Do banked points have to be USED or RESERVED before the deadline?

I read a few posts recently about banked points that confused me a bit. Both posts mentioned having banked points that had to be used by July 31 (August use year) and that was a problem for the poster because they usually travel in the fall.

Is that correct - the deadline for banked points means that they have to be USED by that date (meaning your trip must have occurred before that date) or do you just have to make a reservation using them by that date, but the trip itself could be later?

Thanks - I have no banked points, but just like to make sure I understand the nuances if I have some in the future.

Banked points must be used for stays before the end of the use year into which they were banked.

Thanks - I didn't understand that, I thought you just had to make a reservation with them. Of course, I may never have that problem, anyway, with my 160 points! LOL!

We received 2007 points with our recent add on. We banked them right away. So they are now 2008 points correct? We want to use them for a trip planned for March, 2009 and we have a september use year. So we're good to go for using them as long as it's before August 31, 2009, right? I hope. Thanks.

Just remember all points use is based on date of stay, not date of reservation. New members often get confused by the use year they are in when they make the reservation. Points are already in your account for future use years, they don't "deposit" when your use year starts.
