Now that it's all over, what will you fill the void with? I'd like to tag along, but not really sure where everyone is going. I assume everyone will scatter, but I'm sure some groups will prevail and find a new game.

Just curious,
Mark

I have been on pirates of the caribbean since September of last year as a beta tester. I have a level 40 pirate on the live server so I will continue there. My pirate has the same name as I did on VMK "SneekyTiki" look me up if you want to I will be glad to help you in any way I can!

I won't be playing anymore online games for a while. I have a lot of real life projects to work on: sewing, painting my kitchen, working in my garden, putting photos in albums, making web pages, plus I have my medieval reenactment group, etc.

I will be checking in here at DIS most everyday to see what others people are doing. :)

I wanted to play a game called Wonderland Online but it is like impossible to level up past lvl30 so -_-I gave that one a shot too. I thought it had an interesting artistic look to it and you had houses you could decorate and stuff. But it was just too hard to figure out what to do. I quit after 3 days.

Oh, my trouble with the game is really about leveling otherwise I thought it was easy to understand crafting, mining, fishing, traveling around the world of WO. If you want to try to play again, I can help you if you need help to figure out things

Toontown was there for me before VMK and I will continue to play after, I have made great friends there and it is a game that I don't mind my kids playing, even my 2 and a half year old likes to jump around in there.

I have also hooked up with quite a few people here from Dis and showed them the ropes and helped them with tasks it is alot of fun when you have secret friends and can talk freely and work together.
If anyone is thnking of using the 30day free trial and would like a tour guide PM me :)

I've been trying a lot of games and so far the only one that I've gotten hooked on is Pirates of the Caribbean. It's not the same kind of game as VMK but it's a lot of fun in a different way. I signed up for an unlimited account (I hope I can still get my 30-days free from Yavn too).

In spite of VMK closing, I'm still a Disney fan first and foremost. I love the PotC movies. We did the "Pirate and Princess" party when we were at WDW two weeks ago. I think I can really get into the pirate thing. I even got a nice tricorn pirate hat and Disney should be sending me a flag with my crew kit soon. pirate:

I'll keep trying other games. Maplestory looks interesting as do those IGG.com games. I had a friend invite me to "World of Kung Fu" this week and I've been meaning to try "Pirates, Vikings, Knights" for a long time. Where ever I go I'll be looking for DIS friends to hang out with.

I'll be sticking to Animal Crossing on my Nintendo DS for now. I'm still up for trading friend codes with fellow DIS people so I can visit y'all's towns. :)

I look forward to being on Lego Universe (http://universe.lego.com/en-US/default.aspx) when it opens late this year or early next.

I'd like to try Second Life, if I can find someone to show me how the heck to play it.

Otherwise, I'm really not too keen on participating in any Disney online 'promotions' any more.

I am still searching for another online game to play... But I am afraid, I will not find another VMK.

My DS12 is looking forward to Fusion Fall (http://www.fusionfall.com/). It is going to be an MMORPG kind of like World of Warcraft, only with all the Cartoon Network characters and some platforming elements added in. They are signing up for the beta now and should be open for beta late this summer.

I was on Gaia the other day and there were some really inappropriate room titles. (if that is what they are called) and some inappropriate discussions. When I say inappropriate I mean something I would not want my 14 and 11 year old kids reading.

Very true. It's supposedly PG-13, but I have seen some very questionable topics there. But, you really don't have to deal with people outside your friends. Game rooms can be locked from people joining, rooms can be locked except for friends, etc.

You can also go into the towns area and find those areas that have no people in them. Theaters show how many people are in them and just choose those that are empty. Avoid the foums other than the bump threads and just post the word bump on those threads. Also, you can change the word filtering to Very Strong Filtering in account preferences.

The stuff can be avoided. But, I do agree, I really wouldn't want kids to be playing it by themselves.

Unfortunately, from what I've seen and heard, those games safe for kids are generally too young for tweens and eveything else is questionable.

Hmmm, I posted to this thread last night but my post has disappeared.

Oh well, all I said was that I'm on Pirates already, level 34, but I'm bored over there. I don't think they've developed it enough yet. It gets really repetitive and, after a certain point, all there is to do is level up weapons etc.. Hoping it gets better.

I would be trying VFK if I could get in today. LOL!

let's see, I will be playing the dreaded real life game(no not the game that is mentioned above)...Which includes the following mini games:
1. The unpacking game - now that my family moved into our new home (well we actually moved in april, but i was at school, my mom was at my old house, and my dad stayed here, but lazy all winter long haha), and we finally sold our old house (and closing soon woot!!!), I have started unpacking the boxes in my room, and hopefully soon start the basement... (it is one big mess)...
2. The working game: i will be working hopefully (still need to find a job)....
3. The slave game: taking care of the princess and the princes of the home (the cats and the guinea pig)....
4. The get out of hell game: looking for a new college to transfer to....(The college i am enrolled at needs to learn how to run a school)
5. The what seems to be five minute of vacation game, with two different sub-mini-games (i guess): Cruise to the caribbean (family bonding time, with the almost entire family, at least the complain about everything part of my family aren't going!) and The Real Magic Kingdom (WDW in July!!!! with my boyfriend ^_^ WOOT!)

So it's going to be a one full filled summer, with all of the games I HAVE to play, but heck I am going to WDW!!! Woot!

I did sign up for vfk, and i have a pirate account though i don't play it that much (take too much time, and i keep telling my self one more task -_-) , i may not be on much but i surely be checking in on everything.

hi, could you elaborate a bit more of what its all about?

Sure!
In Sociotown you play as a person. You choose the look and clothes of your avatar (although it is limited) The town is very neat, it has a town center park, stores (where you can buy furnish, music, equipment, clothes) and there are places to buy food. There are also many apartment buildings. Eventually you can rent an apartment and furnish it. The money is called so bucks... I believe you can use real cash to buy sobucks as well as earn them in game (but they add up slowly), I have yet to get to that though. You can play mini missions and After your third mission you can get a job in town. I am working at the Burger Despot! lol I was even given a uniform! you can work once a day to earn town points and I think Sobucks. i am still trying to figure out the sobucks thing. There are NPC's that you visit daily that talk to you and you choose a given response. It is actually pretty fun!
The way you start the game is unique... I will let you try it as to not spoil the fun. I found it by doing an online search. give it a try... it is FREE! I am FancyPirategirl in the game... you meet people by introducing yourself " I am FancyPirateGirl" when you give them your name you can become friends.
If anyone trys it let me know if I can help.

Be aware though, it doesn't seem to have much of a filter, it hasn't stopped us from saying anything we've tried to say including names and numbers and odd titles like cita. I haven't seen any bad language, but I have seen people asking how old are you and things like that, no idea what the moderation is, though there is a report button. I'd check it out carefully before allowing kids to play. I haven't yet read on the site whether it claims to be kid friendly or not. It also seems to have broken my shockwave player, I'm trying to fix it now and will post again.
:hippie: Mamacita

edit: My shockwave is fine now, I think it was my computer and not the game. I see nothing in the game info saying what ages this is appropriate for so proceed with caution :)

I will let you know if I get any feed back from my opinons. SInce it is still in beta form I hope it will be reeled in a bit more. I am enjoying the game however. I can currently be seen running around town with a net trying to catch bugs.

I've moved onto POTCO and am absolutely loving the quest aspect of it. I find the game VERY addicting as I love to accomplish and solve tasks... but I'm still missing a game where I can just hang out and chat with friends. So.... still on the lookout. I've signed up for numerous games, checked them out, but nothing has really grabbed me yet. Probably for the best right now since I dont really have the time for another online game. :rolleyes1 But I'm keeping an eye out for anything that looks promising because I seriously need to chat without breaking out into auto-run or jumping up or wasting a tonic ... :teeth:

I do have a POTCO thread on the VMK Community Board if there are any DIS adults that are still guild-less that would like to join up with a bunch of old and lame (but wild and wacky) jail birds... :dance3:

I'm just mad that the girls don't have a choice of red hair, but that's ok. I was hidden behind SeeLow in that picture, but the cool thing is you can rotate the camera angles.

My version of the dance looked quite different. :teeth:

And the dance moves are quite silly. There's a "clap" feature that makes you look like a trained seal, and a "sitdown" feature that I actually wish we had in VMK.

I didn't think I'd join another game so soon, but the description of this one intrigued me. I did my first "mission". You get one mission per day. I covered some guy with an excuse to miss a date with his girlfriend. She doesn't like me, but the guy owes me one for trying to cover for him.

And did I mention that you start the game IN JAIL? That was interesting. LOL!

There is a report feature. And yesterday, I got to see someone actually use it! Surprisingly enough, help came "in person" to discuss the issue with the inappropriate mail message.

I don't think this game is moderated enough. The game designer said it was meant for ages 13+, but I saw many people telling their ages, and one boy sent me his email address. We voiced concerns about that.

There is a report feature. And yesterday, I got to see someone actually use it! Surprisingly enough, help came "in person" to discuss the issue with the inappropriate mail message.

Another great feature from VMK (when not abused)

They both were feature that were a great help when used correctly and would really love to see them in other games

I tried that socia town thing and was highly disappointed. I had not been in the game 15 minutes and had made my way to the appartment guy or my sponser what ever he is called when a guy followed me and started talking. he was saying how sexy i was and i needed to go on a date with him. blah blah blah. I just wanted to go in and check out the game not get accosted right off the bat. I could not get rid of this guy he followed me everywhere. so I left the game and have not been back

Delicious- I am so sorry! I thought I may have seen you breeze thur last night:confused3 Sorry for your bad expierience, do keep in mind that you did get the occassional knucklehead on vmk too. AND nothing will ever replace what we had there.

They really need a way to prevent people from following you around or an ignore button so you can block out inappropirate chat if necessary. Also, once someone talks to you or listens to you talk for a minute or so, they automatically join you inner circle of friends giving them the ability to send you mail. I wish there was a way to boot people out of your inner circle of friends who you don't want there.

It was nice to meet the game developer and have him inquire about our likes and dislikes of the game. He told us to make sure we voiced our concerns through a feature on the homepage.

All and all, we just enjoyed hanging out with each other.

Oh, and btw, I wasn't blocking Briar in that picture, she's actually only behind me because she was stalking me...as usual. :)

furcadia? do tell @_@

For those that want info (not sure your do tell was more info wanted or the "what are you doing there kind of do tell" hehe

Basically a role playing site I believe and certain parts/areas are definitely NOT for children. You can set a "standard" to not enter certain areas I believe but I've not experiemented with this feature. No, I don't do the role playing there either...I would not let children wander around there with free reign.

I'm there basically to meet with a few of my friends and to build "dreams or rooms." It may not be for everyone, you need to start from scratch...you add everything...floors, walls, items; and takes a little to learn but is still somewhat easy (I can build there but can't figure how to post pic here - go figure) :rotfl2:

It is completely different from VMK or VFK, but I enjoy the part to build and some of those I've seen from others. Let me just say again, it is different and NOT for children to wander in. pm me if anyone has questions.

It seems like we are all a little lost right now. I know I am. I have looked at several other games and none of them seem to be a good fit. :(

Edit: I just looked at the igg games. They are free and have 24/7 live online chat support. The games are recommended for 16 years and up. I told them my daughter is 12 and they said that she may need some assistance with understanding the game. I doubt that! She usually runs circles around me. We will check it out and let you know.

Edit again: We downloaded Wonderland from igg. As I predicted, my 12 year old was able to figure out what to do before I did. Her review: It's a fighting game and it's lame. So I guess we keep looking.

I am so disheartened in my search for something fun to play, it seems that I have looked at everthing and nothing fits the bill. Bearville is probably closest to a VMK style, but the games are more suited to younger players. Do the games get any better if you buy a bear?

Guess I will head back to my Webkinz, because at least the games are interesting, and making recipes amuses me also. I take no joy in being a pet though. I miss my little Lady, with her pretty Dreams ears

I have created a room on sociotown.com. But before i tell you where the room is in game, let me say that while the game has a report button and an ignore button the chat is completely open. So I suggest that small children are either not allowed to go on the site or are supervised while there. Most of the older younglings know better I am worried about the small kids that may read this. Peeps do not and I mean DO NOT for any reason give out any info about yourself outside what you could say in VMK. Stay safe and be smart.

I made this room for a private place for us to hang out while we figure out what we are going to do next. And it allows for some privacy in the company of friends making it a tad bit safer for the kids.

Ok once you create a character there and get out of jail ... LOL, click on the map button. and now you want to go to the most south west corner of the town. My room is in the apartment building called Evan's Cove. It is on the second floor and my title is Hyperion. You can just go right in, and if you run into some good friends then so much the better.

Hugs you guys see you around.

I think the basic earlier sims would be ok, rated teen only bc of things like the sims being able to 'get frisky' in bed, and can have 'children'. There's a lot that goes into sims, it's not easy like vmk was.

I have been playing Wonderland for about 2 weeks now. The game is cute (anime style characters) . There are quests to be done and most of them either involve rescuing lost pets, livestock, finding hidden items etc. This does however require for the most part to defeat certain (cute) monsters like Pinapple monsters, Irrigated Chickens, ants , earthorms etc. For these quests you can get help from a local village chief who gives you a somewhat experienced villager to accompany you. You collect lots of items. Some are food and others can be sold for "gold" which then can be used to buy many different items. As you start the game you are limited to local chat and friends chat. At level 10 you can then use your "radio" to enter World chat. Very useful for asking question or asking to trade for items or buy items. For instance I need nylon rope to make a raft. Have found none at all so once I reach level 10 I can start asking to buy or trade for some. You also have magic spells and can also make potions from the items you collect. You also learn how to make things from the items you collect, like fishing rods, canoes etc. So if you don't mind fighting cute little enemies it is quite fun. If you want you can play as a team with other players of your choice making some tasks much easier especially for lower level players.. You also can totally disable the chat for younger children or use filtered chat. It has live support which is accessible from your friends list throughout the game.. I have to say that leveling up takes time and patience as the stronger beasties will make fast work of you and the lower ones give fewer points, but that is better than getting wiped out the higher levels, because if you do you lose a point in your leveling progress...There is a messaging system to communicate directly with your friends..The settings are very pretty tropical islands with lots of tikis. I haven't found any problems with foul language so far but for the most part I keep my chat off inless I need help finding items...hope this gives you a little information...Buy the way the "newbe guide" is very basic and not all that helpful but is worth the read. After that it is learning from trial and error. There is an element of education to the game that I like, for instance you can get something special from NPC by answering certain math and science questions correctly. Also making items requires you to use a sort of blueprint to correctly build your items. If they are not done correctly they wont' work, for instance your raft won't float if you use Oak wood instead of Luana wood... Hope this gives you a little information on the game :thumbsup2

Hey guys-

I don't know why I didn't put this out there before, but there's a pretty good resource with a listing of nearly all the active Virtual Worlds (you'll probably notice a familiar one not listed :rolleyes1 ). There are tons of these games out there, and the group that produced the list is committed to updating it compulsively. It's a pretty impressive list- and a huge pdf, so be warned- but they've tagged each with keywords so it should be fairly easy to find ones you might want to investigate.

iVinnie's Blue Book (http://www.ivinnie.com/thebluebook/pdf/the_blue_book_may_2008_edition.pdf)

It's great to see everyone sharing games they've found. I love the way everyone is asking critical questions about these games, too. No game is safe from the Disboards investigative team!

My daughter and I tried this game. I think it was too frustrating to figure out at first for her and just too time consuming for me right now to learn. The one awesome thing about the game is the live support. I must have contacted them at least five times just trying to get the game downloaded (certain issues with Vista) and up and running. They were very patient and helpful each time.

I and a few other vmk adults and older kids have been hanging out over here this place I am about to post. The game is still in beta and has a few bugs still in it, but the play, graphics and conversation are awesome. IMHO

We have been in contact with the owner/creator and he is a great dude. He created the game himself and while it is limited in the non-pay version at this time he is listenening to all suggestions. He wants to make the game the best it can be and even after just a few days of play has adapted a few of out suggestions to his game. He added an ignore button the next day after we asked for it. He is working on a lock button to keep people out of rooms, and a way to allow non-paying users a way to get some things. He is working hard on fixing the bugs so we can have something as mooth and flowing like we were used to and bring us on in style. I think for the target audience of 13+ that he is shooting for, it makes a great hangout.

The graphics are awesome and it is a true 3D environment. You can adjust camera angles and zoom level, look up and down. I find it very amusing to look at the moon at night there. Oh I didnt mention it gets dark outside just like the real world. You should wander over there and check it out (parents and bigger kids first please) and give it a go. The intro in the sign up process is cute, everyone starts out in jail. Chris has kind of a warped sence of humor and if you look around you will catch glimpses of it everywhere. From one of my favorite street name (Socio Path) to the name of the burger joint (Burger Despot) you can catch glimpses of his sence of humor everywhere.

He has a board over there that he is a member of and responds to suggestions and concerns directly. Got a question about the game ask it over there. Most of the peeps i have met have been really cool and enjoyed talking to them. I am sure you will find it the same way.

But I want to make a few things clear about the site though. The chat is completely open. This makes is inappropriate for smaller kids. There is a report button and when you use it Chris (the owner) takes care of things personally. It is not to be used lightly, he dont have time for BS and you will get banned I am sure if you play with it for no reason. He has stated that as the game grows he will be adding in game guides (Mods) that will be able to moderate the gameplay more and be able to react quicker to things which I find very cool.

LOL Some dis peeps last night were saying he should hire the MOM Squad from here. ROFL You can bet your sweet bippy that they would make peeps tow the line.

There are places for him to expand the world (different paths) and personally I cant wait to see what he has in store for us. There is so much potential for this place and with us Dis'ers in there it will do a lot for keeping it a safe and friendly environment. If the MOM squad get their hands on some mod controls there would be a new sheriff in town. ROFL But until then we have our common sense and the commen sense we have instilled in our kid about revealing personal info. So be smart and PLAY SAFE.

Ok so since it is not kid appropriate I wont post a direct link but since I have a subscription and one of the perks is a newsletter, in which btw, he mentions us, I will post that up here for open discussion.

He has also asked me to pass this on to you. Should you decide to Pay to Play there is a code you can enter that will allow you to get $4 dollars off your first month in game. It is VMKREFUGEE. Use this code in the right place on the subscription page and it will cut the cost in about half for a month. But do the guy a favor and keep any mention or discussion of it off the board over there. His current customers would use it and it wont help him at all if they know about it. So lets keep that one to ourselves please.

http://www.sociotown.com/newspaper/SocioTown_Journal_Issue008.jpg

A good tip for you new peeps:

Choose your avatar's look and hair wisely as well as your clothes. At this point you can't edit them or change clothes with a non-pay mode. So make sure you look the way you want.

Also if your trying to log in the server maintenence is from 3-5 am west coast time so dont dispair if your trying to get in at that time.

I'm going to be playing Real life, a game where the sky is the limit and sometimes even dreams come true. It has nice graphics and I hear my server's going to fire all of the moderaters for the summer. I'm going to be playing my favorite minigame with my friend Sarahthewise called Friendship, maybe I'll get the high score. I'm hoping to get to level 100 for the skills of living, loving, and relaxation. Maybe my math skills will even improve so when the new mods in the fall I can be officialy leveled into a new class since I'm currently at level 20 and my goal is to be at level 40.

Am I crazy, or does "Sociotown" remind you of the word "Sociopath?"

one of the roads in sociotown is, in fact, named sociopath :rotfl2:

The art for elf island is gorgeous. I hope the techincal and moderation ends measure up! The last site I saw that was that pretty turned out to unfortunately be very light on the community management end (it's more or less descended into chaos now - I shall not speak its name, but I don't think I've seen it brought up on this thread.) But if they have their moderation act together as well as they do their artistic one, it'll be one to watch for sure.

I don't know if I'll play another game. Right now I'm enjoying an art site where most of my VMK friends are.

A little bumpy :)

Elf Island merits a place on this list - http://www.elfisland.com — It’s a revolutionary Virtual World for kid’s ages 8-12, that is due to launch late summer 2008.

Here’s a top line overview of the site and its mission.

- We’re coining a whole new genre of gaming: Gaming for Good ™, which empowers kids to play an active role in making a difference in the real world.

- Elf Island is the first and only virtual world that uses what we’re calling Mirrored Gaming™ — which is based on the exclusive premise of practicing good online and reflecting that same good offline.

- Elf Island leverages the power of fun through entertaining game play, social interaction and storytelling while encouraging kids to understand they have the power to influence change in the world.

Riddled with differentiators from any site currently in the market, Elf Island is an amazingly creative environment that opens up new opportunities for giving back and delivers a new level of fun and fulfillment. Elf Island’s founders are award-winning game industry veterans (and devoted parents) who have created youth-focused online promotions and experiences.

I just hope it's not too pricey. I get the feeling it will be a pay game. Still, looking forward to it's launch this summer! I love the new animations they've added to the original site. I just wish there were more information there. I've requested more info, and sadly have had no response. It's been over a week. I hope that isn't a sign!

And perhaps we should caution people not to get themselves stuck in toilets. :rotfl2: I know it's happened to both of us. I've also fallen into sofas. I was crying from laughing so hard at the game bugs.

hehe, I know. I don't want to work at a stinking job on a virtual game. But get this, as your prepping dinner, logon go to work then log off. The clock still counts your time (although your shift is two hours). Or you can wait when you go to bed at night and go to work. Heh, who would of thought I would be working in food service again. LOL

I'm waiting for my Wizard 101 email, so in the meantime I decided to check out Runescape today, since there are non-combat options for players there.

I wasn't doing too badly until I was trying to find my way back to Lumbridge Castle, got lost in a forest of dead trees, accidently started chopping one, and died for some reason.

There's certainly a lot to explore. I just wish it was easier to see stuff on the mini-map!
