saying, I hadn't checked my email in a few days, and I had like 3 messages from her, bless her heart, she worries so! I thought, well, I'll just read the most recent one...Bad idea! It basically said, " I am worried I made you mad" and I'm thinking, how could she possibly...?

So I read the one before that, well, what she suggested in her first email (which, I had not read yet, LOL!) she went ahead and did! This shows you all how special any friendship "can" be if the friends really care for one another. She knew that last year I made custom outfits for Isabelle and Levi, I hand sewed each piece, as I didn't have a machine! I suppose I gave her the impression that I wasn't going to this year, and she was right. I can't even bring myself to consider the idea. I did once, about a month ago, it went like this...
sees cool Disney fabric and thinks to self...
"That would make a cool top for Isabelle and shorts for Levi..."

It broke my heart! I started crying, in stinkin' wally world!

I can't think of me sewing, without making things for Levi too! If I make an outfit for Isabelle, I need to make something for Levi. Period!

Well, my dear friend got on a board I used to frequent often, the *Disboutique* Thread, I'm sure you've seen it, heck I think they are on, like part 5! On that thread, she posted an idea! Being a fan of Oprah's Big Give, she wanted to do a Big Give for us! Now, as soon as I read that, I cried! No kidding!! My Dh says, are you looking at our TR again? No, it's..., but I couldn't get it out! Of course, I WAS NOT angry!!!!

So, Mouse Triper did this awesome thing and got the ball rolling for some VERY TALENTED ladies to help make this trip a bit more special, since it is going to be so hard for Matt and I. I don't think she thought it would get nearly as much attention as it apparently has! According to her, we will be changing outfits, like 2-3 xs a day! A few of these women have been in contact with me, but the rest is a surprise (I've been somewhat banned from that thread to keep from spoiling the surprise:(LOL) The couple I have talked to, I know are extremely talented women and I can't wait to see their creations! Mouse Tripper told me to be expecting the first one soon! And I have promised her pictures and I will make you the same promise....

So stay tuned for some awesome customs! And once again, THANK YOU MOUSE TRIPPER!!! You are a "kiss" from God reminding me that He has not forgotten me or my pain.

I am a mom to two boys, 3 and a little over two. In fact, Levi and Liam are about a month apart and Liam was due when Levi was born. Reading your story has hit very close to home for me. Words cannot explain the amount my heart breaks for you... yet you seem so strong. I am glad you decided to go back to Disney. I am sure it will be painful, but you are right... Levi will be with you. I do believe in the Disney magic and I am sure some will be sprinkled your way!

BTW... the first day plans look great and I have seen the BIG GIVE outfits. Wow!! They are AMAZING!!!

Thanks for stopping by! I love the name Liam! It is too cute! I miss Levi so much, it really is a terrible feeling to loose one of your own. People think I am so strong, but I know I HAVE to keep going, I still have Isabelle to worry about. And she needs to do normal family things still. And DH and I are lucky that this has strenghthened our relationship, as it is a true test for a marriage too. If I don't have them, then there isn't anything keeping me here. They keep me grounded and somewhat sane, most of the time! LOL!

I am so jealous that you have seen the outfits!;)

Oh, that is nothing! Matt used to trap a bit for the neighbor, he had a Muskrat problem at his lake. Well Matt caught a couple and Isabelle picked one up and started petting it! I REALLY want to share this, then maybe I'll go to bed! LOL!

A little over a week ago, something amazing happened to me, here on the DIS! I have made so many friends on here, and a couple really stand out. One of those is Mouse Triper.

This woman found me on my last TR and kindly volunteered to make collage of my TR photos. She endeed up sending me more than that, however, I also got a keychain with all of my TR photos on it and some slideshows for my DVD player! To add to that, her lovely daughter sent Isabelle a great art set! Well, isn't that just the sweetest! This is one amazing woman! She emails me from time to time, just to check on me! I just love her to pieces! I can't wait until someday, when we can meet IRL!

So, as I was saying, I hadn't checked my email in a few days, and I had like 3 messages from her, bless her heart, she worries so! I thought, well, I'll just read the most recent one...Bad idea! It basically said, " I am worried I made you mad" and I'm thinking, how could she possibly...?

So I read the one before that, well, what she suggested in her first email (which, I had not read yet, LOL!) she went ahead and did! This shows you all how special any friendship "can" be if the friends really care for one another. She knew that last year I made custom outfits for Isabelle and Levi, I hand sewed each piece, as I didn't have a machine! I suppose I gave her the impression that I wasn't going to this year, and she was right. I can't even bring myself to consider the idea. I did once, about a month ago, it went like this...
sees cool Disney fabric and thinks to self...
"That would make a cool top for Isabelle and shorts for Levi..."

It broke my heart! I started crying, in stinkin' wally world!

I can't think of me sewing, without making things for Levi too! If I make an outfit for Isabelle, I need to make something for Levi. Period!

Well, my dear friend got on a board I used to frequent often, the *Disboutique* Thread, I'm sure you've seen it, heck I think they are on, like part 5! On that thread, she posted an idea! Being a fan of Oprah's Big Give, she wanted to do a Big Give for us! Now, as soon as I read that, I cried! No kidding!! My Dh says, are you looking at our TR again? No, it's..., but I couldn't get it out! Of course, I WAS NOT angry!!!!

So, Mouse Triper did this awesome thing and got the ball rolling for some VERY TALENTED ladies to help make this trip a bit more special, since it is going to be so hard for Matt and I. I don't think she thought it would get nearly as much attention as it apparently has! According to her, we will be changing outfits, like 2-3 xs a day! A few of these women have been in contact with me, but the rest is a surprise (I've been somewhat banned from that thread to keep from spoiling the surprise:(LOL) The couple I have talked to, I know are extremely talented women and I can't wait to see their creations! Mouse Tripper told me to be expecting the first one soon! And I have promised her pictures and I will make you the same promise....

So stay tuned for some awesome customs! And once again, THANK YOU MOUSE TRIPPER!!! You are a "kiss" from God reminding me that He has not forgotten me or my pain.

I am so glad we are friends, and I hope we can meet in real life sometime soon. You know I am always here for you, anytime, just a phone call away. I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your son. I cannot even begin to imagine what you and your family have gone through. I am sure that it will be hard to go back to WDW without Levi but I hope it brings back many great memories.

It looks like you had a great time at the St Louis Zoo. My family loves to go there on occasion. I is one of the best zoos we have ever been to.

Your daughter is beautiful and I love the custom outfits you made, I wish I had that kind of talent. I guess it is a good thing I have boys.

When you posted the pics on the thread, I knew some serious love and dedication had to go into each and every stitch of those outfits for you to so patiently do all that work by hand. I was, and still am, amazed. I remember thinking, hey, if she can do this by hand, maybe I can give sewing a shot too. :) You inspired me to make some very special clothes for my own children.

I heard about your tragedy soon after it happened and I cried my heart out. I barely knew you at all, but you and your little ones touched my life, and I couldn't begin to imagine your pain. I've held my boys, and my baby girl a little closer ever since. God bless you and your family. May you all find the strength and courage to move forward and once again know joy. May your little angel find peace and happiness as he smiles down on you and your family until you meet again. :hug:

Can't wait to see more pictures as the BIG GIVE outfits arrive. The ones I've seen have been beautiful but I know they will be even more stunning when Isabelle is modeling them!

Oh, honey, I am just honored that each of you are doing ANYTHING! I would be afrai to sew for someone else's child too, although I am sure whatever you would make would be lovely! I am sure you are very talented!

I've just followed snubie over as well. I'm busy sewing for Isabelle but I'm definitey not one of the talented people but just someone who loves to sew!!!

My daughter was born last October and we will be taking her to WDW this Christmas when she will be 15 months. I've read your trip report and cried at parts but I have also shown Hope your photos and told her about Isabelle and Levi.

My parcel will be winging its way from the UK so I hope it doesn't take forever!!

Sawyer is 1 month younger than Levi and I found myself tearing up several times while watching him enjoy Disney. :hug: I can't imagine how hard it must be for you. I lost a nephew to SIDS when he was 6 months old. I never had the privilege of meeting him. But, I see the pain my SIL endures on a daily basis, even 9 years later. So, I know it takes a strong and loving person to keep going after a tragedy like this.

I thought of you the other day when I was watching Oprah. She was doing a story on the family that lost their young daughter to a drunk driving crash.

both parents sat there and said that they didn't care about anything anymore and if it weren't for their other kids they'd wish for death. The whole family said that they don't do holidays or birthdays anymore b/c their daughter can't be there with them. It was heartbreaking.

It made me that much more aware of your strength...of your love for your family.

Going back to Disney is the right thing to do. For all of you. You will never stop missing Levi, but you honor his life and his memory by continuing to be the loving wonderful parents you have always been.

We know how those parents feel. We didn't celebrate Thanksgiving. We didn't want to celebrate Christmas, we didn't want to celebrate Easter. We only did so b/c of Isabelle. It is so hard not having him here, he is a big part of our family and Matt and I feel hollow w/o him. We did want to throw him a birthday party, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I keep going b/c it is the right thing to do for Isabelle.

I remember you from the board as I was hand sewing at the same time you were. I got my machine as an early x-mas pesent. I feel so close to you and hope that my gift for the big give gives you so joy on this had trip. Roseanna (my DD is 5) and Russell was born a few days before Levi (5/8) so I was hit very hard by your story and have been sitting crying my eyes out looking at Levi's gorgous pics while I should be making dinner for the kids. We were actually in Disney while you were last time for DH's pre-deployment trip (I read your whole TR in one night when the big give was announced and knew I had to help.) Hi Wendy!!! I talked to my friend tonight, she came to the game (I have some pics I'll post later!) and sounds like she is still a go! I am so happy!!!!

So I did some laundry and dishes this morning. Isabelle worked on some art, she wanted me to show you!

Then I ran to wal- mart, home (25 min each way), realized I forgot a bag (the one with Isabelle's shirt for the game at 6PM), woke Matt up, made him rush to get dressed (hair unfixed and all!), then dropped them off at swimming lessons (10 min each way, 5PM), called my friend Sandy as I was driving back toward Wl- Mart, she offered to get the bag I forgot (she is my lifesaver!), so I got gas, went back to get Matt and Isabelle, the back home b/c we forgot her socks and shoes (5:35), to the game (It is now 6PM, Sandy pulled in behind us, they were already starting the game!), changed Isabelle's shirt, Matt went home (AGAIN!) b/c Isabelle didn't put her glove in the car as asked, and now things are slowing down! Whew! That is some freight train sentence! I'm still hoping to work on my novel tonight!

I finally had a chance to look at my schedule and see if it was possible to meet up..


We are arriving Aug 29 and leaving September 4th.. We will actually be in Hollywood Studios on September 1st so we can do the meet at Fantasmic at 10 :yay: .. I sure wish I would be there for the glow party as that sounds so cool! but we'll already be home by then.. and I'll have already gone back to work :sick:

I distinctly remember the first thought I had as I came across pictures of your two children on the disboutiquers thread, they were in their POOH customs by a tree and I was wowed by Levi's eyes,such beautiful eyes!!::yes:: I followed along a bit on that thread -altho I dont sew a stitch, but I was always amazed at the friendly and waaaay talented people on that thread. I so enjoyed seeing both of your little ones in various amazing outfits. Then a few months later I read a message from HeathandJavens mom and I cried like I am as I write this. I hold you and your family close in prayer and I smile when I think of those beautiful eyes of Levis. Im happy that u are writing this trip report as it gives many of us a place to visit pictures of both your son and daughter- and enjoy them both right along with you.Thank u for being so brave - and thank u for sharing. Thank you Karen. Levi's eyes were just gorgeous. It amazes me that a brown eyed mommy and hazel eyed daddy had such a vibrantly blue eyed little man. I miss those smiling eyes so much.

I am so sorry for your lost I just sat here and read this entire thread and cried! I love those Baby Blue eyes! He is a gorgeous angel! I have a angel too! In my signature you will see it. He is my 6yr old nephew! We were in Disney in April 2003 the entire family! Me and Dh and DD and DS and my Sis and her DD and Ds Ds that is now our angel and my Dad and Mom! We lost him 9 months after our trip my sister had a house fire and he was pronounced immediately my other nephew was also but he was revived by the works of God! And my Niece got out unharmed along with my sis's boyfriend . My sis was at work when it happened ! I got a phone call froma cousin that lived down a few doors! It was heart wrenching but to get to the point we all went back to Disney this past April minus my Sis(she couldnt get off work!) and My Nephew Tyller our Angel. It was so hard and we stayed at the same exact place it just worked out that way! But it was like you said bittersweet. I wish you all the prayers in world! I know how I felt and still feel and he was my nephew a piece is missing that will never be replaced and my son and him were 1 1/2 apart and very close! That was a huge thing to help him get through! He was only 5 and didn't quite understand why his buddy wouldnt be back.But I just want you to know we are here for you and I know there are very long hard days ahead but stay strong for your daughter and you will make it through it ! I's not that it ever gets easier you just find a way to cope with it that makes it seem a little easier I can't explain it there is no words to explain it but Hang in there. We are at Pop also but we are there from 8/24 thru 8/31! Maybe we will see you one of our last days! I can't wait to see all these beautiful outfits also!!! I'm so excited for you and your family!:hug:

I am a long time lurker over at the boutique thread, where I first saw your works...my mom prefers to hand sew things, so I know what kind of work you put into those clothes!! Through that I also learned about the accident and Levi, and I am so sorry, I still say prayers for you guys! I also followed along on your past TR. I am so happy that I found your PTR! I am really happy that you guys are going back to WDW! I can't wait to hear more of your plans, and hear all about your trip and Dis Meets when you guys get home!!

The only thing that overlaps is the meet at Fantasmic as we will be in Hollywood Studios that day and will stay for the evening.. Are you guys gonna be at that meet at 10 pm??

I am so sorry for your lost I just sat here and read this entire thread and cried! I love those Baby Blue eyes! He is a gorgeous angel! I have a angel too! In my signature you will see it. He is my 6yr old nephew! We were in Disney in April 2003 the entire family! Me and Dh and DD and DS and my Sis and her DD and Ds Ds that is now our angel and my Dad and Mom! We lost him 9 months after our trip my sister had a house fire and he was pronounced immediately my other nephew was also but he was revived by the works of God! And my Niece got out unharmed along with my sis's boyfriend . My sis was at work when it happened ! I got a phone call froma cousin that lived down a few doors! It was heart wrenching but to get to the point we all went back to Disney this past April minus my Sis(she couldnt get off work!) and My Nephew Tyller our Angel.
