I have made a corporate decision seeing as the weeks are all screwed up on the new spreadsheet to just continue on and I will add this weeks totals to next weeks totals and post them for the first week of May so we can come out springing on strong!!
You are all doing such a great job and your mileage is incredible. Being that we have no triathletes, big time bikers, etcetera, we are holding our own against the big dogs. With lots of races coming up and double mileage for all of them, we should be shining by the end of May!!!

Oooookay, this feels weird to be the first person responding to this thread. :rolleyes1
Anyway, I'd like to donate some biking miles & minutes to Cecilia, because she is one of those people who remind me that I am more than my couch/computer potato self:
10.80 miles, 35 minutes (or .58 in decimal format)
This was for the past weekend, ending Friday, 5/2. I don't know how that affects your spreadsheet, Lisa, but hope I don't cause too much inconvenience.
My thoughts are with you, Cecilia, and your family.
I hope the SuperGoofs are having a great weekend!! :cheer2:

Lisa: I really don't even keep track of the other teams. I think we are all doing great! The challenge helps me out alot! Thanks for all your work.....it is appreciated from those of us that are computer 'stupid'!
Debra: You are too kind to contribute to Cecilia's cause! :goodvibes You are awesome!
I myself took a day off today.....not really planned, but I am bushed. I even took a nap today. The 1/2 took it out of me. I am planning on 5 tomorrow. I think it will be another slow 5, but it will get done!
Sending PD to Cecilia :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Hoping for the best for your dad.

Good Sunday morning Super Goofs. I hope I did not discourage anyone with the last place statement. That was certainly not what I intended. We have a few people who have not reported for a month and have not officially left the team so I am unsure whether to replace them or not. I have to go another week in order to ask and then wait for someone to step up to the challenge. As a captain, this is one of the more difficult duties. Sitting and spinning is not one of my favorite things to do.
The Goofs are a strong team and very close knit. I do not WISH to lose any of you. You are my support staff and I deeply care about all of you. Personally, I think we all win just because we have found new friends!!
In my little corner of the world, it is raining and it is not supposed to be. I had planned to venture out with my run and do the 90 minutes that I would have done before my 3 mile challenge to myself but so far that is canned because I refuse to do it on the TM and it is still raining. Send me some love for a hiatus in the rain. I am not asking for sun, just not rain. ;) Yesterday, I got DD to do 0.5 miles around the track to warm up before pitching practice and then caught for her for an hour. Super leg workout in case anyone wants to give it a go.
I hope everyone has a great day and I will try to not be such a downer as a captain anymore. Only love and support. :cheer2:

Hey everyone,
I got back a little while ago from my race, the Long Branch Half Marathon. I posted a report on the race report thread.
I finished in 2:22 ---which I was thrilled about, considering my lack of training over the last few months! Imagine what I could have done if I got in all the runs I missed....ugh!!! I don't even want to think about it!!
Sorry, I don't have much time to catch up! Keep up the good work, and don't worry about what place we are in....in the long run, nobody will ever remember what place we came in, but we will remember having fun and challenging ourselves to keep with our workouts!
Enjoy the rest of the day!

Hi, Super Goofs! I just wanted to say "Hey" to everyone. I enjoyed meeting Susie in OKC. Can't wait until next year and some more Wishers join us!!! Yeah!! :goodvibes
I would like to donate 2 miles and 38 minutes to Cecillia. I don't know what the problem is, but she has my prayers.
Good luck, good times, and good training! :woohoo:

Uggg, I just erased my whole post as I was about to submit....let me try again!
Happy May to all the Super Goofs! I am sorry my postings for April were very few and very far between. I am hoping to do better this month.
I just got home from a very fun Girls Minnie Weekend. We did the 5K yesterday in 45:02 (I walked it with an injured friend and a friend who is a first timer) and then we volunteered at the 15K this morning (GREAT JOB to all of you who did it--I was right outside the back entrance to MGM/Hollywood Studios). It was nice to be on the other side of the race and I have to tell you almost every WISHer I saw thanked me for being there (and there was no way to identify I was a WISHer--they were just greatful runners). I do wish I would have had time to squeeze in a quick WISH meeting during the weekend.

Good morning Super Goofs. You all did so well over the weekend. Keep up the good work. I did nothing yesterday. I feel like a bum. My MIL ran 3, my SIL ran 7 and I finished up my laundry, and went to a kidlet b-day party. Bum. It was pouring and cold and nasty. Today is supposed to be sunny, keeping my fingers crossed. I have some miles to make up so I may try my 5.5 mile loop today. Fingers crossed again. This is my highest miles since the half.
Beth: April, May, no big deal. I only start the new thread every month so that it loads faster. They were having an issue with the threads becoming so big that they were bogging down the boards. I think they upgraded the servers though and fixed some of that. If I see April moved toward the top of the list, I usually check it anyway.
Connie/Debra:    Thank you from the Super Goofs. You are both sweeter than sweet.
Laurie: Nice job on the half. You should be happy with that time. I would be happy with it...it is my normal!!!
Christy, Angie, Maura and Suzanne: Yay for Minnie. I hear it was hot, hot, hot. Cherish your final Minnie medals. I WISH I had one too!!!! Looking forward to reports.
Cecilia: Continued  and PD for you and your family.
To all the remaining team members: Keep up the good work. We are moving into those summer months when us Northern players have to pick up the miles for the poor Southern people melting in the heat. Keep those miles/hours coming!!! Have a super special day everyone!!! :flower3:

So my best laid plans have gone down in flames again. I lost power at 9:15 this morning and just got it back so I now have 3 hours of work time to make up which takes me to 3:30. Kidlets had early release as they had no power at school either. Apparently somewhere there was a fatal with a pole and wires involved somehow. I am sure the scoop will be on the news tonight. Anyway, no softball so now I can just run at home. No gym because they don't have power either so that is put off until later in the week. Dangflabbit.......:confused3

I have not been a good team member these last few weeks :sad2: .
I am sorry about that, but at least for May and most of June life should be calm-ish (tons of weekend stuff going on, but very little during the week, so my training should not be as screwy as last month :woohoo: .) Now that I said that, tons of stuff with come up and I will never be able to exercise

Hi Goofs,
I am home from what was one of the toughest weekends of my life. And to come home to such love and support was absolutely awesome! Thank you to Everyone for thinking of us.
Dad rallied the first night we were there and we were able to have a good visit with him but it quickly became clear that he had worn himself out trying to be strong for his girls. The rest of our visit was spent mostly waiting for him to be awake enough to talk to us.
But I am home and my children are bombarding me with all of their needs at the moment. Its quite the shock after days of quiet to be back in the chaos that is my home.
3 miles in 29 minutes is all that I have for the week. eek! Thank you Debra and Connie!!

Lisa--Believe me, I am super happy about my time in my half yesterday, I guess I just know inside that if I had trained more my time would have been much better!!
Cecilia-so sorry to hear about your weekend...I can only imagine how tough that was for you! Hang in there!

Good morning Goofs. So glad to see all your bright smiling faces this early morning!! :goodvibes
Cecilia: Again  for your week. We all missed you here on the Goofs thread as I am sure they did elsewhere too. Glad to have you back.
Suzanne: LOVE the movie. You did such an awesome job. Funny that you look exactly like I did after the half trying desperately to open my water!!! Congratulations again. Did you get your time yet?
Disneyluv: Do not fret this past weekend. I did the same :rolleyes1 with all the rain we had here. It is a new week of a new month and your total from the last week is being added to this week so you will start May with a bang!! :yay: Hey, at least we look good on paper right....
Joanne: You are tooooooo sweet. I cannot wait for the Applefest. Are you doing any Disney races???
Laurie: If you are planning a short run so soon after your half, you are a better woman than I. I usually take at least 3 days off cuz I tell myself that I can.... I am glad you are happy with your time.
Chad: I WISH I could "squeeze" in as many miles in a short period as you do!!! :worship:
Everyone else: Hope to hear from you soon. Now that Cecilia is back, we should be moving up in the standings (no pressure of course...:sad2: ) so keep the faith Goofs. I am also lobbying for a triathlete or high miles biker for us!!
I did my hills yesterday instead of today being as I got left at home with my own 6yo and my SIL kidlets with DH running a 3 hour errand. Who takes 3 hours to run an errand? So I had to run up the hill in my driveway. Add on 15 minutes of core work and you have my sad, sad day. Supposed to be 3 miles and strength, but as you can see not so much. Softball game today after school so another hit or miss. Someday, I will get my schedule straightened out.....maybe summer vacation!! Have a good one Goofs!!! :thumbsup2

for the warm welcome.
Do all minutes of exercising count, as in swimming? The reason I ask is that i always lose track of laps...its kind of difficult for me to keep track what with trying to breathe/not drown and all.
I guess I'll just post each day's workout and let out esteemed capitan figure it out...like she doesn't have enough to do:lmao:
Cecelia: Welcome back, hope the sudden chaos isn't too big of a shock!

Clarification for Mike (and anyone else who needs it):
All exercise activities count such as bowling, catching for my DD13 at softball, mowing lawns, anything that gets your heart rate up (minds out of the gutter :lmao: ). The only thing so far we have determined does not count is housework, so I hired a housekeeper so I can exercise more, lol.
Anything that you can track miles for counts. If you cannot remember your pool laps it is no big, the hours/minutes still count. Some people wear a pedometer mowing so they can count the miles and hours, some only count the hours, your choice.
All hours/minutes count. Stretching, warm up, cool down, core work, aerobics class, yoga, pilates, etcetera and, yes swimming too. Groovygirls rides horseback so you will see her posting hours that she rides, just as an example.
Phew, any questions regarding what counts and does not count you can put out to me and if I cannot answer you, I will check with the wise and almighty Panda for clarification. :faint:

Hi Goofs,
I'm back from Minnie! So nice to meet Suzanne and Angie and Susie at the meet.
I posted a race report over on one of the other threads. I'll just report the basics here.
I finished in 1:31:29 for just about a 9:50 pace. I'm pretty happy with it. Maybe over time I can learn to run faster (I've done shorter distances faster). I have a lot to learn about racing.
Met some other nice WISHers at the meet and had fun overall. Took yesterday and today off--will get back to the gym tomorrow (in my new Minnie shirt)

Good late morning for me Super Goofs.
Suzanne: YES, you can do it. Your training is going so well, there is no way you can fail. I will be down for ToT and am sorry I will miss your RFTT race!!
All Super Goofs: You are all doing an awesome job this month. We are moving along nicely. Now that we have Cecilia back and Mike on board, the other teams better just watch out!!
Me, I had a craptastic run yesterday. It was full of creepy people slowing down and waiting for me to pass in order to make their creepiness further know with horn blowing and whistling. Also, there are these little black bugs out right now that got under my Bondiband, in my face, in my hair, etcetera. All in all, yes, craptastic. I ran 3 miles at a 10:50 pace which, for me, is thoroughly discouraging. Today is another day though and I will attempt it again, when I get a chance. DS6 is home sick from school today with a fever so I have to plan accordingly. Also, DD13 has pitching at 2 p.m. which means deep squats for me. DH has apparently given up walking for working so my extra miles have gone down the tubes in a big hurry. Such is life in the fast lane right?? :confused3
Have a great day Goofs and here is hoping no one else has the slow disease that I seem to be harboring. Fleet feet today everyone. And, yes, I am telling myself that too. Darned slacker captains......:lmao:

Good morning Super Goofs.
WOW...everyone has been right back at it after Minnie. Impressive.
As for me, well every craptastic run should be followed by, a mediocre run. DD13 had pitchers practice yesterday followed by batting practice so I decided to park at her school, run the 2.5 miles to the gym, lift, and then run back. My run to the gym was not bad, 10:07 mpm average. The run back, however, was a 10:39 mpm average so my overall was 10:23. Of course, I should expect that the run back would be harder having lifted and all but it was all downhill..... Oh, did I mention that the local mill and hospital let out and the traffic was beyond horrible. At one point, I had to cross the street dodging in and out of cars. That never happens around here!! Overall, I am happy with the run. I have not been 5 miles since Great Bay so it was one in the win column for me. I had my 3 miles down to 10:07 and I was able to maintain that for the first half of my run.
Get out there and get those workouts in Goofs. Tomorrow is the end of the week and I will be posting to the spreadsheet on Saturday morning. We have YMCA gymnastic regionals tomorrow evening and then field hockey practice on Saturday followed by travel 2.5 hours to a tournament on Sunday early a.m. (first game at 8:15). So much for sleeping in!! :confused3

I bought a new bike yesterday and promptly took a 5+ mile ride and this morning was 11.83 miles. It is a hybrid, not a cruiser and not a racer so it goes a little faster. It is much lighter though. I am hoping to get a couple rides a week in just for some XT along with my weights.
Last night was gymnastics. DD13 had an okay night. Best floor routine she has ever done but she fell off the beam 3 times (she would have had a 9.2 if she had stayed on) so she did not place in the all around but got 3 medals out of the night.
Today is field hockey practice, cookout for end of season, graduation party, early to bed and off for NH at 5 in the morning for an 8:15 start time in Epping. :scared1: Needless to say, no mother's day for me (except my bike :woohoo: ). I know, most women want flowers and me, exercise equipment. I am sick aren't I....
Best of days Goofs. Your totals will be high because the last week of last month is on this one. Hoping that it straightens out with the weeks as we go.

Checking in with 45 minutes of weights/stretching on Thursday. Took Friday off (a little bit lazy) but today went to the gym to bike some more (better get serious if I decide to try a tri)-- 7.52 miles in 26 minutes. Also did 1 hr Pilates class which was really good. Never taken one with this instructor and I really felt like I got a great workout without totally abusing my abs/back.

I did 3.3 miles on the treadmill in 35 minutes today.
I don't really feel like I am making much difference in reducing inches/weight. On my way home from work I noticed Ann Taylor was having a sale so I popped in to check it out and to treat myself to some new spring clothes. I have gone down a pant size!! Prepregnant pants! Good morning Super Goofs. I am absolutely exhausted from my weekend adventures. Long drives make me sooooo tired.
Joanne: Yay for the pant size :woohoo: Sometimes the scale does not show the progress we have made. I love, love, love smaller clothes. Although I am almost down to being a nothing (0) which disturbs me somehow...
ArelysAdriana: If you can summarize the entire month into your total miles and your total time, PM me with that. I will have to add them into the previous months. For this month, add the last week of April to your first week of May (ending the 3rd, beginning the 26th) as the spreadsheet is a little different now. You can PM me all this information. I will be doing the spreadsheet this evening.
Everyone looks like they are back at it after Minnie, and just keeping on keeping on with the rest of our mundane (non-Minnie) lives. popcorn:: I am glad to see everyone continues posting when I am gone. We all need each other for encouragement.
Today is a bike/weights day for me. Then I have to plant my garden which is way behind due to me not having the time to get it done. Yes, I even maintain my own veggies during the summer months, albeit sometimes not so well. By the end of the month, I need to get my 5K time in order as I have the Smuttynose Will Run for Beer 5K on 6/22. Chad, Joanne, Angie......are you with me??? :rolleyes1

Good morning Goofs! Well, the spreadsheet is FINALLY updated through last week. It is a HUGE total due to the 2 weeks combined. The months are now running from the 1st day to the last day, not by weeks so it is a little extra work for me here and there. I am going to carry May through to the 31st which is a Saturday and then start June on the 1st which is a Sunday so the first week of June will be a smaller total. It all evens out in the end no matter how we do it. We just look really good this week!!! :thumbsup2
I did not get my run in yesterday. Hip issues after my lifting session. Unexplained shooting pains that seem to be better today. We will see. I have an easy 3 miles unless I feel really good and then I may make up the mileage from yesterday. DS has a dentist appointment and then his first rookie baseball game so there are time issues today too. Tomorrow is biking and lifting. My house will be clean (cleaning lady today) so I have no worries tomorrow....unless it rains....;)

I managed to get to the gym yesterday for 30 minutes of back and biceps work. Sometimes I feel like such a freak there in the morning because it is full of older people and the people who do not want to be seen at the gym. I end up staying in the free weight room and not doing any machines. The free weights hurt my carpal tunnel so here I sit typing with sore hands.
I did get some gloves for my bike yesterday and it did seem to help with my hands a little. I had a 10.6 mile bike ride in :48:55 which I know is not much for anyone who is a great biker, but for me it is an improvement. My heel is hurting some today too. Hoping it is just a tight Achilles and not the PF rearing it's ugly head again.
Today is a run day 35 minute tempo actually. It is not supposed to start raining here until later so here's hoping that DD13 gets her away game in and DS6 gets his away game in. No I cannot be in 2 places at once.:sad2: Yes, I am going to miss DDs game  On the up side, she is not starting pitching. No you are not. I was put on this team a heavy weight and I have not been doing my share at all. You are a huge boost to our numbers.
40 degrees is too cold on a bike I agree. however, it is almost perfect running temperature.
Lisa - glad the gloves help. I always roll my eyes at all the gear Dh "needs" for his bike but then he never says a word when I want something for running.
I have been drinking this stuff called K2o by kelloggs. Its super sweet which is gross but it has low calories, no sugar substitutes and 5 grams of fiber. I like the packets you can pour in your water better than the premix. Just interested to see if anyone else has tried and what they think of it. 05-15-2008, 06:47 AM
Cecilia, you flatter me by calling me an expert. I am not by a longshot. I am still in the experimental phase of my race nutrition.
My gut reaction is, if it is super sweet and you think it is gross, that should be telling you something. I tried the stuff and it was an immediate no go for me. I either drink water or Accelerade so I may not be a good one to ask. Mike has lots of input here to as he has his supplements down to a science. What does the rest of the label say, protein, sugar, fiber, calories, etcetera....

05-15-2008, 06:58 AM
I am always interested in race nutrition as well. I will never drink anything with high fructose corn syrup on principle. The only sports type drink I can find with out it is acclerade. I like this one but it is difficult to find and a bit expensive. I heard something about protein causing GI issues during long runs- I'll have to discover this myself once I start increasing my miles.
princessrunner
05-15-2008, 07:03 AM
Joanne, I am finding increased protein helping me on my LRs. I take half a bottle of Accelerade before my run (no matter how long) and then when I get back, I mix a scoop of whey powder in the second half of the bottle. My recovery time is far better. I will also eat a protein bar during a run (6-8 miles) and I found some smaller sized ProMax bars that are 70 calories and high in protein at the local market. For longer runs (8+) I carry plain old wonderful water, use GU (I am still trying to locate some AccelGel as I don't want to order a giant box and hate the stuff) every hour and water and will still eat a protein bar or two depending on my run. The protein seems to be what I was lacking in Great Bay. I drank milk after the half also and that helped with my leg cramps that I tend to get.
I have discovered that I cannot do sweet things like Sport Beans or fig newtons (tried and not well tolerated Beth but thanks for the idea) and I have to keep it something I can take on the run as I am not very suave with the water cups yet either. Something about multitasking like that, chewing gum, walking, cracks in the road, etcetera.....:scared1:

Cecelia: Thank you for the kind words...if the temp warms up, I'll get the rest of the workout in, but its too darn cold now.
The nutrition link for the K20 is http://www2.kelloggs.com/ServeImage.aspx?BID=37346&MD5=cb2172d9e9c702d9cb3f1d6aa6cff613
The only good thing (besides convenience) I could say about this product is that they use whey isolate rather than concentrate (which reduces the lactic acid level) to give you the protein. You would likely be better served buying a container of whey protein isolate from GNC or similar outfit to supplement protein.
I'd stay away from this product due to the sucralose, which is an artificial sweetener (similar to Saccharin and Aspartame).
1. Sucralose is an artificial substance that is not found in nature, like aspartame and hydrogenated fats. Although supporters of sucralose claim that it is unable to be metabolized, up to 35% is absorbed by the body with a half life up to 23 hours.
2. Pre-approval tests indicated potential toxicity for sucralose. One study (printed in the "New Scientist", 23 November 1991, volume 132, page 13) demonstrated that thymus weight decreased by up to 40% in rats fed diets rich in sucralose, indicating that sucralose has the potential to compromise the immune system. Note that the FDA also addressed this (and other) toxicity concerns in their Final Rule, claiming that these negative effects would not be seen in humans at recommended doses.
3. Sucralose is a chlorinated compound. Other classes of chlorinated molecules include pesticides (LIKE DDT) (emphasis added by Mike, not in the original link).
4. There are no independent controlled human studies on sucralose. The bulk of the safety research has been conducted by the manufacturer. (emphasis added by Mike)
5. There are no long-term (>13 months) human studies of sucralose's effects and no long history of use.
The above information is from Whole Food's web site

Hi Goofs,
In the middle of moving from an office to a cube, DH is in China on business, had to take dog to vet and son had birthday yesterday, so the workouts have suffered a little bit (that's my story and I'm sticking with it!)
Tuesday went for a new swim workout that I pulled from a triathlon training program. Had various intervals/drills etc. It was a tiring workout--not a lot of distance, but just different stuff. I liked it. 45 minutes.
Bagged yesterday, but went today to run. I really want to run, since I took last week off after Minnie on purpose. Only made it throuigh 2 miles today before my left knee/qud/hip starting bugging me. Cut the run off and went and did some stretching, abs and foam rollering--total 45 minutes.
Will keep doing XT until I'm ready to run on good legs. I know now that I don't have to worry about missing a week or two.
So I've decided to train for a tri, even if I don't work up the nerve to enter. I've got a program and it will be good for my all-around fitness. Just need to make sure I don't lose the wieght training component. Just need to find more time!

Maura.....if you find more time, can you send some to me????? Please???? My LTO today is a drag. I have just enough time to catch up here, unload my laundry, and get the boys to baseball......sigh.
I didn't run yesterday......I am afraid of it, since this cold has me so congested. My run on Tuesday was down-right scary! I wasn't paying attention to my 'signals' and when I started to get really dizzy I figured out that I was wheezing really bad. I walked the remainder of the way home.
Mike: You are not a bad team member.....you are training so well, and I find you a great motivator. Do not get yourself down when your best laid plans fail! I think we all get that!

Groovy Girl"... I heard something about protein causing GI issues during long runs- I'll have to discover this myself once I start increasing my miles." Quote from GG....
I haven't heard of or experienced that phenomenon, but have witnessed and experienced too many carbohydrates causing GI discomfort...so you probably don't want to experiment on race day with GU or Gels on top of Gatorade, etc.
My rule of thumb is to take in the carbs in only one form or another...so if I'm going to drink a sportsdrink (like powerade or gatorade), I'll avoid gels (unless the time between them is an hour or more). Or I'll take gels or Shot Bloks but have water only...the idea is not to double up on the source of carbs.
Protein after a workout (within 60 minutes, preferably 30) is SO important to help you recover for the next day's workout...

Everyone is doing a great job. Must be spring, although Mike seems to be missing it with the rest of us. Is it always that cold where you live?? I have heard windy but I thought we here in Maine were colder than you?? Guess not...unless you are shipping the cold our way....:sad2:
I, too, supplement the same as Mike in regard to the carbs/gels/protein, etcetera. I think I use a little more protein during the workout but that is what works best for me. You have to experiment to find the right mix and unfortunately, sometimes, failure hurts, vomits, cramps, etcetera. I am trying to be better about the protein 30 minutes after my workout and I have found it really does help....a lot...:thumbsup2
Cecilia, my Accelerade availability is hit or miss here too. Sometimes they have it and sometimes they don't and when you ask if it is not there, they will tell you they are not sure if it is coming back. You can get the Accelerade powder at Running Warehouse with the WISH discount if that helps you out any. My local GNC stopped carrying both the powder and the gel due to lack of sales...:headache: so I had to find another source.
I did get in my 3 (almost) miles....okay 2.97...at a 10:12 pace yesterday. I quit early due to DH coming along in the dump truck and asking me if I wanted to ride one load with him. We don't see each other much so I thought it was the greater good to ride with him and have an adult conversation over the sound of the engine and jake brake (that loud noise they make when they are slowing down). Today is a bike day (or rest day whatever you WISH to call it). I am happy to say that with the bike, my miles are up, now I just have to work on foot miles getting up. Rain tonight, tomorrow, Sunday and Monday so running will be iffy this weekend but I am sure going to try.

So I'm attempting to do this triathlon training plan and yesterday had anotehr swim workout. It was 40 minutes of me trying not to drown while I did various drills(like swim on youu side with one arm out by your ear, one by your side and your face in the water. ) I must have been quite the show to the moms who were sitting there while their kids had lessons. I hope these drills help--but I felt very uncoordinated and sluggish!
Today was a bike day "with the added component of--a flowerpot" (No, not really, but I just love gonzo and the Muppets show at Hollywood Studios). Actually, the added component was a 10 minute run after the 45 minute bike ride. So with all that and a little stretching, my total was 1 hour and 11 miles.
Cecilia Hope you survived your baseball/softball marathon today.

Maura - I always feel like I am going to drown in the pool. Funny, before I started swimming laps for exercise, I thought I was a pretty good swimmer. Hah. What a laugh that turned out to be.
The games are over for today. We ended up playing 10. Whew. I definately think that the way I watch my kids play should count as exercise. I rarely sit down, I am standing, pacing, jumping up and down. I am the one that runs for ice when a player gets hurt.
Plus I should get hazard points for warming my son up without a glove! My palms are purple with bruises. I didn't even know your palms could bruise. Dh says (when he gets there) "I put your glove in his bag" ARGH! DS did great at shortstop. They call DS "The Wall" because nothing gets past him. He played with his arm brace on, but his wrist still started to hurt during the second game. Am I a bad mom for letting him play all 3 games?
Today I saw an 8 year old hit a ball out of the park. I really wish he had been on my son's team. We all stood and cheered for him anyway.

Maura:
See if you can find a triathlon store owner near you who gives swim lessons...I did and have taken 7 lessons so far...My swim stroke is 1000% better, and I am dramatically more confident in the swim portion of the tri that I am training for.
By way of reference, I played water polo in high school, and have over 40 open water scuba dives...I'm not afraid of the water by any means, I just realized and accepted that I needed to find someone who knew what I wanted to know...namely, how to swim for a triathlon.

Mike - dh recommends a kick boxing class for mass start triathlons. But that is good advice. My gym gives lessons but that would mean committing to swimming ever again.....
Swimming is just like smoking only backwards. I quit smoking by saying "I am not going to smoke for an hour" then a day, then a week. I am on months now. (227) So for swimming laps I am doing the same thing backwards. I am going to swim this month.....
off to run..

Wednesday- rode for 2 hours
Thursday- 45 minute spin class
Friday- 3 mile run in 36 minutes on the treadmill
I have a 7 mile run planned for this AM but we went out last night to a fancy dinner and I have a bit of a headache this morning, if you know what I mean...

I got a 3.5 mile walk in on Friday (1 hour), today i did a 8 mile walk in (2 1/2 hours) while the little ones were trying a cheerleader clinic .

Hi Super Goofs. I just did a long post explaining my lack of exercise weekend and it got lost in cyberspace. So I am not typing it all over again, just suffice it to say that I had a LTO weekend, my DD13 is in a thumb splint and missing softball games that matter this week, my well pump is fixed and my legs are killing me from toting buckets of water and yes I am counting that as exercise.
It is Monday, I don't stand much of a chance of exercising today either between DD13 dentist appt and DS6 baseball game. Tomorrow is another day and I may have to double up on Wednesday so I will have a workout similar to Maura and Mike with a bike and run. Guess it is a good time to see if I would really like a tri.
We have some members who seem to have fallen off the Earth and I will start my endless hounding of them shortly. If you are out there, Christy and Steve, Susie and Nukeman, AreylsAdriana, and lllovell, please let me know. LTO is fine but if you need to take a break, let me know. We miss you all posting and hope that there is nothing serious keeping you from all of us.
I hope everyone has a great day and gets those workouts in. Maybe someone should do an extra for me..... :sad2:

Lisa, thanks for asking...here's where I'm at w/blisters...I am not getting them on the flat of my heel since I put in the gel inserts. Now I get them on the side, where the insert rubs, and under my toes. I found that the thicker socks, that I thought I preferred, were rather snug with the inserts, so I tried thinner socks, and loved 'em...only issue is, now my foot slides when I walk/run, esp hills, I've tried tying the shoes tighter, but then the tops hurt, so? I went back to see if the shoe is too big, but I'm told I'm wearing the right size. So better but not resolved yet...I'll get there eventually! (specifically from the Minnie, I had 6 little blisters, NOTHING like before!!!)
I havent signed up for the Smuttynose yet, was waiting to see how the Rock N Race goes this Wednesday...then we'll see. I'd really like to, but not sure I can justify the distance, it will take longer to drive one way than it will to run the race, then I still have to drive back home. I dont have a race for June yet though, and my goal is one a month, so ? We'll see.

nothing for me today. Quads and calves are still complaining about all the squatting at games this weekend. I think running today might be asking for an injury.
Angie - two pairs of thin socks? Also, my feet slip a little in my shoes when I first put them on, but within the first mile, they have swelled up and no longer slip. I am glad that they didn't get TOO bad at Minnie!
Mike- 11 of 20 is over half way! Way more than half way if you included a taper! Way to go.

Good Afternoon All-
I never did get my run in on Sunday because GG#2 is going to overnight camp for the first time - in Vermont! So we went with other of her friends to check the place out. 4 hours up and 2 hours back. Do I get any credit for that?
My MCM in Training shirt came in the mail today- just a little bit of something to keep me inspired to reach my goal! I am trying Hal Higdon's novice program so keep the impact off my old joints and bones a bit. Is everyone else constantly sore?
Today rode for 1.5 hours and ran on the tread mill for 3.2 miles in 35 minutes. It is so hard to get outside with the little ones but at least the ice and snow is not my excuse!
Angie- I have been thinking of your blister problem. Are your feet sweating too much- in other words have you tried a more absorbent type material. (We all sweat BTW!)

I never had a single blister, until the Jan half...now I seem to get them every race, but not during training! I wouldn't say I have overly sweaty feet, maybe nerves during the race push me into overdrive? I really think the original insoles (inner soles?) of my shoes were the main culprit, after they told me they should be replaced before you start running in the shoes, and showed me the cushion on the bottom of them were the exact size, shape, and position of my worst blisters, so now I "hope" it's just a matter of finding the right socks. I have tried LOTS of different socks, wicking, dry fit, smart wool, injinji's, thick and now thin, I'm too stubborn to give up!
Have you made a full recovery from your fall a month or so ago? (It's sounds it, from your schedule!)

Not quite fully- I have a partial torn rotator cuff that keeps giving trouble but denial is a good thing! I am a little anxious when I think about jumping but once I get into the swing of things I'm okay. I am glad to be back with my "steady eddie". It does not help my mental health when we have had an unacceptable number of death, human and equine, in eventing this year alone. I try to be as safe as a can and hope for the best! I have a drs appt for Wednesday so we'll see. I did buy a pedometer today for my walks not on a marked trail and wanted to try it out vs my treadmill. Its off so I need to figure out how to set the pace/stride and see if I can get it closer.

Good early morning my wonderful Super Goofs. No matter where we are placement wise, I believe we are the hardest working team around!!! :thumbsup2
Angie: Yay for the smaller blisters. I think the 2 pairs of thin socks that Cecilia suggested may be the next trial. I also believe that Joanne is correct with the sweating issue. I admit I have VERY sweaty feet. Seeing how nervous you were in January, I think your assessment may also be correct about the increased nerves. I use antiperspirant on the soles of my feet and in between my toes on race days for the rubbing issue and the sweating issue. Maybe try that at the next race in the places you are getting the blisters. And, yes, I have a separate one for that purpose....
Joanne: I have a partial RTC tear too. Old volleyball war wound. It does not bother most of the time, just during haying season when I actually use it. Oh and overhead presses for my shoulders I get lots of snapping. Hold a light (emphasis on light) weight in your hand and put your elbow into your side, arm at a 90 degree angle. Now move your arm in a back and forth motion toward your stomach and out. This is a great RTC strengthening move and it has worked for me for um, 15 years now, :scared1:
Suzanne: Take care of yourself.
Cecilia: Catching is not for the faint of heart....or faint of knees, quads, hip flexors!!! :lmao: I find it to be an awesome leg workout and definitely count my time catching. :bored:
Mike: Over halfway there...:woohoo: :cool1: :yay:  I cannot even imagine training like you do. A sprint tri I would give a go but not a full Ironman. You rock hard...:cool2:
I am FINALLY going to get some exercise today. I was headed out yesterday for a major quick bike before rushing to the ballfield when it opened up and poured here. Just long enough to ruin my ride, not long enough to cancel the game :sad2: so I missed out again. Today I am going for a run and then to the gym before picking up DS and getting him to practice. If I am lucky, maybe DH will want to walk too. DD13 is headed with her team to the away game that she was supposed to start pitching in today. The opposing coach is going to be soooooo happy to see her out of commission.
Have a great day Goofs. I hope it is bright and sunny where you are...oh and warm (that was for you Mike  ).

Mike, edit or post again, either way. If you post again though, just make sure I know you are not adding more miles/minutes.
Also, we seem to have lost Susie (Escape) and Christy (SAP1227) along with both of their DHs which makes us down 4 members and a co-captain. Any volunteers for the co-position? I am going to summon the great Panda for replacements.

Good Friday morning Goofs. I appear to be back online for the moment...:surfweb:
Raenstoirm/Carla: You can post once a month if that works for you and it does not matter where in the month that you post as long as it all works out in the end. We will take your miles whenever you can get them to us. If you could add them up and just zip a post like yesterday, that would be great.
Cecilia: Yep, I think we do smell. Everyone check your shoes!!!
Beth: You and I are leading the same lives I think. So busy that anything that takes an extra step is just not worth it anymore. I am free today. :woohoo: No practices. :cool1: No games. No nothing. :yay: Can you feel the excitement in the air?????
Maura: Okay, we will give you the weekend off, but only this once, lol. Have a great time in Boston. I love Boston. It is so historic and new at the same time.
Angie: WTG on the encouragement. See, we are all an inspiration at some point. You motivate people more than you know. Oh, and I am going to miss the Smuttynose race. The Relay for Life is that weekend and I am far more committed to that than a 5K. If someone wanted to pick up my shirt though, I would love you for it!!
Suzanne: No need to ramp up the miles. Replacements have been requested and are on the corporate desk of the Panda as we speak. Hopefully someone will step forward soon. I would really like to have all our members stay but that does not seem to be in the cards so far. You don't have to cover miles, just stay with us.....:flower3:
Everyone else: Okay, it is Friday so get that last chance workout in. Not only is it important to your team, it is important to you and your health and that is the biggest challenge here, attaining and maintaining. Keep moving Goofs, oh, and don't trip over anything, K......

Angie - I was in Runner's Alley last week picking up some more socks for Chad. I was chatting with the guy that works there (not sure his name, but he's there all the time, very knowledgable). Anyway, I told him about you & your blister issue. I also mentioned that someone recently told you that you should always replace an insole from a brand new running shoe with a replacement. He said they were just trying to up-sell you. And that if a shoe is correctly fitted and right for you, there is no reason to need an insert. He mentioned that if you spend $100 or so on good running shoes, no way jose should you have to alter them.
I don't know what to think. Who do you beleive, you know? But I just wanted to pass the info I was told on to you.
I had been thinking maybe you had a sweaty feet issue. I am the queen of sweaty feet, so I can say that! :rotfl:

Kristi, we will take you back anytime you are ready. And, I, too am the Queen of sweaty feet, far north division.
I have maintained right along that if your shoes fit properly you should not need to change the inserts. They tried to get me to do this at the NB store too and I said, but the shoes don't fit. All I got was rolled eyes and well they would if you put these in. I have since discovered my Saucony's and they fit like a glove with the factory insert!!
Angie, maybe you should pay this guy a visit?????!!!!!
We are in Skowhegan, Maine Kristi. I have done it for the last 4 years as part of a team. WTG Goofs. I will be updating the last 2 weeks today sometime. Our miles are great despite the lack of members present and accounted for. Dave, aka Panda, is working on getting us some more members to fill the void.
Mike: I am not good with movies. If it is not G-rated, I have not seen it and if it is G-rated I probably slept through it. :lmao: And, no, you are not slow, having biked and run the other day, you are so not slow.....:worship:
Cecilia: Thanks for volunteering for the co position. I will get your info to ScoJo and he will send you an invite so you can update the spreadsheet if need be.
As for me...5 miles yesterday turned into 3.2 soaking wet, drenched, rain dripping off my nose and chin miles. DH talked me into the fact that the shower had passed and I went out on his word. About a mile in, it started pouring. Normally I don't mind rain but I had no hat, no baggie for my phone or iPod and my non-waterproofed running shoes on. So, needless to say, I got wet. DH came across me about 1.5 miles into the run and slowed down in his dump truck to pick me up wherein I gave him my circle wave to pick me up on his way back, which he did...after the sun came back out. I actually felt pretty good running, despite my wetness and I could have definitely maintained my pace if not picked it up a bit if I had not been slogging along so badly in my wet shoes. At the risk of blisters, I cut it short. 3.2 miles at a 10:03 mpm pace. Perfectly acceptable to me.
Today is XT and we will see where that takes me. I would like to bike, but the kidlets are home for the long weekend so hopefully I can find the time. Lots of baking, muffins, bread, etcetera to work in too....HAVE A SUPER GOOFY DAY EVERYONE!!!

Hi everyone! I'm the newest recruit for the Super Goofs and glad to be here! My name is Kim and I am just starting out as a Couch to 5K runner. I started in April but my left ankle, which I sprained in 2004, decided to flare up right before my WDW trip at the end of the month -- on the day after a Rest Day, no less! -- so I had to lay off at the beginning of May until I was healed.
Guesstimating my first session:
5/12 = ~1.75 (w2d1) for ~31 minutes
Since I started tracking the miles, I've done:
5/14 = 1.76 (w2d2) in 26.5 min
5/16 = 2.0 (w2d3) in 30 min
5/18 = 1.8 (w3d1) in 24.5 min
5/20 = 2.0 (w3d2) in ~24.75 min
5/22 = 1.75 (w3d3) in 25.25 min
5/24 = 2.25 (w4d1) in 33 min
Total for May so far = ~13.31 miles and ~164 minutes
Does time spent playing Dance Dance Revolution count as cross-training? If so, please log me in for another 45 minutes.
I plan to run Monday/Wednesday/Friday this week, and will log those miles as I complete each session.
Sorry my times and mileage amounts are so minimal. But it's a lot more than I would have logged on the couch! DH and I are registered to do this year's Race for the Taste, so I plan to work my way up to more respectable numbers come late summer and early fall.
Oh and Mike, the movie quote is from "This is Spinal Tap"!

Good morning Super Goofs. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Memorial weekend. Ours will be beautiful today and tomorrow. I have 5 on tap both days with hill repeats tomorrow. Today is just an easy run, yay for easy runs.
Please join me in welcoming our new members: PrincessVija, uptown_girl44 and the new member who has already posted, ksoehrlein. I hope to hear from all the new members soon. Please check in and let us know a little about yourselves. We are a kind and caring group who are so happy that you are here.
Ksoehrlein: We have another member lynnielou who just completed the C25K program. How exciting to have you here!!!! Do not feel that your numbers are not there, the slots that you are filling were not posting at all so your numbers are better than theirs!!!!
Mike: Kids....fighting....what you talkin bout Willis?????? :lmao: Mine never fight...:scared: You would think with a DD13 and a DS6 and 7 years in between that someone would be old enough not to pick up the rope in an argument but, well, apparently she is waaaaay too much like her mother...:rolleyes1
Cecilia: I would only WISH that my DH was even involved in exercise, let alone help me with my training plan. Try looking on the bright side that he is wanting to help you improve. :lovestruc
Everyone else in this lovely motley crew, love ya, miss ya, can't wait to hear about your weeks....so post already. I know, I am the only crazy one up at 5 a.m. working on a Sunday of a holiday weekend......:sad2: :flower3:

Hi Kim and Welcome!
Believe me, your times and amounts are great! There are many people on these boards that dream about getting your times so don't apologize.
When I first started it took me 14 minutes to run 1 mile. I fell over from exhaustion when I finished that mile. Your speed will improve as you gain confidence in your ability to do the miles.
We are glad to have you!

Hi! My name is Vanessa. Let me start off by saying I have not been running for long. I very recently started. My goal as of right now is to finish the princess half marathon next year. I am super excited about being on the team, but sad because I haven't written down anything so far this month.
I also have a kind of stupid question, if I am running outside how do I measure the miles?

Hi everyone!
Vanessa, Ksoehrlein, and Princess Vija :welcome:
Vanessa, I usually use this site
http://www.walkjogrun.net/account/
You have to remember where you ran, but its pretty accurate.
The other way is to pick up a pedometer or Garmin
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142
Glad to have you on the team, and you can do the 1/2 no problem!
Cecelia: Glad to see you in the pool...congrats! I never thought I would find something I liked less than running...turns out it was swimming! :lmao:
Lisa: Stop working! Says me as I check yet another email :rolleyes1
Today:
I had a stonker swim (40 minutes, 1300 yards) and a fair run (9.5 miles, 90 minutes...very hilly trail run, so i'm not going to sweat the time...)
Have a great weekend Goofs!!!

I am Linda, from Nova Scotia, Canada, and am thrilled to be joined up with this group.
How'd you know that I dream of doing the Goofy at Disney someday? "Super Goofs" is perfect!
I am a certified Disney nut, and am planning my next trip there in December of this year - after my second attempt at a half on November 30th (Spacecoast). I am doing this with Team Arthritis (Joints in Motion) and chose this event because of its generous time allowance.
You see, I have a tendency to bite off more than I can chew and first made an ill fated attempt at the Disney half (again with JIM) at a size when nobody should be considering doing anything like this - and, of course, got swept for not being fast enough.
Since then, I have done some smaller "races" (dead last on all but one - usually just me and the ambulance driver...) - five 5 ks, one five miler and one ten k - but still am far from consistent in training and have tons of weight to lose.
My most recent 5k (last Sunday) was disastrous and I very nearly quit.
While I finished the race, it was a PW and I keep the medal around to remind me of how awful a time I had and how big a mountain the half in November will be.
I need to be consistent. I have been given a custom made training schedule by one of the JIM trainers, but I need to follow it and I am especially bad at working out during the week.
For this week, I have been basically recovering - but I was in the gym for some speedwork and weights (I really need conditioning) for about an hour on Thursday and did about 1.5 k yesterday - plus about one half hour walking around a shopping mall (if that counts).
Probably will not do much today either, (catching up on laundry :laundy: and ofice work :surfweb: but hope to get back on the schedule tomorrow.
I have a hight stress, very demanding job but really want to reach my goals if at all possible.
I am also gunning for the Disney half again in 2010 - after Spacecoast, I will have a year to get the speed up.
I am not sure how this works - do you post here, on somewhere else.
Does someone add it all up?
I hope that you don't have to do great distances and times here - if so, I'd be in trouble.
I still do "turtle trots". I do, however, really enjoying walking and "racing" and we like to do it for charity. I did my most recent 5k for Team Diabetes.
Am enjoying the posts so far - and I don't really mind what you wear on your feet - lol!

Hi everyone! I am so excited to be on this team. I know this is just what I need to be accountable, and get myself to exercise more.
to introduce myself... I am married to my HS sweetheart and today is our anniversary! We have been married for 17 years and dated for 7 years before that! WOW! I have 2 great kids, DS13 and DD9. and a doggy named princess! My heritage is Latvian and I am very proud of that. I am also another Disney nut and love to stay at POP century. AND I love to try and figure out ways to get to Disney as often as I can. This year we are going to celebrate my 40th birthday there.
I have been overweight for a long, long, long time. I am only 5' 2 1/2 (that 1/2 is very important!;) ) and I have over 1/2 of my body weight to loose. I have been going to Weight watchers but have not been even remotely consistent with my efforts. I am enjoying my anniversary today, and am going to recommit tomorrow to the program.
Exercise has been hit or miss. When I am "on" I am "on" and exercise consistently, when I am off, well....
In January I started TaeKwonDo. (my DS is a 2nd degree black belt and my DD is a blue belt). The instructor is awesome and is working with me to help me get healthier. I loved breaking my first board at my first testing and I am looking forward to my next testing in June. I'll be an orange belt then.
My goals... I am planning on doing the WDW 1/2 marathon in 2010. I will earn my black belt that year as well. I would also like to start doing some shorter races to get into the swing of things.
Basicly I just want to loose weight, be healthy and be proud of myself.
***************
So I have some questions...
How do you convert exercise times into mileage? Twice a week I do TaeKwonDo for 45 minutes, how is that converted, or do I just report minutes exercised?
And today, We went to Holy Hill, which is a church up on a high hill, we walked the paths there for over an hour, but I have no idea how to figure out the mileage.
Pedometers don't really work for me, I have tried them and not sure if it is because my tummy is so big, but it is not even close to accurate. I am not opposed to buying a new pedometer, but not sure which one to get, I don't want to waste my money if it won't work yet. Is there one made to put ON a shoe?
Looking forward to meeting all of you and getting in some exercise!:yay:

Wow! Welcome Everyone!
There are several websites that you can use to find out how far you ran. I like mapmyrun.com because I can remember the name.
I think the easiest way to use this board is to check in here every day. I usually stop by as I drink my morning cup of coffee. It motivates me. Usually I post right after I complete my days training but sometimes I can't get to it until the next day.
However, not everyone has a cush job like mine, so don't feel like you have to check in everyday.

So, I have questions for all of you...
Do I go back and count up all the exercise for May?
When do you usually post your exercise: weekly, daily?
For the exercise that is not mile related (i.e. taekwondo class) do I post the time exercised then?
Thanks a bunch!:goodvibes

Hi, I'm Becky. I see I am not the only newbie here. I had lost over 60 pounds and was exercising daily, and had wanted to lose about 40 more pounds. Well somehow I fell off the bandwagon and have been slowly gaining weight about 10 pounds.
Well I have decided to do something about it, so I hope to consistently exercise again. Particularly, walking, jogging, swimming. I will not let my self get to 200 pounds again.
I also have been contemplating signing up for the Princess 1/2 next March. Whether I actually do the 1/2 or not I need to exercise and keep myself on track. So I get to my weight loss goal of 100 pounds and an all around healthier life style.
Today I walked about 3 miles.

05-26-2008, 08:08 PM
Hello all! Another newbie here. Let's see...I'm Deedee and I've been steadily losing (rather, maintaining) my weight for the past 2 1/2 years. My highest weight was 333. I've lost over 80 lbs since September of 2005 and obviously have a lot more to go. The past year has been tough in that respect. I've gained and lost the same 10 lbs about 5 times since May of last year.
Anyway, I'm hardcore into my walking right now and trying to make better food choices. I can use all the support I can get! I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

First up, I want to answer the questions regarding miles and minutes. If you do an activity that contains miles, running, walking, hiking, biking, swimming, etcetera, you are eligible to record both the miles and minutes that it took you. For example, 3 miles in 30 minutes. If you do an activity such as aerobics, pilates, taekwondo or the like where you do not rack up miles, you record only the minutes. Such as pilates class, 1 hour. I am the one liable for recording and adding up miles and minutes so post away every day and I will get this done for you. As for finding out your mileage, mapmyrun, mapmywalk, etcetera are the easiest to use although I find them not as accurate as my wonderful little Garmin... So I hope that clears things up for you.
In case you all missed it, Cecilia is the new cocaptain so in the event that I have to be absent for a long period, she is the one liable (sorry Cecilia) for all that fun stuff with the spreadsheet. The link is in the Welcome to WISH section for anyone who wants to see it. I will be adding in new members this week.
Me, well, as you all noticed, I took yesterday off. Not from exercising but from DISing and working in general. I ran on Sunday and it was discouraging. I felt very "heavy" and I had to keep motivating myself through the run. I went 5.5 miles and it took me 59 minutes. Yucky I know. Yesterday, I redeemed myself by running 3.58 miles with a couple hill repeats in there in 35:50 for a 10 mpm pace which made me a little happier. I keep telling myself that 5 miles is a long way for me as I had cut my miles back so much. I also discovered that Adidastar Control 5 sneaks are only good for about 200 miles and I had exceeded that limit. So, on the good news side, I get to find new sneaks. Saucony is my standby but I am going to try an Asics this time and see how it feels. The Saucony's are good for 300-400 miles which is a better wear for me. So much for the free sport, so far I have mentioned my expensive footwear and my arm bling. :thumbsup2 No one tell my DH okay.....:lmao:
All for one and one for all Super Goofs. Get out there, miles, miles, miles, just think of me on your shoulder the whole way!!!! :woohoo: Oh and to all doing the 1/2 in 2010, can't wait to see you.... that is my Goofy year!!!!!!!!! :hyper:

Hi everyone,
I'm just going to post a little bit about me.
My name is Randi. I'm 28. I have one beautiful son Davy who will be 7 in October. I've been married to my best friend David for just over 8 years.
I am 5'3" tall and currently weigh 186 pounds :(
My all time highest weight was 259 pounds in 2002. I went on the Atkins diet and lost down to 135.5. A total of 123.5 pounds lost !! I kept most of the weight off until about this time last year. I started gaining weight for no real reason. In October I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I have gained 50 pounds back I have tried to go back on the Atkins diet with no success. I tried Weight Watchers for 17 weeks only to gain about 11 pounds during that time.
My doctor put me on Synthroid for my thyroid, and my thyroid levels are currently regulated (finally) but I still can not get the scale to budge. I am scared to getting back to where I started at 259 pounds. I need help and support, but can seem to find it anywhere. I am desperate and would love a team and support system to share my journey with. Just when I thought I had beaten the battle of the bulge, medical issues have made it almost impossible.
At this point I can use all the help I can get. I'm not even sure where to start on my own and I'm tired of failing.
I am looking foward to this team and all the support!
I'm going to try to read all the posts to get my self cought up on everything and everyone.

I did another C25K workout this morning. I am now officially done with Week 4! :cool1: Of course, that just means the dreaded Week 5 is coming up next. Yikes! :scared1:
I ran/walked 2.25 miles and it took me just over 34 minutes to do so. (Darn! Just a bit slower than a 15-minute mile!) I turned around and walked backward for a bit after my cool down, so if you want to count that toward our minutes, I spent a grand total of 38 minutes on the treadmill.

Keep up the good work with C25K. Do not ever get discouraged. I can speak from experience as I am a recent graduate of the program, I finished in 9 weeks or so at the end of April. You can do it. I am working on increasing my speed. My goal is to actually do a "decent 5k in 30 minutes by my 52nd B-day, which is 6/21.

Wow, don't you hate it when your captain deserts you??? Well I didn't really, I just had a really busy day. No exercising just really busy. Actually I seem to have pulled my left hammy and I iced a lot yesterday and took it easy on the poor thing.
Bought some new kicks, Asics Nimbus 9 and Saucony Trigon 5 Rides to update the DOA Adidas and the soon to be DOA Saucony Trigon 4 Guides. Love my Saucony's but will run today in the Asics. Keep your fingers crossed.
I got in 3.75 miles on Tuesday at a 10:17 pace. Considering it was 85 and sticky humid gross nasty, but I digress, I was happy with the pace. I could not talk myself into the last quarter mile though, I had no pickle left in me. DH was passing by and picked me up, ice cold water in hand. :cloud9:
Everyone is doing great with their miles/minutes. I am counting Saturday on this week so tomorrow is not your last chance workout, Saturday is. I will start the June thread on Sunday. Wow, June already. Where does the time go??? My kidlets are not out of school until 6/17 due to all the snow days we had this year so I have a little more time to revel in the peace and quiet...:surfweb:
Have a great day Goofs and get those miles/minutes in. We should have a really good month of May and with all these new awesome members, June should rock hard!!!!!

Hi all
Never got to the gym yesterday. I have got to figure out life now that the kids are out of school. They manage to fill up our days without any effort at all. Today we are going to the gym if I have to hogtie them.
I did do 20 minutes of stretching including that blankety blankety plank.
And I did mange to get to the top of the laundry. Its now contained in two baskets.

Sorry to hear about a GG down. So close to school end...bummer. I wanted to let you know that AmyBeth was asking about the Hollis Applefest half as it is on her short list and she wanted some more info. I told her that you and I were doing it and am going to try and convince her to come too!! How exciting, another informal WISH meet!!! :woohoo:

Well I have finally made it back to the gym after being gone the weekend and severely sleep deprived on Tuesday (which, giving all my tossing and turning, resulted in a strained back muscle that is still bugging me).
So yesterday I did the bike. 40 minutes and about 11 miles. Was supposed to be hill intervals, but after the first one I was so light headed/weird feeling that I had to stop and rest and then resume just a regular ride.
Today, in the pool. Couldn't quite do the swim intervals that the training plan was showing, but I made the best of it for 40 minutes.
Sorry for being such a slacker this May--it hasn't been by choice/design. I really want to run, but haven't managed that yet (first knee, now back) I am feeling old right now!
Cecilia Ah, laundry. Funny thing, my husband has always done his own and kids starting doing theirs as high schoolers, so all I have to do is mine!
Hope everyone else is doing well. Have moved into my new cubby hole, and I feel guilty checking in (even though it's lunch), so I feel a little disconnected lately.

Hi Goofs ,
90 minutes exercise tonight, mowing the large lawn and then sweeping, cleanup, etc.
Hope to run tomorrow and Saturday. Sunday I am scheduled for 2 hours on walking at local Relay for Life, which the hospital I work for here in town is a big part of it. .Our hospital is designated as a regional cancer center for the thumb of Michigan. I am looking forward to that. I plan on getting a new battery in my pedometer and have that all set to go.
Have a great Friday all~~~:cool1:

Good morning my sweet Goofs (and you too Mike :rotfl: ). Great job this month getting out there and getting it done. With our new members, we should definitely have great numbers for June.
I have no miles reported for the following members for this week:

Mickeyhead

Disneyluv
Floridagirl

If you could all report in by tomorrow, miles or not, and just let us know how you are doing and what you are doing. We would love to hear from you whether you are exercising or not just to make sure we are all on track for this summer.
For the person who asked, the original intros were on the original Super Goofs challenge thread from February (or maybe before that) I cannot remember. Maybe we can all do a short bio for our newest team members. I will start...
My name is Lisa (aka Princessrunner your lovely and charming captain on this voyage to fitness) and I live in a VERY small town in central Maine. I have 2 kidlets, DD13 and DS6 who keep me really busy as they are into multiple sports but I wouldn't have it any other way. They like to be active and I love them to be active. DH is a self-employed contractor who does landscaping/earth work (driveways, septic systems) during the summer months and hauls logs during the winter months. I am primarily a runner (jogger, slogger, skipper, hopper, etcetera) and am currently working on my CFT (certified fitness trainer/personal trainer) certification. I have been lifting since 1990 and running for 2 years actively. I am also a medical transcriptionist and work for the local hospital at home, so I am here most of the time (5 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) in the mornings to help or answer questions, direct you to the right place, etcetera. I am also head cheerleader but the squad behind me is awesome!!
There, now you know enough about your wonderful captain, how about the rest of my Goofs reintroducing themselves...:listen:
Tomorrow is last chance workout day everyone. Then it is onto the June challenge thread for us! Summer already, yay.....:woohoo:

My name is Angie (aka Pungodingy). I am 38 and I live in a very small town in NH (pop approx 900). The joke is that it says “Welcome to Hill” on both sides of the sign (and that’s not far from the truth!) I am a Production Control Specialist. I am also a leader for our Girl Scout Cadette troop (for another month, then I'm handing the torch over). I am involved in fundraising activities like Making Strides and the Penguin Plunge, and I drag my family into it too! I have two kids, DS17, who is now driving and working and very very tall, and DD13, who is into softball, field hockey, Girl Scouts (for another month), and works as a CIT for summer camp. My goal this year is to do a race a month (but I'm having a really hard time finding a June race, it's hard to justify driving an hour each way to run for 40 mins!). I started running, well, I started walking, because I wanted to lose some weight, and found a walking club that I used for motivation. The club didn’t last, but I’m still going! I am working at doing more running and less walking, and trying to get faster. So far, I have "inspired" 2 sisters, 1 sister-in-law, the other Girl Scout leader, and a co-worker to start running! Lisa is the best Captain ever!!! Go team go!

Yesterday, 2 hours on the bike, 34 miles.
Today, 50 minute recovery pace , 4.2 miles and 55 minute 2000 yard swim.
My name is Mike. I live in Chicago, and work in the energy business from my home.
I have never been accused of being particularly smart, which is why when I decided to try a triathlon that I went for a 1/2 Ironman as my first event..
The support on these boards has been incredible, and although I have only met a few of the people here in real life, I do feel close to a number of the folks here.
I'll be gone for the next two weeks, but I'll post the numbers when I return.

Are you doing the full or half in WDW in 2009? ToT? RFTT? Any of them?? I am doing ToT but not the full or half this year. It is Goofy 2010 for me but I have to get a full marathon under my belt first before I feel comfortable committing. Oh, wait, I have to commit in January of 2009 and I won't complete the full until the spring..... Oh well...
Joanne, are you planning on Vermont in the spring of 2009? I know your first full is MCM which I cannot make but you did mention Vermont before. Maybe we could hook up for a full somewhere in New England...and no...not Boston...:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Morning!
Yesterday's days trip to the gym turned into a panic shopping trip as I discovered both my daughters had outgrown every dress they own. As in, won't pull down over their chests outgrown. Somehow over the winter they have gone from size 7 to size 14s. ACK!
We have a graduation, a wedding, an adventure race and two baby showers this weekend. All out of town. (the same town though so I still have to hit them all) Major LTO.
My name is Cecilia aka Cruella or Cruella de Mom. I live north of Atlanta with my 3 kids and DH. Dh the Operations Controller for an international mining company. He also competes in triathlons either as an individual or the bike rider for a team. I am a Stephen Minister and I like to run.
I ran my first marathon at 40 years old. I ran with Team in Training. My Dad has been struggling with blood cancers for over 12 years now and I ran in honor of him. Before I ran that marathon (WDW'07) the farthest I had ever run was 6.1 miles. I went from 6.1 miles to 26.1 miles in 6 months. When I finished, I wasn't about to let all that work disappear and I have been running races ever since. Last year I ran Goofy and literally danced to the finish line!
I know there are at least 3 of us on this team that would be more than glad to help you run a race. If you want to ensure you have company the whole time, that you can PR (depending on your speed), that you finish, whatever - we would LOVE to be there for you.

I am so not ready for this. DD12 already has more uptop than I did at 30. She has this curvy little athletic body with no body fat. And yet she is completely unaware and runs around the pool like a kid should. I feel sorry for the teenage lifeguards at the pool.

Yay for Goofy 2010. Who else is in?????
I was not ready for the whole GF/BF thing either and we laugh at the fact that DD13 could beat the crap out of most of the boys in her class if she wanted. We have some friends that take DD13 with their DD13 (2 weeks apart and together since 8 months old) to the beach during the summer months. The dad says to DD13 "which bathing suit do you have, the pink one?" ::yes:: says DD13. He says "well, you know the rules, if you aren't in the water, you're wearing shorts". :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I have to say she is well put together. I was skinny and muscular at her age, she is a beefcake with a body. She has ripped 6-pack abs and those beautiful shoulders that I am still working on. I have pictures of my abs.....:rotfl:
So, penciling in 2009 VA Beach labor day weekend (right Beth ;) ) and Goofy 2010 with friends! :woohoo:

I did C25K Week 5 Day 1 today. Reached approx 2 miles in just under 31 minutes. Gag! Once again I'm taking longer than a 15-min/mile average, so once again, I'm afraid I'll get swept at RftT! If you count my extra-slow warm up (while I tried to figured out how to push my iPod Shuffle and Nike+ Sport Band buttons simultaneously -- and still can't do it) and my backwards walking cool down on the treadmill, my total running time was 36.5 minutes and I totaled 2.25 miles. Bleh! That makes my pace look even worse, but I want every minute to count for the challenge.
I also put in 5 minutes on the arm bike and went a distance of 1.1 miles (or whatever unit of measurement they meant by "distance"). I broke my left wrist and sprained my right elbow in an ice skating fall in February, and the arm bike had been part of my PT. I'd noticed I was starting to get some arm definition from it, so now that I'm done with PT, I'm going to add that arm bike to my workouts to keep reaping those benefits!

Youngsters were on bikes and you would think they rode a Century the way they are acting. I thought I would run faster with them on bikes and I did for short spurts. I think I will log this as a fartlek workout. Run really fast for 3 minutes then wait for 8yo for 1 minute, scream for others to wait for him, repeat over and over. Next week, I will gladly get up and run at 5 am instead.

I am so glad people are introducing and reintroducing themselves. I posted a request to do this a few days ago but I deleted it by accident and then I was too lazy to retype the whole post.
I am Joanne and I also live in a very small New England town (NH with one traffic light). I am a SAH mom to two great girls (5 and 8) and my husband and I have been married for 14 years this June. They are my biggest cheerleaders. Bella Buttercup is my running partner. She is a very fat golden retriever but she loves to run. I am not sure why she is so fat on 2 cups day food a day. Thyroid function is fine. Eating after the kids is probably what does it!
I am a part time family nurse practitioner working in a free STD/HIV clinic and in a mens prison. Love my jobs but I have a feeling I need to move on to something different. Not sure what that is but I have sent out a few resumes and I am waiting to see what happens.
I started running about a year ago. My cousin ran Boston and she was such an inspiration to me. I have always wanted to run a full but too darn lazy to put in the training. Years when by and I got off my butt and started running. I could not run a mile to save my life. One of my life's moments that I am so proud of was finally running that first mile without stopping and feeling like I wanted to die!
My next biggest time expense is riding. I am leasing an amazing horse and we have a blast. I will never be any big name eventer and my only goals are to move up to 3' jumps and not die. I do spend lots of time riding and I LOVE it! The biggest news is......his owner has offered to sell him to me. I am so excited and this have been a major life's dream. I just never thought it would happen to me. Please keep fingers and toes crossed for me- he has a prepurchase vet exam next week.
Crap, this was a long post.
Totals for today- rode for 3 hours and garden for 2.
Wish me luck for Sunday!

HI Goofs.
Only 30 minutes of exercise time for me tonight. I had hopd to to do more but then when I was exercising in the basement with weights and the plan was to run after that ~~~ well I saw a huge bee in the basement. My husband decided to open the windows today in the basement and must be one came in some how, through a wall crack, screen, or something. The fresh air in the basement is good. However, me and bees do not get along, I am allergic to them. Thus the work out was cut short.
After din-din we headed to the hardware store and got some bug spray among a few other things.
I hope to exercise a decent amount tomorrow !
Also at the hardware store I got batteries for the stationary bike so I can monitor and then a battery for my pedometer also, woo hoo!.
Have a great evening.
I will try and get my short bio/intro done in the morning, saw princessrunner's post too late. !

another blister question...you'd think I'd have all the answers by now huh??
I was talking to a guy who does a ton of hiking, he told me that he and his buddies always put nylons on before their socks to prevent blisters. Of course I gave him the requisite hard time about it, but he says it really works. So, my question is, have any of you heard about doing this and or tried it?
I went to Olympia too, to try on and see about getting more new sneakers (it WAS a really good sale) but felt the girls working there knew less about the shoes than I did, and I felt really pressured to buy Asics (not that there is anything wrong with them, I haven't tried them yet, but they were telling me to never buy Saucony's 'cause they are for amateurs, and Nike isnt for running and that "serious" athletes wear Asics...AND wanted me to try every pair on with the gel inserts that you simply MUST have...I cave in to pressure too often as it is!)
Hope everyone has a great weekend, we're due for some rain, so it'll be an early morning run, then catching up on housework/paying bills/indoor stuff...

DH and I logged another 1.5 miles (walking) in 24.5 minutes.
I calibrated my Nike+ sensor during the first 0.5 mile but this time, it was only off by 0.02. Usually it's off by 20% of my total distance. Hopefully it will be more accurate now that it's calibrated for walking. Still need to calibrate for running though.

Hi Goofs,
As requested from our "fearless leader".
My name is Lynn and I am going to be 52 on 6/21. I have a twin sister. My DH is Fred and we have been married for 26 years. We have one daughter, Abby. DD will be 25 in October. The free of us went to WDW last September (there is a trip report in my siggie). What a fantastic and wonderful trip. A life-time dream vacation come true. DD wrote the TR and did quite a nice job with that. Her bachelor's is in public relations/marketing and her Master's is in Sport Management/Marketing. Both DH and I are very proud of her.
I decided in January that I needed to turn my own personal health around and have lost 26 pounds since then. I recently finished the C25K program, which really does work! I am determined to continue on my healthy lifestyle journey from here on out.
I work for a local hospital as a medical transcriptionist as well as system coordinator for the medical record department. I have been doing transcription for 30+ years and love my job!. I work around every 5th weekend, but mostly M-F. When I work on the weekends the advantage is that I can work at home then. Otherwise it is off to the hospital for the most part.
I am a very avid sports fan and enjoy watching sports on TV. The Detroit sport teams all have been doing well lately and in recent years, other than the Detroit Lions.
I have found physical activity and running to be addictive, which is a good thing. I really enjoy being a member of the super Goofs ~~ what a nice group of people that are so full of knowledge and support for each other.
Well I think the thunderstorm has passed outside so I am off to do some exercising and then go for a run. :goodvibes

Welcome to all the new team members...SuperGoofs is no doubt the best team to be a part of.
My name is Shannon (a.k.a. FloridaGirl). I'm a 33 yo mom of two (DS-8 and DD-3). I've been married to my husband for 9 yrs..we met as college freshmen and dated for 7 yrs before marrying. We're both active duty Air Force, currently stationed in Panama City, FL. We're being transferred in July to Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. I'm looking forward to the move, but I'm dreading being so far away from Disney. I learned about the Disney races from a co-worker last year and have since completed the Half last Jan. and the Minnie 15K a few weeks ago...Disney races are a blast! Unfortunately, I probably won't be back to compete until Marathon Weekend 2010, but I plan on trying to find some races in Oklahoma City to build up my miles. I was always very athletic growing up, but I've never been a distance runner. I got into running as a way to get healthier...I don't have the best eating habits, and I could stand to lose about 15-20 lbs, so I'm using running to help me reach my goal. Plus, Disney races are a good excuse to go back to Disney, as my husband sometimes needs coaxing since he is not as big of a fan as I am ;)
I don't post as often as some of the other SuperGoofs, but I lurk when I can and do enjoy being part of such a great team.
