Two “gentlemen” from Jamaica according to their name badges (and a country I will now never bother to visit) ignored us while they carried on their chat, then looked at us, then ignored us again and on it went.
I know EXACTLY how you feel. That's how I am feeling waiting for you to finish the next day of your report. Can you please just ignore all these other people's questions and concentrate on the report?:)
Please don't anyone take me seriously. I'm only kidding. I look forward to reading your review each day, but I see it is nearing the end. Guess it is time for you to get back to the World and eat some more.

Ok...all caught up!
I am in love with your food report and quite jealous of your metabolism.!
Isn't cornbread great!?!? Actually, speaking of cornbread and KFC, our local KFC used to have cornbread, and it was divine (totally unexpected, coming out of a fast food joint). Well, ours no longer carries it, but if you do happen to make it back there next year, definitely ask if they have it. You won't be disappointed!
Also, since you seem to like tuna sandwiches, I had the best one of my life (yes, of my life) at Roaring Forks at Wilderness Lodge when we went in April. I've never had a tuna sandwich anywhere else in the world, but this one was top notch, really. And it was so huge! Top it off with one of the megasize brownies and a diet coke and I was a happy, happy lady!
Looking forward to your next installment!

I have been following this thread. But after seeing the food at Trails End, I had to chime in to say I can not wait to go there. We just switched to TE from WCC and I'm more excited to be going now. We are also doing 50's and I may have to get over to POP and try that chili cheese dog. Can't believe we've stayed there a couple times and I have never had that! popcorn:: Here's to as many reviews as you have. :worship:

I would wave my napkin, but the last time I tried it I nearly put out my own eye and I knocked over a glass of juice. :rotfl2:
And then I tried waving a small towel at a playoff baseball game a few years back (rally towels ... you guys know what I'm talking about) and it resulted in a near miss that would have resulted in the spillage of much skunky beer.
I've now been officially banned from napkin waving. :lmao:

Wednesday 21st May
So, originally this second Kona Café breakfast was booked so I could have the macadamia nut pancakes. But serendipity in the form of TG happened the other morning when TG’s breakfast came with them, so I got to try them after all. Which meant today I could choose what to have . . . more tonga toast please!! I ordered the fruit cup with it again, and that lovely pot of coffee again. TG went for the french toast with bacon, and another side of toast.
Before coffee . . .
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2797-1.jpg
After coffee . . . it really is good stuff!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2798-1.jpg
Different view . . . today we have the tonga toast cut open. Looking good!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2802-1.jpg
I wish it had tasted as good as it looked. All I can say is, if this was the first tonga toast I had ever had, than I would never try it again! It was SO overcooked compared to the superb one I had Monday. The bread was really over crispy, and because it had been siting in the oil too long the oil had really seeped through into the bread. There was also (get this from me!) way too much sugar on it. I ate half of it, but was feeling so sick from all the excess fat I just couldn’t carry on. I was so disappointed. I will go here again, and I will have it again, but next time I will make sure to say that I just want it very lightly cooked. I know you won’t believe this considering my vacation diet, but I actually don’t like the taste of just pure fat – this made me feel ill for most of the day! For the next few days after eating it I swore never to have one again, but since getting back the memories of the first one have flooded back over me thankfully! I can only give this one a 5/10 sadly. :worried:
French Toast
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2799-1.jpg
TG liked the French toast and bacon 7/10, and we both really enjoyed the coffee again! If I owned a percolator I might have bought some of the beans!
We went to Blizzard beach, but I felt so queasy after the tongo toast that we couldn’t even partake in our favourite mini-donuts. This was devastating indeed! Then an even bigger blow to the diet plans – we were due to have lunch at Cookes of Dublin (where we were both planning on having the battered cocktail sausages) but I still couldn’t bear the thought of anything oily near me. The only thing in the whole wide world I fancied was . . . icecream . . . so off to Ghirerdellis’ again for lunch!
Despite how ill I was feeling I made a remarkable recovery when this appeared in front of me!:rotfl:

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2814-1.jpg
Ohh! TG’s is the very berry sundae (A scoop of premium strawberry cheesecake ice cream smothered with sliced strawberry topping under a layer of blueberry cheesecake ice cream, blueberry topping, whipped cream, our chocolate berry blues and a hand made chocolate dipped waffle roll), and I went for the mint bliss -one scoop of mint chip ice cream, one scoop of chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate hot fudge sauce, whipped cream and a square of Mint Bliss Intense Dark chocolate (but I subbed normal fudge sauce for dark choc fudge sauce – I have been unable to eat dark chocolate since a slight over indulgence last Easter!!!!). Must say this was a joy to eat – best sundae of the trip so far, I ate every last drip. 10/10 (TG 8/10)
Then I felt sick again and we spent the afternoon laying in a darkened hotel room! The sundae was so worth it though!:thumbsup2
While at DTD we picked up a couple more Goofy snacks to last the rest of the vacation. I had my favourite – marshmallows, milk choc, reeses pieces and choc chips, and caramel. Delish! 10/10 again! TG tried a gingerbread mickey with choc chips and m&m's. he didn’t like this – thought the gingerbread tasted mouldy!!! I tried a little and it seemed OK to me! TG 6/10.

Tonight we wanted a quick and early dinner as we were going to the Princess and Pirate party so thought we would go to one of our favourites, Pizza Hut! We LOVE Pizza Hut in America, its better in every way from the UK ones! Usually we go to the one at the top of I-Drive, but thought we would try the one on 192 for a change. What a mistaka to make-a!
The fact that when we arrived at 5.30 it was completely empty apart from one family should have been a clue that it wasn’t perhaps the best. Despite the fact it was empty we waited a good few minutes to be seated. Then it was about another 10 minutes before the same girl who seated us came to take our drink order. All the while we had been waiting we had been able to hear her and a man (I assume the manager) behind the counter having an argument about how overworked she was!!!! You had two customers lady!!! I asked for a bottle of water
Waitress - “I can’t sell you water”,
Me “Oh? But its on the menu and I don’t like fizzy stuff”
Waitress “We can only sell bottled water to our takeout guests. I can get you a glass of tap water?”
Is it me?! Isn’t it a bit weird not to be able to sell me a bottle of water, that is on the menu she handed me?! Anyway, we went for garlic bread and a large super supreme (I think) which was basically a bit of every topping!
All the while we were waiting the argument carried on, it was really quite uncomfortable (yet entertaining!!!!!!). A British family came in, sat down, listened to the argument, then left without ordering!! The wait also gave us time to look around a bit – this place really was grubby. I’m so glad we couldn’t see the kitchen. TG is an environmental health officer and I think if we’d have seen it we would have had to leave, or shut it down!!
I am pleased to report the food was as good as remembered! Thank goodness!! The garlic bread in Pizza Hut is to die for. If I tell you that Pizza Hut garlic bread in the UK is half this size, in only buttered on one side, and is always overcooked you will understand why our hearts leapt at the sight of this. Buttered so thickly on both sides that it meets in the middle, and cooked to perfection. This was wolfed down in 10 seconds flat. Garlic bread is a 10/10 every time for us!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2819-1.jpg
Side story - Remember my friend who was ill in the Cheesecake Factory? Back in 2002 her and me came to Orlando alone together and she puked up the pizza hut meal we had and blocked our hotel toilet with it . . . what a waste of garlic bread. And is she always ill on vacation?! Anyway the garlic bread is so good, that memory doesn’t put me off it, and I have had some every trip since!
The pizza was also nice, much nicer than the Dominos one. I had 3 slices and TG had 4. We mark it 7/10 though because the place was dirty and the atmosphere appalling! Stick with I-Drive!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2820-1.jpg
We had some popcorn in the MK that evening, I love that stuff. They started getting Orvil Redenbacks in the UK for a while, but it seems to have vanished again now, more’s the pity. I had to bring a suitcase full of it back from Walmart!! TG then got an icecream from Main St but they messed up his order so I didn’t dare take a photo of his face at that point!! Don’t mess with his snacks people!
Only an OK day food wise, we will do better!
Tomorrow, POFQ foodcourt, Beaches and Cream lunch, Bahama Breeze dinner, and many snacks from Boulangerie Patisserie!!!!!

Shame about the tonga toast, at least you got one good one on the trip though. It always looks so good but I've just never been able to fit a trip to Kona for breakfast into our plans.
Oh and that mint sundae looks yum, I'm drooling now just looking at it.

How disappointing that your tonga toast wasn't good.:(
Could you tell me about the bananas in it? Are they in some kind of a sauce, or just sliced and placed between the two pieces of bread?
Have you ever had a Monte Cristo sandwhich? Those are great if they are made well....
Looking forward to more updates!! Yummm that sundae looked SO yummy! I love anything mint and the milk choc fudge was a better choice by my taste!

Love reading your food reviews! I am so hungry now and nothing in my house looks as good as anything you ate! I wish I knew about some of these places before I planned my trip...but that saves me some for next time!
I especially love the look of that Tonga Toast (sp?) and the coffee. Probably too late for me to try and get some since we will be arriving in WDW in 2 days...But you never know....
Your pics are great and hopefully I get the nerve to take pics of our food while we are there! I know my DH will think I'm completely nuts  but it looks like such fun and food makes memories too!

Shame about the Tonga Toast.
Funny how all you wanted was ice-cream when you were feeling sick. Doug and I got sick on our Honeymoon in Thailand, actually I got my dodgy tummy in Singapore then gave it to Doug in Thailand. But when we were both a bit delicate all we wanted was ice-cream. The hotel in Chang Mai has the best banana splits and it really hit the spot.
Am looking forward to Bahama Breeze review, and hoping it is a good one, as the menu looks so good that it is already scheduled into our trip.

Yay, I'm caught up again!
I've been a member of the 50's Prime Time Cafe's "Clean Plate Club" in the past. I earned a sticker. ;) I enjoy the fried chicken and meatloaf there, and the s'mores...I guess that's really American if you can't get graham crackers in the UK!
You must have a hummingbird's metabolism. That's the only explanation for your twiggy nature. ;)
Oh I didn't get a sticker and I licked my plate clean!
NO graham crackers - see why I want to emigrate?!

Time to comment on the gluttony!
Tonga Toast Part Deux: It is sad to see a repeat item go horribly wrong. That's why food reports often see such mixed reviews for the same item or restaurant. If the food is consistently good, emphasis on consistent, the majority of the reviews are fantastic.
Ghirardelli. I loooooooooove ice cream, yet I would not be able to finish those monsters! Yum, though!
Pizza Hut. Wow. All I can say is, wow. If I were that manager, she'd be out the door in two seconds flat. There's no way she should be arguing like that, especially in front of customers. Of course, when you were there, it was empty, but you never know if there was a busy time before you came.
But by your description, I doubt it. I'm doing real pizza (by that, my favorite Chicago style, Gino's East) next week with some DISers. I will salute you and your love affair with our food. ;)

lol @ your anorexic dog....that is so funny! All the dogs I have had have been chow hounds! (My beagle was the worst, but she NEVER gained weight because she was so active).
A monte cristo is great if it is made well. I first had one when I was young at disneyland in the blue bayou restaurant. On subsequent trips my daughter and I would split one, or she would order a kids meal and I would order clam chowder and we would swap.
The monte cristo is bread with thin ham, turkey and cheese. I have had them with swiss cheese and monterey jack and I think gueyre (sp?).
My favorite is swiss...as it tastes kind of nutty.
Then top with another piece of bread. Dip in egg mixture (just like french toast). and cook it together as you would french toast.
It is usually sprinkled with a little bit of powdered sugar. Then on the side you can usually get sour cream or strawberry jam (my daughters favorite.)
As long as they don't use too much butter, they are fantastic! Yummm.
Now I want a monte cristo...lol.
Looking forward to more!!

You are the champion of WDW/Orlando eating. You and your DH should get an award. I have no doubt in my mind that you tell the truth when you say your DH gained 14lbs!
BTW, where I live we have scum dogs and I refuse to be around DH when he eats them (both during and after:rotfl: ). They are like chili dogs except no cheese. You would LOVE them!

We are planning a US roadtrip in 2010 (a Disney free holiday :faint: ) and Atlanta is so on our list!! And Graceland!!
I've been reading this dining report/adventure for 2 hours now! I've thought of so much to say in my head but now I"m at a loss for words!
No cheese - sounds good to me!!!!:rotfl:
Sadly I wasn't lying about the weight gain - the only bitter pill is he has lost most of his already, but I have only lost a pound of mine so far!!!! :sad1:

We had breakfasts booked out the next couple of days, so this was our last chance to eat at the POFQ foodcourt and have the delish beignets. So for some reason instead of them I went for the cinammon roll that I hadn’t much enjoyed at when I tried it last week. Crazy Lady. This is what happens when I try make decisions before my morning cup of tea. We also ate in the foodcourt rather than the room as I felt we should eat in there at least once. The cinammon roll was Ok, but when you compare it to a Cinabbon (and beignets) its just fades into nothing!! TG had the croissant which was also a bit dry - 7/10.

We were having an early lunch so NO snacking during the morning . . . I know!!!! We walked to Beaches N Cream and arrived about 12.15. They could seat us straight away at the counter or there was a ten minute wait for a table. We decided to wait, and it was probably less than 5 minutes in total.
The server was pretty good, quick and efficient. I dropped my fork at one point and asked for another, waited about five minutes and couldn’t wait any longer so used the one I dropped on the floor (well if you don’t taste germs you can’t become immune to them), and then she appeared with the replacement. Oh well.
Even the lights in this place are cute!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2913-1.jpg
Onto food! Firstly as a big bonus could get the lovely pink lemonade here!! We decided to share one regular cheese burger with onion rings, and a hot dog with fries. The waitress took the order and asked if we wanted chilli, cheese and onions on the hotdog. “No way” shouted I, “none of your fake, gloopy, cheese for me thank you, had enough of that yesterday”. “But wait” she said “this is real, proper, grated cheese” . Well alrighty then – pile it on!!
Here they are:-
Burger and onion rings

Chilli Cheese dog and fries
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2915-1.jpg
This was all superb. Absolutely lovely. Now that’s what I call a chilli cheese dog!!! And the fries were probably the best I have had at Disney. The onion rings were OK, but I still wasn’t in the mood for grease after the tonga toast experience so didn’t eat many of them. But the burger . . . oh the burger . . . sweet morsel of heaven. We both agreed it was the best burger ever, and we only got half each of a regular one! Not even a double!!!!! What an amateur mistake!!!! Moist, unfatty burger, and squidgy soft roll. I gave this 9.5/10 (lose half a point for greasy onion rings, and for the waitress not encouraging us both to have more burgers instead of hotdog!!) TG gives hotdog 10/10 and burger 11/10.
Onto dessert . . . I was SO torn between the No Way Hose or sharing the Kitchen Sink, we had heard so much about both. In the end I went for the No Way Hose (peanut butter and hot fudge delight with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, peanut butter and chocolate morsels, whipped cream and a cherry ) and TG went for the Fudge Mud Slide (A gooey chewy brownie, hot fudge, three scoops of vanilla ice cream, oreo cookies, topped with whipped cream and a cherry ). We had every intention of sharing them but in the end I mainly stuck with the No Way Hose and TG the Mud Slide.
First of all they are humungous!!! Bigger than any sundae I have ever seen. This might have scared some people, but not us. We laugh in the face of danger.
Yes that is oreos decorating it! Whole ones!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2919-1.jpg
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2920-2.jpg
Oh yes, should just say this picture was taken by a little boy in the restaurant . . . his dad sent him over to ask if we wanted a picture together! How kind was that?!
Not many things make me grin like this . . .
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2921-1.jpg
Anyway I had the No Way Hose and it was to die for. Peanut butter chips and choc chips all over it. The peanut butter sauce is really thick. OMG I loved this. I think I left a bit of icecream, but I had a good attempt at it. 10/10 from me and another 11/10 from TG. TG gives the Fudge Mud Slide 10/10 (I didn’t try enough to mark it!). We sure liked this place!
OK, so I lied about leaving some . . . :rotfl:
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2923-1.jpg
Well, there was only one thing for it. We had to return and have a full burger each. There was no option - I had to look at my precious “food day-plan” made six months ago, and rearrange something. A Dis-sers worst nightmare.
But this meant another chance to maybe have the kitchen sink!!!!
Went back to Ecpot and by 4pm we were famished. We were heading to Norway for a school bread when I remembered seeing some good reviews of the Boulangerie Patisserie in France, so thought we would give it a look. Well this is us, so a look led to a purchase or 2. I went for a Crème Brulee (hadn’t had one all trip and was gagging for one!). TG went for something he thought was a chocolate éclair . . .
Managed to get a table outside eventually (they SO need more tables there, it was like a battle ground trying to get one. Luckily I have sharp elbows!!). I tucked straight into the crème brulee and have to give it a 8.5/10. Excellent! Really crisp topping and lovely light base. I wouldn’t know how to choose between it and the school bread to be honest.
Poor TG!!! Now I don’t know about France but in the UK a chocolate éclair is light pastry with chocolate on the top, and cream all through the middle. TG loves these. So, he took a massive bite and then gagged. Instead of cream it was filled with a really pale, unchocolately chocolate, brown thick goo. He hated it!! He said it was like eating (and if I am sharing too much tell me and I will delete it) he said it was like trying to eat a certain part of Willy Wonka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2: Which made me laugh so hard that I choked up a piece of my lovely crème brulee. He gives it 1/10, (tasteless, just plain weird)
Left Creme Brulee, right Willy Wonkas . . .
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2949-1.jpg
Anyway he refused to eat anymore of it so tucked into my crème brulee!!!!! He had half of it. Oink, oink Mister! He didn’t like the crisp top (is he mad?) but liked the base - 7/10
Now you are all going to call me a fool for this. Tonight we had reservations for Le Cellier, 7pm (didn’t I do well!?). You may have noticed we are not really into steak, but we were going for the atmosphere, and there were other things on the menu we were going to have (think there was a pork chop thing). Then of course a couple of months ago they changed the menu and there was literally nothing left we fancied! They should give 6-months notice when they change a menu so as not to inconvenience people with ADR’s!!! So I gave away the reservation to another Dis-ser . . . and made the decision to go to Bahama Breeze on Vineland Ave. That’s where the fool part comes in.
Now in my defence I had seen a few good reviews of this place, and indeed one of my guide books says it is the best chain restaurant food I will find in America, and the website was all tropical and alluring and I thought it would get us in the mood for next years cruise. Plus the menu had ribs and TWO types of wings – how could I fight that?!
Off we went! It was packed near the podium but we got seated straight away on a nice big table, waitress came straight over and was really friendly. Everything was going so well.
And then arrived the worst food of the holiday (for me, I should sat up front TG quite liked it). I had the Jamaican grilled wings (Marinated with authentic spicy jerk seasonings and slow roasted, with a tangy dipping sauce. ) and ribs (A full rack of fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs, glazed with our sweet and smokey guava barbecue sauce, served with mash ). TG had West Indian patties (Crispy pastry with savory beef filling served with seasoned sour cream and apple-mango salsa ) and the wood grilled Angus burger (Thick and juicy...a half-pound of Angus ground chuck on a toasted bun with lettuce, vine-ripe tomato, red onion ). When the wings arrived I literally drooled. They were huge!!! Then I started eating them, they were SO tough and gristly. Despite the size I barely got any meal off them at all. I also didn’t much like the rub they were in. I only had about 3 of them. TG’s patties were OK, kind of like Cornish pasties and very filling.
Patties
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2970-1.jpg
Wings / lumps of gristle
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2971-1.jpg
Then the ultimate annoyance. The entrees arrived while we were still eating. Man that really bugs me big style. I told the girl that we were still eating but she didn’t really seem to understand the point I was making, and to be frank the wings were so bad I didn’t mind giving up on them. But still, that really sends my blood pressure boiling. Is it that hard to work out that even me and TG need at least 10 minutes between dishes appearing!!!
The ribs were also a let down. Again they were just very tough and definitely didn’t fall off the bone. I have to be fair though – the mash was lovely – best of the whole trip. Proper potato and loads of it – not enough to redeem the meal though! And not even a little salad or anything on the plate. I give the place 4/10 for the mash. TG gives it a 7/10.
Ribs and burger
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2973-1.jpg
We decided not to bother with Dessert !!!! Well sort of . . . we went back to Epcot for Illuminations and yep, you guessed it. I had another Crème Brule!!!! All to myself!!! As good as the last . . . we only have one day in Epcot next year and I still don’t know how to choose between that or the schoolbread. I will probably have both though so let’s not stress over the decision.
Got back to the room and decided to mess with the ADR’s. Lunch on Friday was meant to be Plaza (MK), and Saturday was meant to be a final trip to the Earl before heading for the airport. But I threw mad caution to the wind (TG was busy watching Stacey on Disney TV and unable to help) . . . I decided to forego our last Earl visit and return to B&C. Then I was in the mood for change so we cancelled our lunch at the Plaza tomorrow and I booked Grand Floridian Café . . . without even seeing the menu!! What kind of disaster was this going to be?! Find out soon!!!!

I think these are the BEST reviews I"ve ever seen. Question: you mentioned your TG gained 14 lbs. May I ask how much you gained? I would have gained about 10-12 I"m sure. And you look like such a little thing. How did you do it? And are you practically fasting now after all of that?
Congrats for being able to eat this way and still look great! :)

OK firstly the NO way Jose is on the menu, I am bigger than you but there is no way I could eat that AND the meal before hand so we might just go for the dessert.
Bahama Breeze... You are right the wings don't look that flash, although I wasn't planning on ordering them or ribs but shrimp all the way.... I wonder if that is better?????
I will keep an eye on future reviews and make our decision when we get there. The joys of offsite dining is that you don't have to decide 6 months in advance if you want to eat there.

Now for Bahama Breeze. I think it's hit or miss. The only thing I really like there is the appetizer that is bread with really fresh tomatoes and cheese. Sooo yummy. Ohh and of course they have a really good frozen drink layered with all kinds of goodness. Last time we were there I had some paper in my veggie sandwich which I was not a fan of!

I put on 7lbs - oink!! I've hardly lost any so far because I had a stinking cold for two weeks when we got back so couldn't exercise and lived on icecream for my throat! But now I am on the diet an exercise straight and narrow . . . apart from yesterday when we went out for our anniversary and had a dozen Krispy Kremes! That addiction will never die! :rotfl:

Arghhhh stop!!!Don't pay UK prices for crocs!!!!! I paid is dollars what we pay in £'s over here! We are shockingly ripped off! There is a croc shop at Orlando airport, one in the Florida Mall, and most of the sports shops (and shops in Disney) sell them as well, and they are all around $30, rather than £30!! A relatively small eating day coming up . . .:rotfl2:
Friday 23rd May
Well you may have gathered by now that we love the Pooh characters, especially Eeyore. Its always our tradition to go to Crystal Palace for dinner on the trip but I kept hearing good things about the breakfast so we booked that as well this year!
Our ADR was for 8.05, we were seated about ten minutes later and it was already very packed by the time we got in there. This place gets busy! :scared1:
Before we start on the food just need to have a good old rant about the server! We didn’t see her for ages and we were gasping for drinks. We don’t like to go up to the food until we have seen a server (it just seems rude some-how!) so we sat there waiting. Eventually she came over with coffee, which I had for a change. Preferred the coffee in the foodcourt, but then I am quite tragic with these things. Anyway I know she was trying to be friendly and I am being really unfair here but she kept us talking for AGES literally going over everything we would find in the buffet. Just let me get over there and find out for myself woman!!!! I was sooo hungry. I could see TG on the edge of his seat as well ready to sprint up as soon as she released us which was quite funny!
She did give us one good tip which was to ask the chef to make me a choc-chip Mickey shaped pancake, but more of that later.
I asked for another juice at some point . . . then asked twice more before I got it.
Agreed none of the above is especially bad . . .I haven’t got to the worst bits yet! We had reached the bottom of the safe in our hotel room so only had large notes left to pay with. We put the money in the little wallet thing with the cheque and played with Eeyore – by the time he was gone the money had gone as well. Eventually she came back and said “You did say to keep all the change didn’t you? I just thought I’d check as it’s quite large”. I don’t know if she was expecting us to get all British and embarrassed and tell her to keep all the change, but we’re not that daft!! Hello, we never even spoke to her when she took the money! So we confirmed we would be partial to receiving our change if she didn’t mind, so that we could actually then choose what tip to leave. :confused3
A few minutes later she stomped back and told us that we had “had to leave her a bit of a tip anyway” as the restaurant didn’t have any coins to give out in the change!!! Is it me?! How can a restaurant not have any coins?! It was about 75c so its not like it matters in the long run, but surely they should have given us a full dollar, rather than taking the 75c off us?! Anyway that just annoyed me a bit . . . a LOT! And yes, we did top up the 75c tip! Though not as much as we would have if she hadn’t tried to keep all our change!
Anyhow, onto the good stuff!!!
Quite a bit of food coming up as Eeyore took an hour and 15 minutes to reach us, so we felt we should keep eating in order to guard our table!
I had some nice fresh fruit first (pineapple and strawberries), and a croissant – I don’t usually go for croissants but this one was lovely – really soft and fresh. Made me wish I had been picking them at all the other buffets we had been to! TG had fruit also

Then on to the hot stuff. I had some bacon which was the best bacon of the trip, some breakfast potatoes which I loved, and a biscuit and gravy (which we really need to get into eating in the UK – SO good!), and a little Mickey waffle as it was my last chance to have one (major sob). Then I thought I would take Lady-Chats-a-Lots advice and go get a Mickey choc-chip pancake. . .
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3001-1.jpg
There was an icy chill of fear in the air as I approached the chefs area, no one was speaking, no one was requesting food, people were just standing there, looking terrified. Then I realised why . . . this was the scariest chef EVER!!!! He was so grumpy, I was convinced it was a comedy act at first, but it wasn’t!!!! He was literally grunting at people when they ordered, and lord help anyone who tried to order before he raised one evil eyebrow in their direction to acknowledge them. I stood there for about a minute before my legs gave way in fright, so yet again I did what every good woman does . . . returned to my seat and made TG go up for me!!!!!! :rotfl2:
TG also returned a shaking former wreck of himself, but he did better than me and did in fact return with the delightful choc-chip pancake for me!!! This were GOOD! I took the advice of Lady-Chats-a-Lot-AND-Steals-Your-Change and put my maple syrup on the side in case it was too sickly together. This is good advise for anyone with a normal constitution, but for me it wasn’t needed and I soon poured that little jug of heaven over the pancake!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3002-1.jpg
TG was exceptionally brave and returned to grumpy chef man to request two fried eggs to go with his hot stuff, but Grumpy had already been replaced by another chef by then! Phew! He also had pancakes, pizza, bacon and waffles.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3004-1.jpg
Onto dessert. I had some banana nut bread which was a little dry, but OK, a chocolate croissant which was good, and decided to also try the famed breakfast lasagna. Now look at my plate – I think that is a perfectly respectable sized piece of food! Lady Annoys-Me-a-Lot told me off for taking such a big bit before I was sure whether I liked it or not – would she rather I tried a bit up there off the serving spoon before deciding?!! And she forced TG to try a bit of mine (which he hated!). Anyway I liked it, it’s a little weird and not something I could eat everyday, but nice for a change! I would try it again.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3006-1.jpg
TG had some Krispy Kreme holes (KK’s on a buffet!!) and these were quite good. I seem to have failed to take a picture of his plate though – oopsie – so have one of the big guy instead!
What a geek!!!!!!!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3008-1.jpg
All in all this was very nice (with the exception of the server), the food was a good quality and the atmosphere and location as nice as ever. It seemed to take the characters much longer to get round than in the evening, so plan on eating slowly! I give this 9/10. TG says “8/10 - annoying waitress, lasagne was weird. Good KKs though, and fresh eggs”. He’s so much more concise than me!!!
Wondering around MK a couple of hours later and we happened upon Aloha Isle. I wasn’t in the slightest bit hungry, it was just instinct to order a pineapple float as I hadn’t had one so far this trip, which was very naughty. TG went for a vanilla soft serve. This was by far the hottest day of the trip so far and these things were melting like crazy and dripping all over us . . . that made us grumpy and combined with the fact we weren’t hungry resulted in about half of each being binned I am ashamed to say. They were very, very nice, as ever, but we just didn’t need them. It was the only time I got upset with myself over unnecessary calories the whole trip (which if you go by how much we ate really isn’t bad going!!). Here they are, what a waste!!! I still give it 8/10 – those whips are pure quality! TG “annoying as they overfill the pot, giving you about 5 seconds to eat it before it liquidises. 5/10”
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3022-1.jpg
So off to lunch and my spur of the moment (well last night which counts as last minute when you have been planning meals for a year) booking at Grand Floridian Café. First off, what a lovely room! Really light and airy, and much bigger than it looked from the outside. We had a lovely, friendly waitress. I ordered the Roast Beef Sandwich - balsamic onions, pesto mayonnaise, arugula ssalad, and tomatoes served on focaccia with marinated cucumber salad or home made chips and TG ordered the Rustic Chicken Sandwich - herb-marinated chicken breast with cold smoked vine ripe tomatoes, cheddar, pesto mayonnaise and arugula salad served on warm ciabatta bread with marinated cucumber salad or homemade potato chips (but TG had fries!)
The hard to find pink lemonade!

So, did we like the food at this place, which we had not researched and had hardly seen any reviews of?
Does this help answer it?!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3068-1.jpg
Licked clean people!!!!!!!!! By far the best sandwich of the trip, the bread was light, the filling just the right amount, the pesto mayo was divine, and the hand-cooked chips – perfection!!!!!! To be fair it is double the price of a sandwich at the Earl of Sandwich, so you gotta pick your battles, but for a change from there this was absolutely lovely. 10/10. SOOOO on our to-do list next year! TG also loved his and gave it 9/10 “excellent food, nice atmosphere” – to get a 10 it apparently needed more pesto mayo! Some people just have no idea of balance!!!!
Then guess what happened . . . paid in cash . .. server comes up and says “sorry we have no coins so I have had to keep some of your change”!!!!!! Is this a new Disney policy started today?! Look after the pennies and the millions will take care of themselves?! I just find it impossible to believe two restaurants have NO change in them, and if they really haven’t got any then surely they should give extra change to the guests rather than short changing them?! Again I know its only a few pence and obviously we gave her a tip on top of that, but I just don’t like feeling ripped off!! Grrrr! BUT lovely place and great food - not ruined at all by this!!
Apparently we didn’t snack in the afternoon – I find that hard to believe but there are no photo’s so we will go with it. Which takes us to dinner at Raglan Road. We went here twice in 2006 as we loved it so much, and so had saved this for the last night of the trip . . . really looking forward to it!
Arrived and were seated pretty much straight away. We like to be traditional so we ordered a pint of Guinness for TG and a Baileys for me. Sweet nectar, I so adore Baileys. Laughed hysterically when TG’s “pint” arrived – I think pints must be measured differently in the US as this was about a third smaller than ours!!! You would think they would measure it the Irish way, but nope! Luckily measures of Baileys are the same worldwide.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3081-1.jpg
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3082-1.jpg
I had known for two years what I was having to start – the Goats Town (Irish goats cheese terrine made with sauteed garlic, shallots, ****ake mushroom. Served with grilled crostini). I LOVE goats cheese with a passion and had it both visits last time – I was so scared they would take it off the menu in the meantime, but phew – there it was! TG went for the Heaven on Earth (baby back ribs in a Guinness and honey glace).
Here I made a fatal error. I had been planning for my entrée to have the ribs plus a side of asparagus, all my fave things in one meal (apart from wings, darn it). Then I saw the sausages on the menu, and I love sausages but only ever have the low-fat ones at home (which lets be honest, are naff) so I made a snap decision to have these. NEVER ever alter your plans, what was I thinking?! TG went for the fish and chips. The actual dish I went for isn’t on allears, but it was guinness sausages and mash, in beef stew.
Firstly they bring out bread and oil to dip it in. The bread was very dense and well flavoured - we just had one slice each - how's that for willpower?!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3083-1.jpg
First the goats town, just as good as I remembered. You get SO much goats cheese its just to die for, a nice amount of salad and a really good dressing on it. There is nothing about this dish that would stop me ordering it a million times over.
Goats Town
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3084-1.jpg
TG let me have one of his ribs (OK, “let” is a bit of a strong word, was whined into submission is closer to the truth) and this was really good – quite meaty and gorgeous flavour. Already I was regretting not ordering these for my entrée.
Heaven on Earth
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3086-1.jpg
Onto entrees. TG’s fish and chips arrived and looked and smelled absolutely divine. Now I was also regretting not having these. He wolfed every bite down without passing so much as a solitary chip in my direction, so I figure they were good.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3087-1.jpg
My sausage and mash arrived. Now don’t get me wrong – these were good quality and really tasty – But I just didn’t fancy them!!!! I wanted ribs or fish and chips!!! Why did I dally with my plans?! Plonker!!! Like I say it was very nice (I wouldn’t want to put you off it), but just not what I wanted at that time. I ate about half of it. The only complaint is that instead of gravy it is served with beef stew, so in the middle of my mash I had a couple of lumps of beef – I didn’t like that!! It needed proper gravy, and also a lot of it – I like to drown my sausages!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3088-1.jpg
The plus side of this being that as I only ate half of my entrée we were good to go for dessert!!! TG likes bread and butter pudding (I despise it and so would you if you were raised on my mothers ghastly attempts at it, bless her) so I recommended Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding to him from all the reviews I had read on here about it. I went for the crème brulee (which isn’t on Allears either). TG loved the pudding, though did say you need more room in the bowl to fit all the sauce in! I tried a bit and didn’t like it! Darn my mothers cooking!!!!!!!! The crème brulee was very nice and light, more like a cheesecake than a tart though. To be honest I thought it wasn’t quite as good as the one in France in Epcot, and France’s was cheaper so I would probably go for that one again given the choice.

The waitress was lovely, we finished eating about 8.50 and she asked if we wanted to stay at our table and hear the band at 9pm. We had a sweet young Irish couple at the next table who had moved to America the day before and were starting work at Raglan Road two days later. They looked so nervous I didn’t know whether to hug them or lock them away and steal their identities so we could stay!! I did neither which is quite impressive.
All in all an excellent night and will definitely return again next year. Its not their fault I ordered the wrong entrée, and the food was all well cooked, excellently flavoured, and really good quality. I give it 9/10. TG - “good food, bit too dingy in there for my liking, pudding was also excellent. 9/10 (loses a mark for the dinginess)” . This is my fave place at DTD though House of Blues is an exceptionally close second!
Coming up . . . last day. Breakfast at CRT, lunch at Beaches and Cream.

I just love reading your trip report!!! I have rounded up to a 1.00 when giving change back if I didn't have enough. I can't believe they would just keep your change.. WOW..Those sandwiches look small at the grand Floridian but they sure look yummy!!!

Great update!!! I too would be totally shocked by large-scale restaurants having NO change! That is just ridiculous!! And you're right, if that truly is the case - then the change gets rounded up in the customer's favor - not just kept!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm also in disbelief over your CP server - commenting on how much of something you took??? Please, mind your own business, and let me eat my breakfast - oh, and go get the juice!! LOL!!! You two have great attitudes and great appetites!!!! Loving these reviews!

The server at CP sounded terrible especially with the tip  But the food looked lovely and you got your MM pancake :rotfl:
The sandwiches do look yummy at GFC and what a nice change from a park restaurant!

Seriously that is terrible, keeping the money, I know Brits have a bad rep for tipping but if someone pulled that stunt on me, (both the keeping my money cause they didn't have change and the keeping my change because they thought they could have it for a tip) they certainly wouldn't be getting beggar all tip for the dishonesty of it all.
I like the look of that chocolate chip pancake, I might have to ask for one of those when we visit. It is our last meal at WDW, maybe i will have to ask for 5 just to get me through the rest of the day.

I adore Raglan Road and cannot wait to return.... but I ordered the Bread Pudding based on everything I'd read here (had never had it before) and didn't like it. But that's no fault of the pudding!:rotfl:

What a rude waitress you had at CP & what's up with the WDW restaurants not having change? It seems to be a common thread on several posts I've read recently. It's not like they need the money.
On to better things... my DS ate the same sandwich at GF Cafe while DD & I had tea at GV Lounge & he also enjoyed it. Thanks for keeping us drooling over our keyboards.:cool1:

I think keeping the change is just like stealing. No thank you! I will wait until somehow you find some change or give me a dollar. I will sit there all day and wait. I will call managers and managers of managers. I am just a mean old lady.

No you are not just a mean old lady that is just absolutly ridiculous about them keeping the change at the table service restaurants. We hardly ever carry cash so I never saw anything like that happen to us but I think I will pay cash at a few places and see what happens next trip.

Thanks for your latest reviews, great as always. I cannot believe how rude your CP server was. We were lucky last year with the sweetest old lady server in there who couldn't do enough for us. I can definitely recommend the fish and chips at RR for your next trip.

So here we are on our last day, I don’t know about you but I can never fully appreciate the time I still have left in Disney on the last day, I am always too depressed that in a few hours we will be on a plane heading back to the land of rain. Guess I’m a glass half-empty person! :(
Breakfast today was at Cinderella’s Royal Table. I only got the urge to go here about three weeks before we flew out (reading reviews on here is so dangerous once you have made your ADR’s!), and was really lucky to get an ADR! This was literally the only slot for breckie or lunch they had free for our entire trip! We were so lucky!
Our ADR was for 8.30, got there a few minutes early, and by the time we had our picture taken with Cinderella our name was being called – lovely! We were seated quite near the entrance, up on a ledge (it felt like!) rather than being down the steps in the main part of the room, so we felt a tiny bit out of things (there were about 6 other tables there as well so we weren’t alone).
Our server wasn’t the best. She was Ok, we got drinks and food quickly. But I thought we were supposed to get an option of whether we wanted the hot food or a “healthy” plate. We didn’t get the option we were both given the hot stuff – amazingly I was actually going to go for the healthy plate for once as I love your granola! She also asked TG if he wanted any more food (it is pre-plated but eat all you want) and didn’t ask me!! Does she know who she is dealing with?!!! I felt a bit hurried as well, towards the end she came up and said as we had already paid for the meal we could leave whenever we wanted, and that was the last time we saw her!! Another lady – not our server – brought us both a wand and sword when the wishing ceremony took place, which was very kind! I hate being left out!!
Atmosphere – it was lovely to be in the castle, and a gorgeous setting, but to be honest it’s the first time I have been at a character meal and felt a bit out of place. The characters were all lovely and they all had a nice chat with us (Jasmine creased me up by moaning about marriage and saying she had been married 12 years and it was hard work. I couldn’t work out if she was in character or having a general whinge about men as we had our anniversary badges on!! Is the film Aladdin 12 years old?!). No I just felt a bit out of place as we were the only people there without kids – usually in other character meals there are quite a lot of couples / families without children, but here I couldn’t see any others. I felt a bit like we had gatecrashed a party we were too old for. TG didn’t feel like this at all though, so like I said earlier, maybe I was just a bit gloomy as it was out last day! We had been up since 6am packing which I HATE which did not help the mood situation (and yes, we did have to buy an extra suitcase - again!!)!
Onto food! Well, I was glad I didn’t get offered the option of a healthy plate because –with the exception of Tonga Toast – this was the best quality breakfast food we had all trip. The sausages were good – really thick and meaty not like those spindly little things we had been getting at the buffets. I LOVED the potato casserole (potato and cheese, what’s not to like) and was fully intending to order more of it, had she have bothered to ask me if I wanted it! I don’t usually like French toast, but this was the best I have ever had! It actually tasted quite like a waffle to me – lovely! Really nice berry sauce drizzled on it as well. Scrambles eggs I can also take or leave usually, but again these were excellent – fresh and not runny. I seem to remember the bacon being nice as well! The fruit was nice, not much you can do to mess that up! Only slight disappointment was the danish basket – I grabbed the only croissant as I loved the one at Crystal Palace yesterday, and it was rock hard! Nearly broke a tooth!! So I had a muffin instead which was OK.
Hot stuff, not much but it was good! :thumbsup2
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3111-1-1.jpg
You can see the fruit here
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3119-1-1.jpg
All in all very nice, for food I would definitely give it 9/10, but server 7/10! I don’t know if I would go back though, it’s a lot of money for breakfast for what you get. I won’t grade on the atmosphere because I think it was me who felt funny, not the place. Maybe I am getting too old for princesses?!!!!! :scared1:
TG says “9/10 excellent quality food, very fresh and good atmos”. I think he liked the ladies here . . .
Again, I can find no photo’s of snacks during the morning!! Don’t know what went wrong . . . I can’t believe we didn’t have any! So on to lunch.
We weren’t in a rush to be anywhere so didn’t mind how long the wait for Beaches and Cream was. We arrived about 1.30 and it was anarchy!! People were handing back their buzzers left right and centre and complaining about the wait before walking off! Do your research then people, you gotta get there for 12 if you don’t want to wait. The hostess on the podium looked frankly horrified when we approached and asked for a table, I think she though someone else was about to kick off!! We said we didn’t mind how long the wait was and we didn’t mind whether we had table or counter seat which soothed her. She said it would be about an hour, so we went off to the bar in the Yacht Club for a drink. They had WINGS on the bar menu, I was SO close to ordering them – I couldn’t bear the thought that those horrible wings in Bahama Breeze would be my last taste of American wings for a year, but I resisted. My strength shocks me sometimes. ::yes::
We got buzzed after about 45 minutes, counter seats worst luck!!! In retrospect I would probably ask to wait for a table. It was nice being able to see everything being made, but I felt a bit on display perched up there! Waiter was very nice and efficient.
Well we both knew after eating there before that we wanted burgers and fries. TG ordered a double cheese burger and fries. I had never had a double burger in my life . .. . but it was so good the other day that I ordered one as well!! With cheese of course. On the understanding with TG that if we had double burgers we would definitely have to resist the kitchen sink . . .
Oh we had a strawberry milkshake as well to share. So thick and creamy and GOOD.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3165-1.jpg
Burgers and fries . . . simply divine. There is not a duff calorie on the plate! The burgers are moist, the bread is light and soft, and the fries are crisp but not dry or greasy. I even ate the pickle! And I managed a double burger with ease it seems . . .
Only one piccie as we had exactly the same as each other! Proving sadly that I can eat as much as any man
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3166-1.jpg
Onto dessert. It seems I had over icecreamed this trip, I just didn’t fancy the kitchen sink anymore. This is the closest we got to it sadly!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG3171-1.jpg
So instead I went for the brownie a la mode (brownie with cream and icecream) and TG went for the Milky Way Sundae (bundt cake topped with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, butterscotch, whipped cream and a cherry). I swear his sundae was even bigger than the one he had last time, and he ate it all! I ate the brownie and cream, and left the icecream – why I didn’t just order it without the icecream is beyond me. This was good! Massive brownie, and gooey inside and crisp on the top, just as it should have been. Whole meal is a big 10/10!
TG “10/10, not as good sitting at the bar, but still top food”

And that was it!!!!!!! We mooched around DTD for a while trying to put off the inevitable, then got to the airport around 5pm for our 7pm flight . . . which had been delayed until 10.30!! Thank you Virgin! So my final meal in the US was a large pack of ready salted chips from the airport shop. Grim, but not much else to choose from once we got to the gate! Usually I wouldn’t comment on aeroplane food but Virgin annoyed me, so . . . the breakfast on board next morning was so bad even I didn’t eat it! It was the greasiest croissant ever with powdered and reformed egg in it. Utterly rancid, if you have a flight coming up with Virgin pack a breakfast!! I would quite happily have sold a kidney at that point for some tonga toast!!!
So there you have it, we came, we ate, we fitted in a few parks around our eating schedule, we ate some more, we got home, we weighed ourselves, and then we cried!!
Coming up in our final edition: summary and final thoughts on the food, favourite and worst places / foods, and our food schedule for May 09 which is already decided (though TG doesn’t know that)!!! :rotfl:

We did the lunch in Nov with 3 adult kids :17,22,23 and they had a great time. We also did hubby and myself for dinner in May for our 25th ann and it was great! No characters really just a show, great food and an anniversary gift from the Fairy Godmother! You will always feel just a bit weird w/o kids but it wasn't bad and I'm glad we went!

Monday 12th May
Finally a whole day of Disney meals!
So we decided to do something we had never managed before this vacation – make the rope drops at the parks! So for the next three days we had the same breakfast in our room for speed– Cornflakes and grapefruit that we picked up at Walmarts (another chain, I’m sorry!!) and a coffee and BEIGNETS from the foodcourt. Believe it or not from these reviews we’re not actually big breakfast people, so this was perfect for us! :)
I won’t review Cornflakes, lets focus on the Beignets! Prior to going I had wondered what on earth the fuss was about – they certainly don’t look like much! However in my mission to try every single item of food that had even been mentioned on these boards I sent TG to get an order of 3 (instead of 6, see that restraint I spoke about?!). I had 1, TG had 2. :worship: Deep fried puffed up pastry with about an inch of icing sugar on the top – what more do you need?! TG gives them 8/10, I’m a resounding 10/10! Only problem is they are really messy –best to eat before getting dressed which is easy in your room, not quite so easy in the food court. Oh, and we liked the foodcourt coffee, I know it gets slated but for a Nescafe girl it tasted nice and smooth!
We managed to make it to lunch without snacking (shocker). Lunch was booked for 12 at Chefs De France and we were one of the first taken in – got a lovely window seat. We had never been here and I had booked this restaurant on the basis on one review that I read getting on for a year ago than sung the praises of the Quiche Lorraine– I adore quiche! I was determined to just be good and have one course. Then I spotted the French Onion Soup on the menu . . . I love me some french onion soup. Sigh. I had a rather nasty incident with it in LA last year which I feared may have put me off it forever  , but there it was, calling to me – who was I to deny it?! So I ordered that and the quiche – TG ordered the soup and the croque monsieur (toasted ham and cheese sandwich).
Rolls came first – nice – soft and warm. I had half, which I’m probably means TG had 1 and a ½! Then the soup arrived. It was seriously lovely. Rich good quality soup, shed loads of onion, lots of bread and cheese on top– we both loved it and licked the bowls clean. One of the nicest I have ever had.
Entrée – Both dishes came with a small salad which had a nice dressing on it. TG’s croque monsieur was lovely – really light yet filling, just the right amounts of ham and cheese. I tasted a tiny bit and loved it. I wished I had ordered it . . . . the quiche was a bit of a let down after a years drooling for one vital reason – it was HOT! I don’t like hot quiche! I like it to be chilled so the eggy goo sets firmly!!! To be fair the pastry was light and crumbly, and there was loads of filling which tasted nice – it just wasn’t what I had been imagining. If you like hot quiche (like most normal people do) I’m sure you would love it. TG gives his meal 10/10 and says it was one of the best meals of the trip. I give mine 8.5/10 (soup 10, quiche 7). We thought the food was really good quality, the restaurant was elegant, service excellent and will definitely return.
Mid afternoon we found ourselves in need of a rest so headed to the Fountain View café, where we could sit outside and people watch. We both had waffle cones – I had one scoop of good old chocolate and TG has 2 scoops – one vanilla and one rainbow sherbet. Both excellent – sometimes you just need some icecream.
Dinner! Boma was booked for about 7.30pm . I booked this because of all the good reviews. It took a heck of a lot of arm twisting of TG – he is not very adventurous when it comes to food but eventually he agreed to give it a try – yey! We arrived a few minutes early, and had to wait what felt like ages to be seated (prob about 15 mins). Got to our table. Waited, and waited, and waited. After about 15 mins we still hadn’t seen a waiter to even give a drink order. Ordinarily we would have just gone up to the buffet and got cracking, but I had read on here from other people about the waiters explaining about all the different pods and what was on them, so we waited.
What to do while waiting . . . take loads of pictures of yourself!!!!
After about 10 mins our waiter hussled up, moaned about how busy he was, took our drinks orders and cleared off again. Not a word about the food!!! We decided to be take on the spirit of adventure and go forth to the food.
1st plate – I had the three types of hummus (chick pea, tomato and bean I think???), and African bread (which was crisp) and pitta bread to mop it up. Also had some sort of coconut salad, and a teensy tiny bit of watermelon rind salad. All lovely apart from the watermelon rind salad – what the heck possesses anyone to eat that?! TG surprised me by trying hummus (he never has any when I have it at home) the two breads and I think some salad. I made him try the watermelon rind as well. Why suffer alone?! I think he spat it into a tissue, so also not a great endorsement.
Appetizers
2nd plates – we both had roughly the same. I had some cornbread which I had decided I was going to try this year (never had it before!) – So moist - loved it!!! How have I never had any before!? We both tried falafel which we had never had before, sausage, chicken (tenders for me, roast for TG), potatoes with Afritude, coconut rice and corn. All very good and well flavoured, a really nice surprise! The chef did see fit to explain to me what a sausage was which made me laugh! Obviously I looked bemused, but I was more bemused that they had big pork sausages in Africa, rather than not knowing what it was!! The only thing I wasn’t so keen on was a beef and lamb mix (looked like a pie) with what resembled pastry on the top, but was actually more of an egg topping – sort of like lasagne. TG loved it and had seconds! Which was surprising to me as at home he won’t eat lamb so I have to cook 2 meals whenever I want it!!! Actually he had seconds of most of the above, I just had a little more rice (love coconut) and another falafel. I started off liking those but went off them the more I had!!!
Our first entrees
On to dessert and something I had been waiting to try for months – zebra domes. I knew I would like them so grabbed 2! I also had crunchy choc mousse, banana bread and warm vanilla sauce, pineapple cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake. Whew! Chocolate crunchy mousse was Ok – bit flavourless, the pineapple cheesecake was good – really rich. The banana bread and warm vanilla sauce was a revelation – I really loved that. Zebra Domes . .. . sorry but I don’t get them!! Can’t put my finger on why, but I didn’t love them. They were just OK; TG said the same. They were squishier than I expected. I was stuffed so just picked at all those desserts and didn’t finish much!
TG had a plate of fresh fruit, with cookies and then somefruit tarts (I think) I was too full to lift the camera by then.
All in all we really liked it! TG says “Boma surprised me how tasty it was” so pass that on if you have any picky eaters in your group who are dithering about going! He scored it 9/10. Me 8/10. The service didn’t pick up much all night so I just hope you don’t get our server! Will definitely return.
SO! There we are full up for the night. . . :rotfl2: ;)
NOPE!!!! Because we had been to Epcot today. And what do Epcot have that I have been reading about for months?! That’s right – schoolbread!!!!! We had brought one earlier and put it in our fridge for safe keeping. Got back to the room and panic overcame us – what if it went stale overnight?! We wanted to give it a fair review, and in order to be fair surely the food had to be fresh!? Yep, we cracked into it. TG was so desperate he cut it in half before I could get a piccie, so this is a cross-section for you.
Hands off girls - this romantic fool is all mine!!!!!!!
I only ate ½ of my half (someone else stuffed all of his!) but that was enough to discover the pure exquisiteness! How do they make bread and custard that light?! And who thought to put coconut on top?! The Norwegians are geniuses. Loved this, we gave it 9/10 each – I can’t remember why not 10. Possibly because it was really sickly and we had started it after a rather large buffet?!
So another days stuffing over – I estimate 20000 calories and I don’t think I even managed one portion of fruit and veg. I love vacation!!!!!
Up tomorrow – FQ foodcourt again, Flame Tree BBQ lunch and Cheesecake Factory dinner. Plus our first visit too Ghirardellis.
I absolutely love your reviews--you are very comical (you remind me of me) :)
Keep it coming--looking forward to the upcoming reviews!!

Your TR has inspired me to book a solo trip for a weekend in September, and I have no ADRs planned, (as I have about 7 booked for December), but I AM going to get to Beaches and Cream for a burger (they look divine), and Earl of Sandwich. All CS, I'm thinkin'. But I will get a schoolbread and a magic cookie bar, as I'm staying at POR for the first time.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Alright, now you've done it. That last review was so good, I'm sad there won't be anymore!
However, I am anxiously awaiting the recap, and hoping you go again soon, so I can read more food reviews!:thumbsup2
But seriously, thanks for writing them. Because of your reviews, I changed my ADRs for my upcoming trip to include the Grand Floridian Cafe, and I'm really excited about it. And I now know I absolutely must make it to Beaches and Cream for a No Way Jose, and I know my DH would be all over that Milky Way sundae! Too funny, the comment about your dear man not looking at you like that!:rotfl2:

Hi:wave:
I just found your Dining TR today and I must say my stomach is hurting from looking at all the food. I WAS going to finish the whole TR before replying but this picture caught my eye and made me laugh. With all the sugar you guys had been eating, did you decide not to have any more in your coffee and use Splenda instead? :rotfl2: Nothing like using Splenda to give yourself the excuse to eat more sugary stuff. I thought this was hysterical!!:lmao:
I am really enjoying your TR. Hope you have the cornbread & chili dog knowledge down for your naturalization test. Since you like the biscuits and gravy, you might want to study that one too! Sawmill gravy and biscuits are my FAVORITE! Next time you're in the US, try going to a Cracker Barrel for every meal of the day, their biscuits and gravy are the best! :thumbsup2

That is very good to know. I really do want to go because even thought I am now 29 I still think I am a princess lol!

I have loved your reviews, thanks for sharing. I am always miserable on the last day too (and usually the last full day as well), maybe it is something to do with coming back to the English weather! I am trying to persuade hubby about trying CRT, may have more success if bump is a girl!

Then on to the hot stuff. I had some bacon which was the best bacon of the trip, some breakfast potatoes which I loved, and a biscuit and gravy (which we really need to get into eating in the UK – SO good!),
 Biscuit, gravy  I don't know how anyone can enjoy having, what to us seemed a bit like sausage and mushroom congealed soup on top of a scone - FOR BREAKFAST! Maybe we just got a bad one, but that dish will forever steer clear of my breakfast plate (I do quite like the "biscuits" on their own though:) ).
Great reviews yet again, by the way - I can't believe they're all over
Oh, well, on the plus side, I might actually have time to finish my own reviews now :lmao:

Another great installment. I have been dying to try Raglan Road...I think i must next trip!
Yes do, out of three meals there I have never had anything bad!
.Those sandwiches look small at the grand Floridian but they sure look yummy!!!
They were small compared to what we had been getting at EoS, but good things come in little packages (so they tell me), and boy was that a yumsome sarnie!!!
I know! She got right on my wick, kept me from my food with her incessant yapping, AND ripped me off! The ultimate insults!
The sandwiches do look yummy at GFC and what a nice change from a park restaurant!
It was really peaceful, we are definitely going back next year! Sometimes you just need to get out of the manic parks!!
Kirsten
I did wonder if it was because we were British!!!:rotfl2: And I had been so good all trip, tipping what they suggested on the cheque trying to build up the British name!!
Last Day - DEFINITELY deserves at least 5 pancakes! ::yes:: Chocolate is well known for keeping depression at bay!
I adore Raglan Road and cannot wait to return.... but I ordered the Bread Pudding based on everything I'd read here (had never had it before) and didn't like it. But that's no fault of the pudding!:rotfl:
Thanks so much for the amazingly great reviews! You and your DH seem like an awesome couple!!
I know, I was hoping it was better than my mums, but she has tainted soggy bread for life for me I'm afraid!!! Still, at least I didn't waste my order on it!
Yes bless TG, would you put up with me?!!!:rotfl: :confused3
Thanks for the review of RR, can't wait to go for the first time next trip!:cool1:
You will love it! Oly 4 months left for you!!
I showed Aaron the pics from your dinner and he was super excited! He loves a good plate of fish and chips.
It is so sad though that your trip report is coming to an end.
He is so right, when you are starved nothing hits the spot like greasy fish and chips! Can't believe I didn't order them!!:confused3
Hon, may I just say that after reading that wonderful review I'm STARVING!
I'm so bummed, I want to go on my vacation right now! Thanks for the great reviews, I'm really enjoying them...so much so that I thought about trying to fit in the Grand Floridian Cafe, you raved about it so! I still might...hmmm...:goodvibes
I'm starving after re-living it!!!!!
Oh try fit it in! Really nice atmosphere and so nice to get away from manic MK (even though its my fave place on earth!)
What a rude waitress you had at CP & what's up with the WDW restaurants not having change? It seems to be a common thread on several posts I've read recently. It's not like they need the money.
:
Really?! I thought we had just had a bad day. Thats really bad form if that's some sort of new policy! I wonder what they would have done if we had demanded it!
I just spent an hour reading all your reviews. They are GREAT!! I am sad this is coming to an end. You guys are the BEST eaters ever. :thumbsup2 I wish I could pack all that away. I would probably die. I actually got a stomach ache reading it, but I loved every minute of it. I am dying to read yor last day!!!!
Well it was a tough job doing it, but I had to do my duty and eat it all so I could review it. The things I do for you . . .
I completely agree! I should have made more of a fuss really, I thought there was no point as we still had to leave a tip, but there is a principle involved!!::yes::
Thanks for your latest reviews, great as always. I cannot believe how rude your CP server was. We were lucky last year with the sweetest old lady server in there who couldn't do enough for us. I can definitely recommend the fish and chips at RR for your next trip.

Brilliant job!
I swear I gained 20 pounds just reading!
Well I hope its easier for you to lose than it is for me!!!!
It is a shame you felt out of place at CRT. I really want to go there next year when Aaron and I take an adults only trip to WDW. Now I just don't know because I was already apprehensive about going sans child.
I am so sad to see your tr come to an end. I can not wait for the next one.
Honestly, just take that at face value, I was VERY "eeyore" that morning! TG didn't feel like that at all and you would think a man would feel even more out of place at a princess meal! Its the only character meal I have ever felt like that at so I'm sure it was just the gloom! I bet you will both go and have a great time!
Can't wait to see your fav/worst lists and your schedule for '09!!
TG can't wait either!!!!:rotfl2:

Beaches and Cream - I think its now my fave place now! Will you have room for a sundae? And enjoy that magic cookie bar - make sure you do reviews when you get back so I know they are still there!:thumbsup2

Sad to say, the one closest to Vegas is 89.59 miles away, but there are four within 10 miles of Disney.
:offtopic:Oh, and the Spanish thing, that made me laugh again. I'm a Latina (all of my grandparents and my father were born in Puerto Rico, but moved to New York), living in a VERY South American neighborhood, and it's funny and sad at the same time b/c it's the only language that's spoken around here. The parents come here and don't take the time to learn English and I think it's debilitating for their children, who have to work 2x as hard in school to keep up. But if you learn Spanish, you'll fit in, because of the large Hispanic population, definitely.
Back to food...
I"m going to Rose and Crown in Epcot for dinner on the 24th of December. What do you suggest?

Wednesday 21st May
I am pleased to report the food was as good as remembered! Thank goodness!! The garlic bread in Pizza Hut is to die for. Buttered so thickly on both sides that it meets in the middle, and cooked to perfection. This was wolfed down in 10 seconds flat. Garlic bread is a 10/10 every time for us!

ohhhhh, garlic bread . . . . . ! I'm sooo hungry right now, and I'd tell you what the thought of garlic bread does to me, but this is a "G" rated board . . . . . . !;)
The only thing better is garlic CHEESE bread with mozzarella and cheddar.
We don't have dine-in Pizza Huts here in the Dallas area, only delivery outlets, wonder if thats a good thing since I can't see the kitchens ? hmmmmm. . . . . .

Beaches and Cream - I think its now my fave place now! Will you have room for a sundae? And enjoy that magic cookie bar - make sure you do reviews when you get back so I know they are still there!:thumbsup2
You are so lucky to be staying at POR. It was beautiful. I am longing to go back to either of the Port Orleans resorts, rather than following the fake nuclear cheese to Pop!!!!!!!!!!!
Ten months to wait, but then it will be three weeks worth of food - I'm so not going to fit in my plane seat on the way home, and I wish I was joking!!!!!
Oh my, this is a lot of pressure people changing ADR's because of me!! I LOVE THE POWER!!!!:rotfl:
Did you see the milky ways sticking out of the sundae - whole bars of them just wedged in there!!! Its no wonder he was drooling :lovestruc Man I LOVE Disney food!
Oh you have made laugh SO hard!! All of the rubbish I eat, yet I always go for the low-calorie sugar - I never even realised I was doing it!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl2: That is too funny! I keep telling you all I am healthy deep down!
Oh I will try a Cracker Barrell thanks -is there one in Vegas I wonder?
I tell you I am so ready for my NationaliZation test - I have booked us both us for Spanish lessons starting in September so we can put "multi-lingual" on our applications -thats gotta impress them, right?!!!!::yes::
You are most welcome!:goodvibes
I'm 30 and I'm an Eeyore, it happens overnight!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Thank you very much! This is such a nice way of reliving the trip!
Just tell him the princesses will make a real fuss of him - TG loved it!!All these women holding his arm and calling him Prince Charming - its no wonder I was a grumpster!!!
And the food was very tasty which helped!
See I LOVE them - I AM so born to be American!!!! What's not to like? Doughy yet light biscuit - good. Creamy sauce - good. I admit it tastes more like chicken then sausage to me, but I'm willing to let that go!!!!!!:)
The only American thing I don't like is Twinkies! TG loves them - shocker!!:rotfl2:
Welcome!!! You will hear a lot about the magic bars!!!!!! I likes them a lot!
I just read the part about you not knowing how to multi-quote.
I see you got a handle on that!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That Tonga Toast looks like a cardiac arrest on a plate, now how to fit it in on our trip????
...... Hmmmmm (looking at schedule) there must be away.
OK found a spare day, is it that good that it is worth,
1. Dropping In-laws at Seaworld
2. Parking at MK
3. Taking monorail to Captain Cooks
4. Pick up Tonga Toast
5. Head to MK.
Kirsten
Definitely try to fit it in your schedule!! It is wonderful!!! Back in 06 when I went we went to Kona Cafe every morning for breakfast--1 because we loved the coffee and 2--the TONGA TOAST!! It is a must have for every Disney vacation!:cloud9:

Thoughts, Summaries, and Musings if you will . . .
All in all we loved the food this trip (it was well worth the weight gain!), and there were so many places we never would have tried without this forum! When I look back at 2006 we were such amateurs even though we had been quite a few times before – we didn’t make any ADR’s until we arrived and didn’t even realise we could go eat in the hotels! Now I have a separate countdown going for days until November when I can book next years ADR’s – its all part of the fun now!!
We really didn’t have a bad meal at all on-site, a few dodgy bits of food and a few more than dodgy servers, but we would probably return to most places we tried (Well I wouldn’t go back to Flame Tree BBQ, TG wouldn’t go back the Whispering Canyon, and neither of us have been able to face a KFC since the one on 192), but when you look at everything we ate that’s not bad odds!!
So on to our favourites and worst’s in case you haven’t been keeping up! This is really hard to narrow down and as you will see, in most cases I didn’t!! Honourable mention is for somewhere not awarded another “medal” but that was still all round good!
BEST:- TG

buffet food: Chef Mickey
sundae : Fudge Mudslide at B&C

snack: Magic Cookie Bar (2nd place to Ice Cream Cookie from Main St and Goofys MYO)
service: 50’s Prime Time, Cheesecake Factory runners up
ONSITE place overall: Beaches and Cream, but Prime Time VERY close 2nd
character interaction; Crystal Palace (bet you saw that one coming!!)
Lunch: Chefs De France (2nd place to GF Café)
Ribs: Tony Romas (honourable mention to HoB as preferred the sides!)
Wings: Tony Romas

WORST:- TG

buffet food: Golden corral
Sundae: Ghirardellis cookie bottom

ONSITE place overall: Patisserie, Epcot (think willy wonka!)
character interaction: Chef Mickey
lunch: Columbia Harbour House
Ribs: Whispering Canyon
Wings: N/A
Donuts: KKs from 192
Sandwich: Plaza
Biggest onsite EoS
disappointment:
Worst surprise: no fries at KFC
WORST:- ME
meal : Bahama Breeze
buffet food: Golden Corrall (not bad, just hard to compare to Disney!)
Sundae: Ghirardellis Brownie – not as good as I remember
dessert: Trails End (yucky rice crispie treat)
snack : Rice Crispie treats everywhere
service : Very torn between Boma, or the people at Pop
ONSITE place overall: Flame Tree BBQ – bad ribs, bad beans – Scary BIG birds
character interaction: Chef Mickey, was a bit rushed
lunch: I will never forget the nuclear cheese at Pop’s foodcourt
Ribs: Bahama Breeze – dishonourable mention to Flame Tree BBQ!
Wings: Bahama Breeze
Donuts: KK’s from 192
Sandwich : EoS Beef and Blue – not as I remembered it
Biggest onsite Whispering Canyon, too scary!
disappointment:
Worst surprise: The state of the KFC!!!!!!!!!
Musing of the day . . . wouldn’t it be good to have photopass photographers at the meals? I’d love to have some really good pictures of my food!
Coming next . . . next years food plan - the best of the best!!

TG looks great! Did he lose all of his weight? You said before you gained 7 lbs -- that is not bad AT ALL!!! That's pretty good, given all that you ate.
How are you and TG going about losing the weight? I have the hardest time getting back on track when I get home. I behave worse than when I'm there. I guess it's because I didn't take FULL advantage of eating EVERYTHING I want, and I bring snacks back, too. Love those malted milk balls from the gift shops.
I will answer all your messages tomorrow, now off to bed! Just before I go, this was our anniversary last week . . . now that's what I call a good selection of perfectly cooked KK's - Florida, take note!
And as I'm on diet I ONLY had three :rotfl2: :rotfl: :confused3

Excellent news! I was hoping Spanish was a good choice! We were both lousy at French at school so there was no point trying that again!
Hmm Rose and Crown . . . now I have never actually eaten there. We had an ADR there in 2006, but after waiting over an hour to be seated we stormed off and swore never to return, muttering loudly about "typical British service"!!!:rotfl2: But looking at the menu I would either have fish and chips or the lamb. I absolutely adore lamb and never get it at home as TG hates it :furious:
Oh I have just realised you will be there on Christmas Eve! I'd do anything to see the parks at Christmas!!
ohhhhh, garlic bread . . . . . ! I'm sooo hungry right now, and I'd tell you what the thought of garlic bread does to me, but this is a "G" rated board . . . . . . !;)
The only thing better is garlic CHEESE bread with mozzarella and cheddar.
We don't have dine-in Pizza Huts here in the Dallas area, only delivery outlets, wonder if thats a good thing since I can't see the kitchens ? hmmmmm. . . . . .
I am so with you! There is nothing like garlic bread when you are hungry!
No dine-in pizza huts?!! :scared1: Even where I live we have three!! I will trade you one if you send us a Krispy Kreme shop . . .
Honeybee30,
I thought the same thing about her husband--they are definitely look alikes!!
He's a bit worried you all think he looks like the dude out of "that" cowboy film!!!!!

Yes he has lost most of his weight now so I am suffering alone. He has SUCH a fast metabolism, it just kills me!!!
Once I weigh myself I find it pretty easy to get back on track!! I am in most danger when I get near to my normal weight again, then the treats start sneaking in!! I go down to 1500 calories a day and eat foods with 5% fat or less in them only. I used to be an aerobic instrutor so I work out at home rather than the gym - I exercise 5 times a week and walk the dogs each day. HOPEFULLY when I weigh mysef Sunday that should all have taken effect - if not they will hear my screams of despair in Florida!!!! I used to only do aerobics but I just bought myself a treadmill to "learn" how to run. I keep thinking how nice it will be on the Magic next year to run round the deck at sunrise each morning!! Its going OK, I can run for half an hour non-stop, but its a pretty slow pace!:rotfl:
I've absolutely loved your reviews, so sad it's over. And I've now realised I have to fit a trip to Beaches and Cream into our next trip based on your pics of the sundaes there!
YES I must demand you go there I'm afraid!!! Do you like peanut butter???? Have the No Way Hose -   I wished I had had it on both visits actually
Will post next years plan asap for your opinions. In the meantime if you have any questions about any of the restaurants or just want to discuss food I am more than happy to answer!!!!

Next years plans then! Well as we only have seven nights at the World we are sticking to a lot of our favourites, though changing the meal we go to them! Boma and Chef Mickeys for example we did as dinner this year, so breakfast next time, and 1900 park fare we are trying for dinner (I am dying to see the funny ugly sisters, as long as they don’t mistake me for one of them!). I want to try some new places, but we have so many that we loved this year that are just too good to miss!
Now this is all subject to change, in case I start seeing some really good / dodgy reviews on anywhere. But currently this is how it stands!! I will sort the order of the days out once the park hours are released nearer the time. I don't like not having that sorted at this late stage, but what can you do?!! :lmao:
Saturday May 2nd
Breakfast: Gatwick
Lunch: Plane
Dinner: Tony Roma’s (or possibly one of the other rib places you have recommended)
Essential snack: Big triple pack of double stuffed Oreo’s if we get time to go to Walmart!!!
Sunday May 3rd
Breakfast; Boma
Lunch: Either Pizzafari/ or Rain Forest Café (AK) for wings, or Cookes of Dublin
Dinner: 1900 Park fare
Essential snack: Goofys MYO
Monday 4th May
Breakfast: Pop
Lunch: Plaza or Liberty Tree – or possibly Kona?
Dinner: Crystal Palace
Essential snack: Main St Bakery
Tuesday 5th May
Breakfast: French Quarter (beignets!)
Lunch: Earl of Sandwich
Dinner: 50’s PTC
Essential snack: Ghirardellis
Wednesday 6th May
Breakfast: Pop
Lunch: Chefs De France
Dinner: Beaches N Cream
Essential snack: Schoolbread
Thursday 7th May
Breakfast: Chef Mickey
Lunch: Pop (nuclear cheese for TG & tye-die cheesecake for me!)
Dinner: Trails End/or House of Blues
Essential snack: Magic Cookie Bar
Friday 8th May:
Breakfast: Kona
Lunch: GF Café
Dinner: Raglan Road
Essential snack: Undecided! I know, something unplanned this late in the planning process!
Saturday 9th May
Breakfast: Pop
Lunch, dinner: Two weeks on the Disney Magic!
Saturday 23rd May
Breakfast: Disney Magic
Lunch: Universal for a Cinabbon/ or Beaches and Cream
Dinner: Plane, sob. Mental note to take food this year so we don’t get stuck with the oil-slick croissant again.
Last day is a bit undecided. We should be back in Orlando by about 10am I imagine, and our flight doesn’t go until 7pm (allegedly). Am considering doing a short day at Universal - I don’t really want to, just feel we should as we haven’t been there since 2006! But if we don’t we will probably linger round a park or DTD for a while, before heading off to either Beaches and Cream, Cheesecake Factory, or somewhere else that we hear about in the meantime that we haven’t had chance to slot in!
I don’t know how to choose between House of Blues or Trails End on the Thursday night!! I don’t know if I can go on vacation and only have babyback ribs once (first night), which is why HoB is on there (that and the fact I LOVED it), but we also really enjoyed Trails End and would like to go back there. If I find out they do ribs on the Magic then maybe I can sacrifice House of Blues! We shall see! I would also like to try Kona for dinner but don’t know when I would fit that in so am thinking about going there for lunch on one of our MK days (their wings look so good!)! I would also like to try Le Cellier for lunch just to say we have been there ... maybe I can tempt TG to go there instead of the chilli cheese dogs at Pop one day!I keep telling TG we need a four week vacation . . . wish me luck on winning the lottery for that one!!!
Roll on next May!!!!!! Three weeks worth of food reviews!! More importantly, three weeks worth of eating – help me!:scared1:
Don’t forget let me know if you have any questions etc, I am always happy to talk about food!

I am also coming out of lurkdom to tell you how much I loved your report - SO great! And it was so much fun to see the different places off property too. DH and I are going to track down the nearest Cheesecake Factory...I think we have one an hour or so away.
On your last day if you do decide to head over near Universal I can recommend a fantastic BBQ place - Bubbalou's Bodacious BBQ...DH is a BBQ addict and found this after seeing it on the Food Network for something. They are incredibly casual and good and very close to Universal.

Hey - I can't believe I didn't tell you this!
Have you tried Buffalo Wild Wings? SO SO Good! We went there on our last trip and DBF loved it! So much so, that even without a car this trip, we are doing the lynx-I Ride run to eat there :) I think they have one in LBV though! You get to choose from like 15 different sauces what you want on your wings.
They are famous for their wings (we get the boneless and they are awesome!) but get this - they do a rib and wing combo!! OR you could get wings to start and get the 'Ribs and More Ribs' main!
AND they do a chocolate peanut butter pie for dessert!

I truly enjoyed reading about all your food adventures, and you have a such a wonderful attitude, even when things are less than stellar, it really was a joy to read. I can't wait for you to take another trip so I can read another report, and your plans look awesome!
Because of your reviews, I did end up changing some of my ADRs...ah...behold the power....;)
I actually scored a lunch reservation at the Grand Floridian Cafe, and I'm very very excited about it. Those clean plates of yours just did me in! That and my parents, who for a long time owned a store/deli, had to close it this past year, and I am sooooo missing a really good sandwich.
I also know that I must must must get over to Beaches and Cream for a No Way Jose. That just looked so good, I absolutely will be fitting it in.
So thank you so much, I've loved reading this!:goodvibes

They are famous for their wings (we get the boneless and they are awesome!) but get this - they do a rib and wing combo!! OR you could get wings to start and get the 'Ribs and More Ribs' main!
AND they do a chocolate peanut butter pie for dessert!

It's all me and DBF are thinking about
Will you stop giving us more suggestions..... ;) I can't fit everything in and it is begining to depress me. :) This place looks great. Hubby will love it he hates chicken on the bone, and well lookie here its chicken not on a bone.

GOOD LORD peoples!! Those are two of the best menus EVER! I had no idea you could order wings in multiples of 100!!!!! :yay: Just told TG that we are going somewhere where I can have 100 wings -"well what am I going to have?" was the reply! Too right buddy, I ain't sharing my 100!!
But when am I going to fit both places in?!! Thats the 2nd Beaches and Cream visit gone!
Thanks for the recommendations! :thumbsup2
Thank you so much for sharing your food report with us!:goodvibes
I'm glad they helped!! I hope you like it there, just promise you will have the lovely chips and not waste tummy space on something called a cucumber salad?! Is that vacation food? NO!:goodvibes
Oh I second this!! This place is so good, especially if you have a weakness for wings. We go there at least 1-2 times a month, followed by a trip to Coldstone.
You would love it!
I'm so there!!!:thumbsup2

Vegetables? On vacation? :lmao:
Actually, I do eat my veggies on vacay, but with a sandwich like those, I like some nice fries or chips to round out my meal. And if Pooh's-Honey-Pot says so, then that's what I have to do!:goodvibes

I just wrote up a post that didn't go through...I guess my Internet is down.
Just wanted to say first and foremost, I love your trip report! I am reading it so slowly with baited breath as to prolong it's existence. I'll be so sad when it's over. Maybe for your next trip I can just tag along as the third wheel!! Food coma here I come! Honestly, though, my husband and I love eating as well! We met in the restaurant industry so I guess it was destiny.
As far as the Golden Corral and other American eats, you have me cracking up over here! My stepfather is from Gloucester and my Uncle & Aunt live in Birmingham where she works at an Italian-American restaurant (by her standards) and she says the food is crap compared to the USA which surprises me because it sounds like it's all butter/whole milk/creams and such...sounds tasty to me!
Anyway, thanks for the great trip report! I wanted to say about how at CP and GFC with the lack of coins, it sounds like your servers themselves didn't have a bank on them that day (at almost every restaurant you're required to bring in at least 20$ change for your guests yourselves) and then of course you can usually go to the bar and get change beyond that....maybe they were just too lazy to do so? I'm pretty certain that they would get in trouble had you let management know, though, that's ridiculous!
I didn't like the sausages at RR either...in fact, we had the apps with the fried sausage thing there our first time and thought it was disgusting...the burger too, but we still love that place and have liked everything else we've gotten! I am trying to find a way to squeeze it into our itinerary for this next trip.

Last Year the newest "deep fried" offering at the NC State Fair was Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich on a Stick!
DS#1, DD and I got one as a lark and almost ended up fighting over it! It was like a huge puffy jelly doughnut with melty peanut butter too - DELICIOUS! (And I'm certain calorie-free too!!)

Some news . . . we were meant to be spending two weeks cruising and one week at Pop next year, BUT we have realised it will probably be our last trip across the pond for a few years (we are saving hard to move house and then hopefully start a family :scared1: ) . So we think we are going to cancel one week of cruising and instead have one weeks cruise and two weeks at Pop. I know we have never cruised before so may really regret the decision once we get on the Magic, but on the other hand we know we LOVE the parks and need an extra long fix to keep us going over the next few years! Which means more food reviews next year!! Two weeks of Parks and resorts instead on one! I can't wait to stuff my face on behalf of all of you again!!
Does mean re-doing my food plan though (which is traumatising me this late-notice!:rotfl2: ), so if you have any recommendations of places we haven't been before send them this way! :thumbsup2

As for suggestions on where to eat - we had the most pleasant meal at Tutto Italia and The Wave this summer and we just love Olivia's at OKW! Guess you have been to California Grill - if not I can highly recommend it. Ask for either Walter or Ron as your servers and they will not let you down!
Oh, by the way, you just gave me another reason to travel to London soon - I HAVE TO visit Harrods again - Krispy Kreme is drawing ME in as well!

This is an amazing story. I just found the thread yesterday and got very little sleep last night. My wife and kids keep asking if I'll ever get off the computer!
We usually stick to the restaurants we know (San Angel Inn, Pizza Planet, Sci-Fi...we also eat at Tony Roma when in Orlando even though we have one pretty close to us at home) but this report has inspired us to try some different things next time. I had no idea food could be such a focal point of a vacation...I like it.

My DW and I thoroughly enjoyed your dining report, but it caused some problems with our dinner this evening. As you'll realize, the thread is (thankfully) very long, and we kept coming back to read more. However, at that same time dinner was simmering on the stove (spaghetti with homemade sauce, which needs to cook for about two hours). However, as we read your report, and details about some of our favorite WDW restaurants, we became less and less hungry! By the time dinner was ready I have to say that we barely wanted to eat!! Perhaps you've discovered a great new dieting concept here? :thumbsup2
All I can say is that we've amazed that you found room for all that food - you've set the proverbial "bar" high for all others! I have only one suggestion for your next trip to WDW - try the Beef Teriyaki Salad at Kona Cafe! It's my new favorite lunch (can't believe that I never tried it before). Combined with one of their fantastic desserts, it's an A+ meal to say the least. :goodvibes

Thanks for the welcome. I am finding lots of info. I've been to Disney quite a few times with family, but we usually eat always at the same places. We are staying at Old Key West. My grandparents are DVC owners and may sell this year, so my husband and I are taking advantage of one last time of free room. This is our first time to go by ourselves though, so we want to try some new restaurants, along with some of my favorites for "tradition". I'm still trying to get my schedule worked out. I really wish that the magic hours and show schedules would post for that week. Do you know when they post?

I'm in a major sulk about planning anyway as the park hours haven't been released! I so want to get my days sorted in my head!! I feel stuck at the minute! So many hours being wasted at my desk at work actually working, when I could be planning!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have idea if when they will be posting schedules. Hopefully you will enjoy you trip. So, where you planning to stay?
Have a safe trip. :)

I've just found your reviews - how on earth did I manage to miss these? :confused3 I'm only half way through, but am now so hungry, I'm feeling light-headed so I'm off to the kitchen to grab me an early lunch.
I've always wanted to go to Scotland to try a deep fried mars bar, but its put me off!!
It's a shame, but 1 or 2 chippies offered these a few years back, it hit the news, and now the rest of the world thinks we live on fried mars bars! :lmao: I've never had one myself (none of our local chippies ever offered them) but I like my mars bars "normal" thank you very much! :goodvibes
You should to venture over to Raleigh, NC sometime during the statefair in October. They have all sorts of deep fried concotions: candy bars, Coke, hamburgers, and my favorite Oreos.
Now, I just have to ask - how can Coke be deep-fried? That I would try just so I could brag about it! :rotfl:
I promise to finish reading the rest of your reviews today - after I've supressed my hunger. ;)

I'm not the person who posted about it, and I've never had deep fried Coke, but here's a description of it from Wikipedia-
Fried Coke is frozen Coca-Cola-flavored batter which is deep-fried and then topped with Coca-Cola syrup, whipped cream, cinnamon sugar, and a cherry. It was introduced by inventor Abel Gonzales, Jr., at the 2006 State Fair of Texas, where it won the title of "Most Creative" in the second annual judged competition among food vendors.[1][2] It proved very popular in Texas, selling 10,000 cups in the first two weeks, and is now being adopted as a snack by fairs in North Carolina, Virginia, as well as, Arizona. It is also very popular in California.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_Coke
The article went on to say how many calories per serving, but trust me, you don't want to know! :lmao: If you follow the link to the article, you can see a photo of it.

Found your report and loving it. I just finished up page 12, so stil la long ways to go.
I can't beleive how small you are and how much you eat. Wow! And did you guys do any parks? LOL! It looks like it is a tour of resturants. :rotfl2:
I see you didn't like Busch Gardens? I haven't been there in years, but liked it then. What didn't you like?
As for the KFC, I laughed at your review. We get KFC becuase it is so dry. LOL! We love the dry and crispy tatse of it. DH always syas the drier the better. And I don't think they serve any fries at ones in the US. They usually have mash potatoes and coleslaw as the sides for it. YUM! It seems like when we went to Canada one time though, they had different sides, maybe fires with cheese or something? Not as good though.

.....Definitely the best I have read!
You've given me loads of inspiration for our 17 night trip at the end of May.
Another place you may want to try if you haven't already is Wolfgang Puck express. Their food is really good too and the prices aren't bad either.
Well done again.:cool1:
Just wanted to say that this is by far the best and most entertaining dining review I have ever read. I actually read it last year and then wanted to read it again recently as we are planning our own trip for June, and I couldn't find it again for the longest time and then finally found it (I remembered that you had gone to Golden Corral and I actually did a search for that). I love your ratings of every single food item and the great pictures. Without the pictures, I never would have believed that you actually ate all of that food! I can't imagine putting away anything close to that amount, but enjoyed hearing about your adventures.
The only thing I was surprised about is that you did not love the desserts at Boma. Those are my absolute favorites and we always try to eat at Boma twice on every trip. Well, to each his own! Looking forward to hearing about your trip in May.

Oh - where have you made ADR's for? We may be at similar places!
Yes we have booked dinner at Palo because I must try the chocolate souffle! I am going to try book a brunch as well, but at the minute its fully booked.
And EXCELLENT news - TG agreed to upgrade our hotel last week to Port Orleans Riverside - this year I am even closer to the magic cookie bars!! I figure that means one each day for breakfast is acceptable?!!!!

Just to let you know I read your report last summer before my first SOLO trip in Sept. to Port Orleans Riverside. I took copious notes of the pics and page numbers, so I could refer back.
The main things I did, per your advice, was try Beaches and Cream (been there twice now - LOVE the burgers, and your use of the word "squidgy"!), Earl of Sandwich (I'm addicted to the tuna melt), Crystal Palace for breakfast, and finally tried the Magic Cookie Bar last month. I'll check out Chef Mickey's for dinner, and the beignets next month when we stay at POFQ for the first time.
I'm re-reading today, as I have a couple weekend jaunts planned, but am most looking forward to my second solo trip in Sept., again to POR. Then, I can do what I want without having to worry about an extremely picky 10 yr old. Gonna try Chefs de France then. Gotta research some others.
When are you coming back?

No ADR's....I'm not that organised!! Also, we're buying a flexticket, although we still have a few Disney days left too! Have you ever thought of crossing to the other side and visiting Universal etc?
Try the French Toast if you go to WGP....yum yum.
I'm surprised that neither of you work for Aviva as you live in Norwich.....that's who I work for, I visit Norwich often and thought that everyone who lives there works for them!!
Might see you both in DTD at EOS if you're there after 25/05/09.....again thanks for the reviews, can't wait to try!!popcorn::

We are going to Universal this year for a couple of days - looking forward to getting a Cinnabon there! We didn't go there last year as we did the one in LA the year before and (whisper) preferred it to the Florida one! But we're ready for another play at it now!
We are touched by Aviva . . . my Dad and Aunt both work for them!! Where abouts do you go when you're in Norwich?

They are genius!!!!!! If you ask Eeyore' tailfinder I'm sure she will send you the template :goodvibes . . . you print out and laminate a card for each day of your stay and take the relevant card to the park with you. You have on it times of ADR's, notes of things you don't want to miss (my notes were mostly food!) rides you want to go on, park times, all sorts of stuff that make your day go smoothly! TG mocked me so much when I was making them, but he was sold by day 2!!
Well my DD and I are having so much fun reading your posts. Thank you. We can make our ADRs tomorrow, and I think we might just make us some cards. We are totally sold on the French Onion Soup at Chefs de France.

Ah thanks for all your replies! This is my first report ever so I hope it reads OK! :goodvibes
Ok, lets get started!
Saturday 10th May.
Originally we had Kona Café booked for dinner tonight, but a few weeks ago I realised we may not fancy going out after a 9 hour flight, so we decided to wing it (how un-Dis of me!!). :scared1:
We checked in the hotel about 5.30pm and decided to go for a walk to Riverside to wake us up (it was already 10.30pm on our body’s times). We happened upon the Riverside Mill food court there . . . and my eyes were caught by a sparkly thing of beauty in the bakery. It was a Magic Cookie Bar. At first I resisted and we walked ¼ way back to FQ, but I kept thinking of it so back we went!! Oops! This is typical of me, I attempt willpower but generally give in, usually after we have left the area. This does not make TG happy. :rotfl2:
This little treat was too die for!!!!!!!! I would say one of the best snacks I have ever had. It was a sweet biscuit base (a bit like Digestives if you have them in the US, if not you can try a pack in Epcot!) covered in loads of choc chips and oats. I definitely give it 10/10. TG can’t comment as I didn’t share!!!!!!!!!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2003-1.jpg
See that look of love in my eye! That’s how good this was! Most of the early food piccies I took have TG or me in them – it took me a while to get used to just taking food by itself! We vanish in a couple of days!!!!!
Now TG and I have three fave treats here in the UK which we were determined to have – for once guilt free - in Orlando. Krispy Kreme donuts, KFC and Dominos. So we decided to have a Dominos tonight and just slouch about in our room. Was a bit of a nightmare to order as they would only accept calls from the hotel reception phone (luckily we found a very helpful concierge who understood the need for a Dominos!). Once ordered it took about 25 mins to arrive. We ordered a large pizza with the “Americas favourite” topping (pepperoni, savory Italian sausage, fresh mushrooms and cheese) and a side of wings for me. Now I have to say the pizza was a disappointment – very dry – I only had 2 slices. It was large, and loads of topping, but drier than we are used to. The wings were good though, and lots of them. Very hot and yummy. I love wings to be so covered in hot sauce that when I take my contact lenses out hours later my eyes sting like crazy from the chilli still being on my fingers. Well these were that good! TG only got one of them, but then he did eat the rest of the pizza so he didn’t starve!!!!! 6/10.

So all in all not a bad first night! Up next, 1900 Park Fare Breakfast.

Right I am up to page 18 and might have to quit for the night due to my alarm being set for 7am and working tomorrow from 8.30am until 8pm :scared1:
Before I forget Kona for Breakfast is a must do for us, I have the Macadamia Pancakes and DH has the Big Kahuna (I really want him to have the Tonga toast so I can try it don't want my own as I am not a big fan of bananas but he won't give in how selfish) anyway what I was going to say was the pancakes on the big Kahuna are just reguar pancakes with a splodge of Macadamia Nut butter and the grated pineapple bits on ........
But the Macadamia nut pancakes are indeed filled with the yummiest Macadamia nuts not one or two or even a few but lots of them and they are the best!
They give you 3 and they are massive, I go fully convinced I am going to eat all 3 and only ever get past one and a bit! And I can eat lots too!
Anyway maybe a couple more pages before bed!

TG had the croissant which was also a bit dry - 7/10.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2894-1.jpg
Here they are:-
Burger and onion rings
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/sonyagarland/CIMG2914-1.jpg
OK, so I lied about leaving some . . . :rotfl:

Up next, Crystal Palace breckie, Aloha Isle treats, Grand Floridian lunch, Raglan Road dinner
I am only half way through your dining review and I have to comment on your lack of enthusiam for any of the ribs you've had. I'm a Texas girl, where barbecue is king. Believe me it takes the better part of a day to barbecue great fall of the bone ribs.:rolleyes1 I'm sure the majority of chain restaurants don't take the time to do this; so I never order the ribs because I know I will only be disappointed. :sad1:

Me too please, I'd like to know where to go...i.e. where you two haven't been and where there will definitelty be some food left!!
Hope you're no longer worried by all the scaremongering over pig flu, all will be OK I'm sure.
We leave on the 25th May, so hoping the situation remains the same by then.
BTW, when I visit Norwich for work, I usually go to Marble Hall./Surrey Street. The food in the Jigsaw cafe there is lovely.....especially the pies! :thumbsup2
What part of Aviva do your relatives work in?

I have calmed down over the swine flu thanks! I am sure the suituation will have improved by the time you go; there seem to be less cases each day. Butthat doesn't mean we are going to leave you any food! I hope you will be doing a food report?! :goodvibes

They have said there would be no point closing borders as it wouldn't stop it spreading, so fingers crossed for your trip.
I look forward to you doing a nice food report also!:thumbsup2

We booked with Virgin who have an office in Orlando. Sadly they had shut the office by the time we arrived at the hotel! Thank goodness for Disney customer service who found us a room at another hotel and were so lovely and helpful. We spoke to Virgin the next day who sorted the room and park tickets, but it took them another 4 days to sort our DDP out. They never bothered explaining what had happened or apologised! Hence the 6 page letter!!!
