View Full Version : Is Surf and Turf really a $58 dish?

I was wondering if some of the menu items may be overpriced simply to satisfy those on the DDP and DlxDP.
For instance, is the Surf and Turf at Narcoossee's really a 58.00 dish, or is it priced at 58.00 in order to make those on the dining plan think that they are getting a deal? Does anybody who is not on the dining plan order it?
Anybody have nay thoughts?

We've never eaten there not on the dining plan but I can tell you that it is so worth both free TS credits ;) I've had it twice and it's the meal I'm most looking forward to in September!:cloud9:

Well, I ordered this at the end of August 2007. I substituted scallops for the turf. I expected about 4 scallops, nope I received a full entree portion of 6 or 8 Big, tender, delicious scallops. Go price these entrees at your local high end seafood or steak venues. I think you will easlily find these entrees priced close to $25-30.

Well, in some of the finer dining establishments around where I live and visit, you would pay $55-$60 for quality surf and turf........SO......I would say that in a resort like the Grand Floridian you would expect to pay those prices for the foods on that menu!

Eh....I ate there 2 years ago on the DDP and got the s&T---I was not impressed at all. The filet had hardly any seasoning and was way overcooked. The lobster was one of the worst I had ever had. Very rubbery and flavorless----the best part of the dinner was the salted butter and bread, which I think is from Citrico's. That was probably the only time we will do the DDP (it was like a novelty thing---you don't stay on property when you live 5 minutes away). That being said, there is no way I would try it again with a $58.00 price tag!

This is probably my favorite meal in all of WDW. I had it over Spring Break and it was wonderful!!! Sorry a previous poster had a bad experience - I order it every time and it is always wonderful.
Sometimes I am on the DIning Plan but that time I paid out of pocket - DD14 and I both had it!!! That was an expensive meal but it was delicious and a treat since we were on vacation.

Actually, for the past two years I have not been able to get away for my bday and chose to get away to local hotels. Last year was a golf resort (played, lazed in the whirlpool and ate out). This year the weather wasn't conducive to a golf get away, so I booked a local Marriott on a AAA rate and got away for two nights. Room service, whirlpool and rest were just what I needed. I own my own business and work A LOT of hours; getting away is often hard to do (hence my 4 day WDW trips). Getting way locally is so easy, just throw some stuff in the car in in under 30 you're there. I could definitely see doing something like that at a Disney resort if I were "that close". Heck just the dining options on site would be fun, not to mention that I'd have no need to move my car during the stay.

I have to say I agree with Jezebella. We went this last April and we had six in our party. All order S&T and one order lobster tails. The steak was great but all of our Turf was rubbery and tough. I expected a melt in your mouth lobster but it wasn't so. We also loved the bread. What I wish with a 2 credit meal that they would allow an app. To me I'm not sure you get a value out of using 2 credits without enjoying the whole selection. We felt that way with Jiko's. Prices weren't that different from LeCellier but it still cost 2 credits.
Watch them make Le Celleir 2 credits. Please no!!!! On the 2 credits if they offered a app included I think you would feel like you were getting your moneys wort. By the way we had the twin lobster tails at Cap Jacks and loved it.

Hmm, seems the lobster is the make or break item - mine has always been wonderful, but I had a mushy one once at Coral Reef (when it was still on the menu) and local ones are occasionally iffy, too (that sounds like I eat a lot of lobster - I have it less than once a year, probably!!) So I suppose it's a hit or miss - but when it's done well it's a delicious entree!!!

I will have to agree totally with this. It was so worth both TS credits. Both my wife and I did this in January, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Not a lobster lover, but would love scallops instead of lobster..Someone here posted that they substituted scallops for the turf... but I would like fillet and scallops..
Do you think with the Deluxe Din.Plan they would substitute?
Many thx.

Yes, it is 58, even to those on the dining plan. Our family of 7 had one of the best meals we've ever had there. We walked out to watch the fireworks and to hear the music. I cried...I'm 28 and not even a 'disneyholic' like many on the boards. I have only been to disney twice as a adult.
It was truly spectacular-I will always remember that meal and the fireworks :)

I think I remember your pre trip angst about Narcoossee's. I told you it was magical. So glad it worked for your family!

I had the dish, paid cash and thought it was worth it.
Best meal I had during the trip :cloud9:
They timed it so meal came after fireworks shows, and we went out on the deck to watch.
At a 1st class restaurant, with fireworks show (that doesn't turn-over as many tables with people taking 20 minutes in the middle of the meal to watch the fireworks) I thought the price was fair.

I did the scallops for steak substitution last summer.
The surf and turf meal doesn't include a whole lobster, just a tail.

It was wonderful! You do have to remember that the lobster tail is NOT a Maine lobster tail, so it will taste different if that's what you are used to having.
The filets were perfectly cooked to medium rare and the lobster tail was great as well. Totally worth the price.
Aside from a lobster shack-type place, I don't know any fine restaurant that would have quality S&T for much less.
