I was just wondering if getting a reservation in summer hard to get? I just assumed that it would be easy. Am I kidding myself? I was thinking around the end of July. What do you all think? I'm not really picky on which DVC I stay at. My home resort is AKL-Kidani Village doesn't open until next year, so I'd like to try out some new resorts before then.

well I tried to get into Vero for 5 nights in August, only weekends available, so I said ok, what about some cash nights, nothing in any catergory!!!! was looking for 8/6-8/11. I was very surprised the resort was completely book even to cash rooms!!!!! kind of bummed!

We just bought our DVC last week, and part of my motivation to buy RIGHT NOW was that we were able to convert some of our dates in August to points and get a refund on the "room only" ressie that we cancelled.
At first we booked at OKW (7 nights), then changed to 3 nights AKV and 4 OKW, then changed to 5 nights SSR (the week prior to the one we had been booked for) plus 3 nights at AKV. Are you confused yet? :rotfl2:
We have been able to do a lot with SSR as far as availability, changing dates and adding one cash night at about 80 days out. AKV has been tricky, but I expected that! We're on the waitlist for one more night at AKV, but if it doesn't come through it won't be a big deal. We'll just bank the points and use them next year! I did ask if I could add that night for cash, but that wasn't available.

hh and vb are hard to get - bcv can be hard too (that pool) but if you are willing to stay at OKW or SSR - then you can do it.

I can't make up my mind if we should take a second trip this summer or not.
SSR was nice and OKW looks nice as well.

We've never had a problem getting a reservation as long as we were flexible with where we were staying. For example, I called at the end of March for an early August stay. I asked for AKV, but a 1-BR Sav view wasn't available, so I said, "What about VWL?" Right now, we have a 1-BR at VWL reserved and are on a wait-list for AKV. Either way, I'm happy! :goodvibes
I would probably try and decide soon, though, as the closer you get to your travel date, the more difficult things become. At 60 days, the unreserved rooms can be open up to the general public, so you're competing with a lot more people. Best of luck getting what you want!!! :thumbsup2

Both last year, & this year, we were able to get a week at BCV (a studio) at 7 months out for late July. No problems at all.

And I was able to book 3 nights in a VWL studio for the last week in July. The Saturday night was even available with the cash discount (much better than using points).

I would take a trip to my least favorite resort over not going anytime. No brainer for me.

If you are calling now (May) for this summer (June, July and August) then you may find availability to be spotty - which isn't to say nothing will be available, but you may need to be flexible in resorts and/or dates and/or room size - and may need to move resorts during your trip. In general though, getting August now is probably easier than getting October or December now.

So what is the cash discount on a Sat like? Why is it better than using points?

I made reservations about 6 weeks out from our vacation last summer (the week after July 4th) ... we stayed 6 nights and had no problem getting into a one bedroom at OKW for the entire stay. Actually, when I called, SSR had availability as well. The rest of the resorts just had weekend availability, if any at all.
