It took me forever to find this thread! OK, fess up, how many of you have fallen off the wagon? I know I have! Starting tomorrow I'm stepping on those scales to get my starting point and if I make it through the holidays, I'll be ready for the New Year!

Oh you just HAD to do that, didn't you! Couldn't leave this thread well enough alone, could you? :lmao: I fell off the wagon so long ago that I can't even see the darn wagon anymore! I went to the doc today......I'm in denial of what the scale said.

Yes....I need help. I'm guessing the cookies I just ate aren't the help I need.:rolleyes1

I am now at 123 and my highest weight ever was roughly 175, but when I started my diet at the end of June I was 166.

I am finding it hard to get motivated to work out when its no longer swim suit season! How can you all diet during the Holidays? Whats the plan of attack here :rotfl:

Wait there was a wagon? I guess I not only fell off it, but missed it entirely. I have to admit, now that vacation is over I have been thinking about it again. One of the girls at work is going to start and it is always easier when someone does it with you. I may not be one the wagon, but I think I will at least put my skates on

I'm having a wisdom tooth extracted on Monday, maybe I'll lose some too (in addition to the weight of my tooth that is :lmao: ) The last time I had a wisdom tooth removed I developed a dry socket...didn't eat for a week! Welcome to everyone!!!! Congrats to John! Please please keep us informed every step of the way so we can go through this with you!

So far so good! Do we have an official weigh in day? Is Friday still the day to report our progress??

Tent Camping Mom
01-09-2009, 11:34 AM
I assumed weigh-in is Friday so I braced myself for an initial shock as I stepped on the scales this morning...didn't realize it would send me into a coma :scared1: Hopped off and sat down and started planning. I need, really need to lose 20 pounds before mid-March. Is that unrealistic?

Calories will be no more than 1600 a day (logging into Sparkpeople), keeping fiber high, sodium low, and a 30/50/20 ratio of protein/carbs/fat.

Exercise will be no less than 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Exercise may consist of any or all: Biking, walking, treadmill, and weightlifting. If walking or treadmill, I must do at least 60 minutes at one time.

My main problem is going to be getting up and moving. It helped alot way back when I would track my minutes using a monthly goal. So I think I'll try that again. This month's goal will be 1000 minutes.

Anyone else?

About 20 people from our neighborhood started in a Johns Creek Biggest Loser contest today. A certified trainer took our weight and measurements today and we go each Sunday to weigh in. You can call in your weight if your not able to come but you have to come obviously to the last weigh in which is the most important anyway. She gave us some tips and said one of the worse things you can eat trying to lose this weight is the diet meals in a box. She said the preservatives alone will retain things you don't want. I've got about 30 pounds to lose and not really into winning it but it sure gives a reason to at least try and have some will power. It cost $20 to join and if you gain any weight you pay $2 per pound so I guess that's really a reason to stick to it. Thank God I'm not on the dining plan when we go to Disney this weekend.

I don't know why I thought Monday was weigh-in day, but that's what I did. I got on the scale this morning and I lost 2 lbs. It's not a lot, but it's a good start! Just think, if I could lose 2 lbs a week for six months, that's almost 50 lbs! Two lbs a week for a year is 104 lbs!! :woohoo: Ok, I'm getting ahead of myself here, but you know what I'm getting at. I think I've been looking too far ahead all the other times I've tried this. Maybe just looking at smaller goals is the way to go. Like 25 lbs at a time. Anyway, I'm off to a good start. :goodvibes

Arg! The only thing I keep losing is this thread!

I haven't lost an ounce but on the brighter side, I haven't gained either. I need to exercise and I have eaten out and overeaten a few times since I started back (at Biergarten I had enough to last me two days...oh and their Ultima Oktoberfest beer was awesome!)

Plan B: Baseball season is starting for DS so I will be able to exercise then and starting Monday we (DH, DS, and I) are planning on hitting the fitness center after work on the days when there's no baseball practice.

Holy crap!!! I nver thought about this till I watched this video...and Im a little embarrassd to admit this...but I mentioned trading in a van yesterday on another thread, well....before I turned it in I had to clean it out of any personal junk that we needed out of it...and I found half a Mcdonalds burger all the way in the back of the van (damn disgusting kids!!) I dont know how old it actually was, but the van usually just sat in my driveway except for family trips and we hadnt used it for at least six months before I traded it.....and god knows how long it had been there before THAT 6 month stretch. My point is...other than being hard as a brick (like the one in the video) it didnt LOOK like it had begun to rot at all, and although I have no senese of smell...I showed it to the wife while I was complaining about how careless our kids are...and she most certainly would have screamed at me for bringing in a stinky rotting hamburger in and putting it in her face...so it apparently didnt smell like rotten beef either!!!

Really makes you think, doesnt it?:scared:

GOBA Mom Lynn
01-28-2009, 06:46 PM
Well, that was interesting!

The only trouble I have with her whole thing is that she was comparing a McD fry with a "fry" from a raw potato. At least I don't think she said anything about cooking it, she just said she cut up a potato. Anyway, if you're going to compare things, make them equal. Maybe a fresh-fried potato would look that good in 3 yrs, too. Maybe not. Same with the hamburger.

I'm not an employee of McDonald's or anything, just trying to see the other side. Besides I try not to eat at any kind of fast food place more than maybe twice a month. I do like Big Macs though.

If you really want to get grossed out, and never eat fast food again, read the book "Fast Food Nation". I forget who wrote it, but it came out about 5 years ago. It's about the beef, chicken and potato industries and how McDonald's basically owns them all.

All this talk has me thinking "DIET!!!!" again. Only 20+ days till I have to get into a swimsuit-- in public.:faint: On the plus side, it will be in a newly refurbished pool at FW!

Did you go back to the gym since getting back from WDW? You said you were going to.

Rick & I are back to bike riding. When I was at the Dr on Wednesday, I asked him just how bad Rick's arthritis was in his knees. He said it really was pretty bad - and would probably be looking at partial or full replacements in the next 4-5 years. Shame on me for thinking Rick's a wussy. man, i just got my bum kicked by jillian michaels. lol i bought one of her dvds and omg, i am afraid to know what i will be like getting out of bed tomorrow morning. i think i will have to get up about a half hour earlier just to get my body moving. lol

i also want to say that i bought jillians protein shake powder stuff. i used a yoplait smoothie mix (frozen fruit and yogurt) with the shake and it is really good.

just thought i would bump the thread... spring is around the corner and we are heading to the fort in 46 days and i need motivation.

Hey Cheryl! The gym is going well! :thumbsup2 I joined a zumba class, too. Lots of sweating....good fun. :lmao: So, even though the scale isn't really moving, my clothes are fitting better.

Jillian Michaels is tough! If she was my personal trainer, I'd be skinny right now! Keep up the good work! Thanks for bumping the thread. You're right...spring will be here before we know it!!! I can't wait. I'm so tired of the snow!!!

you know the weather is finally decent (at least here it is) and we have a few more gg's coming up. i think we need to get this party started again.

i know there are quite a few of you that are walking/biking and so on. so, let's post when we can. let's try to post at least once a week. let us know if you are trying a new class, etc and how it is going. like kelly with her zumba. that sounds like so much fun. but, i don't dance, never have, never will. lol

i would prefer kick-boxing. oh yeah...

so far this week i have walked a hilly, 2.6 miles for 50 minutes on sunday, monday and wednesday. i couldn't walk tuesday because it was raining and we had a 4 hour night class.

so, who else wants to chime in???

I have been rollerblading about 1/2 hour a night. Today I reached my first weight loss goal this time around. I have officially lost 30lbs. I wanted to lose it before my vacation and I had 2.5 weeks to spare.... maybe I'll hit 35????

OK, I will chime in. I went to the Dr. a couple of months ago to see about some blood work that was taken and got the major lecture of my life. Since then (late March) I have been on a strict regiment from the Dr. I am down over 30lb and still going. Yesterday, I donated some more pounds (a foot of my hair) to Locks of Love, so that should help some too! Since this is the first week of summer break, I am running around with my head cut off doing all the stuff I couldn't do while at work, so hopefully I will get in a routine and start my walking in the morning and get some more off. I am on medication, so I have to go in every month and have the BP, blood work and weight done, but it is worth it to me. I have very little appetite and my husband says I eat like a bird. Plus, I have my energy back now.

Great job Jen!!!! I find it easier to loose weight in the summer than during school. For some reason when I am in my classroom, I am hungry all the time!!! My next goal is to be down at least another 10 lbs before we go back to school which is around August 2nd! I know it doesn't sound like much, but I am going easy on myself as we will be in Cancun for a week!!

Gastric Bypass saved me from a heep of future trouble. I was athletic in HS and college and easily burned of the 5 meals a day I consumed. When I got side lined with a knee injury I did not change my eating habits and put a ton of weight on in a hurry. Fast foward 14 years, my hip started to collapse into itself (due to my weight and old injuries catching up to me) and I had to get my weight under control or I would be sitting in a wheel chair watching my kids and not be able to do the activities with them. After many different failed weight lose methods, 2 1/2 years ago I had gastric bypass done and lost over 200 pounds. I am half the person I used to be (literally) and am able to roll around in the grass with my 2, 5 and 7 y/o kids. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Kinda thread drift (sorry), but I was at the doctor's yesterday for bloodwork. While I was waiting for the tech (and waiting, and waiting), I was sitting right next to the scale. I usually don't take off my shoes when they weigh me (sneakers, usually). So I weighed myself. Then I took off my sneakers and hoodie. FOUR POUND difference! I didn't think it would be that much. They're just your normal sneakers and a 'Canes hoodie.

So there's a quick weight loss story right there! :goodvibes

When it's your choice to do this, it's a good thing. When diabetes forces you to do this, it sucks. (Oh, that's a different thread). I knew of & understood the word "moderation" since I was a child - but never put it into practice. I'm paying for it now. It's a PITA to hold yourself back when you are used to eating and drinking as you wish, but for your health's sake, do it now while your body can still forgive you. It's too late for me.

I had the roux en y, and the surgery wasn't that bad, the recovery sucked!!! I had some complications and almost died!!! LOL I was, according to the BMI chart, 300 overweight, but I am 6'8" and it says I should be about 180 ish, and if I was that skinny, I could be a skeleton for halloween and not need a costume LOL.

My insurance was a PITA, but I am also fighting them on my heart problem as well, so I am not a good one to ask. They did pay for it in the end, but was a fight to get there.

I would be very happy if I lost about 100 more!

It would put me at a totally normal bmi. I think they gave me a 100 lb goal for June to keep me on the right track. I told the nutritionist not to worry...I will do better than that! :thumbsup2 Some insurance companies won't cover WLS unless you are over a certain bmi or are at least so many lbs over-weight. I think it all depends on your insurance co. Most weight loss docs also have non-surgical options (ie. pills, shots). Maybe check into that, too, if your mom can't do surgery.

I had to have a hysterectomy last year and have tried to be very careful with my weight. My Dr. said hysterectomies have nothing to do with weight gain, and I'm not saying she's lying, but in my family, I've seen huge weight gain for the women who have had the surgery. I actually lost 10 pounds after my surgery, but I also 'bout died so part of that was the trauma of everything. I began to slowly gain that back around February, which was okay. But, another 7 has come along with it. I am continuing to walk, drink my water, etc. So I don't know?!?!?! Ugh about the hysterectomy! I don't know if it causes weight gain or not, but I do know that the older you get the harder it is to lose and keep off! Fo sho! I've had to take drastic measures and wish the progress would happen faster. I had my weight back fairly close to where I needed to be after my first was born. But after the second one, at age 36, FORGET IT!!! I finally have the motivation to get going. My goal is to parasail over Bay Lake in 2011. 3 years ago DH & I wanted to do parasailing at Castaway Cay while on a Disney cruise. DCL said we had to 'fly' seperately because our combined weight was over the threshold. That really scared me since I'm afraid of flying & the ocean! But once on the parasailing boat the captain said our 10 pounds overweight was no problem & let us do it together. I loved it!! Since then DH lost 65 pounds, but I found almost all of that, so when booking it for last month's cruise we didn't even ask DCL, just the boat captain & once again no issue. The moral to the story.....don't let weight keep you from doing this!!! You'll love it..... a bird's eye view of CC......

I'm too fat to ride horses or even do the Backwoods Segway Tour. I even need a special chair to sit in. People see me coming and they put their chairs up and go inside.

You don't look fat to me. You can sit in my chairs anytime.:goodvibes

ETA: That doesn't mean than any of you who are carrying a little extra can't sit in my chairs too. All are welcome at the KFK site and you may sit wherever you like.

You'll love it..... a bird's eye view of CC......

now if I could lose enough weight that we could do those little boats while at FW.

LOL@ you Melissa!!!! But you're absolutely right! Moral of the story: If you can fit...then go for it! Thanks for the encouragement/kick in the seat of the pants. ;)

I'm determined to have my weight just where I want it by next trip anyway, so it won't be an issue either way. KFK is restoring her hotness. :lmao:

Itty bitty thang?:rotfl2: Honey, my family don't call me Mississippi Wide Bottom for nothing, ya know?!?!

Parasail? :faint: No way! Now how! Just the thought scares me to death!! (Way worse than riding a horse!!!!!)

Is your new acronym to be MWB? :lmao: PUH-LEEZE!!!!! You are trim and adorable...or rather adorable in all caps. ADORABLE!

Come on and para-"sail away with me" in July! :lmao: Bad joke ...I know. :sad2:

Donnie isn't fat.... he's just messin with ya.

Now if I wanted to go parasailing, they'd need an F-14 to pull my fat **** outta the water.

I don't want it, however, I am suffering because I cannot ever stay warm anymore. I will suffer though.

Yes, walking is so much better with a friend!

So this is why I stay cold from the waist up, but could wear shorts from the waist down year around? :rotfl2:

I'm down ten pounds so far. Have about another 20 to go.
