Omigosh -- What's up SN5? (I may be projecting here -- but when I get quiet & my sentences shorten up like yours did in your post, it usually means I'm sad or upset) Are you OK?

Hi--I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you all. I'm not having an emotional issue and I do like it here too.
Most of you probably don't venture to the CB too much, but there is a lot of bad stuff going on over there. There are some new policies being put into effect and one of them says, essentially, that we cannot be members of certain other boards and remain members of this board.
Since I am a member of that board and will not hide it, I suspect I will be booted from the DIS soon. I thought my time was up earlier today, but I only received points for "a dumb post" and "a personal attack" for disagreeing with the policy; I haven't been booted yet :) .
Thanks for your concern though. I do like this board. I hope I get to stay around, but time will tell.

Well in all fairness, the name of the other boards is "The Unofficial DIS troublemakers" or something similar. It basically was created just to bash the DIS and its members.
That being said, lots of people now go there who dont do that, and I personally think any bannings should be a case-by-case type thing. Of course this is a privatley owned forum, and Werner Technologies can do whatever they want with it.

WOW!
I have to say - this sounds terrable - the other site.
But it makes me want to go over just to see what they are doing.
And are they talking about any of MY Dis friends - or me.
But then again - "ignorance is bliss" I guess.

Being that I was one of the people that was targeted by the evil jerks on the other board, I have no problem whatsoever with the bannings. Certain people started threatening my job and my employer because of posts that I made on the CB. That is why you have not seen this name on the DIS over the past few months. There is something really freakin' wrong with people that have nothing more to do with their lives than to make other people miserable or afraid.
I do admit to reading that other board. I believe in the old saying, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." I do not post there. I never would. The negativity on that board is just beyond evil. I hope that I do not get into trouble for reading over there, but when your back is the one to the wall, you do what you have to do.
The whole incident has given me a hard lesson in internet security and not allowing others to know who you are, which is sad, because I am an outgoing person, who loves to talk and meet my fellow DIS'ers, well, I was, now I am very cautious as to who I meet IRL.
If you are posting over there and you actually like it over there, I can honestly say, you are not ever going to be my friend. I know that probably means nothing to you, but it's how I feel. You have laid down with the dogs and I don't want your fleas. Maggie

Lets keep it on the CB and not bring it here.
We have enough negative crap to deal with in our everyday lives outside the boards so lets keep it a fun place.:)

About a year ago there was some ugliness on the DIS and another DISer sent me the link for that other site just so I could see what they were like over there. It was appalling then, and I bet it's appalling now.
I can be snarky and sarcastic, but there is a limit. I LIKE being on a board with filters because there are some things I don't want to read.
I think it is unfortunate that some DISers were banned because they post over there, and I DO think it is JUST people who post, not the lurkers. I also strongly agree with the "being painted with the same broad brush". We tell our DS that all the time. If you associate yourself with people who behave in a certain way, then expect other people to perceive you in the same way they perceive all of the other ones in that group.
Maggie, always good to see you!
I am so proud of this board. I completely understand that there are other Disboard forums where even the mention of controversial actions can cause chaos to break out, but in reading this thread I'm reminded again that we are a smart, mature group of folk that can handle challenging topics with wit, wisdom, and humor.
Along those lines, I agree with others that it's important not to become engaged in a matter which is highly emotional in the moment.

Smartestnumberfive may or may not come back to the disboards :(
I don't want to get into too much detail, but I wanted to let everyone know that she was never really a part of the "culture" over at that other place, and she certainly never went over there to make fun of people. She actually started going over there because she saw people making homophobic comments over there, and she has gone on there at various times to *defend* people from being attacked.
That being said, she (and I  ) both feel that everyone should have the right to be members of any message boards we choose without having to worry about retaliation or the restriction of the freedom of our discourse.
Anyway, she okayed me coming on here to share that message, but really it is from me (her partner). I didn't want anyone thinking that she was a part of making fun of or attackng people. Like any place online, "that pace", as well as here on the DIS are places where the conversation can sometimes turn negative, but they can also be positive or neutral. But smartestnumberfive will always be smartestnumberfive, the kindest person I know, whatever boards she posts on.

Well the whole thing seems so unfortunate really.
And the freedom issues kinda get your dander up - as American's I think it's inherent for us to think-
"Hey, wait a minute- not cool!" when stuff like this comes up.
But the fact that there's this "alternate universe" discussing us creeps me out too.
It's vexing.
