Anyone visited Columbus Day weekend/week?

We are arriving on October 12th, the Saturday before Columbus Day. Other than last year, which would not be typical of that time period, has anyone got any particular memory of busyness of parks, etc.? Sunday is usually a bit slower, but I didn't know if it would be different due to the Monday holiday, and since we are going to spend a couple of days outside the parks that we might plan on that being one of them?? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

We were there Columbus week in '96 and as I recall, the crowds weren't bad.

Sun-Thur in 2000. VERY crowded. A few examples are at AK you could barely walk through the Oasis area and at Epcot, Test TracK wait time was over 2.5 hrs...with no FPs left. I was very disappointed after hearing how light the crowds in October are supposed to be.

We used to go in October around Columbus day every year, but started finding that October was getting more and more crowded (the entire month). Sometimes we had a hard time getting ressies with any type of discount. So we now go the last week of September every year (except this year - it will be our first December trip - can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!)
