I have seen reports that all restaurants are jam packed during free dining which makes sense.
I just found myself wondering if the counter service places are long long line ups as well.
I have my ADR's for free dining. But I hadn't given much thought to counter service thinking we would wander over to whatever looked appealing. But if the waits are going to be long maybe I should do some planning around where I want to be and at what time of day?:confused3
Any thoughts?:)

I would plan to visit counter service restaurants at off-times, or be prepared for long lines during free dining.

Counter service lines are ALWAYS long. I would think free dining is irrelevant in this matter. The nice thing is the counter service lines "usually" move relatively quickly.

I agree, and this is a slower time of year and don't forget everybody on the DDP has at least 1 TS per day and this puts may at the table service restaurant for one meal a day where if not on the DDP they may have done 2 counter service. So the 2 years we were at free dining the lines were not to bad I didn't think at the counter service restaurants. Also we are usually hungry about 11-11:30 and went early to lunch so that may have been a slower time.

The lines are pretty long for CS. I've noticed that only about 1/2 - 2/3 of the registers were usually open even during the lunch hours at most CS restaurants during September. I'm assuming after the summer months alot of their seasonal help leaves.

I didn't think the lines at CS were bad. The worst we waited was Flame Tree BBQ, which was about 20 minutes, and that was at 12:30 in the afternoon. Others we tried (Cosmic Rays, Pinocchio Haus, Sunshine Seasons) were all about 5-10 minutes. Don't remember even seeing any excessive looking lines. (We wouldn't have waited if we did.)

Last year some places like Pacos Bills and Captain Cooks had self order computers. You put in you DDP card touched items you wanted to select and a slip was printed out. Then went up to the counter to pick up your order. This worked real good for us I wonder if they still have the computers or were only testing them out?:confused3
