It has to be preferred or premeir pass.

Oh no!!!!! I just bought a power pass because when I was completing the reservation online it only mentioned that I would have to "show my AP" at check-in, it didn't state which type of AP needed to be shown!!!

I wouldn't worry too much. They'll let you upgrade to a Premier or Preferred pass at Guest Services. Although, you'd need to do that before checking into the hotel.
We've used an APH rate 2x and never been asked for our annual pass.
Hope this helps.

We haven't used the AP rates in awhile due to wanting our Loews upgrades. But we have been asked to show it 2x when we were actively using the APH rates.
Your chances are excellent that they won't ask to see the pass. But be forewarned that if they ask to see it and you don't have it, your rate will fall back to the current rack rate.
But the good news is - just tell them you have to run to guest services to pick up your AP. Upgrade it at guest services and bring the upgraded pass back to the front desk. You will then get your AP rate.
Do bring printouts of your confirmation of your AP rate. It is always smart to bring this with you in any case, as computer mistakes can and do happen. But in your case, if your rate gets bumped to the rack rate, you would want to show them proof that you had the AP rate previously.

Yes, the preferred AP does get you the discounts.
The only AP that does not have discounts associated with it is the Power Pass. This is the AP that has blackout dates.

Thanks Goofy!
I should have been more clear...Are there any discounts to save to lower my cost of a preferred annual pass? Once I buy the AP pass, does this give me discounts on other park tickets?

The Preferred passes are already discounted but Universal will usually do a buy a year get a year free promotion once a year. No one knows when that will be this year. The only discounts on other park tickets would be the one day tickets available at the gate. Preferred and Premier passes get a 10% discount off one day one park tickets and 15% off one day two park tickets...but that's it. You can purchase up to six guest tickets for those rates. Right now in May, the guest tickets are 50% off with the Preferred or Premier passes. Unlike Disney, you get park discounts on food and merchandise which always helps. :thumbsup2

Thanks Metro...
I knew I count on you. So those percentages off were only at the gate, correct? I tried to look online, but didn't find anything. I am just looking to save the most money for our trip in June.
Thanks again!

The AP discounts on tickets are indeed only good at the gate.
But 90% of the time, you are better off getting whatever special they are running at the time.
Right now the 7 day/2 park unlimited tickets are one of the best deals out there.
Also Metrowest mentioned, the AP discounts you get at the restaurants and the gift shops can really add up.
