View Full Version : Wheelchair/Handicapped Accessible Room AS Family Suites

We just booked a room at the All Star Family Suites for our trip in Aug. ( free dining yeah!) The room is a Wheelchair/Handicapped Accessible Room , but I am wondering if any knows which of the 2 bathrooms is acessible or are they both? Has anyone stayed there yet and give me a feel of the place?
I know I can call and find out but I have I would like first hand info!

I did not think any of the family suites are accessable. If there is an accessable bathroom (roll in shower) I would think it would be on the side with the bedroom as there is only 1 bed in that area and a small kitchenette. But I am not sure. Sorry...

That's what I thought but I called to ask and was told yes the do have acessible suites. The agent confirmed with special reservations.

It is something new, can you call the agent and ask hime to send you info regarding the suites accessibility? Accessibility is defined differently to many who do not depend on it!

I am also thinking about booking an accessible ASMu suite for October and was wondering if there is any first hand knowledge of these rooms.

We were also told the room is "accessible" with a roll in shower. I tried to explain the need for extra room for the wheelchair to get around, but was assured there would be ample room. I also would like first hand knowledge from someone from this board.

Because of when the AS Family Suites were built, they would be required to have at least one that is accessible with a roll in shower. I don't know how many of the suites they have, but I'm guessing that only one has a roll in shower.
The amount of space that is shown on the floor plan would be adequate for a roll in shower, although they would arrange it differently to make room for the shower and for the toilet to have a 'parking spot' for a wheelchair next to it. There are standards as far as the spaces and how they have to be arranged for a roll in shower room. The standards include things like a space to park the wheelchair next to the toilet, space to turn, etc.

A roll in shower generally doesn't take any more space than a bathtub does, so they just rearrange the room to make enough space in the right places. That is how the roll in shower rooms are at other resorts - no bigger, just rearranged a bit.

We go In Aug. I will try and take pictures and do a report. I am not the wheelchair user so my take on things maybe different then a wheelchair user.
