View Full Version : Gluttony . . . Pure Gluttony. 14 nights food reviews from two little piggies!LAST DAY

Hi there!! :)
Well we are back from 14 nights at Port Orleans French Quarter. Am thoroughly depressed that its over, but had the best vacation EVER, in no small part thanks to all the tips on these boards!! So as way of thanks I thought I would crack on with ALL my food reviews and hopefully can help some other people with their food choices!
As you can tell from the title we are pigs!!! We eat pretty healthily at home, so on vacation and at Christmas we go all out, no guilt and no worrying about the scales. The only worry is whether we have the room to eat everything we want to. We managed that pretty well as you will see! DH has weighed himself since we got home yesterday and has put on 14 pounds!!! I haven’t the courage to weigh myself until I am re-acquainted with the treadmill!!!! Am currently cooking up a veg soup for lunch, to remind my body what fresh food resembles.!
The cast . . . me, 30 years old, been mad about Disney since my first visit almost 20 years ago. Love Eeyore and Belle, but this vacation also found myself with a strange fondness for both Tinkerbell and Donald Duck! Adore food, especially ribs, wings and chocolate, more a quantity than quality kind of girl!!!
DH (known as TG), 29 years old, never considered Disney until I dragged him there for our first magical vacation together in 2003, now loves it as much as me. Also loves Eeyore, and also will pick food quantity over quality anytime (the two piggies are well suited)! Loves chicken and burgers. We got married at the Disney Wedding Pavillion in 2006 so has committed himself to a life full of Disney forever. Poor fool!
My mum calls us the “garlic twins” because we eat it so much. We love it, but apparently we don’t always smell so good!!!!!! We don’t like seafood so no reviews of that coming up!
We don’t do the DDP as we like to eat off site a few times. I have listed below all the places we ate at (quite a lot!). I know most people do DDP so I will just give brief reviews of the off-site places in case anyone is interested!

Ok, lets get started!
Saturday 10th May.
Originally we had Kona Café booked for dinner tonight, but a few weeks ago I realised we may not fancy going out after a 9 hour flight, so we decided to wing it (how un-Dis of me!!). :scared1:
We checked in the hotel about 5.30pm and decided to go for a walk to Riverside to wake us up (it was already 10.30pm on our body’s times). We happened upon the Riverside Mill food court there . . . and my eyes were caught by a sparkly thing of beauty in the bakery. It was a Magic Cookie Bar. At first I resisted and we walked ¼ way back to FQ, but I kept thinking of it so back we went!! Oops! This is typical of me, I attempt willpower but generally give in, usually after we have left the area. This does not make TG happy. :rotfl2:
This little treat was too die for!!!!!!!! I would say one of the best snacks I have ever had. It was a sweet biscuit base (a bit like Digestives if you have them in the US, if not you can try a pack in Epcot!) covered in loads of choc chips and oats. I definitely give it 10/10. TG can’t comment as I didn’t share!!!!!!!!!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2003-1.jpg
See that look of love in my eye! That’s how good this was! Most of the early food piccies I took have TG or me in them – it took me a while to get used to just taking food by itself! We vanish in a couple of days!!!!!
Now TG and I have three fave treats here in the UK which we were determined to have – for once guilt free - in Orlando. Krispy Kreme donuts, KFC and Dominos. So we decided to have a Dominos tonight and just slouch about in our room. Was a bit of a nightmare to order as they would only accept calls from the hotel reception phone (luckily we found a very helpful concierge who understood the need for a Dominos!). Once ordered it took about 25 mins to arrive. We ordered a large pizza with the “Americas favourite” topping (pepperoni, savory Italian sausage, fresh mushrooms and cheese) and a side of wings for me. Now I have to say the pizza was a disappointment – very dry – I only had 2 slices. It was large, and loads of topping, but drier than we are used to. The wings were good though, and lots of them. Very hot and yummy. I love wings to be so covered in hot sauce that when I take my contact lenses out hours later my eyes sting like crazy from the chilli still being on my fingers. Well these were that good! TG only got one of them, but then he did eat the rest of the pizza so he didn’t starve!!!!! 6/10.

So all in all not a bad first night! Up next, 1900 Park Fare Breakfast.

Ohh look at all you readers! This is so exciting!! Welcome all (if I knew how to multi-quote I would welcome you all personally)!!!!!! :welcome:
So onwards to Sunday 11th May, and breakfast at Park Fare 1900, Grand Floridian.
Our ADR was for 8.05am, and we were seated straight away. Only a few other tables were filled at that point, and the restaurant was probably still a quarter empty by the time we left. Definitely a nice gentle character breakfast to get us started, as opposed to the manic Crystal Palace later in the trip! The first character came out about 5 mins after we arrived, and they sent new ones out in 10 minute intervals after that. We saw Pooh, Tigger, Mary Poppins, Alice and the Mad Hatter. Loads of character interaction as the place was quite quiet, we saw each character twice, so I would definitely recommend it if you like any of those characters.
A pot of coffee was waiting for us on the table, but being a good British girl I naturally had to ask for tea!!! Look at the amount of teabags the sent me!!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2014.jpg
I was well excited!! But then they took the box away after I took one and left me distraught!!! Now I should point out we are not coffee experts so this review is no good for the people who like the good, strong stuff –we have a jar of Nescafe in the kitchen at home and that’s it! But this tasted pretty good to TG! I had a cranberry juice and TG had an orange juice to go with it.
Onto the good stuff! I very slackly forgot to take photo’s of our first plates. Easy to describe though – I had a bowl of pineapple and TG had a bowl of melon. Both nice and fresh. I am not a fan of tinned fruit.
Hot stuff. I started with bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, ham and a sticky bun. The bacon was OK, I am not fan of really crispy bacon to be honest. The sausage and ham were good. I had a little scrambled egg just to say I had tried it, and it was fine. I actually prefer fried eggs but can never be bothered to wait for them to be cooked for me so rarely have them. The sticky bun was great! Really sticky (believe it or not!) and a hint of cinnamon. Lovely.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2018.jpg
TG had bacon, sausage, French toast, and pizza. The pizza had pork, egg, and cheese on it and was wolfed down. He says the other items were all OK.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2019.jpg
Next plate – this is me showing restraint. Mickey waffle, ONE pancake (that’s the restraint part :rotfl: ) and lots of maple syrup. Both hot and good. TG had the same and it vanished off the plate pretty quick.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2021.jpg
So there we were, stuffed and ready to roll out of there. But wait!!! Suddenly I remembered the strawberry soup I had heard so much about on the Dis boards. Now having already been up to the buffet three times I was a bit embarrassed, so I did what any sensible woman would do. Sent her husband up to search for some! I told him to just get me a little, and darn it, he took me at my word. He came back with a tiny scraping in the bottom of the bowl. But it was enough for a taste, and that taste was superb! Basically like a strawberry smoothie in a bowl. Lovely. Highly recommend it.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2026-1.jpg
TG then had a bowl of icecream to finish off. The Mad Hatter sure told him off for that at breakfast!!!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2025-1.jpg
So all in all a really nice breakfast in a lovely environment. 8/10 as a whole. I would definitely go back, but may try the dinner buffet next time!
Up next, Earl of Sandwich lunch and Tony Roma’s dinner.

Hehe! You had me at the evil glint in your eye while holding up the Magic Bar!
I can't believe a pencil girl like you can put down a truck driver's portion of breakfast! :rotfl2: I, however, am among the fluffier variety, and most people wouldn't think twice that I could. ;)
Here's a quick lesson about Photobucket and multi-quoting posts.
First, let's start with multi-quotes...
At the bottom right of other people's posts, you'll see three buttons:
Quote, Multi-Quote and Quick Reply. Choose the second button (the paper with the quote marks) to highlight any post you wish to quote.
Continue choosing the quote marks of every person's post you want to quote until you've paged through all the posts you want to quote. Then hit the Reply button, located on the bottom of whatever page you're currently on. You'll auto-magically see all the quoted texts of the people you want to respond to, surrounded by the tags of and [ /quote]
Just post your replies after each time you see the tag, between each person's quoted text. When you've finished responding to everyone on that reply, just hit your post button, and you're done!
Now for Photobucket...
Before I post all my pictures here, I painstakingly resize them on Photobucket to "Message Board" size. After I've uploaded in bulk, I start by clicking on my first photo. It opens the photo to another page where the top border lists options.
The third option from the left is "resize". Use the down arrow to find the preset selection for "message board". Once it tells me it's updated the sizing, I look to the thumbnail photos to the right where you can view "back and next" photos. I just keep hitting "next", resize it and continue until I'm done. If I have a lot of photos to resize, I'll just resize them in batches so I don't go numb with boredom. ;)
When you've finished resizing, you can click back to view the album, and then copy and paste the images when you need them. They should all be sized properly.

I’m back!
Well, DH has a serious death wish going on. We went back to work today (sob). Last night I was getting my clothes ready for today and he asked whether I was sure everything would fit me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A little harsh me thinks?!!
Now I am sitting at my desk the waistband is cutting in a tad, but really!!! :rotfl:
On with the grub! Sunday 11th May cont.
We went shopping all morning (it’s a hard life!) with just a Starbucks Caramel Frappachino to keep us going (10/10 – I just love Starbucks!!), and finally stopped for lunch about 2.30pm. This was a cunning plan as I remember Earl of Sandwich used to be terribly busy between 12-2pm, and we could never get a table. Now we had been CRAVING an EoS for two years! We love them! Love, love, love. We went to Vegas and LA last year, and the EoS in Vegas opened up a few weeks after we left and the one in California was over an hours drive away. So this was it, our chance!! It was on the schedule for us to eat here 4 times this trip, so brace yourself for boredom if you’re not eating there!
We had both known for 2 years what we were having – Me – The beloved Original. TG – his beloved Earls Club. I ordered while TG grabbed an indoor table – yey! I also ordered one of their brownies – I have been dreaming about those little delights for two years as well!
Then we waited, and waited. After a good 10 mins someone asked TG (I had got bored waiting and sent him up to wait) what order number he was. He told them, they looked panicked and rushed off. Yep they had lost our order – things like this always happen to us – we are such Eeyores! After a few more minutes we got our food.
Piccie – original at front and Club at back.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2047-1-1.jpg
Me first – as good as I remember!!! Loads of thinly sliced beef, a good thick layer of horse radish, soft yet crusty hot bread. TO DIE FOR! 10/10:yay:
TG – he was a little disappointed, said it was good but not quite as good as he remembered. I think he had probably just built it up in his mind too much over the 2 years though. Plus he was sulking that I had got myself a brownie but forgot to get him his chips (Mrs Vichy or whatever they are called). Apparently you can’t eat a sandwich without chips on the side! Who knew?! 8/10
The brownie was also excellent – thick gooey base, with a sweet, cracked top – 10/10! You can just see it under my sandwich wrapper.
Dinner – Tony Romas on I-Drive.
We adore Tony Romas, we are both rib fanatics and Tony Romas are still the best we have ever had anywhere, ever. We discovered Tony Roma’s in Australia years ago and have stuffed our faces in them world-wide (well, Orlando, Vegas and LA) ever since. There is only one Tony Roma’s in England and it’s a 3 hour drive from us, so 2 or 3 times a year we make the long drive and go all that way just for lunch! And its always worth it! Well it is for me as me and my full belly can sleep all the way home! Not so good for my chauffeur who has to manage the long drive with no company and a full tum!
So it was nice to only have a 15 minute drive to I-Drive, rather than a three hour journey! We arrived about 7.30 and waited about 10 seconds to be seated, which was good. Can’t remember our waiters name, but he was very friendly and very efficient. I went for a glass of wine and was tipsy within two minutes flat – I so cannot take alcohol! Food – I ordered wings and a Roma rack of original baby backs. TG went for steak sliders and a full rack of original babybacks. I had loaded mash and tomato pesto salad as sides, and TG had fries and coleslaw.
The food came very quickly. The wings were superb – spicy, hot and moist. Now please brace yourself before looking at the picture – I was so keen to try them that I couldn’t be bothered to wait and get a photo (I was desperate, it had been 24 hours since I had last tasted some). So there I am innocently sucking those poor bones dry when TG decided to snap a picture of me - it is not pretty. But it gives you an idea of how many wings there were, and how tasty they were! 10/10
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2075-1-1.jpg
Look at that pile of little corpses. Delightful!!!
TG’s sliders – good, but it was quite hard biting into the steak. He would have preferred them to be proper burgers - 9/10 (sorry, failed to take picture, oops!).
This picture below is how I would rather you remember me, than the bone sucking creature above.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2077-1.jpg
Ribs – to die for!!! Fell off the bone, tasty, yummy, good meat - no fat. All the different sauces were available on the table for us to try (which is why we went for original on the actual ribs). TG’s corn and fries were excellent. My tomato pesto salad was really nice and refreshing. The mash was OK – you could tell it was the powdered kind, it was a bit grainy! Because of the mash I have to only give the meal 9.5 /10. TG gives his 10/10. I was glad I went for a smaller size rack so I could walk out rather than roll.
TG's plate after - not much left and too full to sit up straight!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2078-1.jpg
A great meal, and one we will return to again on our second week!
So you would think we have eaten enough today? NOPE! Whilst at DTD earlier we popped into Goofy’s candy store and had some MYO treats made up! This was a great time of day to do it (3pm) no one else was in there. I filmed the girl making them which she seemed to find weird – obviously not a Dis-ser!
So what did we have . . . . I had marshmallows (great value, you even get a straw to keep!!), rolled in milk chocolate, covered in oreo crumbs, and drizzled in caramel. TG had a rice crispie thing, covered in milk chocolate, rolled in reeses pieces and oreo crumbs and drizzled in caramel.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2079-1.jpg
These were good – I gave mine 8/10 (I wished I had got 2 toppings). TG gave his 10/10. I will just point out these took 2 nights to eat, so we’re not quite the piggies you think . . . . ahem. :lmao:
So all in all an excellent days calorie intake.
Up next POFQ breakfast, Chefs De France lunch, and Boma dinner. PLUS snacks at Fountain View and Norway. Oink, oink.

We are all season ticket holders too, my three sons sit in the Barclay, I used to sit in the City stand next season have moved into disabled area as stairs were too much for my Dad.
As we are staying at POFQ any tips/advice?
As for DH
I used to be a Barclay girl! I don't go anymore, can't bear being out in the cold (and I would be shunned anyway if they found out what I was married to!!!)!! My family are all in the Jarrold stand. Such a small world (now who's singing that awful song?!).
POFQ -we didn't ask for a certain block just thought we would leave it to fate. Now I have stayed in block 3 though I think I would alway request it again - it was just 2 mins from the shop, foodcourt, pool and carpark. Took about 8/9 mins to walk to Riverside. We only used the foodcourt for breakfast so I can't recommend any meals there- the beignets were as good as people say at breakfast though! And just to help you - its pronounced ben-yays. We made idiots of ourself the first morning trying to find out how to say it!!!
If you're like me and don't like the cold I found the pool at Riverside to be a bit warmer that the one at FQ - that was worth the walk for me!! Plus it means you are near the magic cookie bars. . . :cloud9:

If you love ribs, then you MUST go to Flannigan's. They are a South FL chain but there is one in Stuart, FL so that's like an hour and a half drive from Orlando. They have the most delicious baby back ribs I have ever had. Even better than Tony Roma's.
Loving the report so far, I could never imagine 14 days at Disney. The most I've done is 8.

Woohoo! You mastered the multi-quote thing on post #58 then reverted back to your old ways. We'll bring you to the Dark Side soon enough. ;)
It does break my heart to see you listing nationwide chains as the "best" you've had. Granted, you did share how poor the Domino's pizza is (and I'll have to agree), but we need to share our "best" places with out-of-towners.
But I do have to admit, the ribs at Tony Roma's looked tasty. ;)
And the Goofy's Candy Company concoctions were obscene. In the best way possible, of course!

Oh they sound great thanks - if I can drive 3 hours for a rib, an hour and a half is defo do-able! 14 nights ... the hotel room felt like home by the end!

Monday 12th May
Finally a whole day of Disney meals!
So we decided to do something we had never managed before this vacation – make the rope drops at the parks! So for the next three days we had the same breakfast in our room for speed– Cornflakes and grapefruit that we picked up at Walmarts (another chain, I’m sorry!!) and a coffee and BEIGNETS from the foodcourt. Believe it or not from these reviews we’re not actually big breakfast people, so this was perfect for us! :)
I won’t review Cornflakes, lets focus on the Beignets! Prior to going I had wondered what on earth the fuss was about – they certainly don’t look like much! However in my mission to try every single item of food that had even been mentioned on these boards I sent TG to get an order of 3 (instead of 6, see that restraint I spoke about?!). I had 1, TG had 2. :worship: Deep fried puffed up pastry with about an inch of icing sugar on the top – what more do you need?! TG gives them 8/10, I’m a resounding 10/10! Only problem is they are really messy –best to eat before getting dressed which is easy in your room, not quite so easy in the food court. Oh, and we liked the foodcourt coffee, I know it gets slated but for a Nescafe girl it tasted nice and smooth!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2082-1.jpg
We managed to make it to lunch without snacking (shocker). Lunch was booked for 12 at Chefs De France and we were one of the first taken in – got a lovely window seat. We had never been here and I had booked this restaurant on the basis on one review that I read getting on for a year ago than sung the praises of the Quiche Lorraine– I adore quiche! I was determined to just be good and have one course. Then I spotted the French Onion Soup on the menu . . . I love me some french onion soup. Sigh. I had a rather nasty incident with it in LA last year which I feared may have put me off it forever  , but there it was, calling to me – who was I to deny it?! So I ordered that and the quiche – TG ordered the soup and the croque monsieur (toasted ham and cheese sandwich).
Rolls came first – nice – soft and warm. I had half, which I’m probably means TG had 1 and a ½! Then the soup arrived. It was seriously lovely. Rich good quality soup, shed loads of onion, lots of bread and cheese on top– we both loved it and licked the bowls clean. One of the nicest I have ever had.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2118-1.jpg
Entrée – Both dishes came with a small salad which had a nice dressing on it. TG’s croque monsieur was lovely – really light yet filling, just the right amounts of ham and cheese. I tasted a tiny bit and loved it. I wished I had ordered it . . . . the quiche was a bit of a let down after a years drooling for one vital reason – it was HOT! I don’t like hot quiche! I like it to be chilled so the eggy goo sets firmly!!! To be fair the pastry was light and crumbly, and there was loads of filling which tasted nice – it just wasn’t what I had been imagining. If you like hot quiche (like most normal people do) I’m sure you would love it. TG gives his meal 10/10 and says it was one of the best meals of the trip. I give mine 8.5/10 (soup 10, quiche 7). We thought the food was really good quality, the restaurant was elegant, service excellent and will definitely return.

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2121-1.jpg
Mid afternoon we found ourselves in need of a rest so headed to the Fountain View café, where we could sit outside and people watch. We both had waffle cones – I had one scoop of good old chocolate and TG has 2 scoops – one vanilla and one rainbow sherbet. Both excellent – sometimes you just need some icecream.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2132-1.jpg
Dinner! Boma was booked for about 7.30pm . I booked this because of all the good reviews. It took a heck of a lot of arm twisting of TG – he is not very adventurous when it comes to food but eventually he agreed to give it a try – yey! We arrived a few minutes early, and had to wait what felt like ages to be seated (prob about 15 mins). Got to our table. Waited, and waited, and waited. After about 15 mins we still hadn’t seen a waiter to even give a drink order. Ordinarily we would have just gone up to the buffet and got cracking, but I had read on here from other people about the waiters explaining about all the different pods and what was on them, so we waited.
What to do while waiting . . . take loads of pictures of yourself!!!!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2153-1.jpg
After about 10 mins our waiter hussled up, moaned about how busy he was, took our drinks orders and cleared off again. Not a word about the food!!! We decided to be take on the spirit of adventure and go forth to the food.
1st plate – I had the three types of hummus (chick pea, tomato and bean I think???), and African bread (which was crisp) and pitta bread to mop it up. Also had some sort of coconut salad, and a teensy tiny bit of watermelon rind salad. All lovely apart from the watermelon rind salad – what the heck possesses anyone to eat that?! TG surprised me by trying hummus (he never has any when I have it at home) the two breads and I think some salad. I made him try the watermelon rind as well. Why suffer alone?! I think he spat it into a tissue, so also not a great endorsement.
Appetizers
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2154-1.jpg
2nd plates – we both had roughly the same. I had some cornbread which I had decided I was going to try this year (never had it before!) – So moist - loved it!!! How have I never had any before!? We both tried falafel which we had never had before, sausage, chicken (tenders for me, roast for TG), potatoes with Afritude, coconut rice and corn. All very good and well flavoured, a really nice surprise! The chef did see fit to explain to me what a sausage was which made me laugh! Obviously I looked bemused, but I was more bemused that they had big pork sausages in Africa, rather than not knowing what it was!! The only thing I wasn’t so keen on was a beef and lamb mix (looked like a pie) with what resembled pastry on the top, but was actually more of an egg topping – sort of like lasagne. TG loved it and had seconds! Which was surprising to me as at home he won’t eat lamb so I have to cook 2 meals whenever I want it!!! Actually he had seconds of most of the above, I just had a little more rice (love coconut) and another falafel. I started off liking those but went off them the more I had!!!
Our first entrees
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2155-1-1.jpg
On to dessert and something I had been waiting to try for months – zebra domes. I knew I would like them so grabbed 2! I also had crunchy choc mousse, banana bread and warm vanilla sauce, pineapple cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake. Whew! Chocolate crunchy mousse was Ok – bit flavourless, the pineapple cheesecake was good – really rich. The banana bread and warm vanilla sauce was a revelation – I really loved that. Zebra Domes . .. . sorry but I don’t get them!! Can’t put my finger on why, but I didn’t love them. They were just OK; TG said the same. They were squishier than I expected. I was stuffed so just picked at all those desserts and didn’t finish much!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2157-1-1.jpg
TG had a plate of fresh fruit, with cookies and then somefruit tarts (I think) I was too full to lift the camera by then.
All in all we really liked it! TG says “Boma surprised me how tasty it was” so pass that on if you have any picky eaters in your group who are dithering about going! He scored it 9/10. Me 8/10. The service didn’t pick up much all night so I just hope you don’t get our server! Will definitely return.
SO! There we are full up for the night. . . :rotfl2: ;)
NOPE!!!! Because we had been to Epcot today. And what do Epcot have that I have been reading about for months?! That’s right – schoolbread!!!!! We had brought one earlier and put it in our fridge for safe keeping. Got back to the room and panic overcame us – what if it went stale overnight?! We wanted to give it a fair review, and in order to be fair surely the food had to be fresh!? Yep, we cracked into it. TG was so desperate he cut it in half before I could get a piccie, so this is a cross-section for you.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2158-1-1.jpg
Hands off girls - this romantic fool is all mine!!!!!!!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2159-1-1.jpg
I only ate ½ of my half (someone else stuffed all of his!) but that was enough to discover the pure exquisiteness! How do they make bread and custard that light?! And who thought to put coconut on top?! The Norwegians are geniuses. Loved this, we gave it 9/10 each – I can’t remember why not 10. Possibly because it was really sickly and we had started it after a rather large buffet?!
So another days stuffing over – I estimate 20000 calories and I don’t think I even managed one portion of fruit and veg. I love vacation!!!!!
Up tomorrow – FQ foodcourt again, Flame Tree BBQ lunch and Cheesecake Factory dinner. Plus our first visit too Ghirardellis.

I have to say that we didn't 'get' the zebra domes either. Actually our whole exerience at Boma was just so-so. We did enjoy some of the foods but our server may have been the same as yours! We just felt ignored the whole time we were there. I didn't know at the time, but DH had told them that we were celebrating my birthday and even though it was on the reservation when he checked us in, the server never mentioned it. It was a bit of a letdown for DH at the time (and for me after when I realized what had happened).

LOL! I think I may need to clarify my stance on "chains". When it comes to picking up breakfast and other groceries, going to a chain like Wal-Mart isn't what burns my biscuits.
Imagine, if you will, I went to England, and I decided that I wanted to eat at McDonald's instead of trying the "local flavor" that isn't a chain restaurant. I guess that's how I feel about Domino's and KFC. ;)
However, I guess it's a matter of "We don't have anything like it where I'm from, so for us it's a treat!" So I guess I have to relax my views on that. :)
Anyway, the Chefs de France lunch looked great to me! I've done the French Menu lunch (which had been the soup, the croque monsieur, and creme brulée for dessert). I guess they don't have that lunch combo on the menu anymore.
And Boma! My favorite part....SOUP. I love their soups, but I see you didn't try any of them. ;) I agree about the watermelon rind salad. Not my cup of tea. And I think the zebra domes used to be different than they are now. Maybe that's the problem.
I've always wanted to try the Norway schoolbread...but never after eating a meal at Boma! :rotfl2:
 Maybe I'll buy some to share in October with Brenda and Jay.

Thanks for the review of Boma, we loved breakfast there so much we made sure to book dinner for our Oct trip plus we are staying at the AKL so we would be fools not to go!
So glad to hear they have falafel on the buffet, I just discovered it at the Tangierine Cafe last month and LOVE IT!
We dont get Zebra Domes either, we had them at Mara CS and they were eh but I am still going to give them a second try at Boma

I have to say, that Dominoes Pizza was HUGE! We don't have Dominoes around here, so I don't know if that's normal, but that's massive!

I suppose the cookie bar was a bit like tiffin, but slightly less chocolately, in exchange for more oats!!! What I wouldn't do for one right now. Is anything worse than the post holiday diet?! We are staying at FQ again next year I have just decided- I need to be close to it. I reckon you will love it, it was so peaceful.

I'm in the middle of making a new batch right now, different to last years and I forgot how loooong they take to make  The main reason I like to make them is because it gets me in the Disney mood! And yes, I put the cookie on them  It sounds right up my street, I love oaty things... flapjacks, hobnobs... mmm!!
Schoolbread is good, huh?! I could so go for a Schoolbread right now. DBF hates coconut so I had to eat mine all on my own - it's a hard job but someone's gotta do it :teeth:
Looking forward to the rest!

Good lord...Chefs de France, Boma, Schoolbread....
where do I start?:rotfl2:
I just ate a cheesburger for dinner...I feel pitiful.;)
Let me say, thank you for reviewing Boma. Everyone raves about it so I do have dinner booked for us there this year. And I'll really excited to try it, now I know there will be a little something for everyone in my family.:thumbsup2
And I have seriously debated whether or not to try schoolbread...I mean, I like coconut, but I thought what's the big deal...until you described it so artfully and it sounds yummy!!! ::yes::

You have to forgive me Cheesecake Fatory then, because we have NONE in England! Its disgraceful!!!
I'm giving you a Free Pass when it comes to Cheesecake Factory. I've got one of those 5 minutes from home...and I still rarely go there. For me, it's also a treat!
Oh I didn't see soups - I blame the waiter!!!
Yes, not a very good server. There's usually a pod with about 5 soups in it. And the menu rotates on a 3 day schedule, which means you could have eaten there 3 nights in a row and gotten different menu rotations. ;)
And rest assured - the do still have the french menu but -get this - we were being good!!!!!!:rotfl:

Loving your review but then the British sense of humour always cracks me up. Living in Canada, we get a lot of British comedy shows and they are my favorites. I agree about the Zebra Domes. The texture and taste were just off for me, yet I thought the Watermelon Rind salad was actually better than it sounded.
BTW, you can always request recipes for Disney food (like those Magic Cookie Bars at POR) by writing guest.mail@disneyonline.com. For anyone who gets recipes, remember to share them with the Disboard Community at the Disney Recipe Exchange (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1575103). (Had to get that in , LOL). ;)

Tuesday 13th May
Breakfast in room again, beignets excellent again!
We were having a counter service lunch today and knew to get there early, but we were starving by 10.30 so decided to share an icecream (well it was my idea to share. TG not so happy about that). We got a waffle cone from Dinobite with choc and vanilla swirl in it – very nice!
Off to Flame Tree BBQ about 11.45. For months I have been hearing about how these are the best ribs at Disney – I couldn’t wait!! So I ordered the rib, baked beans and corn muffin platter. TG took my advice (instructions) and had the same thing – he also ordered a side of fries.
There were only a couple of tables left at that time (and I had thought we were so early and organised!) so we were forced to sit with a couple of the worlds tallest birds with the worlds biggest beaks. I am scared of birds (actually it’s the beaks I don’t like) so TG spent most of lunch trying to swoosh them away  – if you were there that day I was the hysterical one in the corner
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2245-1.jpg
The beans were as gross as everyone said so I was thankful for a couple of fries! More mush than beans – no shape left to them whatsoever. I was raring to go on the cornbread after my first try at Boma last night, and this was excellent – really moist and loads of it. The ribs . . . I don’t want to say it. I didn’t really like them – I’m sorry. The rub was a lovely flavour and nice for a chance instead of sauce, but I found the actual ribs gristly and hard to get the meat off the bone with the plastic knives and forks! TG is completely the opposite of me though - he has emailed me his review over from his work desk:-
“I would give that 7/10, nice ribs, beans were inedible, fries were good, bread not so good”
See – so it could have been just me. To be fair I generally only eat baby backs, so maybe this was how St Louis ribs are? (He is wrong on the lovely cornbread though!!)
I give it 6/10. I wouldn’t eat there again, but would buy a corn muffin on the way past!!
Late afternoon we went for our first Ghirardellis visit of the trip. This re-opened a couple of days before we arrived, to our relief. It was the same menu as usual for this visit, but then they changed the menu the next day!
I knew what I was having – my usual brownie sundae. TG went for the cookie bottom sundae (cookie in bottom of glass and all the usual gunk on top of it). My sundae was good (vanilla icecream, hot fudge sauce and cream – yummo) but the brownie part seemed a little . . . wet! I don’t know how else to describe it!! Usually brownies are dry yet gooey, but this just seemed missing something from other years. Not bad though. I still give it 8/10. TG gives his 7/10!
Brownie left,cookie right

Dinner was at one of our faves, Cheesecake Factory. We discovered this last year in Vegas and went 3 times in a week (when we give our love we give it with our whole hearts). Got there about 7.30ish, loads of people waiting outside but they had a table for 2 ready so we went straight in! Yey! Had a lovely server, efficient and friendly – wish I had made a note of her name! Now here we made a fatal, amateur mistake. We learned last year never to have an appetizer here as portions are so big that you stand no chance of a dessert (and what’s the point of going here without a dessert?!). But then we saw the sliders . . . we like sliders. So we ordered them (to share). Then I ordered the Factory burger which I loved last year and TG ordered the Tuns of Fun double burger.
Yup – we managed to order burgers for our appetisers and entrée!!!! Doh!
The sliders were lovely, tender and moist. I had one, I’m guessing we didn’t leave any so TG must have had 3!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2270-1.jpg
Burgers – I ordered the wrong thing!!! I think it was the classic burger I had last year in retrospect, this "factory" burger was long rather than round. The burger was super nice, but it was in really crusty bread rather than a soft roll, which filled me up super quick! Don’t get me wrong, it was good bread, but sooooooooooo filling. I don’t often eat fries (I am a mash girl) but I have been saying for a year that CCF do the world best fries and I stand by it – lovely! Just cooked to perfection!
Mine is at the front, and would you look at the size of his burger!!:-
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2276-1.jpg
TG loved his – “10/10 for all, an excellent meal”. And we are unanimous!
We were stuffed, we had both left some burger, but I was darned if we were going to leave here without some cheesecake! Such a big dessert menu but after much thinking TG went for the snickers cheesecake and I went for the coconut one. It arrived and looked so good. We both just groaned, clutched our tums and had to ask for To-Go boxes – defeated at last!!!!!!!!!! Here are the piccies of them in our room – they didn’t travel too well!!
Coconut left, snickers right:-
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2397-1.jpg
We sampled them the next day and they were very nice, really thick topping – just wish we could have had them with the meal! 10/10 from me as well – good quality food, excellent service, loads of menu choices for all three courses. (Side note, just to prove it is impossible to manage three courses here, our friends went here a couple of nights after us on our recommendation, stuffed 3 courses, and my poor friend had to go throw up in the toilets there!! Apparently the strawberry cheesecake isn’t so tasty coming the other way!!!. They also give it 10/10 apart from that!!!!)
That was it for today!
Up very soon, POR foodcourt, MK popcorn, Main St Bakery, Plaza Lunch, Crystal Palace dinner.

They are genius!!!!!! If you ask Eeyore' tailfinder I'm sure she will send you the template :goodvibes . . . you print out and laminate a card for each day of your stay and take the relevant card to the park with you. You have on it times of ADR's, notes of things you don't want to miss (my notes were mostly food!) rides you want to go on, park times, all sorts of stuff that make your day go smoothly! TG mocked me so much when I was making them, but he was sold by day 2!!

I know that my family will love Disney so much I am already planning next year's trip. Those cards you guys are talking about sound very helpful. I LOVE organization! They don't have them here in Australia either, so any time we plan a trip to the USA, Cheesecake Factory is first on our list! Yum!!

Wednesday 14th May
ALERT – a lot of food coming up!!!!
We love Krispy Kreme donuts and don’t have any close at home so they are a treat when we get our hands on them. We decided we were going to have a Krispy Kreme breakfast today, so yesterday we went to the KK shop on 192 to buy them. (We had already bought 2 one night from the Hess Station to try, and they were a bit dry so we were looking forward to some good ones).
The man “serving” us was SO rude. He kept asking how he could help, then whenever I started to speak he put his finger right in my face to sshhhh me!!! After a few minutes we finally twigged that he had an earpiece in and he was taking orders from the drive-through and not speaking to us at all!!!! Now its funny, but I was fuming! :furious:
This is the selection:-
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2268-1.jpg
We got a box of 12, and 11 went in the trash - the worst KK’s I have had in my life. The donuts were so overcooked and tasteless. TG agrees “-5/10 - overcooked and shoddy premises. Disappointing!” I would give them a 2/10. Avoid!:(
So, to get to the point, no KK’s for breakfast! We took an early morning march to PO Riverside foodcourt to get some air and got a Cinammon bun to share, instead of beignets. This was OK, a little dry – it was no Cinnabbon! TG gives it 7/10. I’m a 6/10. Sorry, didn't have the camera as I had no make-up on, couldn't risk TG getting a sneaky shot of me!
As we only had a small breakfast we treated ourselves to some MK popcorn nice and early (think it was before 10am!!!). This was as good as I remember. Hot and really buttery – I just love this! I ate most of it while TG was on space mountain – ha, you snooze you lose Mister! TG 8/10. I’m a 9 (it loses a point because it blew over while I was trying to take a picture and I lost all the top layer which annoyed me!).
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2311-1.jpg
Lunch was 12 at the Plaza, MK, somewhere else we have never been. I have been looking forward to going here since I saw a really good review of it on Allears ages ago. We got seated straight away – it was already packed at that time. It’s a really nice setting, quite peaceful and quaint. Our server was good, not especially friendly, but efficient so can’t ask for more! I ordered the Reuban (always wanted to try one) and TG ordered the Club. I had fries with mine and he had potato salad. Then when it arrived we split everything. We also had a strawberry milkshake to share – this was divine!! :lovestruc Really thick, loads of strawberries and it went on forever. We got a full 2nd glass out of the shaker!
Milkshake
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2333-1.jpg
I thought the reuban was really good, lots of meat, though the bread was only a mili-second from being burnt!!! The club was OK, fries were good, and I really loved the potato salad, TG - reuben - 6/10, club, 8/10 milkshake - 9/10 . I remember he wolfed most of the fries down, and wasn’t keen on the potato salad. I give it a 9/10 and would definitely return for another lunch. Really nice place to sit down for an hour. In fact, we were already booked for another lunch later in the trip, but would we make it?!
Reuban left of plate, club on the right
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2334-1.jpg
We decided to go next door to the bakery for dessert. You need to be prepared for shock at the size of our tray. I had to pretend to the server that we had a couple of kids outside waiting for food, to make us seem a bit less piggy.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2336-1.jpg
Let me explain!!!! The choc cake was dessert for TG. The ice-cream cookie sandwich for me, the rice crispie treat was just because we had never had one, and the krispy kremes were to try again for breakfast the next day - who knew you could get KK’s in the MK?! Not us!! That would have saved a bit of gas and a lot of bad mood yesterday!! TG gives the cake 9/10 – it looked really moist but there was no way I could try it. Ice-cream cookie sandwich – TG has always had these on our previous trips and I’ve never tried it – it wasn’t until everyone on here recommended it that I decided to give it a go, (much to his annoyance for not believing him)! I had the oatmeal and raison cookies and a massive splodge of ice-cream. OMG SO GOOD. I could only manage half of it but it was lovely. The cookies were so ooey gooey and the ice-cream moistened them up even more – what a wonderful combination!!! 10/10! :lovestruc :lovestruc
I wouldn’t usually post such a grim piccie of me, but it’s to show you just how big this mama is!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2337-1.jpg
Onto dinner and our favourite The Crystal Palace! We go here once each trip because we love the characters so much, and we got a little out of control with how much we eat!! This is now one of the few places you can still get the lovely pink lemonade!! I love that stuff! In half the places I asked for it they told me that have low-sugar lemonade instead now! I want my pink princess lemonade back! I wore an Eeyore T-shirt this time and Eeyore made a real fuss – little tip if you are also a fan!
Me and my fave men!! :yay:
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2406-1.jpg
The food.- to start I had a tomato and mozzarella salad and Mediterranean salad – liked both of them very much. TG had a roll and bit of salad.
Appetizers and the hard to find pink lemonade!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2405-1.jpg
Entrée’s- I remembered how good the mash was and it didn’t disappoint – huge splodge of that, some prime rib, carrot, a bit of pork. All very nice, nothing outstanding but nothing bad. I also tried the cornbread stuffing – as a new cornbread expert I can advise you that this was the worst of the trip!! It was soggy!! TG had mash, broccoli, carrot and lots of chicken.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2407-1.jpg
My second plate consisted of much more mash, broccoli (I like to be healthy!) turkey and cranberry sauce – don’t know what else was mixed in with the cranberries but it was a bit funny. I also bravely tried some fish – mahi-mahi I think?? It was fishy. We don’t like fish much - unless its battered and deep fried! TG’s second plate was mash, pizza and more rolls!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2413-2.jpg
Onto my favourite part – thank goodness the coconut flan was still here. I have been dreaming of this for two years. I adore it. “Love coconut, love wibbly wobbly flan, helloooo” to paraphrase from dear Stacey (“love Aerosmith, love rollarcoasters, hellooooooo”, that girl is so the reason I stay on-site!!). This is soooo good, really smooth and creamy 10/10. As you can see I had two slices straight up!!!! I only tried a corner of the choc cake – it was nice enough but not a patch on my beloved coconut. TG had ice-cream first, then something else but I don’t know what because I was in a sugar coma by then. :woohoo:
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2418-1.jpg
So do you know what happened next? Yup. TG announced he was going up for another look round. I made him get me a THIRD slice of that coconut heaven and I pretty much ate all of it! How is that for gluttony?!!!! It was as good as the first 2 slices but I felt so unwell I had lean on TG all through Wishes. We both give this restaurant 9/10. Great character interaction, gorgeous place, nice food. At this point the little girl at the next table apparently decided I was a character and came over and sat on my lap - if my tummy was resembling Pooh’s then it was time to leave! :rolleyes1
We needed a few days off buffets! :rotfl2:
Up next, another POFQ breakfast, Typhoon Lagoon Mini-Donuts, Earl of Sandwich, POR foodcourt (the return of the magic cookie bar), Whispering Canyon Café.

Flame Tree- I am so not a ribs girl. I ordered the puled pork sandwhich and loved it. I will have another this trip. (hear that DH?)
Crystal Palace is one of my fav spots. I LOVE everyone in the Hundred Acre Wood (it is ok for a grown woman to say that right?). I only wish Rabbit and Owl were there too.
Yum yum. Gotta eat lunch now.

First, as I stated, being 5 minutes from a Cheesecake Factory, I still rarely go there. But I do have The Plan when I do. Because their portions are so huge, I've split my meal with someone in order to have my cheesecake (and eat it, too!)
I'm still amazed how you can put down so much food in such a tiny person. I might sponsor you for one of those eating contests. Usually the skinny Japanese guy wins, but my money's on the skinny Brit. ;)

I'm really not a rib girl, so not liking the AK ribs was no skin off my back!
I'd rather have a bagel than a KK doughnut ANYDAY.
That icecream sandwich looked DIVINE!
Boma looked interesting... I am trying to work up the courage to go on our next trip... Whenever that will be.
So far, I am loving EVERYTHING you have to say. Keep up the GREAT (fast) work and I will keep reading and salivating!!

Your reviews are great! Sitting here drooling while reading! We love the cheesecake factory but we can't pass up the avocado eggrolls so it's cheesecake to go for us! Looking forward to more.

Oh wow, that food looks so good! We have never tried the Cheesecake Factory, don't know why, I love cheesecake! Must add it to the (ever expanding) list.
Laur's princess:
Have a look at their dessert menu online - so many cheesecakes you won't know where to start!!!
Late to the bandwagon, but now subscribing. I am a tea drinker also, and though not from across the pond, I should have been. I am having a blast reading your reviews and lingering over the pics. But, come on... you must have some serious metabolism secret... you eat all that and stay that size???? What a great couple you are... thanks for all your hard work on the reviews.
pixiedust:
Well if you ever want to house swap and live here let me know . . . I would love to live nearer to the mouse!!!! I am so working on TG to emigrte! :goodvibes
And as for the metabolism, we're just dead dull at home, you wouldn't recognise us! We have treats at the weekend but apart from that we exercise 4 or 5 times a week, walk our 2 dogs every day, and cook all our meals from scratch. I honestly don't eat that badly all of the time!! Or so I say . . .!!;)

I only wish Rabbit and Owl were there too.
.
Well if Yak and Yeti doesn't start getting better reviews I will try that sandwich next year, thanks!! :goodvibes
It is SO OK to love the Pooh characters! I wanted Eeyore at my wedding but Disney don't allow it so had to "settle" for Mickey!
And don't forget Baby Roo and Heffalump!! We need more characters!!!

Just to let you know about the Rueben sandwich's bread--the brown parts are pumpernickle bread swirled with the regular rye bread. A lot of ruebens are made either with rye bread, pumpernickle bread, or a bread that has those two flavors swirled. So from the picture, it doesn't look burnt, just normal--but I could of been wrong, it wasn't me who had the sandwich!! :)

"I like to be healthy." :rotfl: Seriously, though, I get that you actually have healthy habits at home.
Up very soon, POR foodcourt, MK popcorn, Main St Bakery, Plaza Lunch, Crystal Palace dinner.[/QUOTE]

You are correct. Cheesecake Factory is leaving or has left DisneyQuest. Their contract was up and they didn't or were not renew. I heard speculation they joined the DisneyQuest venture on the premise that there would be multiple DisneyQuests across the country. That didn't happen, so no more CCF on property.

Feel welcome to visit me in Birmingham, Alabama- (1.5 hour flight to the mouse or about a 10 hour drive)
We have a Cheesecake Factory- very delicious
and a Krispy Kreme that has those warm, melt in your mouth doughnuts you were dreaming about. The ones that are light as air and collapse in to sugary goodness in your mouth. The secret is to go in when you see the "Hot Now" sign on, that means they have just made a fresh batch. I have to drive by KK on my way home from work each morning (I work 11pm to 7am) and I think that KK has a giant magnet on their sign because my car keeps turning in- either there or Panera Bread- another wonderful pastry shop.
Enjoying your reviews. Thanks a bunch.

So we were planning to go to Earl of Sandwich today and sample one of the breakfast sandwiches but we couldn’t get out of bed so we did the usual, more Beignets , cereal and fruit! All good again – didn’t taste a beignet I wouldn’t marry all trip. :thumbsup2
We spent the morning at Typhoon Lagoon and after exhausting ourselves floating on the lazy river for 2 hours we decided we needed a treat! Off to our old favourites, the mini cinnamon donut hut! We were very good and just ordered 6 to share. They were lovely, light, warm soft – so good. BUT, they no longer come with cinnamon sugar on, just normal sugar. They are still the best donuts ever (take note Krispy Kreme) but the cinnamon sugar really made them stand out from other donuts before. TG 8/10, me 9/10. Will still defo have them again.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2455-1-1.jpg
Earl of Sandwich for lunch. After being slightly disappointed with his Earls Club last week TG shocked the life out of me by ordering something different (he is not a man for change!). He went for the Full Montague (roast beef and turkey with cheddar and Swiss cheese, romaine lettuce, tomato and mustard sauce). I went for my 2nd fave sandwich – the Beef n Blue. TG loved his – 9/10. Me . . .not so much. Did it always have salad in it?! I remember it as being like the Original, apart from blue cheese instead of horseradish. This had beef (lots of it) lettuce, tomato and just a few dollops of blue cheese. I was disappointed. Maybe I just changed this in my mind over the past two years, but I remember loving it and now I probably wouldn’t order it again. 6/10 though for good bread and lots of beef! And look at that disgusting bright cupcake thing – he got that instead of my lovely brownie!!!! I was not happy!!!!!!! He says it was lovely and soft but I refused to eat any so can’t comment!!:(
Beef N Blue front,Full Montague at back
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2464-1-1.jpg
TG fancied an icecream so we popped to Ghiradellis and he got a mint-choc chip in a waffle cone. This was actually superb - loads of really creamy icecream and a thick cone with chocolate round it!! I ended up eating loads of it! Shocker!! :rotfl2: 9/10!
Watch out, the tongue is back . . . and this time its green!!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2468-1-1.jpg
Riverside foodcourt. We sat by the pool all afternoon and TG announced he was going in for an ice-cream and did I want one . . . hmmm ice-cream or MAGIC COOKIE BAR?! No contest is there!? :confused3 I did take another photo of it, but I have a bikini on and we were now at the stage of the vacation where it hurt to hold my tummy in, so sadly I can’t post it. It was as good as before 10/10. I think I slightly preferred the first one, because having it chilled from the fridge in our room rather than melting round the pool and dripping into my belly button was slightly preferable! TG had a strawberry icecream which he gives 7/10.
Dinner tonight was at Whispering Canyon Café somewhere else we had never been before. I was all prepared, I made TG wear his Universal t-shirt, and when we arrived asked to be seated in the main area. Soooo wish I hadn’t!!!! We waited about 20 mins past our ADR time to be seated, and in that time could hear all the torture being inflicted upon people in the restaurant, which got us a bit panicky. By the time we got in there they were making a poor lady ride round the room on a horse thing. I don’t know what happened . . . . we were looking forward to tonight, we knew that sorts of things they do, but by the time we got in there we just weren’t in the mood for it!! TG was giving me daggers for making him wear the t-shirt!!
It started off badly with a waiter coming over to tell us off for not joining in the singing – we had literally just that second sat down! We were really thirsty from the long wait, but we didn’t see our waiter for a good 5 mins. Tony drank his drink in about 5 seconds flat he was so thirsty, so I hoped he would get the large glass brought out. The waiter commented on how fast he had drunk it but didn’t bring out a large glass next time – in fact it took about 15 mins to get a replacement drink at all! He also commented on his t-shirt but again didn’t do anything – I think he had sensed we weren’t in our perkiest moods!! After that we relaxed a bit and joined in with other people’s pain!
Onto food – corn bread came out to start, with butter. This was my first taste of it with butter and it was very good! I love this cornbread stuff!! Think I ate most of the plate of it!
TG ordered the cheese, sausage and cracker plate to start. I really wanted a skillet but this didn’t come with wings, and I have to have wings if they are on a menu, so I ordered those. We both had St Louis ribs for our entrée. The wings were excellent. TG didn’t much enjoy his - he said it was too dry and needed something to moisten it up. There was BBQ sauce, but we couldn’t quite see how that went with cheese! He didn’t eat much of this.
Cheese / sausage plate

Wings
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2496-1-1.jpg
Now this annoyed me!!!!!!! The entrees came out about 5 mins after our appetisers, so sat there getting cold while we were still eating. I hate that!! Our waiter did come over and ask if we wanted them taken back in the kitchen, but baring in mind where we were we didn’t dare make a fuss!!!! The ribs were Ok, a little dry and hard to get the meat off . . . I think I am a babyback snob to be honest! TG said the same. The mash was excellent – I love mash! I asked for coleslaw instead of whatever the veg was (green beans?) and he brought me a couple of pots of this out – this was as far as he went with having fun with us!!
Ribs, mash, coleslaw. You can see (what's left!) of the cornbread as well.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2497-1-1.jpg
Now this is one of the few places where I remember our waiters name, but I can’t name him for the following reason . . . at this point we were full (darn cornbread overload) so said we wouldn’t have dessert . . . he asked if we could keep a secret and I quite honestly told him we can’t. He didn’t seem to believe us though :rotfl: and went and got us 2 free desserts! Is this something they normally do here? I don’t like to name him in case he gets in trouble! He got TG the Kahula flavoured chocolate cake and me the Smore cheesecake. I can honestly say this is one of the best cheesecakes of my life, and not just because it was free! It was really creamy, had a graham cracker base, and lots of marshmallows on top. I very nearly ate it all and I was stuffed before I started! Inexplicably I forgot to take a photo of this!! It was quieter in the restaurant by then, and the waiter came over and had a nice long chat with us – he was really nice and I left the place feeling a lot better about it than when we arrived! I doubt we would return though, the stress is too much – its probably more fun in a large group!!! TG is “5/10 - too stressful and meal mediocre”. I would give a 7 for the wings, cheesecake and cornbread! We left a huge tip so we didn’t get harassed on the way out – sometimes you just gotta buy your freedom!!!
That was all we ate today, impressed!?
Coming soon . . . Golden Corrall breakfast, KFC lunch, House of Blues dinner, Mickey bar, Cookes of Dublin snack, and another goofy snack!.

LOL - another great installment, but I'm going to have to call you *out* on believing that there could be better donuts in the WORLD than Krispy Kreme. Here in Atlanta, you could be lynched for making such a statement - LOL! We were planning on doing Blizzard Beach this time, but I might just have to check out TL instead just to sample the "best donuts ever." :rotfl2:
Also, I just have to say that Whispering Canyon is kind of my "eh" ADR. DH really wants to go because he thinks that the hijinks will be hysterical, but I'm the type of gal who is not into hijinks at meals. I work for County Council! If we do work for the same people then I would like to take back that little "joke" about me writing these reports while I'm at work . . . :rotfl2:
We spend hours wondering round the Disney store pretending we are back in Florida!!!!!
I do work for the County Council at the Forum library. Say hi, if you ever see me. I'm the only American working there. Don't worry your 'joke' is safe with me. :rotfl: My hubby and me do the same thing at the Disney store, unless my friend's husband is working because he thinks I'm nuts for liking Disney more than him and when I don't even work there. :rolleyes1

Friday 16th May.
Off to Busch Gardens today so we needed a big breakfast to get us on our way. Where better than Golden Corral – unlimited food and drink from the world’s biggest buffet (probably!) for about $8 each! :thumbsup2
I won’t waste much time reviewing this – if you’re American you probably have one near you and if you’re British just know that we have NOTHING like this at home and get yourself there!! :goodvibes
I will post all the pictures though.
Nice healthy fruit to start :rolleyes1
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2505-1.jpg
My plate - potatoes, biscuit & gravy (very good) bacon (pretty good) sausage patty (too greasy!)
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2506-1.jpg
Front plate - my waffle and pancake (nice but waffles should have mickey heads in them!)
TG had 2 plates at the back -one with fried eggs, the other with toast, bacon, chicken tenders, sausage and french toast! He had also had some pancakes prior to this plate!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2507-1.jpg
Me, chocolate chessboard (i think that was the name! Anyway it was very nice chocolate mousse,) jello, and coconut cream pie (which I couldn't taste any coconut in so was basically a pile of cream and bananas. I wasn't complaining!)
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2509-1.jpg
Yes, that’s right, chocolate for breakfast and I have no regrets - it was goooooooooooood!!
TG - carrot cake, choc chess board, jello
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2510-1.jpg
All this from people who aren't big on breakfast!! :rotfl2:
Everything was nice, there is nothing bad here and nothing exceptional, but for the price it can’t be beat! It is a solid 8/10 from me, 7/10 for TG.
I have no food to review from Busch Gardens as we left after 45 mins – Toto, we sure knew we weren’t in Disney anymore! We got back to Disney and decided to get a KFC . . . should have just eaten in the POFQ foodcourt! This was not good food! We went for the drumstick and thighs bucket as conveniently I like drumsticks and TG likes thighs! I can only feel sorry for the poor chickens these came off, as they were obviously anorexic! Never have I seen drumsticks with so little meat on them and so badly dried out! And get this – no fries in the whole shop – had to have dried-out wedges or nothing. All in all not recommended. Orlando – you let us down bad on our favourites – Dominos, Krispy Kremes and KFC. Time to get some more Disney back into our diets!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2530-1.jpg
Popped to AK for the Nemo show and TG had an icecream Mickey head thing – TG gives it 8/10. I was feeling too gross from the KFC to try it.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2531-1.jpg
Then we went to Goofy’s to have some more snacks made up! This was my fave one of the trip – in fact it’s so good I repeat it later! This was marshmallows, covered in milk chocolate, smothered in choc chips and reeces pieces, and drizzled in caramel. If you are a chocolate fan I can recommend going for the choc chips as they set to form a really thick layer of chocolate!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2581-1.jpg
TG had a giant oreo cookie in milk chocolate, with m&ms and reeses, and drizzled in caramel. We had these after our dinner tonight – mine was 10/10, TG 9/10.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2590-1.jpg
Dinner tonight was meant to be Bongo’s at DTD. I had noticed there are hardly ever any reviews of this place and though I would make it my duty to review it. But Bongo’s made a fatal mistake . . . they don’t take ADR’s. This gave me time to consider whether I really wanted to go here. . . a glance it my trusty Passporter told me to change – the review was not great! So we booked House of Blues the day before. An excellent decision – this was hands down one of the best meals of the trip. I ordered the ribs but instead of sweet potato mash I subbed for normal mash, and instead of the green beans (yuk) I had asparagus. Everything was perfect - mash was good quality, asparagus was dripping in butter (something I never dare do at home!) and the ribs fell off the bone. TG went for a pepperoni pizza. We ordered a side of cornbread (of course!) to go with it. So, so far I have had African cornbread, muffin cornbread, gross stuffing cornbread, this one was a first – ginger cornbread!! The menu didn’t mention the ginger! It was lovely and I ate loads of it, but I couldn’t help feel naughty all the way through, as if I was eating my dessert along with my entrée! Lovely though, hot, moist and oh so light! The maple butter with it was just scrummylicious. I could have eaten this meal every night of the trip as long as they kept on letting me get rid of the green beans!! I am a 10/10. TG is an 8 (should have had the ribs!).
Ribs front, pizza back, cornbread on right
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2566-1.jpg
And just to show how good it was, plate and bones licked clean:rotfl:
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2569-1.jpg
We didn’t have dessert here as we had a plan – Doh Bar!! Yup off we went to Cookes of Dublin to treat ourselves to a deep fried snickers!!! We decided to share one as we had those goofy snacks back in the room.
They cooked it fresh while you wait, which took about 5 mins. Because it was fresh it was boiling hot to try eat, annoyingly so. We left it a few minutes then attempted it again. . . hmm. It was OK. Very sickly and very hard to eat, because as it is all melted the stick just kept breaking through the batter – in the end we found it easier to eat without the stick. I probably wouldn’t have one again, and give it a 6.5/10 – I’d rather just have a normal snickers. TG gave it an 8 and ate most of it! I think if I’d been patient enough to let it cool down more I would have enjoyed it a bit more! Serves me right for being an oinker!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2575-1.jpg
Hard to eat!

Um, WOW; fried Snickers, like the candy bar, Snickers?!? Here in the South, deep fried Twinkies were all the rage a few years ago - - I wonder if the Snickers is an off-shoot?
Anyway, another great review - - I can't wait to make my own Goofy candy creations - yours looked to die for!

Oh what do you watch? Do you get Vicar of Dibley? That still creases me! Am so going to get the recipe cheers!
Finally how some time to catch up on your thread. I'm leaving for Trinidad/Tobago and Guyana in one week so I'm trying to whittle down my "to do" list. I lived near a British army bases for the 9 years I was in Germany so always listen to "The Archers" on Naafi radio. I went to London (among other places in England) every chance I could get and it's still one of my favorite cities in the world. When I moved back to Canada I had to keep getting my British fix so started watching Coronation Street, East Enders and Emmerdale. The latter 2 series were cancelled here so it's only Corrie now.
BTW, I felt the same way about the Zebra Domes and the Flame Tree Ribs. What was funny was that I had made many of the Boma (and other) dishes at home and was looking forward to comparing them to the " real and professional" versions. The truth was, the things I made at home were often much better than what was served at the restaurants. IE. the Mulva Cake recipe is actually pretty good but the Mulva Cakes on the Boma buffet tasted like cold, hard hockey pucks. I've also made the Flame Tree Ribs at home and use a better quality rib - and the rub and BBQ sauce taste wonderful.
If you want to make the coconut flan from Crystal Palace the recipe is on our exchange (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1575103)- I've made it and it's really good. Tonight I made the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli from California Grill and it was fabulous - just the way I remembered it from the restaurant.
Thanks for a wonderful thread and great pictures! Hope you get that cookie recipe. If you get a chance, could you perhaps request the S'mores Cheescake recipe as well? I'd love to try that at home as I was too full to consider it at WCC - but then, I had the bottomless milkshake and skillet.

Saturday 17th May
I’ll whizz through Discovery Cove just in case anyone is interested. The photos are on the waterproof camera so will post them once I get it developed! Breakfast was OK, cereal, fruit and danishes. Stick with the fruit and cereal – the danishes were not worth the calories! Very dry!
Lunch – we came here before in 2003. There is now a bigger choice and – more importantly – you can have as much as you like!! Before they had someone at the end of the counter to check that you only came in once and to check you only had two things (so entrée plus either salad, fruit or dessert). This was much better- unlimited! I had a caesar salad, a bacon and cheese burger, and key lime pie. TG had lots!!! He had a hot dog plus chicken strippers, strawberries, a giant cupcake and some choc cake. It was all nice actually, the service left a little to be desired (you so know when you have left Disney!). I love Key Lime pie (never had it before) its like the superb coconut flan at Crystal Palace, without the coconut! Both give 8/10.
Right onto Trails End. Never been here before. Booked it for three reasons. Ribs. Chilli. Fried chicken. All available on a buffet! This sounded too good to be true! :)
Now I’m sorry to sound like a frightful snob but we got here and almost left before we went in. :goodvibes We felt like we had walked into the Beverly Hillbillies before they struck gold!! I know, its meant to look like that, but we were still worried! But the lure of the ribs won so in we went. Waited about 10 mins past our ADR time to be seated.
Once we got in we liked it very much! We had a very good server, quick and efficient. There is a good choice of food, not as much as somewhere like Chef Mickey’s but still plenty, and all different food to the other buffets.
We started with a bowl of chilli each. Really good- thick and meaty and not too hot. There were little packs of crackers with it which we crumbled into the chilli (we had never had crackers with chilli before, but when in Rome . . .! It is an excellent idea! Yummo!!).
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2592-1.jpg
Entrees – I had fried chicken (better than KFC but not brill), loads of mash (lovely), ribs (nice but they BBQ sauce dish was empty) seasoned wedges, which were good, pasta in pesto, and carrot. TG had pretty much the same, along with some big chunks of sausage, and a different type of pasta.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2593-1.jpg
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2594-1.jpg
There was a fresh carving station which we were going to have on our next plate, but the chilli was so good we had another bowl of that each instead!
Desserts – I though I had read before somewhere that desserts are charged separately here but that wasn’t the case (Maybe I imagined that)! I headed over to the dessert counter and found some cornbread hidden away so ate that with my desserts (not the best I have had but bearable)! Also had some brownies (very nice) and a rice crispy square (like stale, soggy cardboard, yuk!).
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2595-1.jpg
TG is 9/10, I am 8.5/10! Would definitely go back, nice comforting food, and a bargain price – think it was only $17 each!:thumbsup2
Side note – maybe its not wise to have as much chilli as we did – TG was up with indigestion all night so we had to cancel our breakfast at Boma the next morning!!!
Side note 2 - we had chilli for dinner last night and TG surprised me by buying little bowls like we had here, and crackers, and serving it up like that! It cheered up the post holiday blues for a while! What an angel!! :lovestruc
Up tomorrow, POFQ breakfast, Earl of Sandwich lunch, 50’s Prime Time dinner.

I adore your report. I started reading it last night when DH said "You're not going to take pictures of our food are you?" Uhm, I guess not? :confused3 Just now DD5 asked where the pictures of the food are from. When I told her Disney, she asked if I was going to try all that food. I don't know but I'd like to try.
You should to venture over to Raleigh, NC sometime during the statefair in October. They have all sorts of deep fried concotions: candy bars, Coke, hamburgers, and my favorite Oreos. The oreos are all melty and yummy with the powdered sugar on top. Plus North Carolina is the original home of Krispy Kreme and Golden Corral.
DH and I have actually talked about going to live in the UK. His company was purchased by a London firm last year and I told him if he saw something good available there to go ahead and apply. He's seen a few things in Leeds and New Castle but he hasn't done anything yet.

WooHoo - Tim Horton's - thanks for giving it a mention. It's the number # 1doughnut/coffee/ fast food/ etc. chain in Canada. The stats speak for themselves. We have twice as many Tim Horton's as McDonald's and the store commands over 76% of the Canadian market for baked goods. Krispy Kreme never stood much of a chance in Canada against Tim Horton's.

In New Zealand we have potato and gravy at KFC. It is a container with mashed potato covered in gravy... very nice I was very disappointed when I got to the UK and discovered you don't have it. What do I have to dunk my chips in now????
We also get extra seasoning on our chips, it is a chicken type seasoning and it is also very nice.
Hubby doesn't like chicken on bones (so we NEVER share a starter of chicken wings) so we don't go to KFC very often which is probably good I guess.

Really enjoying your reviews!
Cornbread is big in the States, esp. the South. Here in Texas alot of the restaurants serve Jalapeno cornbread.
My DH's grandmother is from east Texas (think deep South) and used to melt butter in a cast iron skillet on the stovetop, put in the cornbread mixture and then pop it in the oven to cook. Gives it a nice, crispy bottom.

Ready for more?!
Sunday 18th May.
We were booked to have breckie at Boma today which I was really looking forward to, but if you read my last review you will know TG overdosed on chilli the night before and was up all night with indigestion so we had to cancel. Oh well, something new to try next year! So you guessed it – more beignets! Only this time as TG wasn’t very hungry I got to have two of them – yey! Look at those beauties!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2596-1.jpg
Shared a choc and vanilla swirl icecream in (of course!) a waffle cone at MGM! Nice! 8/10
I was still absolutely starving though and we had Lights, Motor Action to get through before lunch, so I bought a 2-pack of the mickey head coconut patties they sell in all the Disney shops. These were SO moist – if you like coconut they are the way to go! Sorry, too hungry to take picture!
Earl of Sandwich again for lunch! And we both tried something new, shock horror!
TG had an Ultimate Grilled Cheese (Combination of Swiss, Brie and Bleu Cheese with applewood bacon and Roma tomatoes), and I, following numerous recommendations on these boards, went for the All American (roast turkey, buttermilk ranch, cranberries, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato). We also had chips and a brownie to share! TG loved his! I tasted it and hated it, but then I hate brie so this wasn’t a surprise!! The All American was good!! Not quite up to the Original, but still a good 8/10. I just love that place! TG is a 8.5/10. :)

Dinner . . . 50’s Prime Time Café. Never been here before and sooooo looking forward to it! Our ADR was for 7pm. We waited, and waited, and waited. I kept telling TG that we couldn’t harass them as an ADR isn’t a guaranteed time blah blah blah, but eventually at 7.30 we were sick of seeing couples who had got there well after us get taken in so TG went up to the podium . . .
TG:- “Excuse me, just wondered if we can get an estimate of how long until we can be seated, as we don’t want to miss Fantasmic”
Hostess:- “Name please”
TG:- “G******”
Hostess:- “Hmmmmm . . . well you’ve already been seated”
TG:- “Hmmmm, No, we haven’t, we’re the ones been sitting right in front of you for 35 minutes”
Hostess:- “ Right . . . well this says you were seated at 7.05”
TG:- “Nope, here we are, no table and still starving . . . see that pale, shaking skelaton in the corner . . . that's my wife after not eating for a whole hour . . ."
You get the idea. The one time in my life I tried to be patient!! :rotfl2:
We were so happy to get seated we didn’t even get grumpy!! Mistakes happen so it was no biggie and we knew we could eat quick enough to still make Fantasmic, but the manager, who I think was called Eric, came straight over and told us we could have desserts for free! What made him think we were the sort of piggies who would eat dessert I don’t know, but it was a very nice thought of his!!! :rotfl:
We each ordered the fried cheese starter, I went for meatloaf and TG went for potroast, and then both had Smore’s for dessert. I subbed the green beans for corn. We also has a strawberry milkshake to share.
At first our server wasn’t really in part – I think she was aware we had been held up and thought we weren’t in the mood to be messed with. But we were remarkably perky and so she soon warmed up – she had me in stitches!!!!!!!! She told TG off for ordering the same meal and drink as me, really told him off for drinking his milkshake before the entrees came out, and then at the end when she caught me paying she slapped him SO hard for not paying. Honestly I thought I was going to have a heart attack I was laughing so loud. My drink was snorting out of my nose. I think she got the biggest tip I ever left (for beating up my husband, I’m nice huh!?!). In fact I was laughing so much I left the camera case and spare battery behind and we never did get them back – whoops!
Anyway onto the food. I could just summarise it as all perfect to be honest! This is now a place we will return to time and time again! The fried cheese appie was just perfect – ideal amount of the cheese and bread, and so gooey. I loved the meatloaf and TG adored his potroast (I have found the recipe of the potroast on these boards and am making it this weekend!). We’d never had either of these before so can’t compare them to anything but to us they were superb! (though TG didn’t like my meatloaf very much). Nice quality mash as well which is always a bonus! :thumbsup2

Then smores. . . never had these before either . . . what little pieces of heaven are these?! And so much of them – I was feeling very sick by the end! The manager came out again at this point to check we were OK, and when I explained we had never had smores before and how good they were he told me how to make them. But we don’t have graeme crackers in the UK so he went and got us a pack to bring home – how kind was that?! I loved this place!!!!!
Smores from all angles!

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2664-1.jpg
The only tiny disappointment was that the server read us out the desserts, rather than getting the little goggle things out for us to look through (what are they called?!), but again I think she was just trying to keep everything moving quick as we had been waiting at the start!
This is the first place we have both given 10/10 to I think! Really good fun but just a bit gentler (apart from TG’s slap!) than Whispering Canyon! I would definitely recommend it, but maybe chase your table up after 15 minutes instead of 30!!! :rotfl2:
Coming soon . . . Kona Café breakfast, Columbia Harbour House lunch, Ghiredellis snack, another goofy MYO snack, and Tony Romas dinner.

I only just found this today and I am loving it, you sound like you had a blast, and wonderful memories of my beloved POFQ, I can't wait to have 3 nights there in December, you are such a winky little thing, and so much food, well done to you, I am proud of you, you eat as much as I drink LOL (see trippie on the UK trip reports "Fancy A Magarita Love" and you will understand ... Cheesecake Factory looks yummy, I will definately be there in December. Can't wait for more x
I can't find your trippie do you have a link to it please?! You must try the Cheesecake Factory, so good if you fancy a night away from pixie dust!
Boma's will make you Deep-fried Oreos if you request it. I've seen several pictures posted on the DisBoards and we have a request out for the recipe from one of the Disboard members.
Oh what?!! Are you serious?! How did I miss that?! Will they do them for me for breakfast next year do you think?!!
In New Zealand we have potato and gravy at KFC. It is a container with mashed potato covered in gravy... very nice I was very disappointed when I got to the UK and discovered you don't have it. What do I have to dunk my chips in now????
Hubby doesn't like chicken on bones (so we NEVER share a starter of chicken wings) so we don't go to KFC very often which is probably good I guess.
Kirsten
I've said it before and I'll say it again we are so very depived here! That sounds so like something I would like to chow down on!
PS - I also never SHARE wings!!! :rotfl2:
Loving your reviews but where are you putting all that food? You're both so skinny :rotfl2:
BTW we live in Kent now but my DH's from Wymondham and I'm from Lowestoft :thumbsup2
Well hello! Both areas I know VERY well!!! In fact TG and I booked our very first Orlando holiday together in Lowestoft. It was New Years Day and he had terrible toothache but I made him drive all the way there to book as it was the only place open and I was so desperate to book!!!!!!! The travel agents was open but the dentist wasn't - unlucky!!!!!!!:rotfl:
Good heavens! How did I miss these reviews?:confused3 I'm only on page 4, but wanted to let you know I am totally enjoying myself. Now, back for more....
Ah thank you!:thumbsup2
Really enjoying your reviews!
Cornbread is big in the States, esp. the South. Here in Texas alot of the restaurants serve Jalapeno cornbread.
My DH's grandmother is from east Texas (think deep South) and used to melt butter in a cast iron skillet on the stovetop, put in the cornbread mixture and then pop it in the oven to cook. Gives it a nice, crispy bottom.
I became addicted to it this trip - can'r believe had never tried it before :confused3
The butter sounds lovely. You can always rely on a Granny to know how to fatten up an already naughty meal!!! :rotfl2:

Monday 19th May
At last . . . the day I have been waiting for, for months. The day I finally get to try Tonga Toast. For so long I have been drooling at pictures of something I had never tasted, never smelled, and now it was time to see if it lived upto my wildest dreams.
We had quite an early ADR, 7.40, and got seated straight away. As previously mentioned we are not great coffee drinkers but I knew we had to try the pressed pot. See, I was so excited I even took a picture of coffee!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2684-1.jpg
The people at the next table were horrible and kept laughing loudly at “that girl taking photo’s of her food” but I was doing it for the greater good and carried on regardless! If you don’t like camera’s you are in the wrong part of the world! :confused3
I ordered the Tonga Toast with the fruit cup and a pineapple juice (didn’t realise the fruit cup would have pineapple in it as well so bit if a pineapple overdose there!). TG ordered the Big Kahuna ( French toast, Macadamia-Pineapple pancakes, eggs, home fried potatoes, ham, bacon, and sausage ) plus an extra side of toast, which cheered me up even more as it meant I could try the also famed Macadamia Nut pancakes off his plate – this was shaping up to be a great breakfast!
Here is it, look at that grin . . . hadn’t even tried it at that point.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2685-1.jpg
The Big Kahuna
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2686-1.jpg
So . . . I hadn’t liked the zebra domes, would this live up to expectations? OMG YES!!!!!!  This was truly one of the best things I had ever tried!!! The bread was moist, the cinammon and sugar were light dustings of heaven, the banana was just the right temperature, and the whole thing was fried off nice and lightly. I even loved the strawberry syrup which I know some people find too sickly. This was divine. TG gave me a macadamia nut pancake to try which was nice (though I had expected the nuts to be in the pancake and not on top of it in the sauce) but to be honest it paled into nothing when compared to the Tonga Toast – a massive 10/10!! TG rates his 9/10. Oh yes and the coffee was really good and rich, maybe Nescafe isn’t all that after all. . .!:rotfl2:
Get this though, this thing is HUGE. Even I could only eat about ¾ of it (ok, plus ½ a pancake). And I was absolutely stuffed the whole morning. Didn’t even think of snacking.
So a resounding success . . . BUT!! Part two of the Tonga Toast story coming up in a couple of days!! :worried:
We did the Keys to the Kingdom tour all morning, and lunch was included at Columbia Harbour House. I’d known what I was having for months (is anyone else like me and doesn’t even take a glance at the menus in any of these places?! No need for a menu thank you, I’ve had my choice ready for months!), I had to try the worlds best tuna sandwich (Anchors Aweigh – tuna with lettuce and tomato on multigrain bread) and TG went for the chicken nuggets and fries basket. I confess I let you all down here . . . we were sitting with the guide and I just couldn’t bring myself to get the camera out – I’m sorry!!!!
I was still stuffed from the Tonga Toast, but this was so good I had to eat it all (well I left the crusts if that counts)? And I left the pack of chips which came with it, so I am not a total savage. This truly is an excellent tuna sandwich – really tasty. I thought there could maybe have been slightly more filling, but I am probably judging it by Earl of Sandwich standards! Really tasty though, and am considering going here again on our MK day next year instead of the Plaza which considering I have a fear of counter service places in parks (hate having to battle for a seat) is pretty darn brave of me! 9/10. TG liked the nuggets, but pretty basic and hard to mess up! 7/10. He ate my chips as well.
After the tour we thought we would treat ourselves to a Ghirardellis! They had a brand new menu! From what I could tell all the old stuff was on it, plus a few new ones! Yum! TG went for the brownie sundae I had last time (scoop of premium vanilla ice cream paired with warm Ghirardelli double chocolate brownie smothered with hot fudge sauce and topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds and a cherry). I went for the Rocky Road sundae which I think was new? From what I recall this was a scoop each of choc, vanilla and rocky road icecream, plus hot fudge sauce and shedloads of cream and nuts
Rocky Road front, Brownie back
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2697-1.jpg
Would you look at all that cream!? And yes, it was as good as it looks!!! Defo a 9/10! Needed more cream to be a 10!! TG is 7/10 – their brownies are definitely different this year.
We then toddled off to Goofy’s MYO again. TG didn’t have one, he went for the Nemo cookie (5/10, tasteless) instead, but I wanted to try a rice crispie treat. I decided to have milk chocolate, reece’s pieces and this time tried butter fingers (a nice lady tried to explain what they were to me the other day, but I came away none-the-wiser so thought I should just try!). I only had a few bites of this before TG hoovered it all up. He loved it and I didn’t! The butter fingers and reece’s pieces were nice, but I didn’t think much of the rice crispie thing. I am a marshmallow girl! Oh, and it was drizzled in caramel. I give it 6/10
Think he was trying to look like a fish?!

Goofy's MYO
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2700-1.jpg
In the evening we met up with friends (the ones who were ill in Cheesecake Factory last week) and went to Tony Romas together. We yapped on so much that I forgot to take photos – the ribs and wings were good again, but the chicken sliders were warm rather than hot apparently and the service we had was pretty bad! We had planned to go play Fantasia mini-golf then onto Beaches and Cream after and share a Kitchen Sink, but golf took so long we missed the Kitchen Sink!! Arghhh!! :( Will TG and I dare to have it by ourselves later in the trip?! Stay tuned!
Coming next,
Golden Corrall 2nd visit, another attempt at KK’s, Pop Century foodcourt , and Chef Mickey’s.

And a person after my own heart - a takeaway pizza after the flight. Have you ever tried CiCi's just up from DTD? It has gorgeous takeaway pizzas...mmm!
Glad you liked Trails End. We made two different ADR's for there last trip, but ended up having to cancel them both. Looks like we might have to try harder to keep them next trip though :)

Great minds, thats exactly what we did in Vegas!! Three nights out of 7! All those buffets I missed, but so worth it!
Butter finger is a bit like our crunchie bar but peanut butter flavoured, I think :confused3
I didn't mind it, but not a patch on the divine reeses pieces!!!
P.S. - The "google thing" is called a viewmaster!
Ah ha!! I asked TG if that was what it was called and he said no - men!!!! :furious:
Love the reviews, this is the first day on DIS board. I just spent about 2 hours reading your 15 pages. I even made kids have quiet reading time so I could finish. I would love the itinerary cards. Who made them?
Ah welcome! I am so honoured to be your first post!!! Well done or training the kids young - they need to respect the Disney time! PM me your email address and I will send you the cards - I'm sure Eeyores Tailfinder won't mind! :thumbsup2
Another day of yummy food! Hope you enjoyed the KTTK tour, we loved it. Sorry to hear that you got grief for taking pictures at the Kona Cafe, people really should mind their own business - we need photos!
Laur's princess:
The tour is really worth doing, though TG fell in love with our guide and spent the rest of the trip keeping an eye out for her!!!
I knew my duties and no amount of mockers would stop me taking pictures!!:)
Yet another great installment!!
Do you happen to have a Trip Report as well? :)
Glad you enjoyed KTTK, we've booked it for this trip and I'm excited to be eating at Columbia Harbour House
I wish I could try the Tonga Toast as so many people rave about it, but I hate bananas and cinnamon, so might not be the wisest of choices! We do have an ADR for breakfast at Kona though on our first morning, and am looking forward to the macadamia pineapple pancakes!!
More! More!! You have me really wanting to make an ADR at Trail's End!
No I couldn't be doing with a trip report, in case you didn't notice I am a food girl!!!:rotfl2:
The tour is really enjoyable, but wear comfy shoes! By the end I was fading fast!!
I still remember your review of breakfast lasagna, regarding hidden cinnamon!! So yes, avoid the tonga toast!!!! :rotfl2:
Trails End . . . not luxury but cetainly lovely!!!
I hear the little pitter patter of my heart when I look at those yummy sundaes from Ghiradelli. Maybe it's the pitter patter that my feet will do to run off the extra calories that I'm going to consume at Disney. Does anyone know if you can use snack credits at Ghiradelli?
Wish I had tken a picture of the nw meu for everyone!!! I LOVE it here!
All I have to say is--WOW!:donald:
We're not going to WDW until fall of 2010, but yes, I am already looking into things to do. Your review and pics are awesome. I love reading everyones trip reports. Can't wait to read more. And - to Eeyores tail (?) can I have a template of the itinary(sp?) cards?
PM me and I will send you the template!:thumbsup2
Hello Pooh's Honey Pot!! I just got on board to your reviews... am enjoying them. But, more importantly, I just noticed you are from Norwich England!!!
My husband is from there and we visit his family all the time. He graduated from UEA!!
I know I have only read a few of your reviews so far, I am on page 4? of 15? or so. But, you seem like such a kindred spirit in terms of what you rate as high quality food.
No way?! Who knew there were so many Norfolk Dis-ers?!
By high quality food do you mean lots of it?!:rotfl:

That Tonga Toast looks like a cardiac arrest on a plate, now how to fit it in on our trip????
...... Hmmmmm (looking at schedule) there must be away.
OK found a spare day, is it that good that it is worth,
1. Dropping In-laws at Seaworld
2. Parking at MK
3. Taking monorail to Captain Cooks
4. Pick up Tonga Toast
5. Head to MK.
Kirsten
I have to say YES! I would do that for some right now!
I like the way you are dumping the in-laws at a lesser park before heading off for heaven and MK!!!!!!

Tuesday 20th May
We treated ourselves to another Golden Corrall feast today (and I mean feast). Again nothing spectacular but nothing bad and you can’t beat it for the price! My cup of tea took ages to arrive so I forgot to take pictures, sorry! 8/10.
As you know we had suffered with a few disappointing Krispy Kreme experiences this trip and we didn’t plan to try any more. But fate had other ideas and on our way to the Mall at Millenia (I needed more Crocs, you cannot have enough Crocs) we stopped at traffic lights, and there next to us was a big Krispy Kreme shop that we knew nothing about!! Well you can’t argue with destiny, so in we went. These were not bad thank goodness!!!! We only bought four rather than our traditional dozen and they were nice – not the best I’ve ever had but a vast improvement. Plus the staff were polite and the store seemed clean. A vast improvement! Orlando redeemed itself on the KK front (though Vegas and the UK still win!). 8/10.
Now I had two aims on this years vacation in order to fully consider myself an “American in the making” - I wanted to try cornbread, and a chilli cheese dog! I am convinced knowing about these delicacies will impress the Visa people when I try to emigrate!! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:
Well the cornbread trials went down a treat, so time for the chilli cheese dog. After perusing all the menus for months I knew we could get one at Pop Century, so off we went.
First off rudest service I experienced all trip, even including the first KK shop!! Bear in mind this was about 2.30pm, so they weren’t exactly rushed off their feet. Two “gentlemen” from Jamaica according to their name badges (and a country I will now never bother to visit) ignored us while they carried on their chat, then looked at us, then ignored us again and on it went. When they finally felt ready to take our order they messed it up three times! All I ordered was two chilli cheese dogs and a side of chilli cheese fries (I felt I should do the chilli-cheese thing in style!) so it wasn’t exactly hard to get right. And their attitudes sucked – no Disney magic here! Just needed to get all that off my chest!:furious:
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2734-1.jpg
Onto my long awaited chilli cheese dog! The roll was lovely – good and soft. The sausage was nice – meaty and thick. And the chilli was nice. But the cheese – what the heck is this rubbish cheese people?!!!! It was the most gross, artificial, un-cheesy, squirty cheese I have ever encountered in my life. There I sat in the middle of the foodcourt trying to scrape it off my chilli (didn't want to waste the chilli)!! So it turns out I like chilli dogs, but not chilli cheese dogs!! I dunked it in mustard as well – that’s the thing to do, isn’t it?!! Am I ready for my nationalisation test now?! :rotfl2:
Now all that said, I could tolerate the cheese on the fries.
Anyway TG absolutely loved it and as a result we are staying at Pop next year so he is nearer to the food court. Seriously. Men are crazy creatures. He doesn’t seem to realise this will mean we are further from the Magic Cookie bars and the beignets!
TG 9/10 (loses 1 point for service), me 6/10 (loses point for service and 3 points for evil cheese)
Chef Mickeys. We had been here once before back in 2005 but it had been part of a trip with a group, and was really rushed so we were looking forward to going again! I should own up right now that I have a massive soft spot for the Contemporary, as flying through it on the monorail is my first ever Disney memory, so I am bound to be a bit biased here I’m afraid!
We arrived a few minutes late as I was busy trying on princess tiara’s in the shop, but eventually checked in at the podium and were seated really quickly – the buzzer went off before we even had our photo taken. Our waiter came straight over and he was very nice – we were in the room nearest the podium so nice and close to the food! The only let-down was that when the characters do their dancey bit no one in our room waved their napkins around (apart from me!). There was a bit of a lack of atmosphere, but that’s nothing major, I just think the people with kids should have been making an effort for the poor little things!
So food! First plate, I had a few tomatoes and olives which I love, a really good pasta salad (good apart from the peas, who likes peas!?) lumps of cheese and of course – a cornbread muffin! Woo hoo! I could have eaten this plateful again and again, it really hit the spot. TG had rolls, salad, pizza, cheese, and I think that's some salami as well. Not bad for round one!
My plate

TG's plate
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2751-1.jpg
On to the entrée’s. We had LOADS, I mean loads. I have seen a few unflattering reviews about dinner here but we thought everything was top-notch. I had a hot pasta torterlini (sp?) dish which was to die for (though again had peas I had to pick out!), a piece of turkey pie, some roasted red-skin potatoes, some mash. The veg were a bit weird – the broccoli was in egg and the carrot was in orange. This was not good, but its vegetable so who is going to eat that on vacation anyway?! The cornbread stuffing had cranberry in it I think, I didn’t like this – don’t mess with the cornbread people!! Stic with the muffins! TG had chicken, pasta, turkey pie, roasted potatoes, mash and carrots

Me
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2756-1.jpg
My second plate consisted mainly of more of that divine pasta tortelinni! There was a big dish full of chicken with – I think – Thai spices. I just had a wing, this was really flavoursome! I had some more mash as well. TG had the same as he had for his first plate – neither of us made it as far as the carving station even once!
Our waiter brought us out a celebration cupcake then as it was our anniversary (*well strictly speaking it was our fake-iversary but that’s a long story!). TG ate it all! Apparently it was moist but I was still ploughing through my mound of pasta at that point so missed out.
My 2nd plate and cake!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2760-1.jpg
I had to pop to the restroom at that point, and can honestly say that my tummy was so unbelievably full that I couldn’t hold it in to walk past all those people in the room. I was mortified! I had eaten SOOOO much, I just had to cross my arms over my belly and hope that covered it. So I was stuffed basically. No way was I eating anything else. :faint:
.
.
.
.
Yeah right.
On to dessert!!!! :rotfl:
We had a little bowl of icecream each first with gummi bears on top. Now this sounds silly but it was too cold to eat! Even when it started melting it was just killing my teeth. So we gave up on that and went to the good stuff.
Here we have a perfectly divine dollop of chocolate mousse on an oreo – that was good! We also have a big gooey chocolate brownie, the little tart was key lime I think, and a chocolate rice crispie square - everything nice apart from the rice crispie square -really don't like them it seems!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2773-1.jpg
TG had the brownie, the oreo mousse thing, chocolate cake, and a plain rice crispie square
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2774-1.jpg
TG gives it 10/10! I am 9.5/10 – they lose half a point for messing with the cornbread. This was probably better food than Crystal Palace to be honest, but we prefer the characters at CP! We are trying this for breakfast next year so I hope its as good! I believe they do the peanut butter and jelly pizza here than I tried in Disneyland last year? I look forward to reacquainting myself with that little delight!
We were meant to go out tonight to Jellyrolls, but we were the only things rolling, all the way back to the room and into bed. I’m not sure if you have Weebles in the US, but that was us two, just wobbling our way back to the room!
I would never feel hungry again. :faint:
Coming up soon, Kona Café breakfast part 2, Ghirerdellis, Pizza Hut, and the final Goofy’s MYO snack.

First of all, just let me tell you that I am thoroughly enjoying your reviews ! And then, in the interest of international relations of course, let me suggest a solution to your chili cheese dog dilemma - next time, order it with the chili and the SHREDDED REAL CHEESE underneath it. I assure you this will make a huge difference ! I am not a fan, but my husband is, and this was his solution to the unidentifiable orange goo . . . . ! At Pop, they have this cheese at every station, so its not a problem ! Hope it helps !

I've stayed there several times, and actually had wonderful experiences at the food court, very friendly CMs. Hopefully, it will be better for you next year!
Thanks for the review of Chef Mickey's! We've always done breakfast, not dinner, so it was great to see that and the desserts. The look delish!:goodvibes

Darn my lack of knowledge about the mash bowls - I am going to have to waste a meal at KFC next year just to try them!! :( I have to weigh in on the mash bowls for you. I HATE KFC. With a passion, seriously it makes me ill thinking about it. With that said, we went there about a year ago b/c DF loves it so much. I reluctantly ordered the mash bowl, oh my a little piece of heaven. I don't mind going there anymore. It's worth a repeat trip. ::yes::

Your reviews are awesome! Great commentary and great pictures!
I am a huge Anglophile so it is funny to me how much you like the United States! We have actually traded houses twice with families in England. In 2003 we were in Carleton Rode. Do you know it? It is a tiny town in Norfolk about half an hour from Norwich. We went to a show at the puppet theatre and this sort of castle-museum and the cathedral and library in Norwich. In 2005 we were in Tunbridge Wells in Kent. We enjoyed it so much both times. My kids adore British treats like cherry bakewells and chocolate digestives. So many good memories!

Sorry to hear about your experience with the servers at the Pop Century food court. One of the reasons that the Pop is my favourite resort is because the CMs are usually so nice! I like the chilli cheese dogs but my favourite meal from there are the nachos - sooooo good!
Chef Mickeys is on our list for next year, so I'm glad to read a good review! Those mousse oreo things look really good.

We loved Chef Mickey's for breakfast! We went there on the day we left and what a great way to end the vacation on a Disney high!! The character interaction was great, and the PB&J Pizza is indeed, how shall I put this, YUM!! After a few plates and 2 huge glasses of chocolate milk (the choccy milk is awesome!) I too was feeling really sick and I was worried I'd be sick on the monorail  I guess it's funny now!! I was going to book it again this year but managed to snag an ADR at CRT for brekkie.

Yay, I'm caught up again!
I've been a member of the 50's Prime Time Cafe's "Clean Plate Club" in the past. I earned a sticker. ;) I enjoy the fried chicken and meatloaf there, and the s'mores...I guess that's really American if you can't get graham crackers in the UK!
Anchor's Away...the only item on the menu at Columbia Harbor House as far as I'm concerned, now that they don't have the 1/2 sandwich and cup of soup combo anymore. I'm a big fan of tuna, and I'm glad you agree it's a might good tuna sandwich. :thumbsup2
I haven't been to Chef Mickey's in years. My favorite item had been the parmesan mashed potatoes. And I think you're confusing the cornbread you like vs. "stuffing/dressing", a side dish usually on Thanksgiving. Stuffing is savory, and cornbread (like the muffins) can be on the savory or sweet side. I like it better sweet, like the muffins at the Boston Market restaurant chain. I think you'd like it there. :)
You must have a hummingbird's metabolism. That's the only explanation for your twiggy nature. ;)
