Ok so once again... I am at OKW right now. It is 2:20am and thought we were in a very quiet building until our upstairs neighbors decided to come home really late and use the jacuzzi! It goes for so long and then stops. They have restarted it it alreayy 3 times and now even the darn jacuzzi is tired and acting up.
Heads up people.... if you are under one of them... it is LOUD and when it refuses to start... give up cuz it sounds like a car with a stalling engine to the folks you were and are still trying to get a good nights sleep. I make my 3 yr old walk and speak quietly when we are in our room because the walls are not sound proof and some people don't want to be on vacation and hear my child bounding around in excitement.
However, I think maybe I am being too considerate sometimes as others really obviously couldn't care less if we heard them or they woke us up at all hours!
Sorry ti b**** . I am so tired and pregnant and have to take my 3 year old to the Pirate and Princess party tomorrow night with a smile on my face even though I will feel like crap probably.:sad2:

Wow...your not getting a good start:hug:

That is definately rude to use the jacuzzi in the middle of the night:scared:
I hope you can squeeze a nap in today.

Haven't had that issue...yet but we did stay in another timeshare and the people above us let their child play with a golf ball. The little darling liked to bounce it on the floor...our ceiling....every time they were in the unit. Thought my DH was going to have a stroke! Since then, we request a top floor room. We have not always had that request honored. One time we had circus ponies above us as the kids just raced through the unit from room to room several times a day and night.

It happens at all locations - hotels and timeshares. You don't even want to know about the people next to us in our last Marriott Spring Hill Suites stay!!:scared1: I just don't think some people realize that these places are not soundproof. I know we aren't always the greatest "neighbors" even though we try but I sure wish more people were aware of how sound travels.

I was in a hotel last week in Dallas. Around 11:30-12:00, a couple in the next room decided to get "romantic" and were very loud. Either that or they were watching an "adult" movie with the sound turned way up!:lmao:

They must have been in that Marriott we stayed at in Detroit in Feb!!!!

And I have never said this before but I can't wait to go home. I have had enough. Tonight is our last night and we fly home tomorrow evening!!! Think we'll wait a while to savour the magic again after this trip!

Don't let it ruin your trip.

We stayed at BWV this May in a Boardwalk View room. On our last night I was kept up for hours by loud drunks who were parked at the outside pizza tables. The longer I lay there listening to them, the more I wanted to scream at them from my balcony.

I didn't let it ruin my trip, though. I've decided that quiet is more important to me than a BWV so now I'll go standard or pool view. Maybe next time you can request top floor.

Sorry you were up all night.

When you see the smile on her face, it will come to yours without effort. Sorry for your noisy neighbor. :headache:

I have discovered the trick of a well placed broom handle to the ceiling will usually give the offenders a clue. If that doesn't help, I'm not above knocking on a door. I have also called the offending unit and reminded them that there are neighbors and they don't "live alone". It doesn't happen often, but it does happen no matter where you are staying. We once had kids above us who delighted in bouncing a super ball at 5 AM nearly every day! That's when I learned the broom handle trick. :thumbsup2

Ok, the ones above you with the superball must have been the ones above us!

Sorry to hear you have had a less than magical time, OP. Maybe it can still turn around.:)

I have read a couple of posts now about noise at OKW. Is the construction of the building what's contributing to the noise? At BWI one year, we had to call the front desk to tell our next door people to cut out the noise. They came back from ESPN Zone after a Redskin/Cowboys Monday nite football game. Need I say more? Even the securitypeople had to keep knocking and yelling to get them to open the door! After that, it was quiet. Is there security at OKW to handle complaints?

Oh, and those who let their kids play with the pots and pans on the tile floor in the kitchen are gems too!

Our worst was tennis shoes in the dryer. :headache: Must have sent those suckers thru three cycles!

It wasn't abnormally late, but still annoying as heck for a couple hours.

Fortunately that was our only real issue at a DVC resort. :thumbsup2

I haven't even stayed in a DVC yet!! My experiences were with Marriott and hotels! I just think people think they are as well insulated as houses. I really don't want to think people realize how much the sound carries!!

Our trick when we travel is a sound machine. They sell them at walgreens, wallmart.... It cost about $25. You can turn it up as load as you need it and it drowns out almost all the noise. I am a light sleeper and travel all the time. I struggle with door slamming and it really helps with that as well. So you can have ocean, wind, falling water...sounds

It works great!

I tried my Ipod on the trip to Detroit and even that couldn't drown that couple out!!

There is. We were there one night and got a little too noisy in one of the pools after 11pm. Someone called and we got a visit from someone from the resort and a member of security. They were nice about it, and I certainly wouldn't hesitate to use them if there were problems at night.

We too have been victims of the bouncing golf ball, and I will admit to being annoyed. It was nice to be on the ground floor for access to the vehicles and moving luggage, but I am now more inclined to ask for a top floor. It's tough to take a mid-day nap with bouncing balls going on.

Another idea like the sound machine I just read in a magazine this week. Turn the tv on a channel with just "snow" and turn the darkness down. Sounds like a great idea to me!

:thumbsup2

PS Don't stay under a grand villa - especially at Hilton Head - they are full of rampaging elephants!!!!!

It's tough to be under a GV at OKW too. The hardwood floors in the dining room/living room/kitchen echo really badly in the second bedroom below. You hear ever chair that is moved at the dining table above.

Once at a timeshare in Williamsburg the folks above us were quite big and made lots of noise just walking around. My kids 4 and 6 at the time were making a game out of it and running and laughing to get away from the monsters. Since I was annoyed at all the noise, I didn't stop my kids.

They came down to yell at us. That was a tough one. Did I tell them that they sounded like a herd of bison ambling about and my kids were merely making a game of it, or just suck it up and apologize and make my kids ignore them. It was one of my nicer days, so I just apoligized and had my kids be quiet.

I had never thought of this! More people, more noise. You can bet I will pay careful attention to our room assignment from here on!

I am not sure if I could have been so kind. It is pretty funny that they made a game out of it, though!!!

I haven't ever had this problem at WDW, but I've had it in hotels. Depending on what things sounded like, I've either knocked on their door and politely asked them to quiet down, or called the front desk.

Either of those options are a simple fix. I certainly would not have sat there and listened to it very long at that time of night.

These days, I think I would just call the desk. We mentioned our issue to the desk the next day and they apologized all over the place and said they would have handled it. Thing is, our teenage boy slept thru it. If we had gotten up to make the call, he would have woke up and we sure didn't want him to hear it! Between a rock and a hard place with this one. There was one time we complained and it got quieter...not quiet...just quieter. But hey, it was an improvement.

THis sort of thing happened to us at OKW many times--until we finally decided that we would only stay on the top floor. Too bad ,because the ground floor is quite convenient. But with herds of cattle above us each and every trip, peace of mind became more important...

When we stayed at OKW in Dec 06, we encountered loud guests on our first night there. We thought it was ironic because we stayed the first 2 nights at AS Movies and we were NEVER disturbed by noisy neighbors. We moved to OKW and the first night we were awakened by some loud "kids" arriving in late. We finally called the front desk and the noise stopped. The rest of trip was very peaceful though!

We had very noisy neighbors at OKW in Jan. It literally sounded like the kids were jumping up and down. This happened several times. Later at night and really early in the morning. My DDIL called the front desk on 2 occasions. We have never even heard our neighbors at SSR.

We were at OKW in Jan this year and noticed thin walls and ceilings. We could hear a normal conversation coming from next door. At night we could hear the squeak of the bed upstairs and they were not even getting "Romantic". We did not encounter the same thin wall problems at either BCV nor VWL. Needless to say we were not thrilled. For me, I'll use OKW as a last option now. Thin walls are not my friend. Just glad we were at OKW only 2 of our 12 nights.

The slide at the pool was fun though.

I feel for you!!! I have been in a situation like that before. Now, we tend to stay up late, however, the people above us were obnoxious!!! After the 3rd night of trying to stay calm and put up with the constant flushing of the toilet, pitter patter of many little feet, we called security!!!! The parents/adults went out nightly, and left 6 kids alone in a 2 BR!!!! Teenages babysitting!!! These kids went crazy all night!!!

It really puts a damper on your vacation!!! WE always request an upper floor even though my husbands knee kills him everytime we move into our room and have to lug the suitcases up the stairs!! I always remind him of that time with the constant flushing of the toilet!!!!

I would call security if it continues. you are entitled to some quiet enjoyment!!!

A few years ago I was at a Hyatt in Boston on a business trip. My plane got in quite late, I arrived, checked in, put on jammies and crawled into bed.

And the guy in the connecting room had fallen asleep listening to ESPN. Loud. I could clearly hear basketball scores. I knocked on the connecting door - no answer. I put a pillow over my head, no good. I took sleeping pills and laid awake. I called the front desk after 40 minutes of this - at 1:00 in the morning.

They agreed to move me to an empty room - the room number they gave me was across the hall and a few doors down. I packed up my toothbrush, threw my dirty clothes into my bag, grabbed my stuff, and camped outside my new room for five minutes - in my jammies - until someone arrived with a new key. I was nodding off against the door by the time they arrived. I walked in, left my stuff inside the door, crawled into bed, and fell asleep.

When I woke up the next morning, I had an amazing view of Boston Harbor - I'd been moved to the "good" side of the hotel and upgraded.

Doesn't OKW have a quiet hour after which guests are required to be quiet? Most resorts do, don't they? If that happens again I would call the front desk to mediate the problem.

I would say that's pretty rare at OKW as we've not run into it.

PS WalMart sells good ear plugs for less than $2.
