It's not a long story, but it's a bad story, so I won't get into it, I'm only going to get mad again.
Now here I am, 29, single with a brand new house in Ajax and I know no one out here and I'm regretting I ever left downtown. I'm taking up Yoga on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I'm definitely looking to meet others in the area so I can actually look forward to taking the Go Train home instead of crying walking to Union.
So... anyone out there in the Durham region about my age-ish and looking for new social opportunities? I'm a really cool person I swear!

You have the right attitude - ready to get out there and meet new people, new experiences. Hope everything turns the way you need it! Congrats on a new chapter!

I take the GO from Whitby 1-2 times per week and get off at the Exhibition Station.
I think you have a great attitude, and I'm sure you'll make it through this tough time.

Well Hello Neighbour!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry to hear you are suddenly single. I sympathize not because I have been there but because that is definitely my worst nightmare... especially living here in Durham and not knowing anyone. Hubby and I moved to TO and then to Brooklin (north Whitby, around the corner from Ajax) from Niagara and I barely know a soul. I would love to meet up sometime!
I am 24, almost 25... I work in Markham and hubby works downtown, so I am alone very often! I would like to think I am very nice and cool as well. :rotfl2: And, we have Disney in common.
I recently joined up to the Meetup.com group for Durham Ladies and they have been really good for me. I suggest you join! And, keep in touch. ;)

Thanks for the support everyone! I'm going through a very tough time right now and I appreciate the well wishes.
Misslissa - let's try to do coffee or something in a couple weeks. I'm heading to Disney next week with my sister, so I'll have stories and updates for you then when I get back!

Hey there! I'm in Pickering, right next door!! :goodvibes
I know the suburbs are completely different than the city, and it can be a huge adjustment. I'd love to show you around the area, though, so you're less lost and can see that we do have some great beaches, and restaurants, and little shops. Where abouts in Ajax are you, if you don't mind sharing? (You can PM me if you like)
PS- I'm almost 26, and if I do say so, quite enjoyable to be around. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Nowhere near you, I'm in Kitchener, but just wanted to say  . Suddenly single myself and not happy about it, but getting used to it. If you ever want to swap stories (mine is Jerry Springer material now), feel free to pm me.
Everyone keeps telling me it will just take time...yeah, ok, whatever:headache: Have fun in Disney though! I was just there last week on a singles trip and it helped a bit. And when you're ready, there is a few singles threads over on the Adult and Solo boards. Nice crowd, and lots of people that have been through the same ordeal, even a few who have hooked up there :lovestruc .

If you are going to have a coffee night, let me know.

I work in Pickering although I live in North York -- I do the opposite commute to most people. I've found in the years that I've worked here that it is a friendly area and there's lots to do.
I will say that it does take time having been there, done that so I wish you the best. A little older than you in age but not (I hope) in spirit - or at least that's what I keep telling myself.

I'm in Markham... single mom for the last 7 years... I moved here from downtown TO where all my friends are so I could get a cheap house and cheap babysitting (all of which are a premium in TO).
I've been taking tennis lessons recently, and playing in round robins to meet people. So maybe going out and being active would be helpful! Good luck, I know it's not easy.

I can relate to the moving to a new area and not knowing anybody. It took me a good four years before Port Hope (about 40 minutes east of you but I come in to shop off salem road often) felt "homey". I'm still working on it feeling like home which is still Toronto to me. It takes some time. How about finding some volunteer opportunities in your area?

Ladies, why don't we have a Durham Disney Ladies coffee nite?!
I love the idea!
Anyone know a good central location?
If we aimed for a Sunday night would that impede on anyone's lives? I know during the week can be hectic for some with commute times, etc.

Misslissa, did you go to the Mike Mandel night at Holiday Inn about a year ago? I went w/ another group but I did see the ladies and thought, that must have been them taking a picture in the lobby!
Is anyone going to the Sex and the City premiere tomorrow night at the Cineplex in Oshawa on Taunton Road at Grandview? I am going to try my best to make it.
For coffee, I vote for Williams in Whitby at Thickson and the 401 by Michaels whenever is best for most people.

Hey there,
I think they DID go see that show but I wasn't part of the group at that time. Speaking of which, I think the group is also going to the Sex in the City movie tonite. I might try to go see it but I haven't ever watched the show and I don't want to not know what is going on... maybe I'll refresh with some DVDs first. I did want to see Baby Mama but it is out of the Oshawa theatre already!
I agree, I love coffee at Williams, Second Cup on Taunton or the forbidden Dimetres!

Hello ladies!
Ok... so, I'm still gung-ho (is that how you spell it?!) about a Disney Ladies Durham Night...
Sunday night sounds semi-ok for me... but a weeknight around 7 pm would be better. Would that be ok for anyone else? Being that most of our family/friends are out of town... we are usually out of town on Sundays....

I don't live in Durham anymore, but it sure is nice to hear those familiar names tossed around! I used to live up in Brooklin, before it was developed (late 80s, early 90s). I am one of the downtown Toronto car-less people now, so I never get back to Durham anymore.
To the OP - I hope things start looking up for you soon. It's cruddy, what you're going through, but good attitude!

I'm normally on the 17:53 or 18:43 Go Train out of Union, so I could be there around 8 p.m....

Thanks! I'm feeling better now, it just took awhile. I've already decided to move back to Toronto, but unfortunately, I'll be at least a year in Ajax. I'm going to make the best of it though!
