My girls just called out of the upstairs windows to tell me. I was enjoying a soiree (just dh and me :D), basking under the patio heater!

It's very sad - somehow you just thought she'd go on forever, didn't you? I'm glad she died peacefully and didn't have to endure illness.

What a nice smile she had...

I work for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation here in Canada... sort of a sister to the BBC... we have been hard at work for while compiling material for eventual broadcast when such sad news came to be.

Just wanted to let you know that respectful and appropriate coverage of the services will be done here in Canada... at least by CBC Radio. We kind of felt like she was ours too... and will be thinking of you in the coming days...

Sending thoughts of strength to the Royal Family and all those who loved the Queen Mum...

The Queen Mother will be sorely missed by all. She had reached an amazing age but I think we all felt she would carry on forever.

May I say how heartwarming it is to get so many messages of sympathy from all of our friends here in America and Canada - thank you.

She was a very gracious lady, and I'm sure the generation to whom she was a great figurehead during the war when London was bombed, are feeling particularly sad at her passing. Her life spanned a complete century and as Cathy says, she witnessed great change and momentous events. For someone who had "Queenship" thrust upon her unexpectedly, she carried it off supremely well.

A remarkable LADY what a Friend we have lost here in Northen Ireland. The loss is even more felt by our Irish Guards. The Queen Mother was Colonel-in-Chief of the Irish Guards and every year on 17 March, St Patrick's Day, she presented soldiers with the traditonal Irish symbol, a sprig of shamrock.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

A little late but I wanted to send you my sympathies. She was a beautiful lady.

About 16 years ago, my DH and I sailed on the QEII. The Queen Mother was there to see us all off because it was the 50th anniversary of the Queen Mary. Quite an occasion. I will never forget seeing her in person. Her eyes and smile were genuine and very, very beautiful. We were in London last August during her birthday celebration. I enjoyed seein her again on the the TV (not in person) and also enjoyed seeing the public adoration given to her.

Truly a remarkable lady!
