Just a heads up - if you live in New York, starting June 1st, you are going to be charged sales tax by Amazon.com.

This was on the website when I checked out the other day:

Important Messages
Due to a new law recently passed by the State of New York we are required to collect NY sales taxes on taxable items sold by Amazon.com on or after June 1st, 2008. If your order is placed prior to June 1st, your Order Total may not include an estimate of NY sales taxes, but those taxes may still be charged if your order is readied for shipment on or after that date.

This just stinks, I am sick of paying taxes, wheter it be State income, capital gains, gas tax, sales tax, or some other tax that NYS deems appropriate when the desire stikes them.

Guess living in California this is nothing new. I always assume that I am going to be charged tax on all my purchases, online or off.

They say it is because advertizing on NY(TV station was example given here)websites constitutes a Brick and Mortar store in NY...come on get real. NY is not benefiting from any employment-it is not like Amazon warehouse is here and employing NYer's... :headache: :rolleyes1 Total money grab fest.

Thanks for the heads up... I live in NJ but usually have my Amazon purchases shipped to my office in NY... good to know I'll need to send them to my home instead from now on.

CA residents aren't charged sales tax by amazon...

"Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the states of Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, or Washington are subject to tax."

Other state governments want the tax b/c they think it's taking away from the tax they would collect on items you buy in those states.
