Look,
This game is similar to VMK. We will be getting some great new features that will further it to be closer to VMK. What did we all do when VMK was closing? Say "I would pay to play". Now when we get a site close to VMK, and we are offered to get new features by paying, we are screaming at them. They are not saying we must pay to play, in fact, it is close to the features VMK had without paying. We are getting some NICE features, after-hour playing time, trading rooms. We begged for that on VMK, and we never got that. Now if you like this game, then pay the extra to get a few nice features. If you don't, don't pay for it. Simple as that, the free version is alot nicer than the free versions of many other pay-to-play games.
Just my two cents,
Dude
We are yelling and screaming because people are flaming because we say that VFK is not handling info correctly and is not secure

Nobody is saying that a good game shouldn't have pay features, most of us have said we would pay for a game from a reputable company that is actually a full functioning game. What people are "screaming" about is the lack of integrity this company has shown, and the extrememly fishy circumstances surrounding this new "offer". Also out of curiosity, care to make a list? I'd love to see a free version of a pay-to-play game that vfk is nicer than.
About the vmk staff who are now in vfk, I'm willing to bet that they were fed a huge shovel full of chocolate covered manure just like everybody else. They were in a bad spot, out of work, and I feel awful for them.

Wow...it really is a VFK lovefest over on VFKFF...LOL...oh well...every game has its supporters and detractors...but what surprised me is how quick the moderators over there are to close a discussion when it starts to go negative for VFK...
My personal opinion is that the VFK people are not running any sort of scam or the like, nor are they just trying to get emails, phone numbers or whatnot to sell them later, LOL...I think they are trying to launch a game, but are just not experienced in the right way to go about it. They are probably feeling the financial crunch, have run out of money from the investors (theres a term for this type of investor, but I forget what it is...), and need to raise cash to continue...or to at least show they have the ability to raise cash. But they certainly aren't ready to actually start charging people to pay for the "premium services" when they havn't even tested them yet, LOL. Oh well...I need to get off this infernal contraption and get outside...it's to nice to spend wasting it on disboards! (wait, did i actually say that??? Moderator! Lock this post!! j/k!!!)

I know nothing more than anyone else regarding VFK and their operations, but I thought maybe I could offer some light on a few things here as panic seems to be making people question if that big yellow thing in the sky is even really the sun.
...One thing I found of interest is that this is the clearinghouse they are using for their payments: http://www.esecpayments.com.au/index.jsp
So, uhm, does that mean on top of the exorbitant amount being charged for something that could have been done better by a DeVry first semester gaming student, are we going to get hit with fees from our VISA companies? :P...
So we have a New Mexico company, doing business out of New Jersey with a Credit Card processing clearinghouse based in Australia.....
I run my own VERY small start-up company. I cannot afford to process credit card payments, yet my customers love using their credit cards. Therefore, I partner with a credit-processing company. They run all of my credit card orders, my customers see THAT company on their bill, not mine, and I pay a .05% fee / transaction.
In MY case, I tell my customers what company they will see on their statement, I know the company I use processes through a secure manner, and I eat the .05% fee because I know it brings me more business. Obviously, I know nothing about how VFK's processes are set up, but I am a company based in 1 state, shipping half my orders from another state, and processing payments through yet another. All it means is that I have outsourced services to allow me to run my small business efficiently.
I'm all for donating to charity, but how do we really know anything's been donated? Take them at their word? Sorry, but I simply can't do that. I will donate to the charities that I wish to donate to, not hope that some random game will do that for me.
Noble cause, but I remain skeptical.
Agreed. Would like to hear from anyone that has requested money be donated to find out how that is / was handled. Again, I have offered that to my clients and I make all donations at once on a given date - which, yes, is provided to my clients at time of ordering.
Wow....
I checked it with McAfee SiteAdvisor, and it's not even been tested. Obviously a new website.
Very sketchy
I'll check out WHOIS
Oh, and BTW, virtualfamilykingdom.com is rated yellow...
McAfee shows esecpayments.com.au as a green site on my system.
Whois lookup for http://www.esecpayments.com.au.....
Not valid
So, I looked up the homepage, com.au (it can't have two extentions, can it?)
so, com.au, data not present
EXTREMELY sketchy in my opinion
Yes, it can have 2 extensions. A ".com.au" can be registered to an Australian registered business. esecpayments.com.au has been registered to its current holder since July, 2003. Nothing sketchy about it.
The people in your family will receive the hat and spinning wheel.
Likewise, if 10 friends sign up and share a membership for $5 each, EVERYONE gets the hat and wheel, they could share the room, and divide the credits amongst them however they want.
They will not be doing away with founding members. You can still become a Founding member and pay the fee you just will not receive the special horse and the bonus 20,000 credits. So i find it interesting that they are pressuring the heck out of us and no where does it state that you can still become a founding member after the 48 hours.
I heard this today as well and went back to look at how it is presented in writing. There are 2 items specifically set aside by bullets under the "next 48 hours and receive these special gifts" which are: 20K credits and beta platinum stallion and stable. Furthermore, under the "founders" tab on the subscribe info page it DOES very clearly say:
Founder's Members only
First 48 hours only!
Special Beta Founder Free Gifts:
* 20,000 Extra Credits
* Platinum Mane and Tail Palomino Horse with Stable Room!
Limited time and never to be released in game.
* 50,000 credits given one time when account is opened
* Founder's Pin
* .... rest of list.
I just took a little stroll in the "kingdom" and you'd be surprised at the number of people walking around with the platinum hat.
Well, the way this works out - 1 $50 membership could give 20 people a hat if friends work with each other to share the goodies.
As far as I know, there was never any proof that the staff members in VFK were the staff members in VMK. They probably just passed themselves off as the old staff members to create a sense of trust within the community.
I was VERY skeptical of this and I have no proof at all, but through discussion with 1 staff person I believe that at least she is "the real deal." There are some things that can be asked in a way that only someone alone (or someone who REALLY knows them) can answer.
I don't WANT anyone getting scammed but people are flaming me for telling them to be careful and to not buy the family vip thing. Now I can't wait until they do get scammed, see who gets the last laugh. This whole situation makes me miss VMK more does anyone feel the same :(
We don't know that anything is a scam. Approach with your eyes wide open and ask questions, but to say straight out that this is a scam I have to say I think it not fair. Are they asking for money for something that is still not ready? Yes. Is that a scam? No.
GRRRRR I hate that entire board VFKFF they flamed me aengus ans shark and i'm not ok.....
I'm sorry they flamed you 3. You ARE ok. If they feel comfortable with paying for a half cooked omelet, that is their choice. If they feel comfortable handing over their credit card and you don't - don't. I have clients that give me their credit card. Who am I? Just a small business owner trying to make her dreams come true. Are the VFK people treating your information properly? Idk. Are they scamming anyone? idk Those are answers each person has to decide.
I think the staff possibly don't know it's a scam. Maybe the company is feeding them wrong info? I'd feel really bad for the staff then, they will feel so bad.
Do you KNOW it's a scam?
Maybe it is time for me to dust off my ol' atari 2600. :rotfl:
hehe, I've got 1 of those somewhere! Maybe it's in the garage near my Mac Classic. :goodvibes
I don't understand how any community moderation professional could have ever stepped foot in that game. The early days when they had no powers at all?
Because they were offered employment to help pay to support their family through a company that they decided would provide them with a paycheck and a respectable job. Perhaps?
I've lost a lot of respect for them [former vmk staff now in vfk]. They basically gave this game their seal of approval by joining up and announcing that they were the same people, and it's awful- safety isn't a priority for the developers. I thought these moderators took pride in their work. I must have been mistaken.
Wow. I feel that you are attacking the wrong people. Those VMK staff that took work within VFK did not give the game their seal of approval did they? I never received a notice of such. They took a job. They found someone to give them a paycheck through what they believe to be respectable work. When Ben & Jerry's started, they got a deep freezer by promising free ice cream for life of the company to someone who had the freezer they needed since they had no cash to pay for it. They believed in their hearts that they would be offering free ice cream for a few months. Today, that person who agreed to the deal STILL gets free ice cream. He believed in 2 guys who were trying to get a business going - and got an amazing deal! I REALLY think it is wrong to judge anyone who takes a job with a start-up company.
- Are they asking for money too soon? Imo, ABSOLUTELY!
- Are they outsourcing some services? Seems so.
- Are they running a scam? I don't know, you don't know.
- If you don't like it - run from it. If you're ok with it, ask questions, make sure you are 100% comfortable with everything, and enjoy.

Hi,
I think this is kinda interesting news. I was in the crossroads and some one asked someone if they were trading their hat. I said hats are mot tradeable yet. VFK_Wolf said:

So the silver hat will NEVER be tradeable. That makes no reason for people to add mules to their accounts in hopes of getting lots of hats. so very interesting-pay for a special "gift" and you can't do what you may want with it. Gift to friends, trade...

Which is FANTASTIC Can you image what ppl would ask for it?
This way, you can give 1 to a friend by adding them to your membership, but no room for demanding WAY too much trade-wise.

Well really they paid for squat more or less, if the items aren't tradeable. I still believe we are getting the shirts and a Here from Day 1 badge. Which I really dont see the difference between the Day 1 Badge and Founding member badge except one paid for a badge that is exactly the same as a beta badge, and they got 70000 credits which can be earned in a game. The membership items aren't worth jack in the trading world on VFK. And I hope they know they could add anyone on to their 20 people list and those people get those items (I wonder how it would work out if they took them off their list, would the items go away too?). People who are gloating over their items are just wasting their time and making themselves look like idiots.
Oh also, those who probably paid to be a member today are probably going to end up paying alot more then just that.

Knowing how misinformed staff are on the game, to say "never" is still an assumption. When other hats become tradable, who's to say that won't be one of them? VFK_Wolf said he doesn't believe the hat will ever be tradable. He doesn't say it won't be tradable.

I found this by just searching for esec - ( Article from "The Age" dated 03 Oct 2002)
So, it seems a Paypal type outfit just located in Australia. Again, due to date, this may also have changed hands many times so just be cautious.
"Australian information security specialist eSec Ltd said today it had entered into an agreement to sell its internet payment gateway business to electronic commerce company SecurePay Pty Ltd.
SecurePay will pay $255,000 cash for eSec's merchant customer base, technology and business name.
SecurePay has made major investments in building the widest range of electronic payment solutions in Australia," SecurePay chief executive Laurence Webb said.
ESec said the sale will allow it to concentrate on its core information security business.
The divestment of our payments business in an important milestone in the process of focusing and consolidating the operations of the company," eSec chief executive Saxon Hill said."
Esec is also listed as a payment gateway. PayPal is on the list also. http://www.x-cart.com/xcart_payment_gateways.html

Well everyone you better trust who ever family you are entered into. To be added to a family you have to give the head person your login and password.
Ok I know they expect it to be all "family" but lets be realistic here. I think this is insane. We are told to guard our info and never give it out. To me this also means that VFK assumes you are communicating with people outside the game. I do not think this is good at all.....

WOW! I get the whole "family" thing, but let's face it. How many of us have 20 people in our families? If you do, how many of them will be playing vfk? SO...leads me to believe a lot of 'families' on vfk will be comprised of friends. DO NOT give your passwords to anyone! (Except Mom or Dad) Look at how many kids' accounts were banned from vmk because their brother or sister ran some scams on the game? At least that is what was claimed... Giving out your password is asking for trouble at minimum, scammed of your things is also a possibility and let's not forget all of your personal information linked to your account (name, date of birth, email address, etc.).
Good find, Bug! Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. Scary, as kids are far too trusting, as was shown time and time again on vmk.

My concern is the amount of mixed messages we keep getting (and good to see you Bugs). From the original "free to play" to the "48-hour deadline pay-to-play for extra goodies". From the "careful implementation where we control the beta numbers" to the chaos of the first day when all five beta groups dived in at the same time". Now this "kid friendly but give out the information" stuff.
As an aside to the poster who remarked that "we were willing to pay for VMK" - true. But VMK was 3 years old and a proven game. Very different from expecting payment for a game where the original beta members who registered on the first day, still don't have their titles. I just logged on and I was not the only player I saw who had a very low guest number. Apparently, if you want your title you have to track down a host to "remind" them or "use contact us". If their game system was robust, this should happen automatically just as it does on every other beta game I've tried this past month and a half.
For those who are playing and enjoying VFK, I really hope it works out for you. For myself, I've had it with a game that has only added a few static rooms since the last time I was on it. Back to Pirates, Toontown and Ravenwood where at least the graphics and game play are 21st century instead of early 1990s. It's also really nice not to have hosts around that some players somehow always are able to find and the rest of us can't locate in a hay pile. I know many liked the hosts in VMK and I agree they did a good job within the limits of the game. However, I don't think their presence adds a thing to a game but actually fuels a great deal of unnecessary jealousy. VFK seems to have adapted a lot of VMK's negatives but very few of the positives.
For those missing our lost community, I miss you too. Unfortunately, it will be a long time before we find a game that captured so many qualities as VMK. I'd rather do without and find solace in totally different games than try to make do with a pale, sad imitation.

I don't understand how any community moderation professional could have ever stepped foot in that game.....
For the most part, VMK mods were amazing at what they do. If it's the same people from VMK (which i still doubt, even with everyone's confirmed sources), I've lost a lot of respect for them. They basically gave this game their seal of approval by joining up and announcing that they were the same people, and it's awful- safety isn't a priority for the developers. I thought these moderators took pride in their work. I must have been mistaken.
sorry- /rant.You have nothing to apologize for; I'm sure there are many others who agree but just would rather not say anything.
While former VMK moderators are not to blame for the quality of VFK, I also can't help wondering why they're still there, if indeed they are who they say they are. I believe they have a responsibility to uphold the trust that has been placed in them because of their reputation. I can understand if they were initially misled about the safety features that would be in place when they took the job, but it is difficult to understand how any current/former child professional in their right mind would continue supporting VFK after seeing the inadequacy of that system.

Well, they DID pay for things. They get the silver hat and the spinning wheel, as well as the 70K credits. Also, being "worth" and "worth in the trading world" are 2 entirely different things.
Would I like a cute silver hat and spinning wheel? Sure! Do I feel the game is worth $50 atm, which I should not be spending anyway? Nope. It's a personal choice
Oh also, those who probably paid to be a member today are probably going to end up paying alot more then just that.
Absolutely. People's past spending habits are the best indicator there is for their future spending habits.

Nobody knows if anyone paid for anything, those pretty shiny new hats could have been gifts from the developers to get more people to buy their package. I don't know either way, but I've seen this in many instances, give someone something free, let them use it and watch how many flock to buy it. It's a sales tactic that has worked for a very long time. I could be wrong, there could actually be people out there who purchased into the whole "envy of the kingdom" spiel... :rolleyes1

I would not say there is a battle of the boards. I know that we have not disrespected any individual or mod of another board. All that has been provided were tools to help individuals make a decision. If individuals choose to take that information and use it maliciously against individuals who provided it so be it.

Look,
This game is similar to VMK. We will be getting some great new features that will further it to be closer to VMK. What did we all do when VMK was closing? Say "I would pay to play". Now when we get a site close to VMK, and we are offered to get new features by paying, we are screaming at them. They are not saying we must pay to play,in fact, it is close to the features VMK had without paying.
Just my two cents,
Dude
I TOTALLY agree! I personally wouldn't pay the $50, even tho i'm looking forward 2 its grand opening on the 4th, but you're right, the free version has all the options vmk, and the ideal virtual game have!
While I understand that many of you are upset at the flaming you received when trying to warn others, the all-too-sudden pay to play option and the questionable means vfk uses to execute those payments, look on the bright side! There's always the FREE MEMBERSHIP route! (Which I myself am going to take.) I may not get all the extras, (which in my opinion seem a bit unnecessary), but I'll still get to play vfk!
All I'm saying is, I see a lot of negative and not much of the positive. While I believe in some necessary criticism, i feel much more strongly that the boards should have some semblance of balance.
Btw... whatever happened to that map? Did it ever come out? And if so, pic plz? ;)

Good Morning!
As I stated before I too am fine with the free option. After a long restful sleep, here are my thoughts. A lot of this "stress" and "worry" could be eliminated if there was an extension of the deadline and an option to pay by bank or post office money order. I did just send this idea in via contact us.
Just my 2 cents.

Okay, I have decided this site is not a scam, we don't have enough info to
prove that. They may have very poor security and new experience to making
online games and they aren't very professional at it yet, but I think they're at
least trying. I don't think the money is worth it at all and I don't trust them

Okay, I have decided this site is not a scam, we don't have enough info to
prove that. They may have very poor security and new experience to making
online games and they aren't very professional at it yet, but I think they're at
least trying. I don't think the money is worth it at all and I don't trust them
with that kind of information yet either so I won't be buying it and I'll let the
people who want to buy it, buy it. :)
Well said shark. If anyone does want to buy in, just call them up like it says on their website and eliminate the not encrypted link connection between your computer and their system.
facts often get distorted, I said their payment system is not encrypted I didnt call them thieves. I have called them many other things though :rotfl:
if anyone would like to see an easy example of what I am talking about. Go to www.waltdisneyworld.com (http://www.waltdisneyworld.com)
not encrypted
click login
BANG, lock shows up. encrypted.
try it on VFK and it stays unencrypted. All information is transmitted in clear text.
Bad practice for any information you consider valuable, like... I dunno a credit card #? :rotfl:
again, call them up and do it, and the problem is solved.

Someone on another board found anouther way around the lack of encryption. They used a pre-paid credit card. No one can steal any money from it if it has no money on it anymore, right? While I think that person is crazy for buying into this Founders junk, I think that was a pretty good idea to use a pre-paid card.

All I care about here are the kids involved. Adults can dump money into VFK until their hair turns blue- they're all smart enough to see all the signs and make an informed decision. Kids aren't as well-equipped to deal with the situation, and VFK completely took advantage of them. I came across (and stayed with) VMK not because of the Disney-factor, but because it was an amazing kid's game. I haven't found a game this perfect for tweens since. VFK made promises they couldn't keep and created an unsafe environment. That's not okay.
Because they were offered employment to help pay to support their family through a company that they decided would provide them with a paycheck and a respectable job. Perhaps?
No, that's not what I'm saying at all. There's nothing wrong with taking a chance on a startup. There are lots of successful games right now that were started by a bunch of dudes, just like VFK. Dizzywood is in the same situation as VFK right now. Club Penguin was started by some Canadian guys and -like Ben and Jerrys- grew more than they ever could have imagined. There's a difference between these games though. Because they're targeted at kids and they understand skepticism that comes with an internet startup, Dizzywood has gone out of their way to show that they're serious about safety. They had an outside agency come into their game and test it to ensure that it's an ok place for kids to be. It passed without question. Club Penguin always kept safety as a top priority, and it's one of the reasons why the game is so successful. Both games are (and have always been) compliant with laws pertaining to child protection.
VMK moderators were amazing, and I don't see the same level of awesome in the VFK mods. Like I said before, they might just be reading from a different script now and play out different roles in VFK. I can't fault anyone for waiting it out to see what the game is like before making a decision- potential employees included. It's a different story once they got into the game, and saw that they couldn't do anything. The main job of a moderator is to keep kids safe. If you can't do that- why are you there in the first place? If you were a surgeon or an air traffic controller, would you accept a job where you didn't have any of the tools you needed to do the job right? I know that I would be out of that place faster than you can say Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, but I probably wouldn't have joined in the first place. I would never join an organization that I didn't fully support, so yes, in a way they did give their seal of approval for the game by joining it and saying that they were the same people that kept VMK safe and fun for all.
I seriously doubt that VFK was the only opportunity available to these moderators. As was described in their boss's blog (http://www.greypawn.com/?p=33), most had been doing this type of work for a while, and were the best group he (Sulake manager) had ever seen under one (virtual) roof. There are so many virtual worlds out there, and other choices for employment. There are a few big agencies that would snap them up in a minute, and I'm sure any game that directly hires their moderators would be interested as well. They were the best of the best, and I'm sorry to say that their talents aren't being used fully if they really are still with the game.
I certainly support small businesses, but they have to go the extra mile to show that they're serious about it. Dizzywood has, Club Penguin has, VFK has not. I can haz integrity??
edit: thanks Alice- totally missed your reply before I posted, but thanks for the confirmation (in a much more succinct manner than I managed!)

Would I accept it in the beginning? Not if I knew that going in.
Would I stay after I found out? Maybe. If I cared enough about the customers to want to stay to try to protect them the best I could. Maybe, just maybe, my knowledge and experience could help make a difference.

Little question. Has anyone who's written to VFK heard anything back from them? My mom's having a login problem now. She forgot the password she used for her VFK account and there isn't a password recovery link anywhere for VFK yet that we can find. So now she's having to rely on them to reply to her to get her password fixed. Just wondering if anyone else has heard back. Goodness knows I haven't even though I've been writing them on a fairly regular basis because I am still Guest1563 since day 1. Thanks guys!:thumbsup2

They will also give you your title. I have had to call twice and Gail never rushes me through the conversation. I am curious do you think people on the map is really a bug? I hope it is as I find it slow to get to a room if you have to walk to the bottom of the screen to get to it. Sorry you can't get in, HPgal. I'm not sure why they aren't just opening to everyone- I don't think there would be an overwhelming amount of people joining, but that's the choice they made (although I can probably guess at why that is). I asked one of the developers about this a few days ago, and she said that today the game would be open to anyone who registered on the waiting list, but it won't be open to the public for a while. Not sure what a while means to them, but considering their development timeline, it could be next week! I have a feeling that their next big pledge drive will occur in three months, so that might be when they start thinking about going public.
The map certainly is interesting, but I don't think that's what anyone had in mind. It's a neat feature, but when you want a map, you want to get somewhere fast. It's just as frustrating to navigate the map as it is to get anywhere without it. Maybe they could fix it so you only exit to a room when you stop on a square instead of anytime you walk over one. I wonder why they don't want to have a regular map though...

Uh being that Canada is a commonwealth country I am sure many would want a British Flag and not to mention the UK Players????? I would choose a British Flag over an American any day. Sorry to burst you bubble.
I think it was very thoughtful to include the British flag because they were part of the founding of the USA. With out the British you would not be celebrating independence day :)

I'm sorry Belle, I wasn't thinking. You're right, if I lived in the UK or Canada (or someplace else) I would feel the same way. Thanks for putting me back in my place. ;)

Sorry bug if you read it that way. But being Canadian I am very proud of the monarchary. The Queen is Head of our Country. Yes she is on our money too. So if given the choice of Flags yes I would choose The Birtish flag all the time since there is a direct link to it. Not that your Flag is not nice but means nothing to me.
And that is the one thing I always hated about VMK here you had epcot but we always got an American flag and one I remember we could not trade.
I have no idea what you found offensive. It is true to have a history game you should include the flag of the other side which is the British and it ia true without the fight you would not be celebrating independence day it would be United States Birthday just like Canada. No independence day just Happy Birthday :)

Once again it is all in the wording. I would never say anything bad about your flag or the British Flag but you make it very clear what you think of ours and that i find offensive.

I am very Happy they included both flags and never said I was not. To be historically correct they should have both flags but it would have been cool if the flags were made to look like the flags during that era. Ink and I decided one of us would get American and one of us would get British:) .

But if you could only choose one. That is my point which flag would you choose. I must be dense because I do not see it. If I could have two then it is not a choice.
And with 911 I did wear the Canada/US flag. The point was made why would anyone choose the British Flag.
Thus was my response. If I had to choose I would always choose the Canadian Flag First then the British then the USA and so on. It is nothing against the USA in anyway. Just because I would not choose it when given a choice of British or USA. It has to do with what means the most to me.
I am not looking at this as I do not like the US Flag. Just if I was given a choice of either flag just one choice what would I choose. The Birtish all the time. Because I was born when Canada had the Union Jack as its Flag.

What exactly has changed to make this Gamma besides the wording on a screen. With it being reported that Gail at VFK (lady that answers the phone) is now saying that the waiting list of people will not open today and will open up sometime next week. So besides the map last night I see nothing that would really indicate we are in a new stage. If I am missing something please let me know.

The Queen is Head of our Country.
Technically she is the Head of State of the Commonwealth of Nations (each nation being an autonomous community... equal in status to Great Britain.) Her role is more symbolic, as a focus for unity and identity, as each Commonwealth Community has their own government lead by a prime minster. The ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament only, not with the monarchy.
Just making sure that that those who might not know are 'educated' as we are being inundated with history from VFK. :P
Someone impress me and give me the 16 sovereign colonies that make up the Commonwealth of Nations. (There are a total of 53 states by the way!)

Yes that is correct. Yes her role is basically symbolic but still very sentimental to many Canadians.
We do have the Queen's Representative open our Government. Though again chosen by our Prime Minster.
I was not trying to get into a who knows what about Canadian history. Bottom line is if I had a American History test and a Canadian history test. I would pass the American and probaly fail the Canadian.

I just want to chime in to comment about some posts. Similar comments were brought up in the past when VMK Celebrated Independence Day. What the game makers choose to celebrate as a holiday is up to them.
Please note that the celebration today is in fact "Independence Day". The purpose of the celebration is to "celebrate a memorable day in American History". The celebration of Independence Day is always represented by decorations (e.g., streamers, balloons, and clothing) that are generally colored red, white, and blue, the colors of the American flag. While it was a nice gesture to include the British Flag, I agree with Bug it has nothing to do with Independence Day. It was to celebrate the American's Independence.

I have to admit choosing a flag to me is an odd choice for independance day also.
I mean, are they asking you to vote who you wish won the war? It's an American holiday. I can't imagine they celebrate American independance day in England do they? Shouldnt the union jack show up on a valid English holiday? I would be all for that, there is no other country besides my own I have more respect for. Just not seeing the connection.

Not only that, this was the third update today, and they left the others up. Today's quest was good, too.
My daughter joined today (she got on the waiting list yesterday) and she is guest 18186 so I would guess there are curently a little over 18,000 members so far. This sounds much more realistic to me than the previous estimate.

About the flags, I thought this quest was very good and I learned some things about US history. I play with my DD and she wanted the British flag. She said it reminded her of Epcot.:confused3 I thought it was neat that there was a choice of flags. I took the US and traded it to DD. The only downside of all these "choices" as quest prizes is that it encourages cloning.

I think this quest was the best so far. There was valuable information, and it seemed a lot shorter than the others as well (maybe that's just because I knew the answers!). A step in the right direction, but I'd still like to see them to make their quests less google-able, or at least provide an information source within the game to eliminate the need to search.
It's pretty interesting that at the end of beta, less than half of the names registered to join the game have returned to create their avatars, yet that 50,000 is still the only number we've seen them advertise about their game. I'd really like to know how many people are actively playing VFK, and I've been trying to use the guest room list and fan forum activity as a kind of gauge. There are usually one or two rooms close to capacity, then the numbers quickly jump down to three or four people in each room. The forum endorsed by the game averages about 25 people online, with its record-setting day (105 people) the day the game opened- another fan forum had almost identical stats.
If I had to guess, I'd say there are a few hundred people playing at peak times. That's not bad for a homebrew. Anyone have a better guess (or actual numbers)?

I hope everyone in the US had a safe and happy 4th of July!
Two topics to catch up on....
Map
THANK YOU!!! I do think that it is hilarious that we walk across the map. Map Races 2008: And they're off.... headed towards Stonehenge! Who will win? hehe
I know NOTHING about programming games, but it's interesting to me that we are in a room for the map, and run across the map, literally hitting the exits when we get to the words on the map.
I really don't care if I click, fly, or run across a map. Jut THRILLED to have 1.
4th of July Quest
I am not sure which surprises me more, the fact that we could win a Union Jack for a quest honoring American Independence or the fact that people don't understand how this is BEYOND offensive.
It's a quest honoring the 4th of July. That is an American holiday. Why on Earth would you offer a British flag for a prize??? That's insulting. Yes, America has its roots in Britain and the historical information in the quest should ABSOLUTELY include related facts, but to give the Union Jack as a prize on the day that signifies the Freedom of America? Why would you give out a British flag on the American Independence Day?
I understand that not everyone is American and may not want an American flag. I am not offended by that - it's not your country. However, to have a quest titled "4th of July" and give ANY other flag aside from that of the USA, is just wrong in so so SO many ways. Now, let us pick between today's US flag and the flag from 1776 - that would have been cool.
If we have a quest celebrating the victory of the Allies in WWII, should the prize choices include a Japanese or German flag, in addition to those from the Allies?
It's not about being American or not, it's about giving out the flag of the country from which independence was declared on a day that celebrates that very freedom.

Here are some stats for you that might help. There are three VFK dedicated forums out there that I know of. One has just over 1,600 members, another has almost 1,300, and the third has a handful. I know players often join more than one forum, so you have to allow for the overlap.
Then there are the VMK forums which are still very active. (In fact, I hope Disney is looking at this since I was amazed how many players are logged on any time I've looked) There may be some who are staying with a VMK forum and didn't join any VFK forums yet.
With that info, my best guess is around 20,000 who signed up. I'm sure some players lost registration info and maybe some never got around to joining after their initial registration. Seeing all the new guest numbers in the 18,000's surprised me since I thought we would be seeing numbers higher.

I never go by the pictures. Just like this board seemed to show pics of the same groups of players, I'm sure it will be the same on the VFK forums. Plus, you have about 30 players who are on the larger VFK forum for a good part of the day, posting often, and in the game just as much. More than half the members have zero or low post counts. So if the players who are playing for several hours are the ones posting the pics, you're going to see the same players over and over.

Most of the forums have the same members just like they did for VMK. Anyone who can find one board, will find the others. They most likely end up being active on one or two tops.
I guess we should have seen this number coming actually. I mean the savevmk.com site had 20,000 signatures the day vmk closed. That site had the advertisement for vfk and most boards were mentioning savevmk site on their boards.
Guess if we had thought about it before it would have been simple to find out ROFL
20,000 signatures, sure, but we have no way of telling how many of them were unique (I'd say way less than half, just based on the way these things usually go), and we can't assume that every single person who signed it also signed up for VFK, or even noticed/absorbed the advertisements. But anyway, based on the guest numbering, 20,000 is impossible, and we all know that there's no way that every one of the 18,000 accounts that have apparently been created are uniques.
Which VFK forum is it that has 16,000 members, Horse? The largest I know of has only 1,600-ish. Aengus is right on multiple forum memberships, especially for this crowd: we can assume that the people who are in the game today are the more 'connected' members of the old VMK community; forum-savy early adopters. So we can also assume that there is a higher rate of forum membership for VFK's player base than there was for VMK's - being more likely to have connections outside of the game itself, and to know the value of those connections, they're also more likely to sign up for the dedicated forums where they'll get the best information.
So, judging by the fan site numbers, I think it's a safe guess that a very high percentage of those 18,000 accounts are mules created by those 'power players', who missed out on VMK's beta (or didn't, lol) and wanted to accumulate some serious rare this time around. There are pretty clearly only a few hundred people playing at the busiest of times (sure as heck not the 8,000 that the vfk team claimed were online at once on the first Saturday). There may have been a few thousand individuals who signed up for the game. But the real question is, why did the team choose to inflate their numbers so grotesquely?

Vary, thanks for pointing out my error. :thumbsup2 I totally misread the number on their homepage. Just corrected it. Wow, either I better pop a new set of contacts in or get more sleep.
I agree their numbers are grotesquely inflated now seeing what you pointed out. But is that VFK or greedy players? I did see a player put up on a trade thread 100 of each of the nonbuyable magics from the quest. That means he has 200 accounts. And I've run into several players in the game with five star of each of the quest magics so they have at least 10 accounts.
I'm with you in my doubts that 8,000 players were on at one time. But with all the bugs, no well functioning friends list, and no map, who knows?

I hope everyone in the US had a safe and happy 4th of July!
Two topics to catch up on....
ETA: Oh, and I almost forgot: Gamma testing? ok........
Yeah, I agree completely

The exact player to mule ratio is bound to be inherently difficult to judge, and I wouldn't expect them to release a figure even if they had one. But there's a big difference between the 18,000 accounts we know have been registered and the 50,000 the team have said are playing. And why did they claim that there were as many people in VFK at the same time that first weekend - with absolutely nothing to do, back when even chatting was difficult - as were playing VMK at its absolute busiest times, usually weekend afternoons when there was an especially mule-worthy quest on? That's the inflation I'm talking about.

PERFECTLY said, Dreams. I am totally BEWILDERED by the fact that VFK is offering the British flag as a choice alongside the American flag in honor of our AMERICAN holiday - a day which is set aside so we can celebrate our independence FROM England. What the heck? :confused3 I don't want the British flag flying on my American holiday. I don't get this at all. Care to explain, VFK?
I understand some that play the game are not Americans, and I certainly have nothing against the British flag. BUT this is an American holiday for crying out loud. I'm getting really tired of everything nowadays having to be politcally correct so as to not offend anyone.
Enough.

My take on this:
Either way there would have been people complaining. If they just offered
the two kinds of american flags then I guarantee most people would say "im not american why would i want this american flag as a prize?!?" Either way people
would be complaining and either way it's just a quest prize on a game so I
don't really care.
EDIT:
I guess maybe the best prizes would have been the fireworks pin and maybe fireworks furniture
or clothing.

I think this quest was the best so far. There was valuable information, and it seemed a lot shorter than the others as well (maybe that's just because I knew the answers!). A step in the right direction, but I'd still like to see them to make their quests less google-able, or at least provide an information source within the game to eliminate the need to search.
I enjoyed the quest as well. Personally, I did not google the last 2 quests. Since it's multiple choice and you only go back one step(?) if guessing wrong(not bad considering VMK was go back even more it seems, re-enter rooms, try again...) I just wing it. If I guess wrong, I'm glad I don't have to leave and re-enter rooms.
Map THANK YOU!!!

I love having a map and like how we can walk/race on it!
Flags- I and some others were not offended, it was a quest where both countries were invovled to the event. Yes, it would have been neat to offer the 1776 flag or current one. However, they gave us a choice of flags, it was up to each individual which flag they wanted. Perhaps they will allow freedom of choice for any other quests like this. (I flew my American flag this weekend and respect my country and it's rights. Thank you to all our military men/women for their work)
I was happy to see them add the new players before they added another minigame for those already playing. I know there were many players patiently waiting since the close of VMK and some of them expressed how disappointed they were when VFK first told them it would be another week. Good job VFK in making this the priority instead.
I'm impressed by an update on the homepage at that late time which kept everyone in the loop on the status of fireworks. Even though it was bad news, at least we were informed.
Everyone hold on to something!
I totally think that rocks. Not only were they just honest, but they even could laugh at themselves by making a little joke about it.
Congrats VFK, you just pleased me without any "but" to add.
Glad to see this also Horse. And keeping us informed as well. Laughter is good for the soul and being able to laugh at themselves is something everyone should do.;)
About the flags, I thought this quest was very good and I learned some things about US history. I play with my DD and she wanted the British flag. She said it reminded her of Epcot.:confused3 I thought it was neat that there was a choice of flags. I took the US and traded it to DD. The only downside of all these "choices" as quest prizes is that it encourages cloning.
Cloning was perfected on VMK I thought. :lmao:
Your daughter said British flag reminded her of Epcot, I could see why as soon as you said that. There used to be red bus with flags (double decker I believe) with Mickey and other characters for meet/greet that went to Worldshowcase Plaza at the back of Epcot. Whether your DD remembers that meet and greet; or just that Epcot ball was before entering the countries in Showcase of which the UK is one of them. (Love the phone booths btw)

It's offensive to me that VFK would give out a prize of the people that virtually tortured the colonists. I have nothing against the present day UK, but everything against the revolutionary British that did not allow the colonists freedom of religion.

People came to America for various reasons, religion being one. American Revolution (which what the quest/choices of flag was about) was basically due to Taxation without Representation, not religion.

I know I probably speak for the rest of you, had this been VMK and they said a new game or something special was coming out, there would be no way I would have fallen asleep and possibly missed the 'new thing'. My post made no sense? Well it's true. My friend tried purposely to get
banned and she gave out fake personal info and VFK_Butterfly came and
banned her and she got stuck in single user mode for a day.
VFK_Ivy said it herself
single user mode WAS their way of banning. Now this banning system may
make no sense but my post was true.
It made no sense for my situation.

I just got in on the 5th and am also stuck in single user mode. I have been trying to complete the quest that I started, but have only gotten as far as the second clue which instructs me to go to a garden (which I cannot find) and repeat a line (although I cannot speak). :)
Any idea how long this isolation lasts? Is it self-correcting?

I was finally able to create a character today and play for a little bit. After I explored for a few minutes, I jokingly asked cita to give me her log in name and password so she could be in my family. I received my first warning after playing only ten minutes. :thumbsup2 Thanks VFK_Butterfly. Despite what I think about the integrity of the game and it's creators, it was nice to see that the game is in fact being moderated (at least at that particular moment).
After my brush with the law, Cita and I looked for the tens of thousands of people who are supposed to be playing this game and we found ourselves very alone and either extremely gigantic or abnormally teeny tiny. :confused3
I've come to the conclusion that it really wouldn't be so bad if I got banned. So if anyone wants to talk about passwords and stuffs come find C.lo in the game. ;)

While it was comforting to know the mods were watching out for info being passed, she seemed very annoyed with us for expressing our concerns about the safety of the 'family' system and I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but we both got booted to our rooms right after with completely frozen browsers. Could be cause after See went poof I said "ban me too people, and close this game until it's safe". Guess they didn't find that funny. She came out of it ok but I had to restart my computer. I couldn't get past level 1, the moment I noticed the timing was almost the same, the way that you move is exactly the same, and the feeling of the game is dead on VMK...I just lost it.
I spent my entire (almost entire) VMK life in that lobby, as many of you can attest. This is just a slap in the face and breaks my heart.
Feels just like the last time we all played fireworks together, Geggy, Days, Alias, Wonder, Jedi...all of us...except the magic is gone and never will return.

this piece of music in 1881 to commemorate Russia's victory over Napoleon's French army. He had the innovative idea to include real cannon fire and zvons (bells) in his overture at the climax, which gives this music its amazing sound! Today the 1812 overture is a song symbolic of freedom and is frequently played at 4th of July celebrations, like VFK's 4th of July Firework Game! So turn up your sound and get ready for the beautiful music of Tchaikovsky as you light the night sky with fireworks!
Instructions
The goal of our VFK 4th of July Firework game is to fill the night sky with sparkling fireworks, have a lot of fun, and earn a few credits too! Hitting fireworks as they turn into stars will earn the most points, remember exploding lower fireworks or fireworks before they become stars will still give you points, the higher the firework is in the sky before you explode it the higher the points!
Match the firework curser to the firework in the sky and click to explode. Exploding fireworks using the wrong color firework curser will not count as points but will still explode the firework. There are 4 levels, each with 3 rounds. Keep track of your score as well as your opponents between levels with complete score results between each level.
