This was on Consumerist this morning. Thought y'all would get a kick out of it.

The Mickey Tiki lamp (http://consumerist.com/5008274/fun-with-warning-labels-beware-the-mickey-mouse-cancer-lamp) from Disney Outlet is on sale. The web page has this little nugget, "WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm."

Not such a big deal. That warning label is appearing on a lot of items these days. California is little bit :hippie: It's not like you are going to consume the whole lamp or anything like that...(well, maybe the shade...popcorn:: )

the POTC globe lamp has the same warning. Needless to say since it would have resided in my kids' room we went against it. Not going to take the chance.;)

It is more than a little disturbing to have a home item with an ingredient described like that. If the disclaimer went on to state more information about it, I may have reconsidered.

I wouldnt be to worried over those labels. nothing has changed in any of the items, but they passed a law that they must put the label on anything that contains even a trace of the chemicals. Its in the paint im pretty sure. Its on every single mug/coffee cup at disneyland. I think its wierd, but I trust them that I wont be poisoned while drinking my coffee.;)

You know those giant snowglobes people put in their front yards around Christmas time?

THOSE have the stupid CA cancer label. I'm surprised they haven't said AIR can cause cancer since it has so much smog and crud in it there.

Seriously. The world needs to lighten up. (Are you listening, CA?)

Really? Well, I will probably go ahead and get the POTC lamp. It was really cool. But, all it said was "PWARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm." No mention of a law, trace minerals or chemicals, etc.

I just asked my roommate and she confirmed that it is in the paint, but they always put a clear glaze over the paint so its not even going to get in contact with anything.

Everyone must use those labels so they wont be sued in the off chance that someone gets cancer and decides to blame their coffee cup.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it...go ahead and get that lamp! pirate: I'd only get worried if your kid decides to use it as a pacifier...24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 30 years...then they might come close to the dosage that caused the cancer in the rats! :lmao:
