I just booked last week. I wanted to make sure I got in under the fuel surcharge wire that they are going to tack on at the end of May. It will be my husband and myself, and we got a great rate - $793.00 for the 2 of us!(no ins or transportation included) We always get a Category 12, & hope for an upgrade. If not, we don't mind a 12, or we pay for an upgrade at the port.

We have our 2008 cruise this Sept., but I'm excited about Sept 2009 as well.

It's nice to meet you! We have a cat 12 also, I figure since it will be just the two of us we don't need the cat 10 since this is a trip without the kids. Have fun on your cruise this Sept!

We were booked on the Sept. 28 cruise that got cancelled when they changed the dry dock dates. They moved us to this cruise. It will be me, DH, our two kids and my parents.

Hi everyone,

We are now booked on this cruise too! It will be me and DH in our cabin this time. We took our first Disney cruise this past June and loved it! The June cruise was just three nights to "test the waters," no pun intended. My SIL and BIL are in the cabin beside us too. We have booked another cruise for June of 2009 too (seven night Western) and will be taking our granddaughter.

Maybe we can start a fish extender group for this cruise. We did this in June and it was lots of fun.

Thanks in great part to the Season of Disney show on Disney Cruise Lines yesterday (I kinda suckered DH into watching it) we may be joining you all on this cruise for my 40th Birthday present :woohoo: :woohoo: and our first ever cruise!! It helps that we would also be on ship for his birthday too!!

I have a friend who just went on her first Disney Cruise in June (the Double Dip 6/29) and she sent me the Navigators, some other papers and while watching the show I whipped them out for him. He in "intrigued" now :lovestruc

It would be (ages will be at the time of sailing):

Me - 40
DH - 42
DD1 - 14
DD2 - 10
DS - 7

Will keep you posted once I talk to AAA and get a price from them. I looked at the DCL site and there is nowhere to add in a AAA discount :confused3

Anyway - nice to "meet" you all

Hi Jessi...this will be me & my husbands first cruise too.....I am really looking forward to it! :goodvibes

The fish extenders - I will describe this as best I can as I have never done it but basically there is a fish outside your cabin door, where DCL can leave messages for you. Then someone came up with the idea to make Fish Extenders (pockets that hang from the fish). Some people make their own but they can be bought on Ebay - i've seen them!
Someone from your cruise thread will make a list of everyone (names, ages, room numbers etc) and then you all buy little gifts for each other to put in the extenders on various days so when you come back to your cabin you have little surprises from fellow DIS friends.

Hopefully if I have missed any information out someone will correct me, hopefully that explains it to you. :goodvibes

I would be that "wonderful fiancee" who just booked the cruise/wedding today!! After going back and forth and back and forth about what I wanted to do for our wedding and never being able to make a decision, I stumbled across Fairytale weddings and the DCL weddings and... BINGO! THAT'S IT!!! I knew right away it was what I wanted. Luckily I have an amazing fiancee who thinks the same way I do and is a Disney nut just like I am!!! we're like 2 little kids impatiently waiting for our trip!!!! :yay: :woohoo:

I was just wondering how common upgrades are and how they work. Do they try to sell you in to a bigger room at a discounted price just like the hotels? I'm trying to decide wether to just book the smaller rooms and pray for an upgrade or just give in and book the bigger room right off. We're going to be adding another little one just before the cruise so now it'll be 4 Adults, 4 Children split into 2 rooms. And if anyone has any tips I wold LOVE them. This is our 1st cruise. I saw someone say something about a AAA discount, how good of a deal is it?

Thanks for anyone who responds to this,
Jessi

Thanks for the congrats/well wishes! We haven't really gotten far with planning... it was a huge step just to make a final decision on what we wanted to do and get the cruise booked! I kept going back and forth and back and forth with what I wanted... stumbled across info on the cruise DFTW and there was no question about it! That was IT!! Luckily my fiance' is as big of a kid as I am... :thumbsup2

Next step is to get a dress, which I won't do until I lose this weight - 25-30 pounds. So it's kind of a motivator knowing I can't even SHOP for a dress until then! We won't be having any guests, so not a lot of real planning necessary... we are SUPER excited!!!

yeah, hopefully as it gets closer, we'll get a little more action going in this thread... and I'm all for starting a FE group... sounds like fun!!

I'm in! I just booked last week--our first cruise (well, DH went on one with his family when he was in college I think). A Disney cruise is the only kind that holds much appeal for me. It'll be me, DH, our three boys (they'll be 8, 6, and 3), and maybe/probably my mother in law. We have two connecting category 10 rooms.

So we only have 7months and 11 days until the party begins :cool1:

I'm sure this "cruise" will be better than the last one i took 14 years ago(US Navy)..I was gone for 6 1/2 months and we got to go to the Persian Gulf in the middle of summer. It was freaking hot there. But it was a dry heat ;) :)

Well, sorrow has now set in, along with extreme excitment...

Occupants of cabing #2 (my daughter and son-in-law) have now informed us a new baby is coming on SEPTEMBER 17th! So, they have cancelled their cruise. We certainly do not want to miss the big day, so we cancelled our cruise, then the entire family cruise started unravelling at the seams. As it stands now, only occupants of cabin #5 are still going. So, while we are disappointed about this cruise, we get a new grandchild and when my husband found out the date, he insisted we schedule another one for June of this year. I will move to that thread now.

Good luck to everyone and have a great time!

Welcome! You are like me...its all about the food. Well, if you are cruising for the food, you have to eat at Palo. Its the best meal you get on the ship. The buffets were ok. I'd say the food on DCL is decent. I just did my first cruise with DH and DS in May, so I really don't have anything to compare it to but would love to hear how it compares to Carnival and RCCL.

Good Morning everyone. I thought I'd help plan the FEs. For those of you who are interested in participating in the FEs, please PM me with your family names and those traveling with you that will participate in the FEs, their ages (especially for children), any special events you might be celebrating on the cruise and your stateroom#. I'll get a list going and send it out.

This should be lots of fun. I participated in one our last cruise and it was lots of fun. Thanks.

Well HEYYYYY Cruise mate, I tell you I am sooooo worried about the food, and I would eat at Palo a couple of times, but I don’t want to leave my little prince out, so I will try to eat at Palo's at least one night, Well for Carnival the food was ok, not the best but no complaints, now RCCL the food was FANTASTIC, and if you didn’t like anything on the menu which I always found something, every night they have I think it is called the Ship Shape menu which had Baked Chicken, Steak, and a Fish but I never once had to order off the menu, and I ate Lunch every day in the dining room at it was also great!, I know that many people say that they don’t cruise for just food, and that’s fine but for me it is at the top of my list as well as my life I am a Caterer so food is my life, and if the food is not to Par I am going to get in that Kitchen myself and throw down LOL

Thanks.

Well how sweet of you :flower3:, that would be great! If you don’t mind w could you give us a little info on all this FE, for some of us that know in its entirety

Hello! Here's the thread on FEs. It's lots of fun.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

We did it on our first cruise and we gave out lots of goodies and got lots of goodies. DS made out like a bandit! It was nice to come back to the room and see all the surprises there from other DISers.

Queen Kimberly & Prince Evan

Have just booked a 4 day cruise on Disney’s Wonder this past Sunday, we will also be doing the 3 day Wonder Sept 10th after that we are heading to WDW for the next week then back on the boat on Sept 20th, then I am off at the end of the month to cruise with RCCL with my mother I will need a vacation after a vacation LOL:rotfl:, this will be my first Disney Cruise, I have cruised with Carnival and RCCL, so I am looking forward to this one, I hope it lives up to all the hype, I am concerned about the food issues and the quality:scared1:, I am one that does cruise for the food, so we will see, My son is subjecting me to watching the DCL CD 3 to 4 times a day, I am asking myself why did I order this CD, and boy is he watching it all the way to the very end, and then it starts all over again, I didnt even know that he knew how to work the VCR DVD so well, I think I am going to hide that DVD LOL:laughing:!!! Well I look forward to the conversations that we will have on this board! Happy Sailings

Welcome aboard!!! :cool1::banana::yay:

We just had our first cruise this May. It was WONDERful and that's why we are going again in Sept. :cool1: :cool1: If nobody minds, I'm happy to organize the FEs. I was in one for the first cruise and its pretty easy to organize for a small group. I'll send out a note later today.

What excursions are you doing?

Did you say you are a caterer?? :thumbsup2 Oh boy! You are my new best friend. :rotfl: The nice thing about Disney (I'm sure other cruises too but since my first cruise is with Disney a few weeks ago...) if you don't like what you ordered or want more than one entree, they bring it to you. One night I couldn't make up my mind between a fish dish and a tenderloin, I ended up ordering the tenderloin but Marco, our server brought me the fish dish as well, "Just to try", he said encouragingly. 3 desserts almost every night  I have to say by the end of the cruise, my clothes were getting a liiiiittle tight.

Can't wait to talk food with you!

I wanted to add one other thing. Because the 4 night cruise goes by pretty quickly and there's so much to do, I'm going to suggest we deliver FEs only once or twice at your leisure through the cruise. We can decide 1x or 2x when we have a better idea of how many of us are participating.

Hello! It's been quite on this site the last few days and just wanted to drop a note to say hi and see how everyone's trip planning is going? We got our trip insurance, booked our flights, hotels and rent car. So we're moving right along. Only 3 months and 11 days to go before we leave for Orlando. :woohoo: :woohoo:

Hope everyone is well. Have a great weekend.

Hi, I am having a quiet weekend just me & the dogs as my hubby is away until Tuesday. I have had fun though as the September hours have just come out so I have been planning our trip as we are at Old Key West for 13 nights with free dining before the cruise then 4 nights at the Poly after. :cool1:

Hope you are all having a great weekend. :goodvibes

We always wonder how full the boat will be? And many people already know their stateroom? We always book cat 12GTY staterooms, so we won’t know our staterooms until September.

I know it’s too early, but it’s exciting to logon and see when DCL post our room assignments. The kids keep asking, "what's our room #'s?"

Kinda adds to the whole trip thing...

Its lots of fun! It's a little roa trip for us to go to SeaWorld San Antonio, so we get the fun pass and try to get out there 3-4 times a year. We haven't made it out there this year and am thinking of going there at the end of June. DS has been asking to see Shamu and the sea lions. Yesterday he woke up from his nap and told his teacher at daycare that he had dreams about penguins and sea lions. Its definitely time for the road trip.:lmao:

Hey there. We're going on the 18th. You will love the MNSSHP. We went last year and when I saw that it was only a few nights before our cruise in September, I changed our plans to come in early so we can make the party. The Boo to You Parade and Hallowishes is not to be missed.

Not sure about dressing up yet. Only DS and my sister dressed up last year. This year, we have costumes for DS but probably will decide last minute for us. We went in early October last year and it was really, really hot, so whatever costume you decide, you may want to pick something that will keep you cool.

Jack (7) his birthday is a week before the cruise too

I think we can still celebrate their birthdays and our anniversary. (16 years :scared1:)

Hello, everyone. I posted way back on page 1 (post #4). I don't think I've posted since. I don't really post much on the DIS anymore.

Last month, we had a real tragedy in our family. My dad, who was joining us on this cruise, passed away suddenly the day after Mother's Day.

We've had this cruise planned for two years. We were taking my parents on their first Disney cruise to thank them for everything they've done for us (too much to list here). So, I faxed a request to get the Walt Suite before the 2009 dates even came out. (Normally, I'm way too...um...frugal to book such an expensive trip, but--as I said--we really wanted to treat my parents.) When I found out we got the suite, I decided to surprise them once we boarded the ship. Yeah, that lasted about two days. I was just too excited to keep it to myself. My mom and dad were ecstatic, telling everyone who would stay still long enough all about the suite.

Anyway, fast forward to last month. My dad had prostate cancer surgery and was given a clean bill of health. Cancer free. A couple days after being released from the hospital, he started having trouble breathing. Turns out he had multiple blood clots in his lungs. We lost my dad about an hour later. It all happened so fast.

At first we decided not to go, but we know that my dad wouldn't have wanted us to cancel. So, we're still sailing, and we've added another passenger. We've invited my older cousin to join us. She has really been there for my mom since my dad died, and she's always wanted to go on a Disney cruise, so it was an easy decision.

To those of you who've stuck with this way-too-long post, thanks for "listening."

Thank you. Father's Day was rough at times. We focused on my DH and shared our good memories. Lots of laughter, lots of tears.

My dad watched DS and DD while I worked, took them to school, etc., so it's been tough on them. Now that school's out, the kids really miss him being here with them during the day.

I think the cruise will be a nice escape from the sadness. And I really do feel, like you said, that my dad will be with us.

Hey everyone! Just booked Palo dinner and brunch. Last cruise we didn't get into the brunch. So, now I just have to work on getting DS potty trained so he can go into the club. He didn't like Flounder's last time. There wasn't enough to keep him occupied, so he kept crying for us. Needless to say, getting paged at dinner made it less enjoyable since we were worried about him and rushed through dinner to get him.

Really looking forward to brunch since I heard its fabulous. And dinner was definitely the best meal we had on board.

Thanks for the encouraging words about my dad. :flower3:

Paid the balance of our cruise a few days ago, just received the kids' passports today. After two years of planning, I can't believe it's finally almost here!

We have booked Palo brunch & dinnder too. I booked at 105 days out as I added the romance package to our booking. We also have a spa treatment booked. I can't wait - I am getting soo excited!

I was wondering if we need to put a close date on the FE sign ups? It crossed my mind the other day as we will need some time to shop for &/or make the gifts. I leave the UK on the 6th Sept so would like to have everything prepared a week or two beforehand including the list of cabin numbers etc. What are your thoughts guys?

It is going to come around so quickly now. I have just sent mine & dh's passports off to be renewed....can't believe how fast those 10 years went! :lmao:

How much do passports cost you guys? Over here an adult 10 year passport is £72 / $ 120!

It was $85 for a child passport. I got mine 6 years ago. I can't remember what I paid for it. Somewhere around that amount, I think.

Hey everyone. Happy Saturday. I apologize for the long note, but want to include as much info as I can now for you.

So far we have 5 families participating in the FEs. Let's set August 31st as the deadline for people to join in the FEs. This will give us about 3 weeks to get the FE gifts ready, especially for those who will be arriving early to enjoy the parks or Orlando prior to the cruise.

For current participants, if you haven't sent me your stateroom numbers, please PM them to me before August 31st.

For new participants, if you are interested in being part of the FEs, please PM me the names in your family, ages of your children, any special day you might be celebrating on the cruise and your stateroom# by August 31st.

If you do not have your stateroom numbers by then, no problem, just send them to me when you have it.

I'll PM a final list of participants with all the pertinent information on Wednesday, September 2nd. If there are any changes after that especially stateroom numbers, I'll update the list and make it available for our meet. Some of you may get upgrades at the port, so we can update the list once we are at the meet as well.

FE Deliveries:
Since its a short 4 night cruise and there's so much to do, let's keep deliveries to 2x over the cruise if we have 6 families of less. If we have more than 6 families, let's do only 1 delivery. You may deliver the goodies anytime that works for you on the cruise.

FE List:

mitadoh - Tim, Andrea, Shirley MIL, Frank FIL & Elizabeth(3) - Tim & Andrea: 5 yr anniversary
Pinky166 - Claire, Lee
LC30 - Linda, Jonathan, & Jackson (3) - Linda celebrating early birthdayOurOhana - Kelli, Bryan, Pauline & Malia (4)
Mbrwr - Marina, Eric, Gabriella (8) & Nathan (5) - Marina celebrating graduation from nursing school
dis ms. - Ivy, Darren, Pat, Linn, Reed (9) & Regan (7)
cara620 - Cara, Ray, Will(10), Brooke (8) & Hope (2) - celebrating 15th anniversary on 9/24
cgbsilver@hotmail.co - Christian, Aimee, Maria (11), Christina (7) & Paulina (2) - celebrating Aimee's birthday on 9/16
momcicle - Mitzi, Candace, Heather

Meeting Place: Promenade Lounge 3 p.m.
I've read that a good meeting place is the Promenade Lounge. So let's meet there at 3 p.m. on embarkation day. We can make this meeting for all DISers on this cruise as well as all the FE participants, if everyone wants to meet.

Does this work for everyone? If I left anything off or if you have questions, comments. Please post them. Looking forward to surprising you all with goodies on the cruise. Its going to be lots of fun.

Hello everyone. Just checking in. Its been really quiet on the board the last several days.

Let me know if you would like to change anything on the Fish Extenders. Happy to get suggestions or make any changes. I'm on mandatory vacation from work this week, so we're off to SeaWorld today with some friends . DS is excited about seeing the sea lions and of course Shamu.

Hope everyone is well.

Hi Linda. I think the the FE details you posted sound fab, thanks for organising.

Hope you have a great time at Seaworld, I would love to see some pics. :)

I have been so busy this past week. It was my husbands birthday on Saturday so we spent time with familly, went up to London to the theatre & out for a meal, then we went to the cinema on Sunday so it was a very busy but fab weekend.

We are also having a bit of a heat wave here in England (34 degrees today!) which is pretty rare, it is due to last a week I was hoping to make the most of it but have been ill the past few days.

Hey there. Just started a new job on Monday in the same company, so have been busy trying to learn the new business. Anyhoo, the cook out was lots of fun - but HOT! Good thing we were able to go to a pool to cool off later that afternoon. And we saw some great fireworks too!

I'm on Facebook. You can look me up there. As for Twitter, I'm not on there, I'm just not that interesting to have people follow what I am doing  I would lose followers instead of gain. :rotfl2:

Fahernand, I was just looking at my countdown banner and it says 2 months and 9 days till we leave for our trip! I'm grateful the next 2 months are going to be busy for me, so I won't be counting the minutes, although I'm sure I will be the week before we leave.

Hello! I just added you on Facebook. I started buying some FEs already but have to get more next month. It entirely up to you if you want to wrap the gifts and put a tag on it. Whatever is easiest and most enjoyable for you. Last time, I pre-packages the gifts in little ziplock bags for the items that fit and other items I just left loose. And I put a label on them so I know which family and which rooms they were. And when we got on the ship, some people had their rooms changed, so I just handwrote the new room numbers in for easy delivery. I haven't decided what I'm going to do this time yet. But I know I'll definitely pre-package them with family/individual names and room numbers at the very least.

I can't believe you will be leaving in 7.5 weeks. It's going to come up fast.

Thanks Pinky. We did our first DCL cruise in January. It was a 7-night and we loved it. Our first cruise this time is our $99 bounceback, but we really wanted a longer trip again. We love cruising (did Holland America twice before) I'm sure you all will love it. It's so much fun, and relaxing.

I'm actually at work at the moment and using my iPhone to type this so please forgive my creative spelling ;)

When we booked our January cruise the deal was we could take another cruise later in the year. It had to be a 3 night cruise but only cost $99 a person. We are going for under $400 for three of us for the 3-night cruise. We added my mom for about $130. We had to go during their slower time. I can't remember the exact dates. It was a nice deal. We booked it last december an it's apparently pretty rare. But maybe they'll offer it again because of the slow economy.

Hope that makes sense.

MNSSHP is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom. They do this party every year between September and October. Its a wonderful Halloween party. We went for the first time last year and just loved it.

The party goes from 7 p.m. to midnight with special Halloween parades and fireworks. There's lots of tricky or treating throughout the parks and all the characters are out that night and are in special Halloween costumes that you won't see other times during the year. You have to get special tickets for the event and is a separate ticket from the park ticket. So if you have a ticket for the park for the day, you can stay till 7 p.m. If you want to stay for the party you have to buy a ticket for the event. Or if you just buy tickets for the park, you can get in at 4 p.m and be there till close but the party doesn't officially start until 7 p.m. If you haven't done, you should try. Lots of fun.

Hey there. I've just added you to the list. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1817727&page=5 on thread #68.

I know its hard to keep up with all the threads on this. We only have 7 families, so we'll do 1x delivery for each family over the cruise. So you'll have 6 families to deliver FEs to. You can choose to give a family gift or do individual gifts, whichever you are most comfortable with doing. I'm doing a smorgasborg of stuff. Usually, I do a family gift and then do some small things for the kids. I've also included the FE thread for you, as it has out meeting place as well.

Long story short for those of you on the thread, I had a deer in my backyard yesterday, which is not unusual but the fact that she climbed up 5 flights of stairs and decided to charge my back door was a little out of the norm and a bit alarming. All is well now, no broken door and the deer is safely out of my backyard and probably in someone else's yard by now. Yesterday evening, I saw her trying to get in the neighbor's yard. :rolleyes1

The excitement never ends...

Sorry I've been away for a while - hectic at work.

Greetings to all of our other cruisers. I can't believe it's so close.

By the way, we were in 8014 on the last cruise - great spot - pretty quiet location.

I have to say - I think you handled this very well. I freak out when I see a spider. I can't imagine what I'd do when I see a deer charging at my door. All that said, I did get a good laugh when I read your story. Too funny!

I am happy to report no deer in the backyard today. Saw 3 of them just cruising the neighborhood a few doors down and my back gate is locked:goodvibes.

I'm picking up my nephew who will be staying with us for the weekend, the big birthday party, some pool time and definitely some relaxation. Next weekend is DS's best friend's birthday party, so I'll be helping with that. Then, its time for some serious planning for the cruise :woohoo:

We have yet to see the new Harry Potter. Love the books and the movies. I heard this one is really good. I'm glad you are having so much fun with the FEs. I need to go through my inventory soon, so I know what else I need to pick up.

Hi there - We're so excited too. So much right before we go with work and our daughter starting a new school, but the fun and relaxation of the cruise is just a short time away.

We're still looking at f/e gift ideas - we've been to the dollar store, disney store, disney outlet and looked online. Lot of looking, not a lot of buying yet. To get ideas, I read a lot of threads where people gave ideas of gifts from previous cruises. Maybe visiting those will help you too.

Hopefully everyone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is in general the f/e gifts can be homemade or store bought, or a mix of both. They don't have to cost a lot of money. I've read about people who gave candy, water bottles, magnets, little trinkets, disney or pirate-related items, including tatoos, stickers, pens, pencils, etc. I don't know if that helps, and again, hopefully others will pop on and help out a bit more with ideas.

Hey everyone. Haven't been on in a few days. Just started a new job a few weeks ago and its kept me pretty busy along with other activities. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back to planning for this trip again.

On the last cruise, we got and gave a range of FE gifts - candy, homemade door hangers, magnets, lots of $1 toys, pirate accessories - eye patch etc, CD. It was great. Target dollar aisles, Dollar store, Michaels and the like have some great finds. Or you can do more. Happy hunting.

Welcome!:welcome: We're glad you could join us! It should be lots of fun. I'll add you guys to the FE list on the FE thread this weekend. Work has been crazy busy, so I've been putting in long hours.

As for FEs, I'm not so crafty, so I ended up buying one on ebay. There is a wonderful lady who sells them. I bought mine for $20 or $25...can't remember but she customized it for us. I think on ebay they show ones with 4 pockets for $30. I got one with 2 pockets and it was a little cheaper. They turned out great. Happy hunting.

Hope to get to know you better on the site.

Cara - Welcome to the meet and the disboards. I think you'll love exploring the board. As the cruise gets closer, I'm getting more and more addicted to the board. They're so helpful. And I'm again very jealous about the AK trip. What fun!

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts about RCCL compared to DCL. We'd love to try an RCCL. We've done Holland as a couple, and really liked it. But we think RCCL would be our second choice now that we have a child.

We've decided to send material off to my hubby's aunt in Hawaii to make us a fishextender (I'm just completely out of my element with needle, thread or even an iron - sad, but true. My mother is especailly not happy about the no ironing.)

Wow, what a great, rewarding job. I'm a newspaper writer, and one the best stories I've ever read (not from my anyone I knew or worked with) was one about nurses who worked in a IC unit for infants, at least that's my memory. If I can find it, I'll send it to you. It was incredibly moving.

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you join us! This should be a fun group.

All, I might need a little advance specially from those of you with young kids. We are in a dilemma and are not sure if we should cancel our trip. We had booked this trip back in June before we made any major decisions about m DS' school. He's currently in a school that is wonderful for young children. But he's getting to the age now (he just turned 3) where he needs more than just advanced daycare and babysitting. So, about 3 weeks ago, we enrolled him a new school that is French and Spanish immersion, which means no English is spoken at all. This is all great except the school starts at the end of August and we leave on vacation 3 weeks after he starts this school. We're worried about pulling him out for a week so close to the start of school. He's been talking about the cruise a lot. We got trip insurance which will cover 75% of the trip cost.

We REALLY want to do this trip but are really concerned about his adjustment for the first few weeks and then pulling him out for a week and then, readjustment back in. Anyone have any experience with this? Any advice is appreciated.

Hey there. Thanks for asking. Job is going well! I'm learning a lot and have been putting in lots of hours because of a very big project that is going on. I jumped in right in the middle of the project but I'm enjoying it. The nice thing is there's more flexibility for me which is great with DS. I have more time to spend with him in the morning and I get home at a decent hour on most days. I make up the time late night and early morning which is fine because I can deal with Europe and Asia those times.

It's funny you mention this. I've given a lot of thought to this lately too. Our daughter is starting a new private school next week. We live in Florida, where they have voluntary pre-K. The state picks up the tab, but it's not mandatory for kids to go. That being said, obviously an extra year of formal schooling has proven great for kids here so far (based on testing.) All of that being said, we're still going on the cruise. I figure we'll rarely want to pull her out of school as she's getting older (at least not for a week or more) but right now, she's still so young - no better time. (The rates were cheaper for us in September than earlier, especially since we're taking advantage of the bounceback offer.)

Obviously, everyone has their own opinion on this - and you should follow your instinct. You won't make a wrong decision, regardless of what you choose to do. I have a feeling if you end up going on the cruise, you'll find your son will adjust fine to his new school when he returns. (By the way - what a great school, you've described. It sounds like it'll be a great opportunity for him.) If you stay home, you won't regret that choice either. You could always get on another cruise when he's off school.

I too would be interest in hearing what others have done in similar situations.

I really hope you guys are able to come. I don't have children so its difficult to say what I would do.

LC30,

I would not worry too much about going on the cruise a few weeks into a new school. As long as you are aware (which you are) that there may be some readjustment when you come home I am sure you and DS will readjust. Especially if he is excited about going on the cruise..I would not want him starting school to have any negative impact from his point of view...ie "now we can't go on our fun cruise because of starting my new school"..not the thought you want to put in his little head.

It is actually good that this issue is coming up now. Now that DS has started school you will be dealing with the question of when to vacation for a very long time. Might as well figure out what works and dosn't for your family now.

That's a really good point Cara. ::yes::

If he is really excited about the cruise then it may have a negative impact if you cancel due to him starting school.

Good luck with your decision Linda.

My kids will start school on the 19th of August. Gabriella is on 3rd grade but Nathan is just starting Kindergarten. I'm not worried at all about him having to adapt again after being away for 10 days for this trip. I think that kids have an easier time then us with this changes, at least mine do. I just know that for us it won't be a problem at all.
I also agree with the others when they said that your son may have negative feelings towards the school if he feels that it was the reason that he couldn't go on the cruise.
But you know your child best and I'm sure you'll make the right decision!
Hope you can join us!!!

Just wanted to let you know what our daughter's new teacher said about trips - she just volunteered this, no one asked during our open house. She said she understands that families take vacation, and she had no problem with them. She simply suggested that three or four long vacations in a year wouldn't be advisable (in our state, preK providers aren't paid by the state unless children show up at least 80 percent of the time for the classes. So I know that was part of her concern.) Anyway, I now feel better about our planned trip. She just kept reminding us that they're still just in preschool, and things would get bit more serious in a year or so. Not sure if that helps you at all. You may want to talk to your child's school, if you have concerns. They may put your mind at ease.

A gty is a guaranteed room in the Category you pay for. They assign you a room and deck about 30 days out from your sail date. Sometimes, with a gty room you receive a complimentary upgrade from the category you paid for. For many of us, we book a Cat. 12, since it is the least expensive, but also it has the least number of rooms, so an upgrade is a possibility.

Sounds like a great plan. We haven't done either of those. We would really wanted to do the stingray encounter but DS is still a little too young, so we can't do the encounter at Castaway Cay. I have heard that the Dolphin Encounter at Blue Lagoon in Nassau is really great. We tried to do this last cruise but were told it might be better to wait till DS is a little older.

We also booked the parasailing at Castaway Cay on our Sept. 17. Hubby is quite excited. I'm still nervous, but I think I'll like it. We tried to do this on our last cruise, but it was canceled because of windy weather.

We were hoping to do some snorkeling as well, but weren't planning to get the equipment until we got there, just in case we found we didn't have enough time.

For now, we have nothing booked for Nassau. We've looked some, but we're thinking we may spend more time on board when we're at this port.

We are going over to Atlantis, we are just going to get a taxi rather than one of the excursions as we don't want a tour. I can't wait to go back there!!!! We got married there 8 years ago & plan to spend the day walking around & taking lots & lots of photos as we never had a digital camera back then. Also want to get some lunch in the restaurant where we had our wedding meal.

Have also booked Palo dinner & brunch & a spa treatment! :cool1:

Based on the threads and our experience on the Magic, you'll definitely not be alone. I saw many people with costumes, though many without. We didn't wear them, and didn't feel uncomfortable at all. And we loved seeing what others were wearing.

Linda (lc30) has the list, she has been tracking it when people have signed up. I think the cut off date is sometime in the next week or so. Then no new people will be able to sign up after that, it should then allow everyone enough time to finish buying etc.

I think there is a list further back on this thread but not sure if that is fully up to date.

were all excited. Friday, we looked on the website and they had changed us back to GTY. I talked to a CM and they said they were just shuffling rooms around, and it would probably be there Monday. Well, Monday, Tuesday, and now Wednesday and no stateroom. Has this happened to anyone else?

Never done GTY, so don't know how that works. But good luck. Pixiedust for you:wizard:

Hi I'm new to the DISboards and was reading through all the posts of others cruising on the 9/20 cruise. I'm sailing with a group of 40 - surprising my MIL for her 80th birthday! I would LOVE to make some door magnets for everyone but can't figure out how to add the Disney font to Photobucket. I have such a big group (14 rooms) so I really didn't want to impose and ask someone else. Any suggestions?

Because of the group size I won't be joining the fish extender group but would love to meet those of you on this board that have been keeping in touch for the past several months (Pinky166, LC30, OurOhana,Mbrwr, etc.)

I'd appreciate any help regarding the magnets - time is running out!!

Hey there. Welcome!:welcome: We would love to meet you. Promenade Lounge at 3 p.m. For fonts...the easiest way for me to get the fonts were to go to google search and search "disney fonts". Here's an example of what I downloaded.... http://www.dafont.com/walt-disney.font I found 3-4 different ones that I liked using Google search.

Good luck. We look forward to getting to know you better!

Hey everyone. Thank you! We're really glad it all worked out too. DS will miss photo day and we'll miss the parent/staff social but its all worth it for a little trip on the Mickey Boat.

I'm making welcome magnets for each family as part of the FE gifts. I'd like to ask if you don't mind PMing me your family name or what name you want to put on the magnet. If you don't mind posting it here, that fine too but wanted to give you the option.

We're The Brewers OR The Bru Cru :) And I will LOVE the magnet!!! I can say now that I'm a magnet fanatic... :)

Oh...if you PM me your email address, I'll send you my magnet files. I cheated on them and use powerpoint but it works well enough to create a few magnets. But there's lots of other really helpful people on the site that can help with magnets that do great work. There's lots of thread on it, check out the FAQ site on the page and look for the Door Magnet/Door Signs link.
