We just got back from a week in FL visitng my mom and dad and spent 3 days at the parks (MK, EPCOT and AK). DH and I did EPCOT alone and spent the night at POP before meeting the family at MK the next day.
DH and I were there for rope drop (which was SO cool), so we ran to City Hall to see if the spot was still open. It was! There had been a cancellation (but I had called WEEKS ago and was told you had to sign up that morning). So they put him in.
It was the best thing ever. Disney did it up wonderfully. My boys were asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance by the barbershoppers before the ceremony started. We were all escorted down Main St. and had pictures taken together. My dad was given a certificate and Veteran of hte Day pin. We were all given flag pins (adults) and flags (the kids). Disney treated us like royalty and made it very special!
I'm still too new to post pics, but I will when I can.

:thumbsup2 Oh I so hope I can get this for my Dad...I also tried to call and arrange. My Dad is a true blue American and a wonderful veteran. He uses his vacation time all year to go around to schools to teach and he does parades and such. I am so proud of him...okay, I talk about him...I start to well up...
Congrats...I know you were so proud of your entire family!:thumbsup2

Welcome to the Dis!
That is awesome that your dad got to do that. My daughter and I saw this ceremony for the first time a few months ago, and it was incredibly moving. We're now recommending that everyone see it at least one time. Just watching the veteran stand there so proudly and seeing all the uniformed people gave us a good feeling. Little kids holding the flags and singing and people stopping in the streets to show their reverance gave us chills and brought tears to our eyes. We felt this way and did not even know the veteran, so I can't imagine what it would be like to have your dad participate. My dad served in Vietnam, so I know firsthand the sacrifice of time with his family that he gave up to serve.
I'll look forward to seeing your pictures. I know it was a wonderful experience. We plan on going back to see it on the Fourth of July. That ought to be a very special ceremony.

My Dad is a Vietnam Vet...Army Helicopter Pilot...if you are ever going somewhere and see a Nam era Helicopter being pulled on a trailer behind a truck...probably my Dad. He's been to Florida a few times and been in 2 inagural parades in DC and too many to count here in NC. He along with the other members of the group go to schools and kids get to learn about the choppers and get in them. So cool for the kids plus my kids think their Pepaw is the coolest!:goodvibes

Where is City Hall? Thank you. :)
Thanks to all of the Veterans who have served and to their family members: YOU. It's amazing that you have them with you to share family memories with.

Anyway, so glad you made that happen for your dad!
