Points For Rent vs. Points for Transfer

I'm totally new to this (just learned of it today). Can someone tell me the difference between Points for Rent and Points for Transfer? We're planning on a Disney vacation for 13 nights in August. I'm not DVC member. Would I be looking to Rent Points or to Transfer?:confused3

Even though we say "rent points", what you will really be renting is a reservation.

Points are of no value to non members.
