is anyone else checking this out? this would/could make for a great interface for a game of hide and seek in the parks. You can forward a pic from your phone, and it posts in realtime to a map of the parks with a message you include. Technology is fun.

I'll tell ya right now, it is easy to waste an hour checking that stuff out.

I found it cause I am kinda getting into twitter... which is a short message service that is all the rage out west with the tech community... that will no doubt take off soon with your kids.

Well I'm a computer tech and I don't know much about twitter, but given my profession, I certainly don't what to learn about it through my kids;)

I need to get on Wiki!

Disney World + Twitter + Flickr + Virtual Earth = Twisney.com

:thumbsup2

To be honest, I never really thought about a pitch. There's no business model. I just wanted to create something to send updates to my family and to learn the new Web 2.0 goodies (I'm a software engineer). Twisney took about 20 days to build so it was a good learning experience.

See you all from inside the parks this weekend. :cool1:

let's hope you have the chops that Db calls will scale well... you are about a week from being slammed from 500 hits a day to about 50,000 hits a day. and a host provider that won't beat ya up or shut down the site when you get to the bandwidth limits

First: Have a great visit! Looking forward to your Twisney posts.

Second: I assume it would be fairly easy to sell ads, either as individual posts or as markers on the map. That would probably limit you to the non-Disney hotels and restaurants, or would start taking you off-property. Maybe some service providers (taxis, food delivery, etc.). Possibly merchandise (Crocs, strollers, bags). That introduces some very interesting intellectual property law questions, since you'd be layering all of that over images of WDW. Which, once you get the lawyers involved, takes all the fun out of it. So never mind.

Third: I knew this reminded me of something. Twisney is a little bit like www.foundcity.net.

well the next step is getting folks to take a crowd pic at the entrance to the parks everyday though out the day... which will make for an instant crowd blog. so ya put in the location and the date... then for folks that wanna go back and see what the crowds are like, there is a historic photo record.

Then the advanced, would be pics of the times boards in the parks. or even as a way to play hide and seek... just txt in real time updates of your location to the twisney maps.

Then the super advanced would be with qik footage. qik.com requires a special phone with above avg internet connection, to stream video live to the internet. Talk about being your own CNN... would could post pics and stream in real time from the parks at stuff like Wide World of Sports, the opening of new attractions, the daily crowd blog, the daily hidden mickey, or when you run into folks from the boards in the parks,

There is huge potential for geeks and obsessive compulsives to have fun with this sort of technology. Or even, when breaking stuff happens like the kid with the backpack and devil issues at Planet hollywood, someone roll up on the scene, activate the live streaming... "hello and I am Allen Hunter here with Molly Quinn live on location at planet hollywood just in time for the blue plate special that is lousy and the kid that made a threat to blow up the restaurant in an effort to prevent people from having a lousy dining experience. When asked why, the kid stated the devil made him do it, because the devil hates bad service, cold appetizers, and Hollandaise sauce from a packet is not real Hollandaise sauce."

if any one wants to donate to the cause, i am game for being just that reporter.

and qik can send an update to twitter, and there is a way to pop up a chat screen on the phone while you are still streaming video, so the folks at home, would get a twitter that your intrepid reporter is live on the scene, would be able to open a website that shows the video and allows you to send comments and questions to the person holding the phone. so the folks at home could say "move closer to the fire", or "ask those kids to jump in the fountain". It just has so much potential to be so much fun.

I would be up for donating to your cause but for one thing. I am pretty sure myself and my kids would end up on your report, "Mother goes bananas as children run off one more time, was heard to say, we paid £££££ for this holiday and you are ruining it, now get happy ;) )

I'm not going to the parks anytime soon myself, but I love watching the Twisney site.

If any of you go, and you post, keep your ears open for funny guest comments and strange things seen in the parks; those are my favorite Twisney posts. It can be hilarious and highly entertaining.

I had a lot of fun using twisney.com when we were at WDW last month. My original thought was just to let the folks at home know what we were up to, but now that I'm home I also have a play-by-play record of what we did during the week. As Pete would say, "Very cool".

You can see my posts here (http://www.twisney.com/moodringtone/2008/5/20/7). (if you like what you see, you can also vote for me as twisney poster of the month for May).

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I ran a search for "qik" and this popped up. Its funny how much technology has grown in just over a year. If anyone is interested I will be doing something like this in a couple of weeks:
