Great tips Ami.:thumbsup2

As far as cleaning..if I didn't do it..no one would!..So, I guess that's a good thing?....Not sure.

I always find that I'm much more active in the spring/summer when I'm outside gardening.

Even the dog is happy about my exercising a bit more..he's getting two more waks a day, and is lovin' it!:lovestruc

As far as the calisthenics...REALLY?...:scared1:

Hi! Try to limit the Atkins bars. They are good, but some of the ingredients can cause stalls, if you eat too many. I try to limit myself to 2 a week or so.

Sugarfree gum is fine, and so is sugarfree jello!

You're doing great so far! Induction is 2 weeks, and if you cut the Atkins bars, drink all your water, and make sure you get to as close to 20 carbs per day as possible, you could drop 10 pounds in that time!

Remember, during Induction: meat, eggs, cheese, and 2 cups of salad veggies per day. You can also have real salad dressing (italian, ranch, bleu cheese are best), butter, heavy cream in your coffee, sour cream (not low fat), and sugar free drinks. But, limit them, because artificial sweeteners can cause stalls in some people.

thank you so much for your encouragement!!! your great!!!! My husband and I bought the Ketone strips last night and it showed I was in moderate range. I'm feeling better about doing this and needed to see that it was working and if I was using the wrong foods.

Also, I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts - you guys are great!!!

Good Morning! I'm thinking about the exercise thing again. Does anyone have a WII fit? This is a link to it. I am seriously thinking about it. It looks like a good choice of things to do, so if my back bothers me I could try something else. DH could do it also. He is in denial of his weight. He calls his stomach his uni-ab. :rotfl2: There definately is no six pack there anymore! Any comments or thoughts?

Rhonda those do sound good...where do you find those? I know flax is really good for you! I had a good day yesterday too...and managed to not go into hypoglycemia so maybe I'll repeat my day lol

I found them in the health food section at Publix. They're called Omega-something or other. :)

Well I know we were all going to wait until Friday to weight but tomorrow I'll be so busy I might not get a chance to checkin so I thought I would go ahead and post.

I lost 3 pounds this week so far, I know that's not great but I'll be honest and say that I haven't exercised at all this week and I haven't exactly been faithful to my diet plan either, so I'm happy with the 3 pounds.

I also am battling a thyroid issue so I'm pleased with the 3. That's 47 more pounds to go. :rolleyes1

Good Luck Everyone, it's not easy or fun . :yay:

EDIT: Sorry I was quoting about the Wii Fit thing. I thought I hit the quote button. Guess not.

I just pre ordered one. It does look awesome. It is so much easier for me to do stuff that is at home then to have to go somewhere. Even walking is tough for me. We live on a road where people just fly and there are no sidewalks so I don't like to walk to late, especially if it is getting dark. So if I have something I can do after the kids go to bed it will be perfect. Although, DH and I have decided that we are going to start walking during the day while the kids are gone. He just got an electric wheelchair that has 5 speeds, he said he'll keep it in 5 (4.5 mph) and I can keep up. I think he might be trying to kill me!:rotfl:

I weigh in the mornings too, before breakfast.

I have lost 1.5 pounds since Monday. It's not great, but it's something. I didn't have a good day yesterday. I didn't walk or take my vitamins and I had McDonalds for lunch. I did push a wiggly 3 year old around the mall in a stroller for about two hours while doing some shopping. That should have burned some extra calories, right?:rotfl2:

You ladies know what I'm talkin' about.

You have your skinny(okay..maybe not skinny..but smaller) clothes..:thumbsup2
You have your fat clothes.
When you're fat clothes get tight..you KNOW you're in trouble!:scared:

So since the fat pants are fitting on the fat butt..(not tight) I'm probably doing okay.:cutie:

I'll probably weigh myself in a few weeks to compare to weight I was at the Dr.'s

Having this thread to check in on during the week has given me some incentive to stay on the wagon. You are all inspirational!

My weekend hasn't been TOO bad. It hasn't been perfect either though. Friday was tough, my DD9 had a "buffet" thing at her school. They have been doing a big unit on Countries, so they had "Foods Around the World" I felt like I was at EPCOT.:goodvibes Everyone had something to make, I tried to be good, but somethings were too good. Yesterday I did better, and today so far even better. So hopefully I will be back on track. I did weigh myself Sat. morning and I gained a pound. Oops.

Yesterday morning I found one of the pounds I had lost by Thursday night...but this morning it was gone again and it took 3 more pounds with it....so if ya do the math...I lost 4 pounds in one day!!!!!! Im sure tomorrow I'll find some of them back again!!! I find my weight bounces off...like a basketball. Lose 3, gain one...lose 2,gain one...lose 4, gain two. As long as the gains dont overpower the losses, I guess Im good.

My oldest kid graduated H.S. yesterday.....I was a pretty damn proud papa!! We had a little family party here after, then she went to "THE" party....I expected her to come home slurring and stumbling....but she walked in one hundred percent sober......with a ton of gifts that the "SCHOOL" supplied for each student as a graduation gift...one of the new Nintendo DS', along with several gift cards to various merchants in the area. I have been round for round with this school...not liking alot of the ways they ran things (might have been a personal vendetta against her Principal), but after seeing the expenses they went through to make sure the kids had an alternative to the usual teenager graduation drink-off parties.....I have found a new respect for the final outcome......they may have taken some different roads, but the destination was the same as what I wanted for my kid.

Second- I'm glad i'm not the only one who fell off the wagon this weekend. I went to my grandma's today. Thought i had prepared myself but fell apart when the red velvet cake came out, and then a piece of that pineapple orange cake and then went ahead and ate the lunch she had prepared. I can't believe i'm doing so bad this weekend and only started the diet last Monday. I usually don't fall apart this early in the game. Rog, congratulations to you, your wife, and your daughter. I'm glad she made you proud with her behavior after graduation. I kind of wish that our school around here would do something like that.

Foodwise, this weekend can easily be summed up by a quote from Stand By Me. "Oh, Margee just screwed the pooch." (That's for all those old Saturday Night Live/ Mary Catherine Gallgher fans.) Much like Rog, we had some celebrating of our own and it wasn't because my 5th 29th birthday is coming up tomorrow. No, it was because our son learned how to use the bathroom. College graduation is just around the corner, I know it ;). Anyway, for his present, DH and I took him to this play called Ride Makerz to make his own RC car. Then, he chose to eat at Chipotle. I don't know if you've heard, but Chipotle has the worst rating as far as caloric intake for all fast food restaurants. I guess it wouldn't be that bad if we hadn't tried out the new pizza place for dinner.

That added to both my mom and MIL making cakes for my 29+5 birthday that I felt inclined to eat and I know that I can't even touch the scale until Tuesday.

On the exercise front, my son and I ran around the playground for an hour. Let me tell you, he's harder than any personal trainer. He had me climbing things and going through stuff. The best part was when he asked me to climb up this circular cargo net. First of all, I barely fit in there (hence the sausage reference) and it killed me to climb up the thing. When I got to the top, I pulled myself on the little platform like a beached whale. I thought I was going to die:eek: . then he patted me on the head and said, "Good job mom, do it again." I think he's got a career in torture in his future.

I'm wondering if all of that climbing, running, and sliding burned off a burrito bol.:rolleyes1

Good morning! It's monday and the start of a brand new week! Lots of celebrating going on! Congrats to all for their various reasons!!! For those who feel they've fallen off the wagon...just get back on! Life has celebrations. You can't deny yourself. Just don't celebrate every day...or even every week! Just call it fuel to get you through to the next celebration, maybe have a goal to achieve before that time.:goodvibes

I guess my weekend wasn't too awful. We went to busch gardens and colonial williamsburg, so I did a lot of walking. Plus playing on the playground at the the campgound. Swinging can really use muscles!!!!! I decided that there were no calories on Mother's day, but looking back, I really didn't consume nearly enough calories for it to be considered a free day. Bummer. I really should have taken advantage of that! My DD made me a choclatey coffee and a blueberry waffle for breakfast. I decided I would have a burger for dinner (I don't remember the last time I had one), but could only eat half. I should have had lots of chocolate or something.

Anyway, I have my goal of being down 10 lbs before I go to Europe. So I'm going hardcore now!!!!! I bought a pretty "springtime in Paris" dress that fits maybe a little too well. I want to wear it to the eiffel tower and feel good about it!!! :rolleyes1

What are you all doing for exercise this week???

Whatever, it really irratated me because she isn't large. Big for her age maybe, but, she is solid and everything is pretty much in proportion. It isn't like she is all belly or something. Besides she is REALLY developing. So of course now she is going psycho with what she is eating(lets start an eating disorder now shall we:mad: ) I told her I would walk with her in the evenings, so I will be getting in some walking from now on. I'm sorry, but that is just wrong! Does that doc not have the sense to know that is the worst thing to say to a pre-teen girl????? Mention it to her parents, suggest all the yummy fruits she should have for dessert for her HEALTH, not for the weight! If a doc told my DD11 that, I would be finding a new doc. Anytime my daughter mentions the word calories, I tell her that if she eats smart, only eats when she is hungry and gets outdoors to play everyday, than everything will work out. As growing girls, "calorie" should not be a part of their vocabulary!

I'm chiming in here late, but I'm in too. I've actually been doing pretty well. About a year ago, I decided I needed to lose some weight. I started by just cutting the junk. I swapped from full blown Mountain Dew to Diet Mountain Dew and water, no more chips and dip is allowed in the house, I've stayed away from the candy jars and donuts folks keep bringing into work, so basically cutting the carbs and junk. However, I'm not eating any healthier or different as far as my meals go, except for skipping desert. I'm not really exercising either, but over the summer, I'm a lot more active with the camper and the yard work and I bought a bicycle to get around campgrounds instead of using hubbys ECV. To date I've dropped 47 pounds. I've gone from a 18 to a 14. (Just bought a bunch of summer slacks and they're all 14s) I've pretty much come to a standstill and holding steady for about the last two months. So I guess I need to start walking more, and actually doing better with my regular meals. Also, I'm having surgery in July, and will be doing NOTHING for at least 3 weeks. I've told DH that not one single fattening thing will be allowed in the house while I'm home.

I'd like to drop another 30-40 pounds, but really want to do it slowly, cause quite honestly, can't afford a whole nother wardrobe just yet.

Had a pretty good weekend. I did splurge a little yesterday with a cheeseburger and fries for dinner and a small piece of cake. I ate good the rest of the day and weekend. So I figured one meal is not going to kill me or ruin my efforts. I did not get my 10,000 steps in either because I had a lazy day thanks to DH giving me some mommy time in front of TV. I did get in over 14,000 steps on Sat. which was good. I am really trying to focus on all of the positive things I did and not the one "bad" meal and lazy day.

Anyway, my DD9 was told by her doctor that she needs to watch her weight because her BMI is too high. I also am waiting on my Wii Fit to come then I will be an excercising machine!http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_5_131.gifSorry to hear that your dr. said this. I know you'll keep a close eye on her.

We are in the middle of a similar situation but not with the dr. My freakin niece (no "dear" right now) who is 8, told my DD8 that if she was an adult she would be fat like her mother (me). And then she threatened her that if she told anyone she would never speak to her again. I told my DSis who confronted her and the kid apologized but the damage is already done. We now have to watch our DD because she tries not to eat meals in attempt to lose weight. And to make matters worse, my niece weighs more then my DD but DD can't see that. :headache: She's got a small belly but nothing that she won't grow out of when she shoots up again.

I had really hoped I'd be on here a whole lot more commiserating with ya'll, but we've been trying to squeeze in as much family time as possible before we head back out overseas. Honestly, I was all prepared to post on Friday, (I think that's when most of us are weighing in), but my folks took us to a fancy German restaurant for my birthday last week, and instead of my weight coming down, it went up!!!!:scared1: :scared1:

It's back down to what I started with 2 weeks ago (or whenever it was this thread started), so I feel like Im starting over. Ugh!

I completely agree, I did say something after. I have gotten DD to see that right now she is going to be "growing" more because of the developmental process and that she will even out at some point. I told her all her friends will go through it too, but she will be done. It bothered me when she told her to cut back on snacks and get more activity because she doesn't have a clue what DD eats. She actually eats better than all of us all the time, and now that it is getting nice she is outside from the time homework is done to when it is time to come in. Then when my DD6 went for her apt. the doc said she was perfect and if you ask me she needs to put on weight.:sad2:

Anyway, to be back OT, I had an AWESOME day today, and I feel great!! DH and I went for a nice walk, and I have had a fairly easy time eating right today.:woohoo:

Poor baby.:flower3: Unfortunately girls at younger ages have become more occupied with looks and appereances than we ever were, yet they are not there emotionally to handle it. It is true, they are still in the bulk out, shoot up stage of life, but they don't understand that. It is really sad that society is so stuck on being stick thin, that our little girls grow up with that thrown in their face. It is ridiculous. I have told both my girls that yes, I am trying to loose weight, but not because I want to be skinny, but because I want to be healthier to be able to play and run with them and have more energy. It's tough to be a little girl these days.

I wanted to get in an hr but only made it about 40min. before i had to get the neighbors kid home and my kids ready for bed. I guess its better than nothing. I did good eating except for a poptart. I don't know why i ate it.

Hi All! Congrats to all that lost a few pounds! I actually lost 2, but I'm with Rog, they may show back up tomorrow, then be gone the next day....so does that mean I lost 4???? I wish!!!!

As for the weekend, I didn't quite fall off the wagon. I held on for dear life while it dragged me behind! What I ate wasn't so healthy, but because it was Prom day at the salon, it was all I ate! As a mother of boys, I don't know how you all survive your girls....I don't know who is worse on Prom day, the teenage girl or her helicopter mother! Anyway, being busy kept me from stuffing my face out of frustration!

Seabee - that is exactly what I tell my DD. I'm losing weight to be healthy. But because I had gastric bypass I eat very little and she sees that. I stress to her that I'm doing it under the supervision of the doctor and a nutritionist and NOT on my own. She's been to both appts with me so she understands but emotionally its tough. Fortunately she's still at the stage that I can tell when she's hungry and her hunger always wins out if I put the food in front of her. You are right that life is tough for little girls.

And I lost 2 pounds this week. I thought I would do better but alas I discovered Skinny Cow this weekend. I had 3 of the Skinny Dippers in about 36 hours. Hmmm, I think I will leave those evil things to the rest of the family and settle for fruit. But they taste so heavenly...:cloud9:

What are Skinny Dippers????

Hows the surgery results going for you Eeyore? Our surgeries are VERY similar, I had the gastric sleeve, was going to get the lap-band, but it was too much maintenance and not a high enough success rate and my Dr said the success rate is even lower for males...so he talked me into the sleeve, and its been working fairly well for me. Do you feel actual pain if you eat a bite ot two to many?

In case anyone is wondering, or thought the 2 operations were the same thing....heres a pic of what the sleeve consists of...the pouch part of the stomach is completely removed from the body, and the remaining stomach walls are sewn together like a sleeve....

HI Rog -
Skinny Cow makes ice cream with no sugar added. The Skinny Dippers are the smallest and have the least amount of sugar. They are the size of an ice pop. 80 cals, 3 grams of fat and 7 grams of sugar!!! They have them in vanilla, caramel and mint. And all are coated (on the top half) with chocolate. Ooohhhh they are soooo good!! :cloud9: :cloud9: And of course my DD doesn't like caramel so someone had to eat them.:rolleyes1

My surgeon told me he wouldn't give me the band. I have too much to lose for the band and I agree that I didn't want those fills. Too much of a hassle for me.

As for overeating, I do get chest pain. It feels like an elephant is sitting on your chest. I don't do it often as I try to measure everything. If I'm out to eat I err on the side of caution, eat less and take the rest home in a doggy bag. I had surgery 5 1/2 months ago and I'm down 111 pounds (counting the 2 from this morning). I'm pleased but I have a long way to go. I'm more then halfway to the surgeon's goal so I guess I should be pleased but I want to lose it all right away. Oh well.

Glad you're doing well. I put my ticker on the other board. I don't have the guts to put one on here. :scared:
The gastric sleeve looks similar to the duodenol switch. Do you know what the difference is? My surgeon only did the RNY and the Lap band so my choices were limited. And of course the insurance only covered the two anyway. I wouldn't want to pay privately for this.

Your insurance paid? Wow, that was one of my excuses for not doing it, I didn't want to pay! I have all kinds of medical reasons to get it, arthritis, chronic pain, need knees replaced, ankle fused, borderline high blood pressure and herniated discs in back. I wonder if they will pay for me?

Now if I could just get past the fear, and I still worry that I will "miss" eating.

Check with the insurance company. I paid the co-pay for all the testing before hand ($25 for each specialist) and then my $500 co-pay for the hospital. Otherwise my insurance covered everything. I think the surgery was billed at $22,000 and then the 2 days in ICU that my surgeon insists on.

I thought I would miss eating as well. In fact I had surgery the week after Thanksgiving. You would have thought that I was having my throat cut the way I was eating. I swear I gained 5 pounds right before surgery. :sad2: It was hard in the beginning get used to the new changes in dietary restrictions but it is definitely worth it. I spend alot more time awake with my DD. I used to nap every day when I got home from work. Now I'm up until 11 p.m. and up again at 5:30 raring to go.

And believe it or not, there is a book titled "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". Its actually very good and answers alot of questions. Good luck with your decision. Its a tough one to make.

The gastric sleeve looks similar to the duodenol switch. Do you know what the difference is? Wow...not many people have heard of the duodenal....yes its actually the FIRST Operation of the DS...they do the sleeve. and allow the patient to loose a massive amount of weight so that they will be at a lower risk when they go in to finalize the duodenal(hence the "duo" part...2 part procedure). My surgeon explained to me that so many patients who were scheduled for the duodenal had done so well without part2...that it became its own procedure.

John, most insurances will try to get out of paying for the GBypass, but will cave after your surgeons "handle them" with threats of not looking out for your future health and preventing you from an available livelihood. The GSleeve is a bit of a different story....its fairly new so most ins companys can use the term "experimental procedure" to get out of paying for it...although 7 years of successful stories hardly seems experimental any more!!!

You probably WILL miss eating....but what you may never be able to admit to yourself is that overeating is a HABIT that we've spent years on perfecting....once the habit is broken, it SOO MUCH EASIER....I admit, the pain of accidentally overeating helped break the habit pretty quickly!!! Not to mention....well, Ive told ya'll this before....ya eat too much....ya cant help throwing some of it up. That gets old too, after a while...ya just learn that the puking and pain is better avoided, and everything just falls into place. I understand your fear, John.....I REALLY do...........but think of the first time you went on space mountain, and remember how happy you were that you made yourself go on it!!!! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! New to this section of DIS and Rhonda graciously pointed me to you.

My name is Liz and am 43 yrs young. Have wonderful DH and 19yo DS who will be starting university in Manchester, England in Sept. Couple years ago I lost about 20 lbs but a series of family emergencies brought it all to a halt and gained back 15 of those.

I started walking seriously after doing the WDW 5K in Jan. I've had arthrits since I was 11 so running is out however loving the distance walking!

Looking to lose 20-25lbs and can always use more support/ideas! With the walking I've lost about 5 lbs in a month but since I've been training for longer distances the scale doesn't move as much. However my clothes are all fitting differently so something is going right. Just have to stick with it, right?

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting thru our set backs (or at least the ones I know I'll have) as well as celebrating our accomplishments!

Ok, I haven't done well at all this week and I know that so I haven't even thought about getting up on the scales. Next week I will jump back on the bandwagon...not this week though.

As some of you already know my dd had a miscarriage this week, she was 4 months along...I eat whenever I'm stressed so you can imagine what I've shoved in my mouth. As for my dd she's fine now, she told me in the hospital that she would rather have a miscarriage than to give birth to a baby that might would suffer in anyway, to see a child suffer is the worse possible feeling in the world, so our family agrees that God must have had a hand in it, God never makes mistakes. She's young and has a whole life ahead of her, she said she is still going to try during the fall again ( TMI )hehe.

This whole week whenever I looked at something bad to eat , my inter skinny self screamed not to do it but I was quickly able to shut it up with a cookie ! :lmao:

I have found my new healthy summer addiction. We do a lot and I mean A LOT of BBQing in the summer, and I have been trying to find new things to grill that would keep me on track. I was bummed that I would have to watch the sauces and what not that go along with BBQing. But what to my dreary eye would appear....a new McCormick Grill Mates seasoning that would be good for my rear.:lmao: Sorry, I was trying to find something that rhymed.:lmao: Anyway, I have decided that instead of burgers I would switch to Turkey Burgers, and I love BBQ sauce on my burgers, of course that is not always good. Grill Mates has a new Barbeque seasoning that tastes just like BBQ sauce. We had it 2 nights ago on pork chops, and last night on Turkey Burgers. YUUUUUMMMMMYYYY! Add a little lettuce and slice of tomato and it was perfect. Anyway, just wanted to share that for anyone who is addicted to BBQ sauce like I am. Have a great day everyone!

Hi,
I would like to loose in the next six months 40 lbs. That is what I gained in two years during two pregnancy's.:confused3

I am chasing my girls but I am still gaining weight. Maybe some support could help me loose.

Ami, I thought we were cyber walking this morning? I didn't feel your presence. lol (i haven't walked yet either) How's your DD feeling. As soon as i got into town this morning they called me from school to say my dd had spilled a drink all over her so i had to turn around and take her dry clothes. So it wouldn't have worked out anyway.

amaycatbaker, welcome. Glad you joined.

seabee, if you like grilled chicken try McCormicks grill mates Montreal Steak marinade in the packets. You do add a little oil, water and vinegar to it. It couldn't add to much fat though. Let it marinade overnight. Yummy! Yummy!

I'm baking brownies right now and they smell so good! I keep reminding myself that tomorrow is weighin. I also have to make 2 baked spaghetti's tonight. I hate being fat!!!!

I have gotten my 10,000 steps in every day this week so far. Now I just need to work on what I put in my mouth. The pizza I had for lunch tasted very good however it won't feel good when I get on the scales tomorrow and I don't see a loss. Why do I do this to myself? I hope everyone else is having a great day. Good luck tomorrow with weigh in.

May I join in as well? I would like to lose 50 lbs as well...as a starter! :rotfl:

Weight Watchers works best for me. I'm kicking myself for stopping working out. Last year this time, I was with a trainer a couple of times a week. Now, I've become quite the couch potato.

It's really time for me to gut check and get in good health....5lbs at a time.

Thanks!

Hi
Just found this thread. I am from England I am booked at FW in a cabin from 19th to 27th December. Started my diet with Weight Watchers on 3rd Jan 08. Lost 35 and a half pounds so far. Haven't put weight on once which is unbelievable for me. This week has been the first week I haven't been able to go due to work so will have to wait to next week so fingers crossed. Need to lose another 4st (sounds horrible when I say that).
Anyway, hoping this thread will give help me stay away from the chocolate!

Well, it's Friday- I guess that means I'm supposed to step on a scale! I guess this trying to lose anything just ain't gonna happen until I get back to Kazakhstan where I can be in my own routine, in my own house, cooking my own food! How do you guys do it if you're out of your own element, eating someone else's cooking and all that? Should I just give up? Everytime I turn around, it's "let's go out", or "I don't have anything else, just eat another sausage". I think it's useless to even try until the 30th when we get back overseas.

I just couldn't get on the scale yesterday. I have been stressing about my MIL coming on Weds to visit for a week and how my house is a minor disaster and my DS's have exams in less then 2weeks and I just want the school year to be over. I spent the last week eating peanut butter cookies that I made for the oldest DS and I don't even like them (the cookies, not the kid). On the plus side, my lovely family got me a new ipod for mom's day (I had to promise not to put this one in washer and dryer) and I managed to put a playlist for walking on it and even find it for use when I went out for my walks this week (not an electronics girl at all). So I guess I did walk so maybe that will help.

I have to vent....

I've been having some kind of weird symptoms lately....well, for awhile really. The doc thought it sounded like food allergies, so I went through some testing. I am allergic to soy. This really sucks! First of all, I love soy! A lunch for me is a bowl of Edamame cover in red wine vinigar! I had planned veggie burgers for dinner last night~soy! I eat a lot of Tofu, too. I'm bummed. I got even more bummed last night when I went to the store to find a soy free dinner. Everything has soy lechtin, or soy flour or soy oil in it! I ate a grilled portabello mushroom with tomato and lettuce last night. No bun...it had soy in it! I had black bean bisque for breakfast. I about broke down when I saw the soy sauce in the store!!!! How can I eat sushi without soy sauce??????:sad2:

The good news is, I will definitely loose weight because I can't eat anything but fruit, veggies and plain yogurt!

It's in everything!!!!! I spent an hour in the store just reading labels! Cereal, bread, granola bars, ice cream, sauces, etc etc....especially "diet" food. I know it's best to eat real food anyway. If it has stuff you can't pronounce don't put it in your body....I thought eating soy was a good thing though. Boy, I'm gonna miss my soy nuts!

As tough as it is, I know we will both end up feeling better for it! I don't know what symptoms you've had, but every morning I wake up with my hands and face swollen. I've had dizzy spells and joint pain. As much as I'll miss soy, I am looking forward to feeling better!

Ami, sorry about your allergy. Im sure it will be a challenge to give up soy but hopefully it will make you feel better. Being swollen is no fun. I received lovely news from my Dr this week too. I have 3 sebaceaus cysts in my head. One of them is infected, so that means antibotics. then they're going to remove 2 of them on the 29th. He informed me they will have to dig one of them out. Wish he had used a better term. I already have a headache. Not to mention the hair is falling off the one thats infected. I'm trying not to be vain and remind myself that cancer patients don't have any hair. He said it should grow back. Mean time my Dh and kids are having a ball with it. I'll be wearing my hair up for awhile. I think it would be harder for me to give up food though.

The good news is, I will definitely loose weight because I can't eat anything but fruit, veggies and plain yogurt!

there's no soy in white castles and beer

Good luck to those of you with your food allergies. Unfortunately, I'm not allergic to anything and that seems to be my downfall:rotfl: .

On a good note, today we are celebrating Mothers Day because last Sunday I had to work and just was not in the mood. So my DS's bought me........

A WII SYSTEM and I am getting a Wii Fit!

I'm so excited! They are setting it up right now and we are going to play the games that came with it and on Wednesday I will get the Wii Fit. I will let you know how it works when I get it. God, I love my boys!

So far I've done good this week ,of course it's only wednesday , I think it's the calm before the storm...lol...it's next week I'm worried about, my dh is off from work next week and we have no travel plans, so this means we will be sleeping late, eating junk and grillling out alot, also we have a memorial day party planned for monday so that's even more junk. We do plan on painting our living room and one of our bedrooms so perhaps I'll pick up a paint brush and get a work-out:rolleyes:

I'm not going to weight friday, I think I will wait until the first friday in June to survey the damage...:rolleyes1

Good luck to everyone for the rest of this week and for next week as well, I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday, traveling or not.

Side note...we had planned on going to Myrtle beach for the memorial weekend but because of gas prices and lack of money we have decided not to this year, it will be our first memorial day home in years.. we are putting our money into a fund ( envelope ) for next year for WDW, so I put up the money I would normally have spent in Myrtle B. and I have a little WDW fund going for next year...

Well, I got my Wii Fit today. It is pretty cool. I will unlock more excercises as I score higher. I will be honest the strength training made me a little sore. You have to keep repeating the activities though to get enough reps but it's good. As you go along you get more and more excercises that are harder. I think it will be fun, we will see what I get for results.

I'm actually looking forward to stepping on the scale tomorrow morning (I think)! I didn't join Curves, but I started doing the treadmill down at our gym this week. I walk at 3.2 mph, at a slight incline, for a mile. I know that doesn't sound like much - but for me, it's a great start! At least I'm off my butt! (Yes, we can say "butt" here, LOL)

I have an appointment with a personal trainer at the gym next Friday. (I was hoping for "Raoul", but I'm getting "Lou Ann". :headache:  ) She's going to put me on a good personalized exercise routine, and show me how to use all those torture devices (oops - I mean exercise machines). In the meantime, I'll stick with the treadmill this week.

I'm having a bit of an internal conflict.....maybe you all can voice your opinions.....

I'm trying to balance health with what I'm comfortable looking like. Ultimately, my main focus is being healthy. I want to be in shape enough to think running a 5k is no biggie. I don't particularly want to be "thin" though. Does that sound crazy? I really don't think its a laziness thing....I just like having curves  For example, I watched American Idol last night....I thought Jordan Sparks looked beautiful! Right now my BMI is 27. If I loose down to where I want to be I'll be 25.5-just slightly overweight. Weight watchers wants my goal to be between 20 and 23. Am I sacrificing my health to keep on those extra pounds?

BTW Rhonda, great job on the treadmill! 3.2 for a mile is wonderful!

Tent Camping Mom

Am I sacrificing my health to keep on those extra pounds?

No, I don't think so. I'm the prime case scenario. I'm overweight but my last physical proved I'm healthy. In fact, my doctor asked me if I was on cholesterol meds because my lab work showed it was lower than most people my age and at the ideal levels. I exercise fairly regularly and stuff my face fairly regularly and overeat fairly regularly, but I do make mostly healthy choices and have been gradually converting my family to healthier eating habits. Such as whole wheat pasta instead of white, brown rice instead of white, lots of green veggies, oatmeal for breakfast with a side of veggie bacon. Meats are turkey, chicken, and seafood. I don't cook red meat at all but DS will have that at school and DH will occasionally grill red meats but we also have grilled shrimp or tilapia along with it. I don't buy processed meats, they're loaded too much with nitrates and sodium. I cringe everytime we're at a baseball game and DS asks for a hotdog, but I let him have it because what's baseball without hotdogs. Occasionally, it's ok. Moderation is the key.

Maybe it depends on how much muscle you have? :confused3 If you're in shape enough to run a 5k, I would think that more of your weight will be muscle tone - and since muscle weighs more than fat, that's where your extra pounds would be coming from. (Did that make sense?)

But, curves are definitely good. Sometimes I think that these charts that tell us how much we "should" weigh are way off. It depends on your own body, and where you feel you are comfortable and healthy. It's not healthy to be a stick either.

Not bad in my book. A couple of years ago I was showing a friend how to choose the settings on a treadmill and with her at about 5 ft. 9 and 130 pounds with legs up to her neck, I figured she could at least handle above 3.0 walk, but when I set it to 3.5 she yelled at me to slow it down. So I slowed it to 3.0, she still yelled at me! She wasn't happy until I set it at 2.8.

I was at the Dr. with my daughter recently. She is an avid swimmer(indoor all winter..and lifequards the summer.) She is also a runner..only she hurt her knee recently(that's why we were at the Dr.) She is at the gym almost daily. She probably weighs 5 -10 lbs more that the weight chart says she should. You would NEVER know that to look at her. She is thin.(reminds me of the old days..but that's another story! ) It's muscle..I mean her legs are rocks. You can see defined claves..and she does run 5K's and mini marathons. She's very active. There is no way that she needs to loose a single pound...let alone 10. Eats very healthy(Is she part of our family..??) Dr. said the same thing, she has muscle and that weighs more than fat.

I got mine yesterday too! I only had an hour to play around with it and I had to fight with DH and DS. I could still hear them laughing when I went to bed. I will try it some more today. I didn't like the fat that it aged me at 60 years old and said I was obese. I'm only 46, but then again my 18 year old was aged at 30. Nicole, I hope all goes well, we'll add your DH and your family to our prayer list too. Here's to a speedy recovery. Keep us posted.
Just tried the Wii Fit at a friends today now I want one too. I'm sore from the hula hoop. Hope you feel better too. Nothing lost this week, we were away. That's my excuse. We are joining a gym, DH and I so we can go together, free child care.

You guys are AWESOME!!! I am going to put an update on the OT thread, because I don't want this one going south. I know you all are trying to avoid the fact that you are suppose to be talking about losing weight and eating healthy. (I'm not on my computer, can't find a cute smilie to put there-bananas are healthy?) I will not be party to you all going off your regimines!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Have your banana and eat it too!

A little banana trivia:

Bananas are extremely high in potassium, yet very low in sodium, thus having a perfect ratio for preventing high blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

I know its suppose to be weighin day but, i have chosen not to step on the scale this morning. A weekend of camping food, dinner and movie night and last night we had mexican. The only good thing i did this week was manage to keep up my walking. I just don't want to have that disappointed feeling all day. Hope everyone else did better than me.

That's good that you kept up with your walking!! That's important, and probably at least kept you at the same weight, because you were walking off the extra calories! Keep that up!

I'm down a couple of pounds this week! Woo-hoo!

I have an appointment this morning with a personal trainer at the gym! I'm scared.
