We have only been on the wonder and that was back in 2003. We would love to go more often but catholic school keeps us low on money. We are very excited to see the ship decorated for xmas.

Hi. We just booked this cruise.

Woody

hi woody!! Welcome! :) We are from the L.A. area too! Maybe we'll be on the same flight! ;) I think we will stay a few days after the cruise, because if it's anything like this December and the years before, we will be on Christmas break when we get off the ship. We have family in Orlando and we felt really rushed visiting with them in April (we spent the night before the cruise there and rushed out the next morning!). The kids had testing going on at school and we really could not add any additional days this past trip. I hope we can budget a few days at WDW after this cruise!

I am booking a family get together cruise while onboard this December. There will be alot of us. DD & DSL along with baby due in May. Myself, DH, Dsis, DS 27, DS 23, DS 20, his girlfriend and baby due in December. I think that adds up to 10. Hopefully everyone will be able to attend. Look forward to trip planning. I am currently booked on the Wonder 12/11/08, 4/9/09 and will be booking this one in Dec.

Hi!

We have booked this cruise back in March on our last cruise. At the time, it was a dummy date, we planned on switching for 2010. But since we really wanted to go on a Western cruise and couldn't afford another time of year, we decided to keep this date, even if the kids have to miss one week from school.

It will be :earsgirl: me, :earsboy: DBF, pirate: DS who will be 7 then and princess: DD who will be 5 then.

This will be our 4th cruise, but our first Western.

does anyone know when the dates for 2009 MVMCP will be announced? We would really like to go to it, and it will probably have to be before the cruise since from what I gather, it is no longer available right before Christmas!

I just took a look at your 2007 pictures. It reminded me of our own WDW/Eastern trip in 2007!

I can't wait to see the ship and CC at Christmas time. We saw the decorations at the terminal in 2005 and a little were left on the ship as it was the beginning of January, but I look forward to seeing the whole thing and the special activities as well. :santa:

We absolutely LOVED the decorations!!! It was incredible how they had the lights and the garland and the Christmas tress and the gingerbread house and all the characters had their "winter" clothes on. My wife and I have decided we are only vacationing in December or January from now on; December if we want Christmas decorations and January if we want the parks and everything to be normal!

Hello everyone, I am Bevtoy, just booked this cruise and am surprising my family with it at Christmas time.
We cruised 2007 for our 25th wedding anniversary to the southern Carribean and loved the Disney Magic. My husband was dreaming about a Disney Christmas cruise so I booked it. Now I am going to make a countdown chain and put it in a big box and wrap it with Disney Christmas paper:woohoo: <rubbing hands together and chortling wickedly> then give it to them for Christmas. :cool1:
I am a graphics nut so i have tons of pictures from out last cruise and graphics galore if anyone has any requests for cruise magnets.

If so we can play guess where and post pictures of the ship and crusie locations and can guess where they are.

We're cold here too! It's 14°F but it feels like -2°F with the wind. And it's snowing as well. I had to walk to school to pick up DS who has a fever and it wasn't fun (with DD along because she also has a fever)!

We've thought about making it, but haven't tried yet; we're the world's WORST procrastinators. It's one of those things where we keep saying we want to try it, but we haven't. And it's cold here too. We had our first sleet/ice of the season and the schools shut down. We don't get snow here too much, it's always sleet and ice and the town shuts down it seems like. But then after about 24-48 hours it melts away. :thumbsup2

Hi all!

We haven't even gone on our first Disney cruise yet (going in January) and we've already put a deposit down on this Dec 12th sailing. It'll be me, DH, and our 2 DSs. DSs will be 7 and 3 next year.

We've only cruised once before (Carnival), and we really liked it. Always wanted to go on a Disney cruise but actually planning for it made me look at our vacation plans for the end of next year. Found a really good price on this sailing ($2660 for a Cat 12 Gty for the 4 of us) so I booked it!

If we like it as much as I'm expecting, I'm going to try to see if I can rebook onboard instead for the OBC. If we hate it (yeah, that's really gonna happen!) then I figure we can just cancel.

Our last cruise group called it "Cruise-A-Palooza" . BTW My oldest daughter Kate is 19 and in college she is going to come with us, as my youngest, Anna who is 11.
It should be interesting to come up with an original name.

Someone who will be my age! Our last group was filled with older adults and little kids. No one really in mine or my sister's age range. Both our birthdays are before the cruise, so I'll be 19 when we go on the cruise and my sister will be 21. If my whole family was going, Anna could meet my younger sister Kennedy who is 13. But my parents and younger sister don't plan on doing another cruise till 2010.

It defiently should be interesting coming up with a name. :goodvibes

We booked this week while we were onboard the Magic the week of Dec. 13-20 and can't wait to go back! It will be myself, DH, DS 13, DD 23 and probably a couple of other stowaways to be determined later! We booked two cabins (the kids get the cat. 11 while we get the cat. 7!) and now we just have to figure out how to pay for it while paying on the June 12 Baltic cruise! Yes, we are Disney addicts but we don't want to be cured! With the snow and cold here in Indy I am definitely dreaming of those warm days at sea!

Just realised I forgot to tell you :welcome: IndyDisneyFan!

Was your cruise a Western? Can you tell us more about the excursions?

IndyDisneyFan
01-08-2009, 06:41 PM
Yes, we were on the western and loved it!
We have done two excusions. The first was the semi-sub in Grand Cayman. We enjoyed it and it is a great way to see a ship wreck, coral, and fish without get into the cold water in the winter. The second was the beach break in Cozumel. It was sectioned off and you barely had room to sit in your very hard plastic not curved to your body chair. Lunch was very good, but we were ready to leave after a couple of hours but were stuck until it was time to go. The water was too cold to really enjoy and the water was full of very sharp coral, not soft sand like we expected. Next time we will skip the excursions, get off to do some shopping in Cozumel (found some wonderful deals there!), maybe walk around a bit in Key West, and enjoy the empty ship while everyone else is in port!

I've got a few in mind. If no one has any objections, I can have it up and running by Sunday Evening. So. Do I have the green light to start fixing it up?

Got back from our 4 day Wonder sailing last week and it was awesome. But we've changed our plans and won't be on this 12/12/09 cruise anymore. We're going to do the transatlantic repo in 2010 instead!!! Everyone have a great time!

That sounds like a VERY good way to think of it!! :rotfl2: I'm like you, riding horseback with beautiful scenery sounds GREAT, but what are your plans for the next day and do they include getting out of bed???

I am sorry to see you go but hope your future cruise is better for you!

Our oldest daughters retail employer passed a "No December vacations"
rule, she was just promoted to entry level management at Walmart.
We are waiting to see if they will make a exception since we already have reservations.

Hello Everyone:

We have booked this cruise and are counting the days now until we leave. We have cruised with DCL in the past with our children but this time will be a special anniversary cruise for my DH and I. December 12, 2009 is our 28th wedding anniversary and December 18, 2009 is the third anniversary since our vow renewal which we did with DCL in 2006. Disney certainly made that a very special day for us and did an amazing job of the cake, flowers, ceremony, pictures, etc. As soon as we saw the dates of this cruise, it seemed like a cruise made for us and we just had to book it. We will certainly miss our children but do have two cruises booked with them in July 2010 in Europe and December 2010 for Christmas.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing a magical experience.

Take care.

Hi everybody! DH & I will be cruising with all of you in December, and we are so so excited. :woohoo: We are huge Disney fans, but we've never been on ANY cruise before. We'll be celebrating our 5th Anniversary (no little ones...yet) and we just found out about the fish extenders, which seem like fun, and we were wondering what else DCL cruisers can tell us about other fun traditions that will help to make this trip even more special. What are the magnets for? Thanks so much!!:cutie:

Hi Erin!! WELCOME!!! My DH (RBennett) and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary too on this cruise. It's actually the day before (on the 11th.) As far as the fish extenders go, I'll tell you what we did in 2007; we took Christmas stockings and decorated them with different things like glitter and what-not and then hung them outside our doors. As for the magnets, they are basically just a way to decorate your door for fun and to help you distinguish your door easier. We have TONS of door magnets that we still have on our refrigerator. One good magnet that we like to stick on the door is to go to Home Depot and get some lime green paint samples with the mickey heads and cut them out. Then you can stick a magnet on the back and instant door magnet. :thumbsup2

Most of this material came from Walmart and Joann. Get your material, and some fusible webbing....it goes by different names in different stores. Tell them you want WonderUnder stuff, they'll know. I can totally give you the dimensions and walk you through it. Oh yeah, be sure and get color coordinating edging, you'll want the bigger stuff to cover up the edges :lovestruc .

Hello All!

DH & I just booked this cruise over this past weekend. We will first be sailing on the May 10th 4 day Wonder cruise, which will be our first cruise together.

DH has not cruised before. I have been on the 3 day Wonder once before in April 2003 on a cast member special rate with my old roommate who was then and is still a cast member. I was also on a 10 day Celebrity cruise with friends from college in the summer of 2002. Since it has been so long since I have cruised, it feels like this will be my first time too! DH & I are so excited, we've been spending so much time on the internet researching. We realized that the 4 day may end up seeming too short, so we also started looking at costs for a 7 day....

Low & Behold the great rate for the Dec 12th Western cruise!! DH already had vacation scheduled that week, so we went for it!! I originally thought that perhaps while we were on board the May cruise that we would look into rebooking for Dec & get the discount and obc. However, i had been checking and rechecking the rates on DCL.com, and i panicked when i saw the cat 12s disappear. Once I saw them appear again, I figured it was now or never. Why wait till May and end up losing out? (There really is no way we could afford to go in anything other than a cat 12.....just can't justify it.) I also feel like I saw a post that you do not get 10% off a cat 12 while rebooking on board, and the only thing offered is the obc. (anyone know if that is correct? also, does anyone know if we may be able to cancel and rebook the Dec trip while on board in May and be eligible for the obc perk? that would be assuming that the cat 12s are available at that time and are at least at the same rate we just got....which seems sorta unlikely...)

I am new to the DISboards, but have been a life long fan of Disney (I also am a former cast member). I have been reading & discovering the cool ideas of doing meets on the cruise and fish-extending....sounds so fun!! At first I thought it was mainly a way for the parents to see if there will be other kids the same age as theirs to play with. But it seems it's for the adults as much as the kids, huh?

We booked our May 10th cruise without ever knowing that it was a special podcast event. We had booked directly on dcl.com and paid in full at the time, so we never had a chance to transfer to DU and get in on the meets and things for that one. I have a feeling I will get a kick out of checking out the DISers doors & fish-extenders while on board. I hope to be so inspired to make my own for the Dec trip!!

anyhoo...i know this is getting super duper long-winded so I will end it here!! I am excited to get to know y'all over the next 8 and a half months between now and Dec 12th!!! :santa:

Thanks for the welcome, Scooby!

My Cast Member history:
summer 1996 - WDW College Program - Guest Relations at Blizzard Beach

summer 1997 - WDW College Program - Accounting Intern with Walt Disney World Payroll Dept in the Team Disney Building across from Downtown Disney

1999-2000 - Sr. Accounting Clerk with WDW Revenue & Currency Control Dept, also in the TD Building

2000-2001 - Internal Control Associate with the WDW Polynesian Resort's Business & Finance Office (I worked in the dungeons at the Poly...which were actually on the second floor of the main bldg, but they felt like a dungeon!!)

I LOVED being a cast member......only problem was that I couldn't make enough money to pay the mortgage AND but something to eat....ha ha ha!:)

We did the fish extender exchanges last cruise and someone kept a sign up list, then printed out the room numbers and names of those who were going to participate and passed them out at the beginning of the cruise. He made a complicated schedule but I would just divide the list by days and deliver a equal amount each day until I was done.

Bev,

When we did it, (maybe because there were so many of us) there was no schedule. I would favor this because then it's always a surprise when you get something. People had things they saved for the end, I did mine the night before people were going to have excursions so they could take their trail mix with them.

I think a list would be nice so you knew how many and where they were, but I like spontaneity. Some days may be bad just because of what may be planned. :goodvibes

I would be willing to keep a list, but I have too much to do to try and worry about a delivery schedule. An excel list is easy enough.

:dance3:

I think it depends on the age of those going, and adventure/activity level. Also, last WC, we were supposed to go to GC and swim with the stingrays. But hurricanes, Frances, Jeanne, and Ivan went through the area and we had a diversion. Ivan hit GC head on and obliterated the port and a lot of the island. We were diverted to Costa Maya. At first we were totally disappointed. However, we were toying with going to the Tulum Ruins in Cozumel. In Tulum, you cannot climb or do much on the ruins. In Costa Maya, they had quite a few ruins excavated, and cleared. There were some that were only partially cleared, and some that hadn't been discovered, and only 20 feet cleared. We wound up being thrilled because we got more hands on time on the ruins. Instead of going through Disney, we had a Suburban all to ourselves (7 of us), and a private guide. After seeing the pictures and hearing the stories of how long it took to get to Tulum, we felt we wound up with a good deal. We missed swimming with the stingrays, but knew we could hit that another time.

I haven't checked yet, but if there is a zip line in one of the stops, we would like to do that. We did that in Puerto Vallarta, and Costa Rica, it was AMAZING.

There is a thread about the dolphin swim in Cozumel. I think we will probably wind up doing that. It comes with a beach/park, and a slew of activities.

Last time in Key West we were going to parasail, but it was too windy. We may do that, but we will do it privately, not through Disney.

My girls are currently 5, 11, 11, 12 and 15. My 12 year old would probably love to write. It might be fun for her to "know" someone before the cruise. She isn't happy that she will be separated in the kid program from her older sister whom she buddies with most of the time. She is a pretty mature 12 year old and feels the 11 year olds are "immature" and "silly".

I need some reassurance! I asked my girls to pick between a cruise and Disney this year. They all picked Disney. Then I had the idea to book a Disney cruise. Now I am nervous about the financial committment I just made.

There are seven of us and I am a pretty thrifty girl so the cost of the cruise was significant in my opinion.

We have cruised before. The most recent was a few years ago on RC. The girls had a great time and really enjoyed the kid program. On our trips to Disney World I could see the value of staying on property vs staying off. Disney truly does the best job of customer service overall that I have ever seen.

My kids have grown up going to Disneyland all the time. (We've never been to DW.) This will be their 3rd DC, and they are all as excited as if we are going for the first time. We've vacationed in Spain, seen a lot of Europe, Canada, etc. We offered them a trip to Hawaii or the WC cruise on DCL again. They all chose the Disney Cruise hands down.

I look at it this way....6 of us, food for 6 of us x 3 meals a day, snacks, entertainment and things to do, hotels, cars, etc. I feel like we make out like bandits. With 3 teenage boys, they can eat me out of house and home. We joke about my 16 yo that if you can't find him, check by the pool where he's just gotten chicken nuggets. He'd show up to shows with a plate of chicken nuggets. He'd show up to get off the ship with chicken nuggets. I believe he's eaten his fare in chicken nuggets :rotfl2:

I've sailed on RC and Celebrity. Granted the kids weren't on these cruises with us, but you can just tell what there is for kids to do. Honestly, if my kids never got off the ship, they would still love it. Also, even if dh and I were to chose a cruise to go on without the kids, it would still be DCL.

I think you will have a great time. If your family liked cruising anyway, you're really going to love this cruise. Everything that you loved on RCCL, most likely you will love on DCL 10x more. Most people believe this....that is why DCL has such a high guest return rate.

I want your guys' opinion. I threw this together, so you can see a little glue that had not dried yet when I took the picture. It's a photo frame for a scrapbook or whatever you want.

Here's my questions: Is it too plain on the left side? Different colors for the wording? Different color for the frame (which would mean different colors for the wording)? I was thinking about putting Bon Voyage where Disney Magic is, but what do you think?

Anything else you want to throw out, please give me an opinion.

I noticed the board has gotten very quite. I'm alittle nervous with this whole swine flu thing. My mother says if they switch out trip to Nassau instead of mexico, my sister and I will be switching dates. I hope everything stays and the swine flu dies down.

Welcome to the thread to everyone who is new. :hippie:

I'll try and update a few things, add some cool stuff to the site. I sent out more invites. If someone has not been added, message me, Bev, or Scooby and we'll send you an invite.

For those who are interested here's how to play:
Buy inexpensive gifts for each stateroom who volunteers to play and randomly deliver them to their rooms over the length of the cruise. We use little gift bags with handles and hang them from the fish by the stateroom door or place them in their fish extender if they have one. A example of gifts might be many small items similar to party bag for a kids party, I have received miniature(1 ounce) liquor bottles, goo goo clusters. One player gave us CD's he made with party music for cruising on it. One lady gave us lovely miniature fans and candy from her homeland of Japan! It is so fun to get the different gifts and give them too! One person will keep track of all those who wish to play and print out sheets with their stateroom numbers on them. We will meet after the cruise starts and pass out the sheets so we will know the room numbers to deliver too. You start with the name right underneath yours on the list and work your way back around to yourself. This "scrambles" the date and time of gift giving and all gifts should be delivered by teh final night of the cruise. WOW! Is that confusing enough? LOL Hope someone will correct me if I am mistaken.

Leaving FE gifts is called DISer tag and the gifts are left at the fish or in the extender if one is by the door. I suppose you could leave more than one if you want, the time I played we just left one gift bag per stateroom. It gets a bit complicated if you try to take a gift per person, especially for those flying who have limited room in their baggage.

I wonder if anyone else played this differently on their cruise.

I have a local question for you. Do Florida residents get a better deal on DW passes like CA residents do for DL?

Floridasunshine
06-09-2009, 06:51 PM
Good evening. Yes, you are correct, Florida residents do get a better discount on the passes. It just makes sense to go ahead and buy the passes for everyone in the family at the begining of each year. I live about 45 minutes away from the parks so there are times we just go over to EPCOT some evenings just to have dinner.

There are also some great deals for Florida residents on the cruises - the closer it gets to sailing - in the event it is not booked as full as they need it to be. I just hate to wait until the last minute if there is a date we really want to book. :yay: I can't wait for this next cruise.

My family wants to participate but we wont have our cabin numbers until after we board for the cruise. How can we participate?

Hi, my name is Kathryn and I am a DCL addict. I'm booked on this cruise just because I'm addicted and this is the week DD can go. We just got back from a Western last week.

We've done several fish extender groups on our various cruises. How they work is totally up to the group. I've seen the term "dis-tag" used, but not in relation to fish extenders. This is usually applied when one or more people have an object that they are trying to have all the dis-board people sign. Most recently we had a large magnet appear on our door with a request that we sign it and move it to the door of another Dis member...and ultimately return it to cabin XYZ. Fish extender gifts can be done per person or per cabin. Typically they are done once during the cruise, but I've been on cruises where small gifts were left several times (depending on the number of cabins/people involved, this can be a LOT of work!) Typically the gifts are small in size and value, but we were on one cruise where the organizer wanted to set a maximum price per cabin (I thought their max was high....but whatever). Typical FE gifts are little baggies with pirate tatoos, eye patches, candies, note pads, pens, glow sticks, highlighters, etc. Some people get very crafty and do door magnets, CDs, picture frames etc. personalized to our cruise. It's really fun to come back to the room and see that you got a "treat."

As to not knowing your cabin until you board--I'm not sure why you feel this way. Most of the gty cabins are given assignments about 30 days before sailing. Yes, they can always be changed. What usually happens is that one person volunteers to set up the FE group. People who want to participate sign up by a deadline date (usually 2-4 weeks before the cruise so that we can buy our gifts). The organizer sends out an e-mail list of participants--ages, cabin numbers, first names. Then we arrange a time for a Dis-meet--usually after boarding on the first day. Anyone who has cabin changes notifies the organizer at that time and the info is shared with everyone. People can have changes because they were "pixie dusted" or because they were able to purchase an upgrade at the port. All the Dis people are welcome to attend the Dis meet whether they are doing FE or not--it is a time to briefly see each other and leads to more recognition during the cruise.

OK...I'll have to read thru the 11 pages and get up to speed with you guys (I can't join a thread until it is my "next" cruise--otherwise I get WAY too confused!

Thanks for all the info . When we went on our last cruise they called it DISer tag and some used fish extenders and some did not.

The array of gifts was amazing from little baggies of goodies, home made Cd's, some gifted tiny bottles of alcohol, goo-goo clusters, one lady left a bag of Asian gifts with a tiny fan magnet for the refrigerator, and some left movie size boxed candy.

Thanks for letting me know about the room number I didn't know when it was assigned and I thought they were letting us know when we arrive at the ship.

Glad we are picking up some more people. Please remember to PM me if you are interested in the Fish Extender Gift Exchange.

We are in need of a name. I have seen a suggestion here. Please PM me some suggestions and I will set up a poll for us to decide. We currently have
A MAGICal Jouney to Neverland. I bet some of you have a hidden talent for names.

Can't wait to meet everyone. Don't worry if you do not have your cabin assignments yet. Even If you change at the Port I will have an updated list on my door. (but even I may have a change we have added another cabin so we are up to 3 and they are all CAT 12) but we will have a plan in place to handle all room changes.

Anyone traveling down before the trip? We are attending Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party the night before the cruise. This would be a great time to meet up say around 5PM somewhere in the Magic Kingdom. Any ideas?

You can count us in for the fish extender gift exchange. :cheer2:I was booked on this cruise with my daughter. She has invited a friend of hers from the New England area to fly in and join us. Her friend has never been on a cruise :cool1:and is so excited. I loved the last cruise so much that I can't wait to go again. It is the first time in years where I felt like this was a real vacation. I am already racking my brain for a different type of gift to exchange. Not sure how many I need to gather as I an anxious to get started. Do you have any idea a typical number of families who participate?

On our last cruise my daughter and I played bingo and she won $495 - she was feeling lucky that day. Last time we did not get to go to Cozomel due to the restrictions but we are hopeful we will get that stop on this cruise.:dance3: We will be traveling over the night before to stay locally at a hotel as it helps with the cost of parking the car. My daughter also has her company Christmas party the night before the cruise so I know it will be late. Please let me know if there is anything else I need to be doing. Counting the days.

I'd be interested in this fish extender thingy but I'd a little wary of getting stuff that, well.... let me put it this way...I am a pack rat. No matter what, I keep everything because there's got to be SOME memory or sentiment attached to it even if I don't see the item againf or 20 years. LOL Example: if somebody gave me a Mickey Mouse pad of stickies, I'd probably end up saving it for eternity and never using it because it'll remind me of the cruise. <sigh> I know, I know... I need help but I can't be the only one with this problem!!!

I'll have to think about this...but will probably join in ... if not for just the stealthy fun of it.

I have a question. We're going to arrive in Orlando about 2 days before the cruise ... mainly because I'm paranoid so this gives us a 2 day window in case there's a snow storm up here. I don't want to rent a car this trip so I was hoping to get a couple of rooms at one of the resorts. My travel agent has had no luck getting me any room at what I would call an affordable price. Since we're only staying 2 nights, I had been hoping to get one of the deluxe resorts near Epcot but the most "affordable" one is AKL.

Does anybody have any suggestions or tips?

Assume in that range. The first WC, it was around 60; the Med was I think 83, so I think it will just depend. I did one thing for the cabins (for adults), and each child got something from us. I just went to the dollar store and got the Disney frisbee's, that came 3 to a pack. Think party favors for the kids (IMHO). Sticky balls, hands, etc. This time, I will be giving Disney pencils to the kids, and a scrapbook thing for the adults in the cabin.

Okay, I took the semi-plunge and put 2 cabins on hold for this cruise...one for DH, DD, and me and one for my in-laws if we can convince them to go!

We booked cat 12's and the price is great! We did the same at spring break this year and got a nice upgrade that week. Hopefully we will be as lucky on this cruise if we go ahead and put down the deposit.

My only concern is that DD will miss a full week of school. But she'll be in 2nd grade and that week will probably be mostly parties and such. I doubt they get much done with the kids one week before Christmas - it's mostly just "crowd control" at that point since the kids are bouncing off the walls! LOL!

I really want to cruise when we can enjoy the holiday decorations and activities. I originally thought about booking Christmas 2010 and it's still on my radar, but I could go on 2- 3 cruises for the same price as one of those! I'm too much of a bargain shopper and it hurts my feelings to spend more than I have to :lmao:

Hope we get to meet all of you! Anyone sailed during the holidays before? Our DD will be almost 8 and so I am interested in what they do for the kids her age...

I'm with you. I'd rather go the following week, but couldn't beat the deal we got. We got our Cat. 12's for 3 people for $2,100, plus a $100 Costco gift card. And the price went up $4,000 for the following week. I guess I'm the bargain shopper with you!

As for your dd missing school, I don't think it is a big deal. (IMHO) If she thinks it is, point out what she'll be doing and the other kids won't. (Most of my kids classmates knew what they were leaving for, and they brought back souveniers and pictures that they showed and presented to the class.) If her teacher thinks it's a big deal, show her the things she will be learning about while your gone that she wouldn't get in any other curriculum in the school. (and she can make up work) If it's you stressing.....you're right, parties, getting ready for parties, etc..... Wait till their teenagers, it's really hard taking them out. I have two in H.S., one in Jr. High, that will miss a week. My college Freshman will have finals that week, so we're hoping he can rearrange any that he might have the Friday we need to leave.

Anyone else tentatively planning to go on the Baltic Capitals next year?:yay:

Hi Scooby! Thanks for the reassurance about school ;) I figure it's not a big deal in 2nd grade. Probably not a big deal in elementary school in general, but once the kids hit 3rd grade here they have yearly testing for promotion so I will be much more hesitant to do something like this after this year. My only worry is too many absences and jeopardizing promotion. We get up to 20 so I guess I shouldn't stress but I am the perpetual worrier I suppose!

I hear ya about taking them out when they are older! I tutor kids in middle and high school math and the pressures they have on them especially in high school would make me very concerned to take my DD out at that point. I know there are kids that can do it but I think the stress of make up work would just take away some of the enjoyment of the trip (for us anyway). They are really really strict about missing days here at the high school level so I better get in all the family trips I can now while I still have some flexibility.

I asked DD today whether she would rather go on a Disney Cruise again or back to WDW. We haven't been to WDW in almost 2 years and we just went on a Disney cruise in April so I wasn't sure what she would say, but she was insistent that she wants to cruise again versus going to WDW. We're not going to tell her about the cruise until it's time to go (if we go), but I just wanted to get her general feeling. When we go to WDW we always rent a condo offsite (we have a way to get one very cheap) and so it's a very laid back and relaxing vacation since we go in the off season (we were thinking January 2010 this next time around). I miss WDW but we've been 4 or 5 times in the past 5 years and the last time we went it was a little too familiar. It still captured my heart but wasn't as "magical" as it had been before - dare I say that one a DISboard?!:rotfl: So maybe the cruise is the better choice for us. We couldn't do a WDW trip for a whole lot less than we can do this cruise, so maybe we should just go for it...

I think our cruise price is pretty much what you got too if yours didn't include the travel insurance. I currently have a DCL cruise booked for next spring break that I booked onboard this past April for the discount and OBC. While I know I would not get a discount on a cat 12 for the December cruise, I could get the OBC if I am willing to transfer my existing reservation. However, I have a really good room booked for spring break and so I am not sure I want to move my reservation right now. I knew there was a good reason to book more than one cruise when we were onboard this year - DARNIT!!! As you can see I've got a lot to think about...

hey itutorfortravel i am in the same boat on taking my dd6 out of school for this cruise she will be in 1st grade. the issue that i have is we are booked for the eastbound transatlantic in april 2010 as a family not just the 2 of us. if i do decide to take this cruise she will end up missing 15 days of school. what do you think?? i do agree that really at that time of year they are not learning very much. we need to come up with ideas that this will be educational.

we just got off the western on June 20th and I already know the excursions I want to do this time. Key West-Parasail Grand Cayamn- Turtle Farm and Cozumel - zipline i was able to snag a category 12 when i got back for this dec 12-19 at 1680 for the 2 of us. also this would be right after exams for myself.

Hi momtomari! I had also thought about the EBTA next April but I was hesitant about the 2 weeks out of school. Our district is very persnickety (msp?) about missed days, and our principal is not very flexible or understanding...so there is no way I could take my DD out of school for 15 days. You are very lucky that your school will support your doing it. I absolutely don't think there will be anything going on in your DD's class the week before Christmas. Last year in 1st grade it was all about parties in my DD's class and teachers just trying to make it through the day! The kids were literally bouncing off the walls!

We cruised over our spring break this year and it was honestly nice not to have to worry about absences. But we got lucky on that trip and snagged a cat 12. It wasn't as cheap as this December cruise, but nonetheless, it was a great deal for being Easter week.

We did the Eastern itinerary over spring break, which I loved! DH and I have been to the Western ports before, but DD has only been to Grand Cayman not KWF or Cozumel. We went on a land-based vacation to Grand Cayman a couple years ago and it was fabulous! The turtle farm is a lot of fun :) We also liked going to Stingray City out of Rum Point. I'd like to hear more about those excursions you mentioned in the other ports.

I would just love to see DCL over the holidays. We've done WDW a couple times in mid-December and it's a magical place at that time of year so I'd like to see how DCL celebrates. I just can't bring myself to pay what they charge for the actual week of Christmas...

I think I'm going to put down our deposit for this cruise and then mull it over for a couple months. I was able to grab a cat 12 so I don't want to take the chance of losing it. I think the PIF date is near the end of September, which will give me some time to get to know DD's teacher and how I think she will be about our missing the time. I may also ask a couple teachers who are friends of mine what they think about that in 2nd grade. I'm sure I am over-analyzing the situation but that is my nature to do that - LOL!

Hope it works out for all of us!

I'm sure it will be fine. Two things that helped when our kids missed almost two full weeks. One, we made up a complete curriculum for where we were going. We did a full week in FL before our first cruise. Most of it was created by teachers and homeschoolers in FL who were taking field trips to these places (ie, St. Augustine, Fort Castillo De San Marcos, Chaccoben ruins/Tulum, etc). Anyway, I showed their teachers the things they would be learning. BTW...there were age appropriate lessons. One teacher said great, another teacher said great but you have to bring back this math packet done, another said great, but you must keep a journal and share a 5 min. speech about what you did while you were gone.

Now, I'm sure you can imagine, the principal was not too happy with us either. lol, I had to laugh at his face when he started to harrass me and I told him that my mother was dying and it was the last trip my kids would have with her. At this point, one of two things can happen. One, the teachers were willing to count that as them being there, or...I could call them in sick for that time. I know if the law "No Child Left Behind" act, the principals and districts cannot have them miss more than a certain number of days of school. In this instance I didn't care. My kids are not sick too much, and them missing a week to build those memories, and family time was well worth it.

I'm sure you'll make the right decision for your family.... Just remember, we're a fun group! :lovestruc

Yea, this DISgroup sounds like a fun bunch! Hopefully it will work out for us to go. I did put down my deposit, so I have time to think it over, get to know the personality of DD's teacher and how she may feel about it, feel out the new administration at our school this year, etc. I simply love WDW at the holidays and can't imagine not loving DCL every bit as much :goodvibes

Hope everyone is doing well. Just sold my house (after three contracts fell through) and close in 3 weeks which is great but I don't know where I am moving to. Packing, looking at homes, etc. I will keep logging in as time permits. I am just thrilled my home sold given the market at the moment. I am not sure if I am using the private message site correctly as I attempted to post a response today to a private message - just let me know if you got my response. Trying to condense and get rid of stuff is more difficult than I thought. I went to a Disney outlet store last week in Orlando and they have Mimmie Mouse Christmas headbands with Holly on - and yes I did pick some up. Working on the FE gifts and made sure I did not pack any of that great stuff. :yay:I am so thrilled this is a holiday cruise. My daughter picked up a great dress for the formal night dinner. Here is to the next several months going by quickly.

Congratulations on the sale of your house! You're right, given today's market, it is a true cause for celebration :yay: Hope you find another home you like and get settled quickly.

The Minnie Mouse headbands sound adorable! I was at the Orlando outlet in June and got the cutest DCL Santa Mickey hats - the only thing denoting a year was a little charm attached to the pom pom, and I can just cut that off...

I am trying to figure out something easy to pack and inexpensive to use as a Christmas tree in the cabin. Anyone have any ideas?

a couple of years ago, we were in Maui for Christmas and we picked up this little folding Christmas tree - about 2 feet in height from Kmart or Walmart there ... it was like 1 dollar or something.... we put a few little decorations on it and sure enough Santa found it to leave his gifts there!

Hi all!

We are booked for this cruise too. My DH (37) and I (35) snag one of those great cat 12 rates. By reading through the threads, I see that quite a few of us got this great rate. I see upgrades in the future. We are only two so I'm not worried if we don't get one. My DH prefers and inside room.

Also, friends of our tentatively booked this cruise. They won't know until August if they are going for sure. I hope they can make it!

Looking forward to speaking with and meeting with many of you!

Hi Marcy! Welcome to the group :)

Well, I added a countdown to my signature so we're moving closer to a committment. It's booked, just trying to work on DH and get him "on board" so to speak. He's a little uncomfortable with our cruising 2 times in one year - what will the neighbors think?! Ha ha...but for the price we paid for this cruise, we couldn't do a beach trip to Myrtle Beach, so I think we are great travel shoppers! :thumbsup2 Well, in all fairness there is another issue, which is DD missing an entire week of school to go, and that has me a little nervous too. I need to talk to a couple of my schoolteacher friends who teach her age group to see what they think. Hopefully they will be honest with me and not just tell me what I want to hear, though I hope their honest response IS what I want to hear...LOL...

Just curious if anyone knows many people are signed up so far for the FE? We didn't do it on our first cruise but might be interested this time. The group on our last dis meet sure seemed to have fun with it. Just not sure I'll have enough "real estate" in my luggage to carry much more than my clothes :rotfl: But for now please count us in tentatively...it would be me, DH, and DD7. Anyone else have girls in the same age range cruising during this week?

Glad to see some activity on this thread again. Hoping to meet all of you in a few months!

Yes, she went to the club alot on our first cruise! Our DD was not sure about the kids' club before we went which made me a little nervous. I was hoping to have some time with DH! But once onboard, it was all we could do to get her out of there! she loved it! have you cruised with disney before and do you think your DD will like the club? i am really hoping this cruise works out for us because the next time we could possibly go would be after DD turns 8 and then she would be in the oceaneer's lab instead of club. the lab is cool, but DD really liked the oceaneer's club, and i liked it that she was at the top end of the age range for her group vs. the younger end of the next group. so i'd love for her to cruise again with the oceaneer's club as her assignment.

do your kids know you booked on this cruise? we have not told DD yet and will probably keep it a secret for awhile. our DD loved the cruise in April so much that she really has very little interest in WDW anymore. that is kind of making me sad, because i love WDW, but i have to agree that the cruise is great!

it would be great if our girls could play together in the club! is your DD going into 1st grade next year? ours will be entering 2nd grade.

My 6 year old was too young on our last cruise to go into the kid programs (we were on RC). My other girls LOVED the kid programs. I suspect she will love them as well. She is pretty outgoing and loves to play. She is going into first grade She would love to have a friend in the club.

My girls do know about the cruise and are very excited about it.

Hello all...I was looking forward to meeting this group, you all seem like a fun bunch, but I just transferred our ressie to Christmas week. New Cat 12 pricing came out that made it too hard to pass up! Now I don't have to worry about taking DD out of school either, so I am so excited to not have that stress, and even more excited that we'll be spending Christmas day on Castaway Cay! :cool1:

Hope you all have a great time on this cruise ;)

Lori if they don't post here in this group don't let them in the private group.
I have had requests from several people but they refused to ID them selves and they don't post here so I didn't Ok them because I dont want them to have access to our private information.

Bev,

Thanks, that's what I thought. I hadn't seen anyone new on the boards wanting to join. :thumbsup2

Welcome Marcy! We're excited to have you among us! Let us know if you would like to participate in our fish extender gift exchange!

Is there a deadline. DH and I are discussing it. We are undecided?

Marcy

No, there is no deadline. And, definitely no pressure. Have you seen what it is all about? It can be something homemade, something you buy, or a combo of both. So people break the bank, and most people go with what they can afford. So far, there aren't many of us. Another cruise we were on, there were more than 60 cabins. I was planning on around 30 of us, mostly because we don't have that many to this point.

The first cruise, we didn't meet any other Dis' members, we just did the exchange. The second, we did participate in the Dis' meet.

It is all on your terms, and as much or as little as you want. :hippie:

Hey there! No, it was a little more to move it to Christmas week. About $900 overall for the 3 of us...but I couldn't stop thinking about having DD out of school for an entire week and having to worry about absences the rest of the year so it was worth it to me to change. Plus, I think it will be fun to be onboard on Christmas day. I am sure DD will agree. DH is still not convinced, but I have time to work on him. His biggest concern is whether not being home will somehow make DD stop believing in Santa...I figure that on the day we leave, which would be the last day of school, one of us can go pick up DD at school, gas up the car, grab some lunch, etc. while the other one quickly sets out all the presents so that they are there waiting when we return home...and then we'll just take small gifts on the cruise for her to open Christmas morning. I think it will work...

Things will be great for you. Of course we'll miss you, but you will have a great time.

We also considered Christmas week, but for two cabins, it was about $2,000 and we figured that would pay for all our excursions and time in WDW.

You are smart to stick with your original plan when you can cover all add'l expenses with the savings. I am a bargain shopper so I wish I felt "okay" about taking DD out of school for a weeek because we also could probably cover our onboard account expenses with the extra $900 that Christmas week is going to cost us, and that would be very nice.

For us, though, it's worth a little more to be able to cruise when there are no school conflicts. Just makes life easier all the way around for us, and then I don't have to worry about DD's absences all year long. Also, she'd miss her school party and at her age those things are pretty important to her. (She was not at all happy about having to miss some end of year events at school when we had to go to an out of town graduation this past June.) I realize $900 isn't a "little bit" of money, but it sure is a lot less than the $5K+ price that the Christmas cruise would have been just a week ago for the cat 11.

I would love to meet you all, I know you'll have a great time! Heck, we all will...it's Disney! :goodvibes

So have you guys started thinking about excursions yet?

I know we are going to do a private Stingray City trip in Grand Cayman - we were there last January on Princess and went with Stingraysailling and they were awesome - beat the majority of people to the spit so there was only 1 other boat when we arrived. Chip the captain was awesome and although his boat is big enough for way more, he only takes 25 out.... so it is very relaxing.

I haven't really looked at Key West yet...

We did the Dolphin touch in Chankannab last year, so we won't do that - plus I think we will do Discovery Cove after the cruise... so I think we may just either hang out on the ship in Cozumel or maybe do a beach day at Chankannab... not sure...

Castaway Cay will be a beach day only as well....

What are you guys planning?

Hi everyone!

I haven't posted for a long time because we weren't sure if we were going to keep this reservation or not. We have finally decided to switch to the 4 night leaving Feb.28. This way, the kids won't miss school... and we will get to see the Toy Story show!

Hope you have fun!

If you are paid in full: Access opens 75 days prior to embarkation, 90 days prior for Castaway Club members, and 105 days prior for Concierge Guests. They close reservations 3 days before sailing.
Final payment is due September 28.

1st time cruisers September 27 (I think)
Castaway Cay member is September 13
and conceirge would be August 28. I could be off anyone else want to try? :confused3

My husband and daughter want to try the Dolphin extreme Swim at Grand Cayman and my oldest daughter gets to go to Palo's this year!

We're going down 2 days early (mainly to make sure we're in Orlando in time to get on the ship in case there are weather problems up here). My travel agent booked us at Port Orleans Riverside. I was hoping for a Deluxe but I can't afford the Deluxe...not even for 2 nights. It's nuts. And we're 1 night short to qualify for free dining. Ick. I should have planned this better.

Shore excursions for us are going to be non-water sports for sure. We'll take the sedate ones. :D

I have a question though...how formal is the formal? I don't really do formal anything... so I don't know what I need to bring...or in this case.. buy for the trip!

We brought ball gowns for myself and two daughters and a tuxedo for DH last cruise but lots of people just wore cruse casual to supper that night. With the new airline luggage rule I suspect a lot of people who fly in may skip it. We wont skip it though my family loves it. Great photo opportunity. Do what works to make your cruise good for you.

We don't really do formal either. Non-formal nights my boys will wear khaki type pants and a polo, semi-formal - same khaki pants and a button down shirt, formal - they'll add a tie. For the adults, dh pretty much wears the same type of wear as the boys, dd and I will wear a nicer church type dress. On less semi-formal nights, we'll wear a skirt and regular nights, we'll wear dress pants and a blouse.

OK, time to check in here again. I just skimmed thru the last few pages. DD went to college on Thursday, and your counters tell me there are 114 days till we cruise (wonder if that's from today or from when they posted....) It seems short when you think about it in days.

One correction in stuff I read--concierge is cat 1,2,and 3.

We are DD 18 and Mom, currently in a cat 12 gty. That may change (I upgraded DD to a balcony on one sailing and now she's hooked!)

We will be flying in the day before...I'll have to re-check our flight times, but will probably get a Priceline hotel in the MCO area (that's my usual when we come in too late to do anything). Her last day of finals is Dec. 10, we'll fly down on the 11th, and sail on the 12th. On our last cruise we were bumped from our flight, so these are "free" flights! YEAH!

Guess that's all I know. I'd love to do Stingray City. We did the Captain Marvin's island tour on our last western. However, DD doesn't like to snorkel.

If anyone cares, all the beaches on Grand Cayman are free. The beach runs from the tender area for many miles (thus the name "Seven Mile Beach.") It's supposed to be nicer the farther you get from the tender area. There are signs along the walkway indicating public access to the beach. Cabs are plentiful.

Yes, we'll do the FE. I'll update you on our cabin number when I know it. Do we have a coordinator?

Hi all,

I haven't been on in a while. It seems that I get so busy in the summer.

It is nice to see that everyone is getting excited. I see we lost a few to other dates.

We have decided to come in a few days early and take advantage of the free dining and MVMCP.

As far as excursions, hubby and I were thinking of renting scooters in Key West. According to the website is says that it only cost $35.00 for 5 hours of use. I will have to do more research to confirm this.

Grand Cayman we are thinking about doing the stingray thing. I will tell you last cruise we did the reef and shipwreck snorkel. It was right of the boat. We could have just walked over to the beach area and swam out. This time we are thinking about doing the stingray city.

Mexico - still researching

Castaway - my do nothing but lay in a hammock and relax day.

I'm getting excited. I think I might book Palo for brunch. Never been!

Anyone picked out your excursions?

Sure. It is so close to where we dock. I can point it out to you. I might not be exact but I will definitely be close. If I remember right it is directly out from a particular building. I just hope the building still looks the same.

I am the coordinator. You can just post your info here and i will post an updated list each weekend from here on until cruise time. Thanks for the info on Grand Cayman. We are planning on doing the early island tour and then the beach would be great. How far are the shops in town?

We've been out of the loop all summer. Anyone post the schedule of important things like the formal nights, lobster night, etc? I'll search for it but just don't know if it's been posted and it's time for me to start planning.

I guess know one is excited or trying to figure out how to get cruisin' sooner, huh?;) okay... :rotfl2:

According to the cruise calculator it is 9/13. We can book when DCL opens, 7 am EST, right?
