considering booking flights with Virgin Flydrive for next year [July] unsure of how long to go for.
But what can you use your miles for , we have approx 20000 each ,

You can use for miles plus money fares, companion flights and upgrades. The latter two would probably be the cheapest options but would use a lot more miles. I think a free flight is something like 37,500 miles, so you could use a portion of your miles for each leg. One thing you cannot do is pool the miles, but, you can use different accounts for the outbound and inbound legs.

If you're set on date, I'd call the Flying Club as soon as you are able to see what they have - the companion and upgrade flights tend to not hang around too long.

Is it before schools break up or in the hols?
We go 1-25th Aug this year, wanted miles and money, looked from day they were released and nothing, there were a few available end July but nothing for our dates. We ended up booking free flight out (£101 tax) and using Orbitz.com for return flight with BMI £235 (£450 direct with BMI) total paid £336 +20,000 each. Virgin return was over £750 each. We have a 2 hour stop in Chicago on way home but saved over £1200.

Companion flights sometimes end up being really expensive as the flight you pay for has to be full price! When I looked it was £800 to go miles plus money (2,000 miles per flight) and the companion flight was £900 plus the 20,000 miles for the companion

It will be for next June 09,either the 29th or 30th, prob for 4 weeks. Saw flights on VH with5% discount for £1630 approx [take another 5% off for Flying club], but only problem is they charge £100 for connecting flights, although get a free hotel for being a frequent club member.
I got Flights this year from Dublin for £400 each return with BA going through Gatwick, and would hope to find something similar next year, will need to wait till Aug/Sep to see what prices are being offered.
Thanks for the replies

Yes sorry for the confusion £800 for the 2 plus 2,000 points per flightWe've had similar things too, I always go on the basis of asking someone at the Flying Club to look at all of the options and go from there, seems no rhyme nor reason to which option is cheaper at any given time.
