Just curious, for those of you who are able to talk etc... Is the VFK dictionary appear to be the same to VMK?

For the most part it seems to be a little more lenient, we can say a lot more words and we can also type the same word in a sentence more than three times. Much easier to have a conversation than in vmk, vmk was ridiculously restricted.

Ok.. my hubby Space_Grumpy was on first this mornign..he couldn't talk at first still then about 30 mins later he could! He was all excited as he could finally talk! Buthe didn't have his name yet. But he did have the toolbar update on there

The we bring me up and I had my name PirateBell! yay and also the updated toolbar! It was cool to see my name and all. Then it all just died...could talk any more.. so guess they are working on more stuff! :)

I also don't care if they get te games goign yet.. I am more interedted in them getting our names and friends list and our inventory things like that.
But each day i log I see imporvements..si i really think they are doing pretty good!

Tofubeast, here's VFK_Lion (and VFK_Owl's back)! :) They are the only staff I've personally seen thus far, but from the screen shots that I've seen from others, they are all clones, too. All of the girls have that long black hair. So at this point, if you've seen one host, you've seen them all!

Yea, give them time...it is only in Beta. I would give it a few weeks before making any decisions. What I see so far is very cool. I think it's got definite potential as a free, family oriented interactive, online, community. community being the key word. I also think they are going to use this as a template for a pay-to-live (LOL) version as well...which I think will be a huge hit for them. we just got the bear the brunt of the testing phase.

Grand Master A is right...this appears more like an Alpha. In my "real world" our Alpha's are wooden mock-ups of designed to test the functionality and feasibility of the product....that's what this is reminding me of. Beta's you make from the production materials and hopefully by your fabrication department with the right tools...you may or may not put them in front of the customer, depending on the level of completeness. Not sure how the software world treats it, but it's looking like they're still Alpha...LOL! Moon Base Alpha it is...now that would be a cool world to explore (sorry..off on tangent)

I agree about this being more of an Alpha product than a Beta product. I'm willing to cut them lots of slack on that, too, though...I understand why they felt it was important to at least give us something, however flawed, the day after VMK closed, and I think they were right in doing so, if only to give us all something to focus on besides our grief. It has certainly helped my son and I, especially knowing most of the VMK hosts are there, being able to talk briefly with one or two of them, and hearing about others' conversations with the ones we haven't been able to speak with. I would much rather have what little there is of VFK than wait a month for it to be a bit smoother, and I'm really enjoying watching everything develop!

My main reservation is that they are calling for late June as the "live" date. VMK took 3 1/2 months for their beta so it will be interesting to see if the VFK folks can do all that is necessary in a month.

Hooray!! I was just able to chat for quite a few minutes with VFK_Tiger and a couple of other people. I could see Tiger and one guest, although I was able to chat with several others. We were in the yard. I did lose the ability after awhile, but that is DEFINITE progress. It's the first time in two days (since my first and second log on) that I was able to interact with anyone!

First of all, has anyone noticed your login is NOT secure? This could mean stolen accounts. Passwords and user names could have already been hacked to be saved for the future, when your pretty pink couches become "rare". I think everyone should send emails requiring more security with our personal information.

Secondly, I seem to recall a LOT of outcry about favoritism on VMK. Guess what, people? EVERYONE on vfk came from vmk, and most of them are using their same vmk id's! So...here we go again!

Thirdly, with the 'beta' version already at 50,000 registered users, do you really think anything you acquire in this time period will be worth anything in the future? We're talking about 50,000 items in-game, not 500 or 1000.

I just want everyone to be aware and for parents to push for more security.

Yes. I have already noticed the favortism being moved over to VFK. I am not trying to put anyone down, but I kind of don't like the fact that the majority of Staff at VFK are from VMK. Sure, its nice to see them here and all, but really I would probably have perferred new Staff. I have already seen and heard of the known 'favored' players still attached to Staffs side and getting back to their oddly stalkish ways. Sure- you can talk to them and see them occasionally, but its really bothersome to see the same people attached to a Staff member everytime you see those people(s).

This is one reason why I am not playing under the title, KrazyLuke. I did not want to be recognize and wanted to start off new and create a new alias at a new game, but now it seems that it's just VMK again with the same Staff favorites and such..

I agree on every point made.

Rob and I were always aware of Favortism in vmk. Putting pictures of vmk favorites in quest photos, opening a Host room an hour before it was time to open and letting just a handfull of these favorites in. The list goes on and while it happens in everyday life I dont think its right

I am not playing that game but I logged on yesterday and before yesterday to see what it looked alike and just to know that some of the hosts are the same as in VMK doesnt give me the want to play that game for the reason of favoritism and I agree with you also on the first point and for the last point some ppl might care and you are true in that case. I have way too many Pink Couches for one Best Buy Employee to handle. Some pink couches are pink soft and cozy and can be moved, however, if you would like to sit on it there will be an extra surcharge.(TBD) I have decided to masquerade tall grandfather clocks and pink buffet tables as pink couches also and can be bought for a discount. For the modest pick couch admirer I have another model it is small, hard, and grey but it most certainly is our most portable pink couch ever.

Well I made a step forward...

I can ONLY talk in the crossroads section. No other room can I talk, I can't
talk in my house, garden, any room in the medieval land, or any room in the
wild west land, just the crossroad room.

I still can't see other people.

But at least I found out that I am YellowStrangeShark on there now and
not Guest888.

What did you guys do to get it to work fine? Refresh 5000k times? Clear cache/cookies? Log out
wait a while and log back in? Just sit there and it started working?

Yes! lol A trick that works for me is if I go in an area and can't talk I go back out and come back in. Sometimes it works on first try, sometimes a few tries but I am ALMOST always able to talk after that!! Congrats on your title I got mine today too!!:banana:

Hmm ... while I would have gladly paid to keep VMK open, I'm not so sure on this game. They will have to keep it free for quite a while to let us see where they are taking it. While I am grateful at the moment to have some place to visit with friends from VMK, I agree with others that this a very alpha-ish version of an MMOG.

Delurking to post about my experience on VFK so far.

For the first two days I never once saw anyone or was able to chat.

Today I am (mostly) able to chat and I see other people -- but not necessarily all of them! I was in a room with mileycyrus for a while, and though I clicked on all the visible characters, none of them seemed to have her name.

In one room (blacksmith room of the Old West) I could see chat but could not see any people. I could not chat there myself.

In some rooms I can't chat; don't know why.

My character's feet are getting tired. :) It would be nice to sit.

Bugs and other issues I am noticing:
The dictionary doesn't seem to allow you to type a person's name unless it's already a normal dictionary word. This can make it difficult to address someone in a crowded room. :)

People can easily block gates and doors and make it impossible to leave a room. (Also -- I hope they add markings to show where the exits are, soon.)

For some reason VFK is noticeably laggier on my Intel Mac FireFox than my Safari. However, I have FireFox using Rosetta, while Safari is not, so that might have something to do with it.

Other comments:

You can hide in Stonehenge, sort of like the Snow White forest in VMK. :)

I actually like the history theme, but I am getting a history degree so that may have something to do with it.

The size of the project they are building here is pretty amazing. I am actually really impressed with what they have done so far and the speed at which they are adding things. I think they do want to be careful when promising things to people on specific dates. That way lies madness.

I actually like that we can log in during closing hours and just not talk to or see anyone. Once the game has more features that could be cool -- you could log in at night and decorate your room, or do quests, and then socialize during the day. And as long as you can't see or talk to anyone there's really no danger in it. On behalf of West Coast night owls, I like this feature.

I hope it doesn't get too kid-centric. Family-friendly, yes, absolutely -- but I loved VMK because I am a Disneyland geek. I mostly talked there with other adults there who were fans of the theme parks, played games and quests, and ignored everything else. It was just my way of getting a little Disneyland into my life far away from the park. And VFK is not Disneyland or WDW, so it's going to have more trouble drawing that demographic, perhaps. If it ends up just being a kids' place I'll have no reason to be there.

Then I found by Merlin's two other people I could talk with!!! It was very exciting. Then they both went out of the room, I followed, and I've been unable to speak or see anything anymore!!

This level of programming is beyond me as well, but if I might take a stab at it from my own limited understanding...
You would think things are consistent, and from the programs point of view, they are. It is just reacting to inputs. "If this is true, then do that else do the other thing"...to put it in its simplist terms. Now take that logical statment and add things like "If this and this are true, but not this, then do this", then take those statements and nest them within each other. It's easy for the programmer to lose track or at least for them to think they've got it all covered....but when you have tons of inputs, you never know for sure how it's going to react. Hence you need to test...and test...and test...and you actually have smaller programs runnign within larger ones, etc ,etc. (one makes your character walk while another makes sure he's walking in the right direction!)

I'm sure others can explain it better...LOL (that's why I'm a Mechanical Engineer)

I hate to say this, but send a message to the site and have them check into it. I would hope they are doing a validation of the pre-registration email to the secondary registration email to confirm that person is who they state they are. But do to the volumes of people, a confirmation like that maybe time consuming.

I am so amazed thay got this far. So glad they opened it up even though you could tell they were not ready. But we have gone from tears of despair to tears of laughter.

Which I am so thankful for. They even try and update us even though is seems to not be happening as fast as they would like. They are trying to communicate which is more than we got on VMK. So right off they are doing something right.

I have worn the same clothes for three days I need a washing machine first. So when I meet my friends I smell wonderful. :)

I would say that if isn't beta.. then just think of how cool it is then. I mean they are doing this with all these thousands of people. I am very pleased with this so far.

Thank you all for standing on top of roofs, hanging from walls, being ghosts, moving the "pink couch" incognito, and of course, being the best beta testers ever! You made it possible to create a stable environment in less than three days and we've had an awesome time doing it!

Because we had over 8,000 members online at one time today, we are behind our ambitious schedule, so we are posting a new revised schedule below. Who knew we would have an opportunity to beta test with so many of you at once!

Woot! Is this the greatest community or what? You guys ROCK! But hey, what's this? You DON'T want invisibility magic? ;) Now there's something I never thought I'd hear!

Thank you all for standing on top of roofs, hanging from walls, being ghosts, moving the "pink couch" incognito, and of course, being the best beta testers ever! You made it possible to create a stable environment in less than three days and we've had an awesome time doing it!

Because we had over 8,000 members online at one time today, we are behind our ambitious schedule, so we are posting a new revised schedule below. Who knew we would have an opportunity to beta test with so many of you at once!

Knowing this great community, you will probably take our servers down again at least a few more times, but we can't wait!

well i know myself for one, i am just happy to have a place where we can all gather again and continue all our friendships again, and as far as anything being rare or being worth anything.....well i guess we learned our lesson with vmk, none of it is worth anything except the people we met :)

well I think the Beta Shirt does have potenial, and so do the other beta items, remember today they said only 8000 people logged on, so that means 8000 or less of those accounts are either a) mules b) people that logged in but didnt want to play anymore so they quit. So since the shirt was only given out the first and second day, and if they are saying only 8000 people
logged in today, im guessing the shirt will be worth something later on, and since there are so many impatient people during this time, im sure alot of them are going to leave and not play for a while until it gets better, which means they dont get to buy beta items. just my input.

Just the fact they cared to even make one or think about it when they are probably so sleep deprived and trying desparating to get the key things working. Now that means so much.

Which means to me they have a good group and good communication skills and delegation in that group.

I am not really caring about rare items in beta. I am just glad to have a place to get hugs from my friends.

I will be very happy to just have a place where I can find my friends and chat. I hope there is not a lot of beta/rare and that this can be a game of fun and not a game of greed.

There were a lot of people in VMK and many right here on this board who were more concerned about what they had instead of the game and friendships. I DO NOT want to see VFK turn into VMK in that sense. Sadly, a lot of the same people I saw complain about the release of the flip hat and princess minnie, etc because it was rare and they worked hard for it are the same people that later turned around and said, "why does vmk have to close, it is a community and not about the items or a game." It is my hope that VFK only gives those same people a choice to see the latter comment in this game.

I saw a host today. Willa said they will not activate friends lists until chat is repaired and we can see everyone in the room. First day shirts will only come out when the clothing feature is enabled. Most things will take longer than they thought. Hoping for friends tomorrow. Games and other locations in a few days.

First of all, has anyone noticed your login is NOT secure? This could mean stolen accounts. Passwords and user names could have already been hacked to be saved for the future, when your pretty pink couches become "rare". I think everyone should send emails requiring more security with our personal information.

I absolutely love that they don't spit us out entirely at closing...just turn off chat. How handy would it be to be able to work on a room or earn some credits on mini-games after hours? And it would still be a safe environment, because there would be no guest interaction! I hope they keep that setup.

MY AMAZEMENT and APOLOGY
I'm actually amazed at what they have achieved in 7 weeks. I was 1 of the skeptical people that thought this was truly a plan or just a scheme. So I have to say "Woot! Glad I was wrong!" and "Great job and Thank you for everything you have done!"
7 weeks! Just remember that when you can't talk, see people, or get stuck on walls. 7 weeks time has passed ~ truly, truly amazing.

This has been a marvelous way, even during the frustration of not speaking or seeing people, to deal with the grief that the closing of VMK caused all of us. I tried to play POTCO after the closing and couldn't. I looked at other online games sites and my heart just wasn't into it. But trying out VFK that first night made me smile and find joy again, even with the inability to see others, see my own speech, and sometimes not seeing myself at all. Now seeing my friends with their titles and sometimes speaking to them directly, well it makes this new land a bit more like home again.

CONCERNS
But I have to agree with Green when we was talking about the VMK problems following us with the Hosts from the old game. I have never 'courted' the hosts. I would personally be offended when I would get into a room and find the same two or three people each time taking up room space. When I was left out of a room being #1 or #3 in queue it was because of "so and so" or "whats her name" I would think to myself.

During my time on vmk I played my games, chatted with my friends, built 158 rooms, had every article of clothing, each pin, and just about every furnish in the kingdom. I didn't need to court the hosts, I got 'rich' on my own. But I COULD play games and make lots of credits. I found out early that money will buy you just about everything you needed. So I amassed a crazy amount of credits and bought my first rare and just traded away from there. Many kids couldn't play as well as I, therefore they didn't do as well. Many adults CAN play as well as I, chose not to, and relied on their friendship with the hosts for many rare and special treats. Don't tell me it doesn't happen or didn't happen. We all know it does and did happen. But when Dreams Month had ended, when those people courted the hosts, had their rooms visited (sometimes 10 times) who was the person who had made over a million credits to buy their new rare and special stuff? Me. Like I said, I'm lucky....not many kids could play the mini-games or had the time I did to do so.

each day I get more ability. Yesterday I could finally chat even though it was not fully functional it was nice to meet people. The ghosts in my room were creepy though. I already met new friends and bought a tv from the best buy salesman benihodge. He was awesome! It is a flat screen lol.

I'm actually amazed at what they have achieved in 7 weeks. I was 1 of the skeptical people that thought this was truly a plan or just a scheme. So I have to say "Woot! Glad I was wrong!" and "Great job and Thank you for everything you have done!"
7 weeks! Just remember that when you can't talk, see people, or get stuck on walls. 7 weeks time has passed ~ truly, truly amazing.

This has been a marvelous way, even during the frustration of not speaking or seeing people, to deal with the grief that the closing of VMK caused all of us. I tried to play POTCO after the closing and couldn't. I looked at other online games sites and my heart just wasn't into it. But trying out VFK that first night made me smile and find joy again, even with the inability to see others, see my own speech, and sometimes not seeing myself at all. Now seeing my friends with their titles and sometimes speaking to them directly, well it makes this new land a bit more like home again.

But I have to agree with Green when we was talking about the VMK problems following us with the Hosts from the old game. I have never 'courted' the hosts. I would personally be offended when I would get into a room and find the same two or three people each time taking up room space. When I was left out of a room being #1 or #3 in queue it was because of "so and so" or "whats her name" I would think to myself.

During my time on vmk I played my games, chatted with my friends, built 158 rooms, had every article of clothing, each pin, and just about every furnish in the kingdom. I didn't need to court the hosts, I got 'rich' on my own. But I COULD play games and make lots of credits. I found out early that money will buy you just about everything you needed. So I amassed a crazy amount of credits and bought my first rare and just traded away from there. Many kids couldn't play as well as I, therefore they didn't do as well. Many adults CAN play as well as I, chose not to, and relied on their friendship with the hosts for many rare and special treats. Don't tell me it doesn't happen or didn't happen. We all know it does and did happen. But when Dreams Month had ended, when those people courted the hosts, had their rooms visited (sometimes 10 times) who was the person who had made over a million credits to buy their new rare and special stuff? Me. Like I said, I'm lucky....not many kids could play the mini-games or had the time I did to do so.

You totally took the words right out of my mouth Night!! When I first talked about VFK the first thing I thought was great a whole new beginning for everyone. I was actually disappointed to hear that the hosts and staff from VMK went over to VFK. I am just like you Night where I worked hard for all my rare rather than it being handed to me on a silver platter. I foresee that occurring again. See ya at the Fouth of July Game. :rotfl2:

I'm having a very difficult time believing that these mods are the same ones we all know and glove. How exactly does the management claim to have contacted these people? Did they have a job fair in the Esplanade? Why is Fin's name spelled wrong and why have Hurricane and Cricket undergone virtual gender reassignment procedures?

There are a surprising number of options out there for community moderation professionals. I just don't quite buy that so many people with so much experience in the field would decide to sign on with a game that right now has no real signs of long-term viability (it's very obviously being built from the top down, and you should see what it does to a flash debugger!) And opening a game like this one, even in 'beta', with neither a 'report' nor a 'boot' feature implemented is just plain inexcusable. They are creating a place for kids to play and they have a responsibility to make sure those kids are safe in it, even if that means delaying a promised start date. How much good can all these staff members be doing if nobody has any way of telling them when they need their help?

I don't understand why so many people are taking it on faith (or from some shadowy 'very reliable sources') that they all are who they say they are. And I think it's very telling that the mods who would be most difficult to impersonate convincingly are the ones who are 'coming later.' There are a lot of people here who spent enough time actually hanging out with Lily and Hula that they'd know something was fishy pretty quickly. With many of the other staff members, a fake could very easily get by with a few in-jokes that they lifted from these here forums and other similar communities. It almost seems like they just decided that it was best to start with the easier ones and work their way up to the toughies.

So how do we know that this isn't a ploy, so that when it comes time to start subscribing, they can say "we have to pay our staff! You don't want your old friends from VMK to be out of a job, do you?"

Well, you can still call me cautious. I will continue to keep checking on what you all have to say. My real concern here is that I am afraid that my computer will catch a bug. My other concern is that my server is slow, and I could not play Haunted Mansion it just loads too slow. We have moved over the past year and my old server was great. I feel the need to express this issue as stated earlier that kids have trouble with the games for credits. Whether your a child or an adult the server really matters when playing games. It's her cat's name. And these are clearly people who are not concerned with trademark issues. Making a tiny change to one name is not enough to get around the fact that they are duplicating 90% of the staff's names to give the appearance that this game is the successor to VMK. There were young players right up to the last day VMK was open who genuinely believed that the same people who designed VMK were working on this game. Trademark rights are designed to prevent companies from creating confusion their product and another one, to gain that product's customers. The kind of confusion you create when you name nearly all your staff members after ones from a game whose players you are trying to attract.

What exactly about your encounter with Tiger made you believe that she was the same Tiger from VMK?
